While Apollos was at Corinth, Paul took the road through the interior and arrived at Ephesus. There he found some disciples. Some Jews who went around driving out evil spirits tried to invoke the name of the Lord Jesus over those who were demon-possessed. They would say, “In the name of the Jesus whom Paul preaches, I command you to come out.

With the advancements of technology we have become impatient and expect immediate results, instant gratification. The young person graduating from college enters the work world with the misunderstanding that they will be in the same comfortable situation that they grow up in. They do not expect the long hours, being at the bottom of the “corporate food chain” and the hard work it takes to reach their vision and goals. . No matter your age or generation, we have all become the same. We see a direction in life and expect to be there as soon as possible. We believe that God has given us a vision and begin to kick the doors open to get in done. Is this the biblical model of following after God’s heart? Is this how we should pursue the will of God in our lives?
Politics, Religion, Shopping, Deals, Sales, Prizes. There is a saying that no matter what you get for “free”, there is actually nothing free in life. We are taught this principle from the time we are little. If we do not understand that some how, some way everything has a price, then we will get in trouble in life. We may think that a credit card does not have to be paid off and accrue more debt than we can handle. We may go into a business venture thinking there are no risk, and end up broke. Nothing in this world is free. Nothing. This is true of everything in life. Nothing is free, and even if it was you would want to figure out how to pay for it or return the favor. This truth has been around for centuries. Let’s see how it works out for Naaman.
In this Advent season we begin to look forward to the celebration of the birth of our Lord and Saviour Jesus. In doing so we begin a preaching series that follows the major themes of Advent; Hope, Peace, Joy and Love. Webster defines hope as follows: desire accompanied by expectation of or belief in fulfillment (came in hopes of seeing you); also :expectation of fulfillment or success. To this every person must ask themselves what is their hope in life. Whether or not you believe in Christ, every person must have hope in order to continue going through this life. What do you desire? What is the hope that allows you to get thought some of the toughest days? Do you believe that there must be something greater in this life? On what is your Hope based?
As we have been going through this series on discipleship, we have seen that Jesus was not one to sugar coat the reality of being his follower. He is also very clear when it come to the fact that many people will be deceived in this life. We have natural tendency to flock to those who could be considered false prophets. We see people that are popular and speak for God. Maybe they claim to do great and amazing things for God as well like heal the sick, speak in tongues or have direct words or revelation from God. Yet, this week we have learned that some people who do all of these things will be denied entrance into heaven and Jesus will deny ever knowing them. If this is true how can we be sure not to be deceived like these false prophets?
Sunday morning comes, you must wake up get ready, keep the kids moving and get to church. Hope to get there on time, listen to the announcements (if you make on time), try to worship while thinking about the stuff to do in the afternoon, hope to get something from the sermon, go to lunch, get home and start the to-do list. Make sure everyone is ready for the week to come. The week has its own routine as well. I thought we were supposed to have a day of rest. I thought being a christian would look different. Ever feel like you are stuck in a rut? stuck going through the motions of
We live on a world who's society is bent to run from God. The media show depict life as only good when one provides the pleasure for themselves. We are told that without money out own value is diminished. When people discover our belief in God they become distant or argumentative. We stand in out world rejected by family, friends, and co- workers. What are we to do when the opportunity arise to speak the truth? What happens when we know the truth and fear fills our hearts and minds and our tongues become paralyzed? When the enemy surrounds you what do you do? What should you do? How will you respond?
Life for the the disciples was moving at a very rapid pace. Within a weeks time Jesus at brought them to Jerusalem, celebrated the passover with them and was betrayed and arrested by one of their own. From that point on everything must have been a blur. Their master, teacher is arrest accused and falsely condemned to death on a cross. They watch the crowds that praised him turn on him and chant for his crucifixion. They follow him to the cross and watch him die. They bring him down from the cross and place him in the tomb. Three days later the women come and say that he has returned alive and well. He wants to have parting words with them. Would you pay attention at this point? How would you respond?
In the world of missions many people say that they are following the footsteps of Christ. What does it mean to follow in the footsteps of Christ. What it the main characteristic found in imitating Christ? In order to discover the truth to these answers we must look into the life of Christ and find his main motive here on earth. If we know the what was at the core of Christ motive we can then discover what should be at the core of our own motive for life and missions. In Luke we discover this motive. With it we discover the reason we do missions, and the hard reality in what it means to reflect Christ in our lives. Let us look into the Scriptures today to discover the truth found as Luke recall Christ at the Mount of Olives.
Today we begin our month long missions emphasis. It is our hope that you can see the way in which God is working in and through our church. We desrie to learn more about the mission of God, the heart of God and our role with in His mission. During this time we only aske that you keep and open heart, listen to the voice of God and pray for His mission. Ask youself what part you have to play in missions? In what way is God calling you? How have you responded to that call or How are you going to respond to that call?
This sermon was preached 4 days after the Assoc. Pastor was asked to leave our church. Though there was tension in the room, God's grace prevailed. This sermon is based on the disagreement between Paul and Barnabas in the book of Acts.
how often to do you take the time to ponder? time to sit and observe the world around you? maybe marvel at an insect, the clouds, or even the stares. What would the result be in your life? It is quite possible that in our rushed lives we have forgotten to stop and smell the roses. even on vacation we work hard. going to the beach can be such a chore at times. checking off the packing list, loading everyone in the car, finding the parking spot, claiming the all important beach territory from which you must set us a small base camp, constantly being pulled into the water, sand or boardwalk and then fighting the traffic on the way home, arriving home to clean everything up in time for work the next day. We need a break from our vacations! what would the result be if you truly were non-productive for a day and had to stop and smell the roses? Maybe you would feel like the psalmist did? Possibly you would ponder the same things? Would it make a difference in your life?
