The Return of Christ 2 Peter 3:8-10
Oneness and Peace in Christ 11Don’t forget that you Gentiles used to be outsiders. You were called “uncircumcised heathens” by the Jews, who were proud of their circumcision, even though it affected only their bodies and not their hearts. 12In those days you were living apart from Christ. You were excluded from citizenship among the people of Israel, and you did not know the covenant promises God had made to them. You lived in this world without God and without hope. 13But now you have been united with Christ Jesus. Once you were far away from God, but now you have been brought near to him through the blood of Christ. 14For Christ himself has brought peace to us. He united Jews and Gentiles into one people when, in his own body on the cross, he broke down the wall of hostility that separated us. 15He did this by ending the system of law with its commandments and regulations. He made peace between Jews and Gentiles by creating in himself one new people from the two groups. 16Together as one body, Christ reconciled both groups to God by means of his death on the cross, and our hostility toward each other was put to death. 17He brought this Good News of peace to you Gentiles who were far away from him, and peace to the Jews who were near. 18Now all of us can come to the Father through the same Holy Spirit because of what Christ has done for us. A Temple for the Lord 19So now you Gentiles are no longer strangers and foreigners. You are citizens along with all of God’s holy people. You are members of God’s family. 20Together, we are his house, built on the foundation of the apostles and the prophets. And the cornerstone is Christ Jesus himself. 21We are carefully joined together in him, becoming a holy temple for the Lord. 22Through him you Gentiles are also being made part of this dwelling where God lives by his Spirit.
Our Heritage can dictate a lot of our current behaviors. They can even guide our spiritual formation. So what does the Bible say about our heritage in its relation to our future in Christ? Check out this weeks sermon as we begin Romans 9.
Though Jesus presents himself as the ultimate solution for our sinfulness What type of participation is God desiring of us who are in Christ? If you have ever wrestled with a specific sin, continually If you have yet to experience complete freedom from this particular sin. What does the Bible present as a starting point?
At Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Charleston, SC, on Sunday, June 23, we had Rev. Michael Walters from our sister church in West Ashley preach for us from Ephesians 5:25-33. He focused on the inextricable link between Christ and the church. Below is a helpful outline as you listen online. I. No Higher Price (An Costly Union) (25) II. No One Closer (The Closest union) (25, 30, 31) a. We are Christ’s fullness (1:23) “This is the highest honor of the church, that, until he is united to us, the Son of God recons himself in some measure imperfect. What consolation it is for us to learn that, not until we are in his presence, does he possess all his parts, or does he wish to be regarded as complete.” - John Calvin “as a bridegroom he is incomplete without his bride; as a vine he cannot be thought of without the branches; as a shepherd he is not seen without his sheep; and so also as head he finds his full expression in his body, the church.”— Calvin b. We are identified with Christ and he with us (28-31) 2 Corinthians 5:21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. c. We are irreversibly joined together with him (30,31) III. None More Delightful (Union of supreme delight) (25, 27, 31) a. He delights in you more than all heavenly creatures b. He delights in you more than in all earthly creatures. c. He expresses this supreme delight by caring for his church. 1. Is this love mutual? 2. Love your bride as Christ loves his 3. Preaching in the Power of the Spirit Date: June 2, 2019 Scripture: Acts 2:22-24; 32-39 Big Idea: The resurrection of Jesus was part of God’s purposeful plan to reconcile us to Himself, and establish Jesus as our Christ and Lord. 1. Creation: We were created in the image of God to have warm fellowship with Him. (Genesis 1-2) 2. Sin: God loved us so much that He gave us the free will to choose—Adam and Eve chose to sin, and their sin separated us from God. (Genesis 2:16-17; 3) 3. Atonement: God knew that this separation could only be mended through a loving act of reconciliation paid for by a price He could only pay. (Deuteronomy 32) 4. Messiah: God sent His sinless Son to earth to become our Messiah and sacrifice. (I Peter 1:17-21) 5. Incarnation: Jesus was born like us; lived with us; was tempted like us; all without sinning. (Romans 3:1-4) 6. Crucifixion: He took our sins on His shoulders, paid our price, suffered and died on the cross in our place. (Luke 23) 7. Resurrection: Jesus, our Messiah, raised to life again, and became victor over death and hell. (Ephesians 2:6) 8. Holy Spirit: He sent His Holy Spirit to convict, enlighten and indwell in us. (John 15:26-16:15) 9. Transformation: God intends for us to continually be transformed into the likeness of Christ. (Titus 2:11-14) 10. Heaven: Today He is now preparing a place for us in Heaven where we will spend eternity. (Revelations 21-22) 11. Faith: All we have to do is by faith, accept Him as our Savior and trust Him for the forgiveness of our sins. (Ephesians 3:8) Introduction: What does the resurrection of Jesus all mean? 1. The death of Christ was a purposeful act of God to provide a means of reconciliation for us (22-24) a. God’s plan of reconciliation was planned long ago (22) b. The death and resurrection of Christ were not accidents 2. The resurrection validated Christ’s work as our Messiah (24-32) a. It validated Christ as the authority over life and death (24) 3. Statement of fact: God has made this Jesus both Lord and Christ (36) a. The resurrection was the undeniable evidence that Jesus was their Christ b. The resurrection was the undeniable evidence that Jesus was their Lord too. 4. Truth requires a personal response i. The clear declaration that God purposefully provided Christ as a means for their reconciliation moved them to respond! Question: How do you respond to the resurrection of Jesus?
Made Alive with Christ 1Once you were dead because of your disobedience and your many sins. 2You used to live in sin, just like the rest of the world, obeying the devil—the commander of the powers in the unseen world. He is the spirit at work in the hearts of those who refuse to obey God. 3All of us used to live that way, following the passionate desires and inclinations of our sinful nature. By our very nature we were subject to God’s anger, just like everyone else. 4But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, 5that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!) 6For he raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus. 7So God can point to us in all future ages as examples of the incredible wealth of his grace and kindness toward us, as shown in all he has done for us who are united with Christ Jesus. 8God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. 9Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. 10For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.

Pastor Manuel Gonzalez We are the body of Christ We tend to point out things when they are not functioning right and that always seems to put leadership at fault. Well when a body functions correctly all parts have an important role and are equally responsible for the functioning of that body.
Hope Fellowship Church Feb 17 – 23, 2019 ========== Acts Part 1: Clothed with Power The Church... Not a human organization, not a building formed by human hands... But the workmanship of God...This has always been His idea. ========== Luke 24:47-49 and that repentance for the forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things. And behold, I am sending the promise of my Father upon you. But stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high." Acts 1:1-11 In the first book, O Theophilus, I have dealt with all that Jesus began to do and teach, until the day when he was taken up, after he had given commands through the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom he had chosen. He presented himself alive to them after his suffering by many proofs, appearing to them during forty days and speaking about the kingdom of God. And while staying with them he ordered them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, he said, "you heard from me; for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now." So when they had come together, they asked him, "Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?" He said to them, "It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth." And when he had said these things, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight. And while they were gazing into heaven as he went, behold, two men stood by them in white robes, and said, "Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven." Receiving power precedes and leads to being a witness for Christ 1. Power is Essential Luke 24:49 And behold, I am sending the promise of my Father upon you. But stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high." Acts 1:4 And while staying with them he ordered them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, he said, "you heard from me; What does it mean to be “clothed in power from on high?” 2. Power with Purpose Acts 1:8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth." Luke 24:50-53 And he led them out as far as Bethany, and lifting up his hands he blessed them. While he blessed them, he parted from them and was carried up into heaven. And they worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy, and were continually in the temple blessing God. Acts 1:13-14 And when they had entered, they went up to the upper room, where they were staying, Peter and John and James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot and Judas the son of James. All these with one accord were devoting themselves to prayer, together with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers. What were the disciples doing while waiting to be “clothed in power?” · The Holy Spirit gifts us boldness. 2 Timothy 1:7-8 for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control. Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord, nor of me his prisoner, but share in suffering for the gospel by the power of God, · The Holy Spirit leads us to Jesus as being Lord over all areas of our lives. 1 Corinthians 12:3 Therefore I want you to understand that no one speaking in the Spirit of God ever says "Jesus is accursed!" and no one can say "Jesus is Lord" except in the Holy Spirit. · The Holy Spirit empowers us to do ministry as Jesus did. John 14:12 "Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father. 3. Power for all Believers Acts 2:37-41 Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "Brothers, what shall we do?" And Peter said to them, "Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself." And with many other words he bore witness and continued to exhort them, saying, "Save yourselves from this crooked generation." So those who received his word were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls. a. Hear the word of God (vs. 37-38) b. Those that are called by God (vs. 39) c. Next Steps: Respond to Jesus' call in Revelation 18:4 by considering how he is calling you out of Babylon. In what areas have you blended in to the systems of economics and politics instead of remaining distinct in Christ? Be generous with your time, skills, and money as a way of choosing God's kingdom instead of Babylon.

Does it agree with the Bible? 1 Peter 1:23-25 For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God. 24 For, "All men are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, 25 but the word of the Lord stands forever." And this is the word that was preached to you. (NIV) 2. Am I in a right relationship with God? Romans 12:2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is - His good, pleasing and perfect will. (NIV) 3. Does it make me more like Christ? 1. Love people more 2. Forgive people more Matthew 6:14 For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. (NIV) 3. Serve people more Mark 9:35 Sitting down, Jesus called the Twelve and said, “Anyone who wants to be first must be the very last, and the servant of all.” (NIV) 4. Give to people more Acts 20:35 remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’” (NIV) 4. Have I sought godly counsel? Proverbs 11:14 Where there is no counsel, the people fall; But in the multitude of counselors there is safety. (NKJV) Proverbs 15:22 Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed. (NIV) 3 Prerequisites Before Seeking Godly Counsel 1. Do they live a godly life that is producing godly fruit? 2. Do they have experience? 3. Do they have proven results? 5. Do I have God’s peace? John 16:13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. (NIV) 2 Thess 3:16 Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you. (NIV) 6. Am I pursuing God’s will? Everybody falls into one of three categories: 1. I want what I want. 2. I want what you want, BUT… 3. I want what you (God) want. Luke 22:41-42 He withdrew about a stone's throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed, 42 "Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done." (NIV)

Hey Family, We've been in a series called Encounters which looks at the New Testament and how people who encounter Jesus are never the same after that experience. Encounters with Jesus are meant to transform us and change us--and he does that very thing whenever he encounters sin in our lives. So how does it actually work? What does Jesus do to change us from people who are harming ourselves and hurting others into people who reflect the love of Christ? Come on Sunday at 10 a.m. and find out! Your kids will be glad you did. Your friends will be glad you did. Your spouse will be glad you did and your work environment will be glad you did, because everyone needs to grow and change at some point. Hope to see you there--and it's a great opportunity to invite a friend.
The Messiah came. He ascended back into heaven. We had so many questions answered, but we are left with new questions. One of the most pressing questions is what are we to do while we wait on the Second Coming of Christ?
Are you poor? Are you rich? How does your net worth effect your identity in Christ? Check out this weeks sermon as we continue through the Gospel of Matthew in our series entitled "JesusPeople".

*** The Common or the Christ *** - When we turn our hearts from God our children pay for it. We are hurting the next generation - That which you do, your children will do better! If you do good, your children will do better, if you do bad, your children will be set up to do bad against God. - Where there is no repentance each generation grows in wickedness
- Some people leave church because they cannot find "the fit" - The role of the leadership/pastor is to equip you to work in the body of Christ - We all have gifts - God wants to fix/mend some of you for a purpose - God deserves our very best
