Oneness and Peace in Christ 11Don’t forget that you Gentiles used to be outsiders. You were called “uncircumcised heathens” by the Jews, who were proud of their circumcision, even though it affected only their bodies and not their hearts. 12In those days you were living apart from Christ. You were excluded from citizenship among the people of Israel, and you did not know the covenant promises God had made to them. You lived in this world without God and without hope. 13But now you have been united with Christ Jesus. Once you were far away from God, but now you have been brought near to him through the blood of Christ. 14For Christ himself has brought peace to us. He united Jews and Gentiles into one people when, in his own body on the cross, he broke down the wall of hostility that separated us. 15He did this by ending the system of law with its commandments and regulations. He made peace between Jews and Gentiles by creating in himself one new people from the two groups. 16Together as one body, Christ reconciled both groups to God by means of his death on the cross, and our hostility toward each other was put to death. 17He brought this Good News of peace to you Gentiles who were far away from him, and peace to the Jews who were near. 18Now all of us can come to the Father through the same Holy Spirit because of what Christ has done for us. A Temple for the Lord 19So now you Gentiles are no longer strangers and foreigners. You are citizens along with all of God’s holy people. You are members of God’s family. 20Together, we are his house, built on the foundation of the apostles and the prophets. And the cornerstone is Christ Jesus himself. 21We are carefully joined together in him, becoming a holy temple for the Lord. 22Through him you Gentiles are also being made part of this dwelling where God lives by his Spirit.
Our Heritage can dictate a lot of our current behaviors. They can even guide our spiritual formation. So what does the Bible say about our heritage in its relation to our future in Christ? Check out this weeks sermon as we begin Romans 9.
Though Jesus presents himself as the ultimate solution for our sinfulness What type of participation is God desiring of us who are in Christ? If you have ever wrestled with a specific sin, continually If you have yet to experience complete freedom from this particular sin. What does the Bible present as a starting point?
At Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Charleston, SC, on Sunday, June 23, we had Rev. Michael Walters from our sister church in West Ashley preach for us from Ephesians 5:25-33. He focused on the inextricable link between Christ and the church. Below is a helpful outline as you listen online. I. No Higher Price (An Costly Union) (25) II. We are Christ’s fullness (1:23) “This is the highest honor of the church, that, until he is united to us, the Son of God recons himself in some measure imperfect. What consolation it is for us to learn that, not until we are in his presence, does he possess all his parts, or does he wish to be regarded as complete.” - John Calvin “as a bridegroom he is incomplete without his bride; as a vine he cannot be thought of without the branches; as a shepherd he is not seen without his sheep; and so also as head he finds his full expression in his body, the church.”— Calvin b. We are identified with Christ and he with us (28-31) 2 Corinthians 5:21 For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. c. Preaching in the Power of the Spirit Date: June 2, 2019 Scripture: Acts 2:22-24; 32-39 Big Idea: The resurrection of Jesus was part of God’s purposeful plan to reconcile us to Himself, and establish Jesus as our Christ and Lord. 1. Creation: We were created in the image of God to have warm fellowship with Him. (Genesis 1-2) 2. Sin: God loved us so much that He gave us the free will to choose—Adam and Eve chose to sin, and their sin separated us from God. (Genesis 2:16-17; 3) 3. Atonement: God knew that this separation could only be mended through a loving act of reconciliation paid for by a price He could only pay. (Deuteronomy 32) 4. Messiah: God sent His sinless Son to earth to become our Messiah and sacrifice. (I Peter 1:17-21) 5. Incarnation: Jesus was born like us; lived with us; was tempted like us; all without sinning. (Romans 3:1-4) 6. Crucifixion: He took our sins on His shoulders, paid our price, suffered and died on the cross in our place. (Luke 23) 7. Resurrection: Jesus, our Messiah, raised to life again, and became victor over death and hell. (Ephesians 2:6) 8. Holy Spirit: He sent His Holy Spirit to convict, enlighten and indwell in us. (John 15:26-16:15) 9. Transformation: God intends for us to continually be transformed into the likeness of Christ. (Titus 2:11-14) 10. Heaven: Today He is now preparing a place for us in Heaven where we will spend eternity. (Revelations 21-22) 11. Faith: All we have to do is by faith, accept Him as our Savior and trust Him for the forgiveness of our sins. (Ephesians 3:8) Introduction: What does the resurrection of Jesus all mean? 1. The death of Christ was a purposeful act of God to provide a means of reconciliation for us (22-24) a. God’s plan of reconciliation was planned long ago (22) b. The death and resurrection of Christ were not accidents 2. The resurrection validated Christ’s work as our Messiah (24-32) a. It validated Christ as the authority over life and death (24) 3. Statement of fact: God has made this Jesus both Lord and Christ (36) a. The resurrection was the undeniable evidence that Jesus was their Christ b. The resurrection was the undeniable evidence that Jesus was their Lord too. 4. Truth requires a personal response i. The clear declaration that God purposefully provided Christ as a means for their reconciliation moved them to respond! Question: How do you respond to the resurrection of Jesus?
Made Alive with Christ 1Once you were dead because of your disobedience and your many sins. 2You used to live in sin, just like the rest of the world, obeying the devil—the commander of the powers in the unseen world. He is the spirit at work in the hearts of those who refuse to obey God. 3All of us used to live that way, following the passionate desires and inclinations of our sinful nature. By our very nature we were subject to God’s anger, just like everyone else. 4But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, 5that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!) 6For he raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus. 7So God can point to us in all future ages as examples of the incredible wealth of his grace and kindness toward us, as shown in all he has done for us who are united with Christ Jesus. 8God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. 9Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it. 10For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.

Pastor Manuel Gonzalez We are the body of Christ We tend to point out things when they are not functioning right and that always seems to put leadership at fault. Well when a body functions correctly all parts have an important role and are equally responsible for the functioning of that body.
Hope Fellowship Church Feb 17 – 23, 2019 ========== Acts Part 1: Clothed with Power The Church... Not a human organization, not a building formed by human hands... But the workmanship of God...This has always been His idea. ========== Luke 24:47-49 and that repentance for the forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things. And behold, I am sending the promise of my Father upon you. But stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high." Acts 1:1-11 In the first book, O Theophilus, I have dealt with all that Jesus began to do and teach, until the day when he was taken up, after he had given commands through the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom he had chosen. He presented himself alive to them after his suffering by many proofs, appearing to them during forty days and speaking about the kingdom of God. And while staying with them he ordered them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, he said, "you heard from me; for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now." So when they had come together, they asked him, "Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?" He said to them, "It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth." And when he had said these things, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight. And while they were gazing into heaven as he went, behold, two men stood by them in white robes, and said, "Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven." Receiving power precedes and leads to being a witness for Christ 1. Power is Essential Luke 24:49 And behold, I am sending the promise of my Father upon you. But stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high." Acts 1:4 And while staying with them he ordered them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the promise of the Father, which, he said, "you heard from me; What does it mean to be “clothed in power from on high?” 2. Power with Purpose Acts 1:8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth." Luke 24:50-53 And he led them out as far as Bethany, and lifting up his hands he blessed them. While he blessed them, he parted from them and was carried up into heaven. And they worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy, and were continually in the temple blessing God. Acts 1:13-14 And when they had entered, they went up to the upper room, where they were staying, Peter and John and James and Andrew, Philip and Thomas, Bartholomew and Matthew, James the son of Alphaeus and Simon the Zealot and Judas the son of James. All these with one accord were devoting themselves to prayer, together with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers. What were the disciples doing while waiting to be “clothed in power?” · The Holy Spirit gifts us boldness. 2 Timothy 1:7-8 for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control. Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord, nor of me his prisoner, but share in suffering for the gospel by the power of God, · The Holy Spirit leads us to Jesus as being Lord over all areas of our lives. 1 Corinthians 12:3 Therefore I want you to understand that no one speaking in the Spirit of God ever says "Jesus is accursed!" and no one can say "Jesus is Lord" except in the Holy Spirit. · The Holy Spirit empowers us to do ministry as Jesus did. John 14:12 "Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father. 3. Power for all Believers Acts 2:37-41 Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "Brothers, what shall we do?" And Peter said to them, "Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself." And with many other words he bore witness and continued to exhort them, saying, "Save yourselves from this crooked generation." So those who received his word were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls. a. Hear the word of God (vs. 37-38) b. Those that are called by God (vs. 39) c. Theme: Resurrection of Christ Main Points: Easter is an Act of God Easter is an act of Grace Easter is a summons for us to live a life driven by gratitude
Christ does not condemn us, so how can we condemn someone else? We are not to condemn others, neither are we to condemn ourselves When we accept ourselves and all others are God’s Children, we are reflecting the love of Christ

This week we begin a ten week series looking into how “Christ in us” transforms how we face life’s challenges. Seven Deadly Sins. It is one of the ways followers of Jesus have described the ways we try to make life work apart from Jesus. Seven things that look like life but are not life at all. What are they? Why do they attract us? And how does Jesus rescue us from them and reshape us to live a different way? Jesus does not just forgive and forget; nor is he interested in our lame business of sin-management. No, Jesus wants more for us. He wants us to live like he lived, life as God intended. He lives within us to change our way of life, to reshape us . . . from one degree of glory to another. It may sound fancy and far-fetched, but it is as simple as turning to His grace and taking up new disciplines as He walks with us through the stuff of everyday life.
Theme: Keeping our focus on following Christ Main Points: When Fishers don’t fish they fight. When Fishers don’t fish they run away. When Fishers don’t fish they forget.
Theme: Prepare for Christmas Main Points: Some People read Paul’s words about the presence of sin in a negative sense. We also need to see his summons to the presence of salvation The Key to preparation for God’s salvation is to clothe ourselves with Christ
Theme: Following Christ Unreservedly Main Points: There are many excuses for not following Christ Jesus wasn’t looking for fans, he was looking for followers Jesus wants people who will walk in his footsteps regardless of circumstances
Theme: Paul and Silas in prison Main Points: Even in prison their attitude was joyful and filled with praise For the sake of the jailer they didn’t try to escape after the earthquake. The jailer saw their attitude and actions and wanted what they had. That’s how most people come to Christ
Theme: The Ascension of Christ Main Points: Christ’s ascension tells us who Jesus is. (Savior, Lord) Christ’s ascension tells us what we are to do. (Witness to these things). The Ascension shows us where our power for living comes from-Holy Spirit
Theme: Transfiguration of Christ Jesus felt the need from time to time to go off by himself or with a few friends to pray. In the transfiguration they discovered Christ in all his glory. They saw him in the company of Moses and Elijah. They heard God’s voice say, “This is my son, listen to him.”
Theme: Epiphany (Following the Light of Christ) The coming of light implies that the world was in darkness. The message of Epiphany is that light has come into our world. You and I need to let our little lights shine.
Birth of Christ Christmas began in the heart of God. Christmas is about Hope Christmas is the best news the world could receive
God in Christ Main Points: God is Approachable God is Merciful We have access to God through Christ.
Incarnation of Christ We could not reach up to God, so God came down to us. We could not reach up to God intellectually. We could not reach up to God morally. We could not reach up to God with our good deeds or our works.
*** The Common or the Christ *** - When we turn our hearts from God our children pay for it. We are hurting the next generation - That which you do, your children will do better! If you do good, your children will do better, if you do bad, your children will be set up to do bad against God. - Where there is no repentance each generation grows in wickedness
- Some people leave church because they cannot find "the fit" - The role of the leadership/pastor is to equip you to work in the body of Christ - We all have gifts - God wants to fix/mend some of you for a purpose - God deserves our very best
- Your identity and who you are is based on the Lord, and he says.. "You are his beloved child" - Every good thing comes from Christ - Praise the Lord in the good times and the bad times so that he can continue to bless you
