Advent // Peace Our Whole Existence is Ravaged by ConflictIt's in Our World...It's in Our Nations...It's in Our Cities...It's in Our Communities...It's in Our Homes...It's in Our Hearts and Our Minds... Peace Means So Many Different Things to Different PeoplePeace May Be Ease from Conflict...Peace May Be Ease from Noise...Peace May Be Ease from Torment...Peace May Be Ease from Busyness...Peace May Be Ease from Pain... For Some People It May Be Found in A Treaty…For Some It May Be Found in a Place…For Some It May Be Found in An Embrace…For Some It Is Found in a Symbol…For Some It Is Found in Solace…For Some It Is Found in A Smile… Some Think It Is Accomplished by Negotiation...Some Think It Is Accomplished by Meditation...Some Think It Is Accomplished by Separation...Some Think It Is Accomplished by Location...Some Think It Is Accomplished by Reconciliation...Some Think It Is Accomplished by Medication... But for Most of Our World it Remains an Elusive State of Being... God Has Come, and He Has Provided a Lasting Peace for Us! Not Just a Fleeting Moment or an Elusive Dream... Romans 5:1 (NIV)“Therefore, being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” God Loved Us So Much that He Sent His Son to Redeem Mankind and Restore Our Peace with Him. Judges 6:23-24 (NIV)“But the Lord said to him, ‘Peace! Do not be afraid. You are not going to die.' So, Gideon built an altar to the Lord there and called it The Lord is Peace.” 2 Thessalonians 3:16 (NIV)“Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you.”

Because Jesus is our peace, we can be a people of peace. In the second week of Advent, we consider Micah 5:2-5, and how it encourages us in light of Christ, the prince of peace, to be a people of peace.
We reflect on the peace of God that arrives with the birth of Jesus. It is a supernatural peace that transcends above and sustains us through the woes of this world.
Advent Peace 2025 Luke 2:1-7 ESV In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. 2 This was the first registration when Quirinius was governor of Syria. 3 And all went to be registered, each to his own town. 4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the town of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, 5 to be registered with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child. 6 And while they were there, the time came for her to give birth. 7 And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn. Luke 10:34-35 ESV 34 He went to him and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he set him on his own animal and brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35 And the next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper, saying, 'Take care of him, and whatever more you spend, I will repay you when I come back.' Luke 22:10-12 ESV 10 He said to them, "Behold, when you have entered the city, a man carrying a jar of water will meet you. Follow him into the house that he enters 11 and tell the master of the house, 'The Teacher says to you, Where is the guest room, where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?' 12 And he will show you a large upper room furnished; prepare it there." Luke 2:8-14 ESV 8 And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with great fear. 10 And the angel said to them, "Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. 11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12 And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger." 13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, 14 "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!" John 14:27 ESV 27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid. John 17:20 ESV 20 "I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, Romans 5:1 ESV Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. John 3:17 ESV 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Romans 12:17-21 NASB 17 Never repay evil for evil to anyone. Respect what is right in the sight of all people. 18 If possible, so far as it depends on you, be at peace with all people. 19 Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written: "Vengeance is Mine, I will repay," says the Lord. 20 "But if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in so doing you will heap burning coals on his head." 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. Proverbs 19:11 NIV A person's wisdom yields patience; it is to one's glory to overlook an offense. Colossians 3:15 NIV 15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.
In Advent we are invited to have our feet guided in the path of peace where we experience God's courage, ability to interrupt evil, centering, and perspective.Luke 1:68-79Reverend Matthew LakeDecember 7, 2025

Martin leads a discussion of the topic of peace as we continue our celebration of Advent.
This Advent season, we're taking a few minutes each week to reflect on Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love. And to mix things up a bit, I'm sharing a short spoken-word piece every week. This week, I'm talking about Peace.Advent Peace isn't the soft, candle-lit word we print on cards. It's not the “if I could just get my life together…” kind of peace. And it's definitely not the version we try to manufacture by control, comfort, or numbing. In the poem, I explore how real peace doesn't show up in palaces or power structures — it shows up in the wilderness. In unexpected places. In unlikely people. And ultimately in Jesus, who brings peace not by force, but by presence. If you're carrying worry, striving for calm, or trying to hold it all together during a season that promises “peace and quiet” but rarely delivers… this reflection is for you.Take a breath. Listen in. And let this be a reminder that peace isn't something we achieve — it's a gift already given.Watch, reflect, and share if someone in your life needs a small moment of peace today.Make a plan and join us this Advent: https://linktr.ee/bethanydenver00:00 — Opening Reflection: What Do We Mean by Peace?00:32 — The Peace We Chase (and Can't Quite Catch)01:13 — Peace in Jesus' Day: Power vs. Promise01:50 — The Wilderness Word: John's Message02:28 — Peace as Gift, Not Achievement03:05 — Peace in the Manger, Cross, and Resurrection03:48 — Closing Invitation: Stop Running, Receive Peace

Jesus came as the prince of peace - not simply to stop conflict internally or externally, but to restore us back to wholeness. from Luke 2:8-20 As familiar as the season of Advent is for so many of us, what is it about this season; this time leading up to Christmas that we need to hear year after year? Why does it matter? Why the same scriptures, the same stories? Hasn't Christ already come? Indeed He has, but … Continue reading "(December 22, 2024) “Advent: Peace and Proclamation”"
