We're back hoopaholics! It's VERY early but we thought we'd kick off the 2024 draft cycle with a quick look ahead of an interesting year. The reputation has already been established that 2024's draft class isn't chocked full of top talent. However, I do believe there are a lot of high-ceiling players who fit well in the modern NBA and are worth getting to know early in the cycle. Mock drafts and big boards this far in advance are NEVER accurate for how things turn out, so I'm going to use this time to talk about the prospects who I've evaluated that I like and who I believe translate well to the NBA.Please note: this is an audio-only version of a recent YouTube upload. We're back with another Video Podcast episode as Stone Hansen (@report_court) rejoins the podcast to break down some tape on Villanova freshman Cam Whitmore and Arkansas freshman Anthony Black. Good friend of the pod Maxwell Baumbach (@BaumBoards) is back for a DYNAMITE answer on shooting projection. We dive into the intricacies of poor shooter pre-draft: what indicators go into making them a solid shooter, what parts of the mechanics are projectable, what touch means, and more. By the end, we discuss several 2023 prospects who are seen as poor shooters, such as Amen Thompson, Anthony Black, and Leonard Miller. It's a fascinating conversation on a really important topic, inspired by a question I received on-air with Sam Vecenie: Does the draft community overestimate the ability to teach players shooting skills, especially from square one?The Box and One is a reader-supported publication.
