Wie wir darauf reagieren, das ist sehr individuell. Viele Menschen denken nach dem Muster, wenn etwas passiert, dann handle ich auf jeden Fall so oder so. Wenn ich eine Prüfung bestehe, dann werde ich feiern; wenn ich einen Sportwagen habe, dann werde ich die Liebe finden und wenn ich im Lotto gewinne, dann wird sowieso alles gut. Wer so denkt, kann leicht in Zaudern, Angst und Passivität geraten. Entscheidungen werden verschoben, Möglichkeiten ungenutzt. Man versteckt die eigene Furcht oft hinter solchen "Wenn-dann"-Formeln. Das Evangelium lädt uns ein, anders zu handeln. Jesus sagt: "Geht, ich sende euch wie Schafe mitten unter die Wölfe. Nehmt keinen Geldbeutel mit, keine Vorratstasche keine Schuhe. Grüßt niemanden auf dem Weg und wenn ihr in ein Haus kommt, so sagt: "Friede diesem Haus". Jesus ruft dazu auf, sich auf sich selbst und auf Gott zu verlassen, nicht auf Netze, Pläne oder doppelte Sicherheiten. Die Angst, etwas unzulänglich zu tun, soll uns nicht lähmen. Fehler oder Ablehnung sind Teil des Weges, wir werden gesendet mit dem, was wir sind, mitten in die Welt, in die Städte, in die Dörfer, in die Lebensräume, zu den Menschen, zu denen Gott selbst gehen will. Natürlich werden manche Anstrengungen erfolglos bleiben. Manche Botschaft pralllt ab wie Wasser an einem imprägnierten Schuh. Das liegt nicht nur an uns, sondern auch daran, dass nicht jeder bereit ist, auf Gottes Wort zu hören. Manchmal stößt das Evangelium auf Lebensräume, auf Zeiten und Orte, die verschlossen sind.Das Kreuz zeigt uns: Gott handelt auf seine eigene Weise, auch wenn sie Schwäche, Unzulänglichkeit und Widerstand beinhaltet. Das Kreuz, so könnte man das sagen, das ist das "Wie Gottes"; ein Zeichen für unser eigenes Handeln und die Herausforderung des Lebens. Gott geht voran, wagt das Unmögliche, vertraut auf uns und lädt uns ein, mitzuwirken, mutig, trotz Angst, trotz Unzulänglichkeit. Gott war nicht sicher, dass sein Plan vom Kreuz aufgeht, aber er hat es gewagt, für dich und für mich.

What's the biggest moment of serendipity or coincidence in your life? I can't say I've had anything too spooky; a few random encounters that have made me think ‘whoa...' I was in Versailles in France, standing in a gift shop, perusing a bookshelf, when I realised the person standing immediately next to me was an old friend from Christchurch. Neither of us had any idea the other was in Europe, let alone France, let alone the palace. A minute or two either way and we would have been ships in the night. There must be so many of those narrowly missed connections in life. Certainly no coincidence or serendipity in my life can come anywhere near that of the world's greatest football player and the young man whom many people believe is the closest thing to his heir apparent. The photo has been everywhere over the last few days, but if you haven't yet seen it... it's a doozy. In 2007, Lionel Messi, a young star on Barcelona's globally-famous football team, was roped in to a photoshoot for UNICEF. Lamine Yamal's parents entered a competition in the local newspaper to win a photoshoot for their baby with a famous sports star. The rest is history. In the photos, Messi cares for a chubby little baby. In one photo he gives him a bubble bath. In another, he cradles the baby in his arms. It's a bit awkward and dated. Apparently as a 20-year-old, Messi had absolutely no idea how to hold a baby and you definitely get that impression in the photos. But it wouldn't be notable today except for the fact that the 5-month-old little chubster in the photo is now also the star of Barcelona's globally famous football team, and that 19 years since they met for the first time, these two extraordinary stars of the world's most popular sport are about to play each other for the very first time in the Football World Cup Final. What are the chances? Honestly. Just try and consider a fraction of the different variables that need to line up to make Monday morning happen. First of all, you need the photoshoot. It needs to be with a Barcelona player. Not just any player, but the player who will in years to come be widely considered the greatest to ever take a football field. Then you need to win the raffle, not just with any kid, but with a kid who will also become a professional football player. Not just any player, mind you, but the wunderkind of the Spanish national team, one of the world's best-known players in the best-known sport, and a star of the very same club as the guy who held him in the photo. Then, the two have to make their respective national teams in the same Football World Cup. One of them, as one of the youngest players in the tournament, the other as one of the oldest. Those two teams need to be on separate sides of the draw. They need to both make the final. You thought Lotto's had long odds? The likelihood of all of these things happening is absolutely preposterous. Because I'm a total nerd, I follow a subreddit on social media where people pose silly maths questions, and members of the community show their workings to try and solve them. I knew as soon as Argentina qualified for the final and the photo of Messi and Yamal started trending once again, there'd be a robust debate about the statistical probability of these events. While all the posters agree there are too many variables to get a perfect answer, the best efforts this week put the probability at somewhere between one in 59 billion, and one in three quadrillion. It makes you think that little bit harder about the random encounters in your own life. Who knows if that person you randomly bump into and almost immediately forget, could in years to come, be one of the most important people in your life? The photographer who shot Messi and Yamal almost two decades ago was interviewed about the experience this week. It's hard to disagree with his take. As the two stars of his photoshoot prepare to meet once again and face off in the biggest stage in sport, he was asked for his thoughts: “a true miracle of destiny”. Es beschreibt einen Extremfall, bei dem zwei biologisch verwandte Versuchspersonen innerhalb desselben 24-Stunden-Fensters unabhängig voneinander mit Fahrerfluchtereignissen konfrontiert werden – einmal als unmittelbar beteiligte Partei und einmal als völlig unbeteiligter Zeuge.Die moderne Physik beschäftigt sich seit Jahrzehnten mit Ereignissen, deren Eintritt als nahezu ausgeschlossen gilt. Hierzu zählen spontane Quantentunnelprozesse, die Entstehung virtueller Teilchen, Boltzmann-Gehirne oder die spontane Selbstorganisation eines vollständig funktionierenden Toasters aus interstellarer Materie. Nach aktuellem Forschungsstand erreicht jedoch keines dieser Phänomene die statistische Unwahrscheinlichkeit des Doppelten Fahrerflucht-Paradoxons.Zur Berechnung wurde das multidimensionale kosmologische Zufallsmodell nach Schrödinger-Einstein-Hawking-Meichsner verwendet. Berücksichtigt wurden unter anderem die durchschnittliche Anzahl täglicher Autofahrten, die regionale Unfallhäufigkeit, die Wahrscheinlichkeit einer tatsächlichen Fahrerflucht, die Aufenthaltswahrscheinlichkeit beider Probanden, familiäre Korrelationen, Wochenendfluktuationen, die aktuelle Mondphase, lokale Raumzeitkrümmungen, die kosmische Hintergrundstrahlung sowie der emotionale Zustand der Beteiligten.Nach insgesamt 8,7 Milliarden Monte-Carlo-Simulationen trat der untersuchte Fall kein einziges Mal auf. Die Rechencluster beendeten ihre Berechnungen schließlich selbstständig mit der Fehlermeldung: „Das ergibt statistisch keinen Sinn.“Zum besseren Verständnis wurde das Ergebnis bekannten physikalischen Wahrscheinlichkeiten gegenübergestellt. Die Eintrittswahrscheinlichkeit des Doppelten Fahrerflucht-Paradoxons liegt demnach unter der eines Sechsers im Lotto, unter der Wahrscheinlichkeit, zweimal vom Blitz getroffen zu werden, und nach aktuellem Modell sogar unter der Wahrscheinlichkeit, dass unser Universum mit exakt diesen Naturkonstanten durch den Urknall entstanden ist. Mehrere Gutachter empfahlen daraufhin, diesen Vergleich aus der Veröffentlichung zu streichen, da er „wissenschaftlich demotivierend“ wirke.Eine klassische Erklärung konnte ausgeschlossen werden. Stattdessen spricht vieles für einen temporären Zusammenbruch der lokalen Wahrscheinlichkeitsfunktion. Innerhalb eines Zeitfensters von exakt 24 Stunden scheint das Universum sämtliche verfügbaren Fahrerflucht-Zustände auf dieselbe familiäre Wellenfunktion projiziert zu haben. Dieses bislang unerklärliche Phänomen wird in der Fachliteratur inzwischen als Familial Driver Escape Entanglement (FDEE) bezeichnet.Die Ergebnisse werfen fundamentale Fragen auf. Ist Zufall tatsächlich zufällig? Existieren bislang unbekannte Fahrerflucht-Felder? Oder besitzt das Universum eine bislang unentdeckte Vorliebe für maximal absurde Wochenenden? Selbst unter Annahme einer unendlichen Anzahl paralleler Universen ergaben die Simulationen, dass in über 99,999999999999999999999999999999999999999999 % aller Realitäten mindestens eines der beiden Ereignisse nicht stattfindet.Die Untersuchung kommt daher zu einem eindeutigen Ergebnis: Dass Phil innerhalb eines Wochenendes selbst Fahrerflucht begeht und C-Bas nahezu zeitgleich und vollkommen unabhängig davon Zeuge einer anderen Fahrerflucht wird, stellt nach aktuellem Stand der Quantenphysik keinen Zufall mehr dar. Vielmehr handelt es sich um eine kosmologische Anomalie, deren Auftreten statistisch erst nach mehreren vollständigen Lebenszyklen des Universums zu erwarten wäre. Bis zum experimentellen Gegenbeweis empfiehlt die Fachwelt, entsprechende Wochenenden künftig unter kontrollierten Laborbedingungen zu dokumentieren und gegebenenfalls den Europäischen Forschungsrat sowie das Nobelpreiskomitee frühzeitig zu informieren.

We're cruising towards 2% growth off the back of these two bits of good news on the economy. 2% is not rocketing along, but it's not stuck in a ditch either. And given the war, and diesel, and Trump, some (i.e. the Government) might even say it's fantastic. As you know, we follow the data quite closely on this show – many of you are businesspeople, farmers, small business owners, do-ers in the economy and want to know what's going on. Manufacturing hit it out the park and now services, two-thirds of our growth, is expanding. The key missing ingredient is consumer spending – discretionary spending. You see that in hospitality and the other fine print from the services sector read yesterday. And while an OCR hiking cycle doesn't help with confidence, most of it's priced in and at this point, the rates are still technically wind at our backs, not our faces. American consumers are far more robust and confident that us. They spend like tomorrow they'll win Lotto, and they basically do that 99% of the time. We're far more cautious, and often with good reason. Not only does that demand help push their economy along, even when headlines suggest they shouldn't, but their ability to dream big, invent new things, and create value is also important here. The AI surge. The share prices. The investment it generates. The plants it builds. The jobs it creates. If success is a positive mindset and unequivocal self-belief, the Americans have it bottled. The Prime Minister says he's shocked the Family Court gave a staffer paid leave for five years until he was convicted of money laundering last month. Ex-lotto host Russell Harrison was arrested for transporting gold bas for the Comancheros in 2021. Chief Victims Advisor Ruth Money told Heather du Plessis-Allan that this is 'unacceptable'. If you haven't yet caught up on the drama involving the former Lotto presenter and the gold-bar smuggling operation, you need to hear this because it basically involves your taxpayer money. The chap's name is Russell Harrison. You might remember him from the Lotto draws. He went on to a job at the Ministry of Justice as a Kaiārahi, a Family Court navigator. He took the job in June 2021 and later that same month he was charged with money laundering after meeting a man in an Auckland cemetery, where the man handed him $420,000 in cash. We now know that money was the proceeds of drug offending, although frankly, you could probably have guessed that at the time. He then went to New Zealand Gold Merchants and bought six gold bullion bars. Ten days later, he flew to Turkey to deliver them to the head of the Comancheros. When he was charged — bearing in mind he'd been in the job for less than a month — had he even turned up to work 20 times? I don't know. But when he was charged, the Ministry of Justice stood him down from his job and kept paying him his full salary for five years, right up until two weeks ago when he pleaded guilty. If you look at the salary range for that role, he may have received as much as $564,000 of taxpayers' money while sitting at home and drawing out the court process, all the while collecting an income. Everybody I've spoken to, including an employment lawyer, says this guy should have lost his job within months. The employer could reasonably have given him a few weeks but by the two- or three-month mark they should have sat down and sorted this out. An employer does not have to wait for the courts to find somebody like this guilty. They can conduct their own independent investigation and determine for themselves whether dismissal is justified based on the available evidence and, for example, the likelihood that the employee has committed the alleged offences. We don't know why the Ministry of Justice didn't do this because they're not talking about it. Instead, all we know is that they took an approach we are beginning to see repeatedly across the public sector: not really having much regard for the fact that this is absolutely taking the mickey out of the taxpayer. They simply kept spending the money on him for five long years. Now, hands up: which employer in the real world would keep you on full pay for five years after you're charged with helping the Comancheros? Answer: no one. Actually, disclaimer: the public service. On Saturday, April 22, 2023, just hours before the fraudulent Lotto Texas jackpot drawing, the jackpot estimate of $96 million was overstated by $1.8 million by Texas Lottery Officials. The final signature on the jackpot estimate form was then Lottery Director Gary Grief, who has since been indicted for the April 2023 Lotto Texas scheme. The inflated jackpot form resulted in the lottery scam organizers getting paid an extra $1.8 million, with those funds being diverted from the Texas Lottery School Fund.
