Back in 1997, Monolith released the classic FPS, Blood, on PC, introducing brutally violent content to critical acclaim and immediate cult status. 22 years later, Nightdive Studios worked their magic to bring a remaster of the game, Fresh Supply, to PC, reintroducing the title to a new generation. Fast forward to now, and they have announced one more go at the title: Blood: Refreshed Supply. What's new this time around? I brought on some key members of the team to answer that very question and why this is the definitive version of Blood for fans of the classic, the 2019 release, and new fans alike. Episode 73: "BECOMING Refreshed: Your Invitation to Deeper Waters with Amy Allgood" Episode Description Are you feeling weary from the constant pace and pull of life? In this powerful episode, host Cherisse Hixson sits down with mentor, coach, and entrepreneur Amy Allgood to explore what it means to move from spiritual "shallow waters" into the deeper, more abundant life God has for us. Amy shares her journey from being a "selfish Christian" focused on what God could do for her, to discovering the transformative power of asking "What can I do for You, God?" This conversation is a gentle invitation for women who are ready to step beyond surface-level faith into authentic spiritual refreshment, rest, and renewal in Jesus. Meet Amy Allgood Amy is a sought-after speaker, mentor, and entrepreneur who has addressed audiences of over 12,000 women. As a National Sales Director with Mary Kay and leader of women's biblical small groups for nine years, Amy is passionate about helping women discover their unique gifts and calling. She's a wife to Will, mom to three children (ages 12, 10, and 9), and lives in sunny Shalimar, Florida. When she's not mentoring women, you'll find her enjoying good food with friends, "SPA-ING" (her favorite hobby), or traveling to one of the 15+ countries she's visited. Key Takeaways & Timestamps Moving from Head to Heart (17:29) The transformative power of fasting as a spiritual discipline Amy shares miraculous stories from her community's fasting experiences How to fast as a beginner: giving up something you love to gain closeness with God From Shallow to Deep Waters (09:07) Signs you might be living in the "shallow end" spiritually The difference between checking spiritual boxes vs. truly knowing God Moving from "What can You do for me?" to "What can I do for You?" The Martha vs. Mary Balance (12:46) Why women leaders often struggle with the "doing" vs. "being" tension Understanding that if it's not God's calling, there will be no eternal fruit Breaking free from society's "busy badge of honor" mentality Bold Obedience and Sabbath Rest (28:30) Amy's conversation with her Olympic-hopeful daughter about resting on the seventh day Why God's commands aren't suggestions but pathways to blessing The courage required to please God rather than people Standing in the Gap (30:45) God's call for bold believers in this season Personal stories of stepping into God's assignments The blessing of being someone God can count on Scripture Themes Explored Mary and Martha - The balance between doing and being with Jesus Sabbath Rest - God's design for restoration and renewal Standing in the Gap - Being available for God's assignments The Potter and Clay - Surrendering to God's shaping in our lives Practical Application Three Ways to Move Deeper This Week: Try Fasting - Give up something you love (like sugar or social media) to focus on drawing closer to God Practice Listening Prayer - Instead of bringing God your list, sit quietly and ask "What do You want to show me today?" Embrace Sabbath - Take one day to truly rest and reflect, trusting God with your productivity Upcoming Opportunities Refresh Retreat - October 4th (Virtual/Hybrid) Join Amy for her annual "Refresh" retreat, now available virtually for the first time! What would change if you shifted from asking "God, what can You do for me?" to "God, what can I do for You?" Where is God calling you to bold obedience in this season? How can you create more space for listening prayer in your daily rhythm? Quote to Ponder "Be around people who are going to celebrate you and not tolerate you. Early in life we try to please people, we try to impress people, and it's exhausting and it's a waste of time and energy." - Amy Allgood Prayer Father, thank You for pursuing us even when we're content to stay in shallow waters. Give us courage to go deeper with You, to listen more than we speak, and to step boldly into the assignments You have for us. Ever feel like your budget just won’t stick—no matter how solid it looks on paper? You’re not alone! In this special refreshed replay of one of our most popular episodes, we’re taking a fresh look at why so many budgets fall apart—and how we can align our finances with our faith to create a plan that truly sticks. Together, we explore three simple, faith-centered steps to help us refresh our mindset, clear out distractions, and take small, intentional actions that honor God and bring lasting traction to our finances. In this episode, John discusses: The importance of aligning budgeting practices with faith and values Common challenges that make sticking to a budget difficult How mindset shifts can improve long-term budget consistency Practical steps for removing distractions and staying financially focused Key Takeaways: Achieving budgeting success requires a fundamental shift in mindset, viewing budgeting as a faith-driven journey rather than just a numbers game, focusing on aligning financial decisions with core personal values, spiritual goals, and life purpose. Consistently reviewing and refreshing your budget allows it to stay relevant to your current financial needs and spiritual objectives, ensuring it remains a true reflection of both where you are now and where you aim to go, all while staying connected to your faith. Identifying and eliminating small “financial idols”—like impulsive purchases, unused subscriptions, or habitual overspending—helps you clear distractions that can derail your budget, ultimately creating more space for intentional, values-based financial choices. Building a sustainable budget means starting with small, manageable spending adjustments that gradually strengthen your budgeting consistency, empowering you to experience financial peace while also helping you avoid burnout or frustration along the way. “When you align your budget with your faith, you're placing your treasure, your heart, and your mind in God's hands, bringing more peace and purpose into your budgeting process.” CLICK ON THE LINKS BELOW FOR MORE MONEY MADE FAITHFUL! Jen Wilson admittedly loves her work. As partner and co-founder at ConvergenceCoaching LLC, she's on the road often, advising accounting firms and profession leaders. Sometimes, that travel and love of work can give her colleagues cause for concern. “It troubles them if they can't see me unplug,” Wilson said. This episode of the JofA podcast, the second of a three-episode Midwest series focusing on summer travel, features Wilson talking about the value of time away. It was recorded in person, at her house in Bellevue, Neb. Wilson discussed the benefits of a two-week, end-of-year closure and why despite understanding the importance of a refresh, she sometimes takes work with her on vacation. Additionally, as the independent facilitator for the National Pipeline Advisory Group (NPAG), Wilson is plugged in to the talent issues facing the profession. She provided an update on where things stand with accounting talent with 2026 about four months away. What you'll learn from this episode: · Wilson's background as a longtime resident of Nebraska. · The reasons she travels often for work in the summer. · Why Wilson sometimes takes work with her on vacation – and her family's reaction to that decision. · The benefits of an extended, full-company closure. · Her assessment of the accounting talent pipeline. · The meaning she finds in the quote, “Your direction is more important than your speed.”

This refreshed replay brings back a conversation that still resonates deeply: the real value of college education in today’s changing world. A Wall Street Journal article caught my attention—exploring why Americans are losing faith in higher education—and it sparked fresh reflections. With the rising costs of post-high school education and the shifting job market, it’s more important than ever to approach these decisions with wisdom, clarity, and intentionality. In this replay, I’m sharing my interview with my dear friend Lisa Marker-Robbins, whose passion for guiding families, teens, and young adults through the college and career journey is unmatched. Over 25 years and more than 4,000 students later, Lisa’s experience offers an invaluable perspective for navigating post-high school decisions in a way that aligns both with practical realities and God-given giftedness. In this episode, John discusses: Shifting confidence in college education How to navigate post-high school education choices wisely The power of early career clarity Practical ways parents can support their teen’s journey Key Takeaways: Confidence in higher education is shifting due to factors like rising student debt and changing perceptions of value—making it essential to weigh educational paths carefully and prayerfully. Intentional conversations and exploring a wide spectrum of options (from four-year universities to trades and internships) can open the door to fulfilling, well-matched careers. Early career exploration—ideally beginning by mid-sophomore year—can have a profound impact on a student’s college and career path. Parents play a critical role in fostering open dialogue, challenging assumptions, and equipping teens to make informed, confident choices. “There are a lot of benefits to going to college. It shows that you can do hard things; you build your adulting skills while living in a dorm or apartment. But the end goal is a career where your kid will flourish.” — Lisa Marker-Robbins ADDITIONAL RESOURCES: WALL STREET JOURNAL ARTICLE - "Why Americans Have Lost Faith in the Value of College:" https://www.wsj.com/us-news/education/why-americans-have-lost-faith-in-the-value-of-college-b6b635f2?st=enissi47waduz79&reflink=article_imessage_share LISA'S COMPLIMENTARY ON-DEMAND VIDEO: How to guide your teen to choose the right major, college, & career...(...without painting themselves into a corner, missing crucial deadlines, or risking choices you both regret): https://courses.flourishcoachingco.com/howtoguideyourteen-free-training CONNECT WITH LISA: Website: http://www.flourishcoachingco.com/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/lisa-marker-robbins/ & https://www.linkedin.com/company/flourish-coaching-co/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/flourishcoachingco Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/flourishcoachingco/ College & Career Clarity podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/college-and-career-clarity/id1605221043?i=1000547915852 & https://open.spotify.com/show/4AXJMim6LPwmgnoS2WbyBQ?si=yF5QrGFGQ5-yc1a1ey-_kQ CLICK ON THE LINKS BELOW FOR MORE MONEY MADE FAITHFUL! The good thing about property investment is that you genuinely can make more in one deal than you've ever made in your entire life, the downside is that you can actually lose everything you've ever had if you don't know what to do. The way to deal with this is to use the Acid Test. This is a Blueprint I've created from doing over 100 deals, over ten million pounds worth of developments and over the last 20 years I've been involved in all sorts of investments, small, medium and large, and I've been able to avoid all sorts of challenges and problems because of this Blueprint. If you want to know the three things that you need to do to ensure that every deal you do is the one that makes you, and not break you, this is the podcast for you. This is one you want to save, it's one you want to share, and this is the one that can save you from being another casualty of a downward market. Success and failure are both very predictable. I hope you enjoy.
The Bible speaks of "a new day" in several contexts, often signifying new beginnings, renewed mercies, and God's faithfulness. It can refer to the literal dawning of each day as a fresh opportunity, or it can symbolize a spiritual renewal and a chance to start anew with God's grace. Here's a more detailed look.1. FIRST: The Literal New Day: Lamentations 3:22-23:"Through the Lord's mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness." This verse emphasizes that each new morning brings a fresh experience of God's enduring love and compassion. Psalm 51:10:"Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me." This verse highlights the daily need for spiritual cleansing and renewal, aligning with the idea of a fresh start each day. Genesis 1:5:"And God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. So the evening and the morning were the first day." This establishes the pattern of evenings and mornings, signifying the cyclical nature of days and the new opportunities they bring. 2. Ever find yourself with a little extra money and wonder what to do with it? Turns out, how you answer that question says a lot more about your mindset than you might think. In this refreshed replay episode, I'm sharing a real-life street experiment I conducted years ago where I asked everyday folks what they'd do with an unexpected $100. Their answers? Revealing — and a perfect lead-in to today's conversation on a powerful (but often overlooked) concept in behavioral finance: mental accounting. This isn’t just theory. It’s about the hidden rules you apply to your money — based on where it comes from — and how that impacts your financial decisions more than you realize. Grounded in biblical wisdom and packed with practical steps, this episode is your invitation to reset how you think about income, planning, and faithful stewardship. Let’s align our mindset and our money with God’s bigger vision for our lives. In this episode, John discusses: The unseen impact of mental accounting on everyday financial choices How cognitive biases quietly shape spending decisions Strategies for bringing your money into alignment — spiritually and practically A faith-filled approach to financial planning Key Takeaways: When you begin viewing all sources of money — whether a paycheck, a bonus, or an unexpected refund — as one unified provision from God rather than assigning different rules based on origin, you create space for clarity, consistency, and faithful financial choices that reflect your values. By reframing your mindset and refusing to compartmentalize funds into rigid mental categories, you open the door to a more strategic, intentional, and spiritually aligned approach to managing the resources entrusted to you. Building a financial plan that reflects biblical wisdom requires more than budgeting — it invites you to consider your habits, decisions, and priorities through the lens of stewardship, generosity, and long-term faithfulness. Bringing prayer into every financial decision — not just in crisis moments or big moves — allows you to develop a deeper sense of peace, direction, and confidence that you're walking in step with God’s provision and purposes. “When we align our mindset and our heart set with God's wisdom, we don't just make better money decisions — we experience more peace, more clarity, more purpose in how we use the financial resources he's entrusted to us.” CLICK ON THE LINKS BELOW FOR MORE MONEY MADE FAITHFUL! Back-to-school shopping isn’t just about supplies and sneakers—it’s one of the best real-world opportunities to teach your kids how to manage money with wisdom and faith. In this refreshed replay of Part 2, we’re picking up where we left off last week to help you keep building strong financial habits in your children through everyday moments. If you’ve ever wondered how to talk with your kids about contentment, giving, or staying focused in a culture of impulse buying, this episode will give you practical steps and biblical truth to guide those conversations. These aren’t just money lessons—they’re heart lessons. The goal isn’t perfection, it’s faithful progress. So go slow, stay intentional, and let your kids catch you in some wise money moments they’ll remember. In this episode, John discusses: How to talk with your kids about contentment during the excitement of shopping Simple ways to model and explain generosity in everyday situations Involving your kids in age-appropriate budgeting and financial decision-making Helping your kids identify and overcome impulse buying behaviors Key Takeaways: Back-to-school shopping is more than a chore—it’s a hands-on, everyday setting to teach your kids contentment, generosity, budgeting, and how to slow down in a world full of impulse buys. When you invite your kids into age-appropriate budgeting, you're helping them grow real confidence with money by letting them plan, make choices, and think through tradeoffs. Give your kids tools to make smarter purchases by helping them plan ahead, name the difference between wants and needs, and spot the ways marketing can influence their decisions. As the back-to-school season ramps up, we’re revisiting one of the most timely and practical conversations of the year—with a refreshed edition of a listener favorite! This week kicks off a two-part series all about the back-to-school shopping experience. But instead of just ticking off the supply list, what if you used this annual tradition as a powerful teaching moment? In this refreshed replay, I’ll help you turn those shopping trips into an opportunity to build lifelong financial wisdom in your children—grounded in biblical stewardship. In this episode, John discusses: Teaching kids financial wisdom through back-to-school shopping The importance of parental influence on children’s financial habits Using biblical principles to teach kids about money Actionable tips for parents to instill money-savvy behavior in their children Key Takeaways: As parents, back-to-school shopping is a natural opportunity to instill biblical principles and practical money habits that will shape your children’s financial behavior for life. Studies show that parents are the biggest influence on their children’s money habits. Your kids are watching—so use your own financial behavior to model wise choices and faithful stewardship. Teaching kids about money takes time, patience, and repetition. It’s not about one big conversation—it’s about consistently demonstrating the values you want to pass on. Try using the “Show, Tell, Point” approach to walk your kids through budgeting, understanding needs vs. wants, comparison shopping, involving them in choices, and practicing delayed gratification. Each of these teaches a deeper financial lesson—rooted in both wisdom and faith. “There is no better time of year than back-to-school shopping to illustrate some of the core biblical principles and practical money habits that you want to see in your children.” CLICK ON THE LINKS BELOW FOR MORE MONEY MADE FAITHFUL! Have you ever felt so tired that even sleep can't fix it? A weariness that goes beyond your body, deep into your soul? This message is for every person carrying silent weight, fighting silent battles, and feeling like they're running on empty. In Part 2 of the Psalm 23 Collection, Pastor Travis Hearn preaches a word straight to the exhausted, overwhelmed, and soul-weary. It's not just that you're tired—it's that you're soul tired. But there's hope. There's healing. And there's rest—not the kind found in a nap or a vacation, but the kind only found in the presence of Jesus. Unpack Psalm 23:2 like never before: “He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters.” This isn't poetry—it's a prescription. When your soul is collapsing under pressure, God doesn't push you harder—He gently leads you to peace. This message explores how God restores the exhausted, how He leads with purpose, patience, and presence, and why rest is one of the most spiritual things you can do. If you're in a cave season, hiding like Elijah, God isn't done with you. The cave is not your coffin—it's your classroom. Get ready to come out different. Refreshed. Redeemed. Restored. Because when the Shepherd leads you beside still waters—you're not just surviving... You're healing. You're hydrating. You're home.
Some people believe they simply can't function in the morning until they've had a cup of coffee. Others seem to be grumpy every morning, as if they've got out of the wrong side of the bed. Of course, a poor night's sleep can be the cause, whether it be down to stress, not getting to bed early enough, drinking or other physical conditions like sleep apnea. Psychological factors can also come into play, like a lack of motivation in your job or relationship issues. But sleep quality and mental health aren't the only factors. A lot of us wake up and get up in a pretty suboptimal way. What's the best way to wake up then? What about having a lie-in to get extra sleep? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions ! Ever wondered why money conversations can feel so tense? You’re not alone… It often comes down to how your natural Money MOs (short for 'modus operandi') interact—with each other, or with your bigger goals. In this refreshed replay of part two in our Money MO series, we’re digging deeper into how awareness of your unique financial wiring can be a powerful step toward unity, peace, and purpose in your money decisions. This episode is about moving past the friction and into greater clarity, confidence, and connection—with each other and with God’s greater story for your life. In this episode, John discusses: Creating financial harmony in your relationships Building stronger marriages through meaningful money conversations Celebrating the uniqueness of your Money MO as a path to spiritual growth Applying your MO to build wise, aligned, and peaceful stewardship Key Takeaways: Your Money MO—whether you’re a spender, saver, investor, planner, or giver—isn’t about right or wrong; it’s about recognizing how you’re wired and using that awareness to move forward with more intention, alignment, and purpose in your financial decisions. When you start to see how your MO either blends beautifully or clashes with someone else’s, you open the door to more thoughtful conversations, less misunderstanding, and a shared path toward peace and partnership in money matters. Making space to meet regularly, speak honestly, and pray together around your finances is one of the most practical and powerful ways to reshape your habits, reduce conflict, and build a stronger foundation of trust and connection. Ephesians 4:11–16 reminds us that unity and maturity are part of our calling in Christ—and when your financial decisions are made through that lens, even money becomes a way to grow in faith, strengthen relationships, and reflect God’s greater purpose. “When you are pursuing wise and faithful stewardship through prayer about being a part of God's larger story, your differences can be strengths when they're joined together in faith and wisdom.” CLICK ON THE LINKS BELOW FOR MORE MONEY MADE FAITHFUL! Money is more than math—it’s deeply personal. And for many of us, it’s also deeply patterned. In this refreshed replay of a listener favorite, we revisit a conversation that continues to resonate across seasons: understanding your “Money MO.” Your money MO—short for modus operandi—is the natural way you approach money, shaped by your upbringing, personality, and experiences. Whether you're a spender, saver, investor, planner, or giver, your MO shows up around every financial decision you make. In this first part of a two-part series, we unpack the five core Money MOs and why identifying yours (and those around you) can shift the way you manage money—and relationships. In this episode, John discusses: What a “Money MO” is and why it matters Five distinct Money MOs and how they show up in real life The strengths and struggles of each MO How your financial tendencies impact your relationships and your faith journey Key Takeaways: Your Money MO is a deeply rooted pattern that influences how you think about, interact with, and make decisions around money, often without even realizing it. Gaining clarity about your financial tendencies can transform how you communicate and collaborate with others, especially within marriage or close relationships. Each MO carries both strengths and struggles, and recognizing these dynamics allows you to steward your financial behavior with more wisdom, grace, and intention. When surrendered within God’s bigger story, your Money MO becomes more than just a habit—it becomes a tool for spiritual growth, deeper connection, and faithful stewardship. “The goal here is not to make you into the same person, but to be the person you were made to be with your Money MOs, to have them be surrendered into the context of God's larger story.” CLICK ON THE LINKS BELOW FOR MORE MONEY MADE FAITHFUL! Sleep detoxifies our brains! Refined sugars, junk food, and late-night snacking can interfere with sleep. If you want better sleep, eat earlier in the day. For the best sleep, have your last meal around 5:00 p.m. If you're waking at night to urinate, intermittent fasting and a low-carb diet can help. Inflammatory foods, such as grains, can also interfere with your sleep. High carbohydrate diets increase your need for vitamin B1, which reduces anxiety and tension.Kefir contains probiotics that can build up serotonin, which turns into melatonin, the sleep hormone. L. reuteri yogurt also contains helpful probiotics to improve sleep. Consume ½ cup daily; it doesn't have to be before bed.Try the following tips for better sleep to help you wake up early feeling refreshed and energized!
