Few, if any, slasher villains have made as big an impact on the industry like Freddy Krueger. Initially conceived by an at the time down on his luck English professor turned filmmaker by the name of Wes Craven, Krueger starred in 1984's A Nightmare On Elm Street, and its impact has made its studio New Line Cinema to be known as the House The Freddy Built. But Craven quickly became disenchanted with his creation, as other filmmakers came in and made their stamp on the franchise with each subsequent sequel making its own impact on horror culture. So how high do we feel the franchise stands when it comes to horror history? Me, Matt, and the returning Mik Duffy take this series of podcasts to answer that very question. After Alice made her triumphant debut entry within the realm of Elm Street heroines in A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master, producers knew that they wanted to bring her back and once again have her battle with the series' razor fingered villain Freddy Krueger. So producer Sara Risher came up with the idea of bringing her pregnancy fears to the plot associated with her and teenagers of the era. The result was A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child. A movie that isn't as much debated amongst fans of the franchise as much as derided. So what would the three of us, especially Mik Duffy who hadn't seen it until this podcast, think of the result? We then move on to what was thought of as the final film of the franchise, Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare. After dismal box office returns greeted The Dream Child, the writing was on the wall that maybe Freddy's best days were behind him. So New Line Cinema hired longtime associate Rachel Talalay to take the directing reigns and kill him once and for all. Is the result as striking as the 3D in the movie wants us to believe? Listen below to find out! A Nightmare On Elm Street 5: The Dream Child (1989) (?/10, ?/10, ?/10)   Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare (1991) (?/10, ?/10, ?/10)   CLICK ABOVE TO LISTEN NOW! The 1980's in Arkansas was an interesting time. Cowboy discos were all the rage and rumor has it the Mafia was making its way to Little Rock. After Ron Orsini is found dead under mysterious circumstances, attention turns to his wife Mary Lee, who insists that the Mafia must have done it. Mary Lee hires William "Bill" McArthur, a well liked lawyer in Little Rock to help her case and soon forms a friendship with Bill and his wife Alice. After Alice's car is hit with a car bomb, the Mafia story doesn't seem so far off. March 28th 1998, was a normal day at Westside Middle School in Jonesboro, Arkansas until the fire alarm went off during 5th period. As students started filing out to the field behind the school, gunshots rang out across the school. Panic set in and in the four minutes the shooting lasted 5 would end up dead and 10 more would be wounded. As police arrived they caught the shooters attempting to flee, Mitchell Johnson, 13 and Andrew Golden, 11. They would become two of the youngest school shooters in history. Coroner Talk™ | Death Investigation Training | Police and Law Enforcement

Would you kill for love? True-crime master Ron Franscell tells the grisly story of a loving couple who killed at least four and lived happily ever after--while cops desperately tried for decades to piece together a petrifying tale of murder and secrets. The appalling details are made even more vivid by the author's familiarity with the Wyoming times and places that formed the backdrop of his national bestseller The Darkest Night. After Alice, a desperate young mother in a gritty Wyoming boomtown kills her husband in 1974 and dumps his body where it will never be found, she slips away and starts a new life with a new love. But when her new love's ex-wife and two kids start demanding more of him, Alice delivers an ultimatum: Fix the problem or lose her forever. With Alice's help, he "fixes" the problem in an extraordinarily ghastly way ... and they live happily ever after. That is, until 2013, almost forty years later, when somebody finds a dead man's skeleton in a place where Alice thought he'd never be found. Featuring a femme fatale whose manipulative, cold-blooded character rivals Lady Macbeth, this page-turner by bestselling true-crime author Ron Franscell revisits a shocking cold case that was finally solved just when the murderers thought they'd never be caught.

Luther returns with Kills, thrills, and ALICE! Join Joshua Wright and Erika Edwards as they discuss the mysterious investigations behind DCI John Luther. About Luther: John Luther is a Detective Chief Inspector (DCI) working for the Serious Crime Unit in series one, and the new "Serious and Serial" unit from series 2. A dedicated police officer, Luther is obsessive, possessed, and sometimes violent. However, Luther has paid a heavy price for his dedication; he has never been able to prevent himself from being consumed by the darkness of the crimes with which he deals. For Luther, the job always comes first. His dedication is a curse and a blessing, both for him and those close to him. In the very first episode of the series he investigates brilliant psychopath and murderer Alice Morgan. Ultimately he is unable to arrest her due to lack of evidence, but as the programme progresses, she becomes both his nemesis and unlikely companion. As she pursues her infatuation with him, he gradually relents as he is able to glean insight from her about some of the cunning criminals he pursues. After Alice helps Luther avenge the death of his estranged wife Zoe, Luther aids her escape from a secure facility and she flees the country. In Alice's absence, Luther's life is dominated by his police work once again, culminating in the murder of his partner and protégé Justin Ripley in the third series. Alice reappears following Ripley's death, and finally convinces Luther to leave London with her. When the fourth series begins, Luther is living a reclusive life on the English coast. After learning of Alice's apparent death in mysterious circumstances, he is persuaded to return to London and resume his role as a DCI. It ultimately transpires that Alice faked her own death after her life with Luther did not match their expectations. Two years later she returns to extort money from organised crime boss George Cornelius, who sabotaged her previous diamond exchange. Embroiled in her schemes again, Luther's relationship with Alice heads towards its destructive climax. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
