Season 1, Ep 1: We're finally there! Reloading lost episodes from the early Final Word, this is episode No1. London 2015, with our new Ashes podcast project not signed off in time to cover the first Test in Cardiff, we got started after the second Test at Lord's. Australia had been beaten badly in the first match, only to take the next when Mitchell Johnson went on the last of his magical sprees with the ball. Emma John, then of the Observer, and Phil Walker, then of All Out Cricket, were our guests in a conversation that sprawled way past our instructed running time, and was a lot of fun on the way. A style was set... This season was originally recorded for the ABC - this is an extended edition restoring original material. Season 1, Ep 2: Reloading lost episodes from the early Final Word, we're all the way back to our second episode ever. This came after Australia got shot out of the sky in Birmingham during the 2015 Ashes, for England to take a lead 2-1 with two matches to play. Geoff was joined by fellow writers Will Macpherson and Subash Jayaraman, with Adam absent at a wedding or something. Hot quotes include Will: "If you can't enjoy watching Mitchell Johnson bowl at his best you don't actually understand this sport." And Geoff, looking ahead to Trent Bridge: "Do you expect Australia to take advantage of a depleted attack?" This season was originally recorded for the ABC - this is an edited and remastered edition. Season 2, Ep 2: Reloading lost episodes from the early Final Word. In 2015, the deadest WACA track in history made Mitchell Johnson retire on the spot. Dave Warner belted a million while wearing a WWII moustache, then Ross Taylor went back before WWI to take down the ancient record of Reginald Tip Foster. Kane Williamson was perfect, Brian Lara was in touch with Usman Khawaja, and if Mitchell Starc really bowled 161 kilometres an hour, does that mean Tim Southee clocked 146? Also... oh Christ... of course they announced bringing back Shaun Marsh. This season was originally recorded for the ABC. But will the Test be a different ball game? o England spinners looking good – particularly Sophie Ecclestone · England Test selections for India o Shoab Bashir – Who? o No Jacks or Dawson o Foakes returns – he must keep surely o Stokes as batsmen only – what is the right balance · Mitchell Johnson vs David Warner o Handbags at dawn or does Mitchell have a point? The Two For None drinks runners, Alexander Spinks and Oliver Crump, have been thrown in to open the batting as our Numbers 1 and 2, Pat and Barto, have had to leave the team for the summer on compassionate grounds so they can get marries and have children. Together? Not to Spinks' knowledge, but they would be a great pairing. Featuring Adam Hassan and Pat Cullen, we chat about the upcoming series against Pakistan, who could replace David Warner when he retires (presumably at Sydney), will he make it that far or will Mitchell Johnson come out of retirement to bowl a beamer at Warner in the nets to speed up that retirement plan? We shall wait and see! Featured clips and music this episode included Don't Stop Me Now by Queen UMI 1974, Fight For Your Right by The Beastie Boys Def Jam Records 1986, and Channel 9 News 9/12/2023. Season 15, Episode 13: Mitchell Johnson can still steam in - which he did this week, aiming some pelters at David Warner and George Bailey. Yep, that's correct. You see the colors above, and nary a Purple Power to be found. No more UW-Whitewater, no Mount Union, and of course, none of those other prominent purple powerhouses that failed to make the field. Instead, you've got the familiar red of North Central, plus Cortland as actual Red Dragons, along with the Yellow Jackets of Randolph-Macon and the orange of Wartburg. These teams got here through a pretty fantastic quarterfinal round, and Patrick and Greg talk about it all. We sit down with DeAngelo Hardy of North Central after his amazing day where he filled the stat sheet in ways you wouldn't imagine possible in one person. Keith McMillan makes another return to the podcast and chats with Mitchell Johnson and Nick Hale, two of the four key running backs for Randolph-Macon. Zac Boyes talks about finding his receiver wide open on a key play that broke the Cortland game at Alma wide open, and Wartburg's Hunter Clasen talks about catching the game-winning touchdown pass against UW-Whitewater. Plus, our listener question: What does each team need to do defensively this week in order to succeed? It's The Mitchell Johnson Cricket Show, with our great friend and regular co-host, Bharat Sundaresan. This is a new project for the two of them, which has been some time in planning. It will be where, as they say in their intro, tell 'the story of the man behind the mo'. As that passage goes on to say, “despite his fierce exterior, there was a vulnerability underneath” and that's something Mitch is very happy to explain and discuss, both from his playing days and the years since. We've had Mitch on The Final Word before at a London live show in 2019 - he was an excellent guest, and we're sure this show is going to be a fine contribution to the cricket podcasting world. After being ridiculed by the English fans and media following his dismal performance in the 2010-2011 Ashes series, Australian fast bowler Mitchell Johnson proved himself on home ground in 2013 by destroying England's batting order. Taking 37 wickets and being named Player of the Series, Johnson dominated the tests which became known as Johnson's Ashes. He speaks to the BBC as part of their coverage of the 2023 Ashes series.
