Internal fortitude and complementary partners; these are the two key factors that contribute to success, according to today's guest, Sam Bates. Although Sam always knew he wanted to be in real estate, it took a mindset shift and a few unfortunate deals for him to really be able to commit himself fully to the industry. That first deal taught Sam a lot, and motivated him to go out and start his own company. We hear about Sam's subsequent experiences with real estate deals of varying types, the differing impacts that the COVID-19 pandemic has had on his investments, and his thoughts about the direction that the industry is heading. Although Sam had done nothing wrong, he lost his job on the assembly line. Carelessness in another division led to problems in cars they built. After several crashes made the news, leery customers stopped buying their brand. The company had to downsize, leaving Sam out of work. He’s collateral damage, and it isn’t fair. It never is. History’s first collateral damage occurred immediately after the first sin. Adam and Eve were ashamed of their nakedness, so God graciously clothed them with “garments of skin” (v. 21). It’s painful to imagine, but one or more animals that had always felt safe with God were now slaughtered and skinned. There was more to come. God told Israel, “Every day you are to provide a year-old lamb without defect for a burnt offering to the Lord; morning by morning you shall provide it” (Ezekiel 46:13). Every. Single. Day. How many thousands of animals have been sacrificed because of human sin? Their death was necessary to cover our sin until Jesus, the Lamb of God, came to remove it (John 1:29). Call this “collateral repair.” As Adam’s sin kills us, so the Last Adam’s [Christ’s] obedience restores all who believe in Him (Romans 5:17–19). Collateral repair isn’t fair—it cost Jesus’ life—but it’s free. Reach out to Jesus in belief and receive the salvation He offers, and His righteous life will count for you.

Welcome to Day 1457 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomI Can't Believe It! – Humor UnpluggedWisdom - the final frontier to true knowledge. Welcome to Wisdom-Trek! Where our mission is to create a legacy of wisdom, to seek out discernment and insights, to boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Hello, my friend, I am Guthrie Chamberlain, your Captain on our journey to increase Wisdom and Create a Living Legacy. Thank you for joining us today as we explore wisdom on our 2nd millennium of podcasts. This is Day 1457 of our Trek, and time for a 3-minute mini-trek called Humor Unplugged. Our Thursday podcast will provide a short and clean funny story to help you lighten up and live a rich and satisfying life. Something to cheer you and give a bit a levity in your life. We are told in https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs+15:30&version=NLT (Proverbs 15:30) A cheerful look brings joy to the heart; good news makes for good health. We are also encouraged in https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs+17:22&version=NLT (Proverbs 17:22) A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit saps a person's strength. Consider this your vitamin supplement of cheer for today. So let's jump right in with today's funny which is titled: I Can't Believe It!Sam seemed to be late for just about everything. As was his habit, Sam was running a little behind schedule when he arrives at the movie theater to watch a movie that he was really looking forward to it. Although Sam was late, he figured maybe the previews were still playing, so he goes in to watch the movie that has already started. He sat there for several minutes, allowing his eyes to adjust to the darkness and immediately became engrossed in the movie. After a few minutes, he was surprised to see a dog sitting beside its master in the row ahead of him. Sam noticed that the dog was actually intently watching the movie. The dog even seemed to be enjoying the movie: he was wagging its tail in the happy parts of the movie, drooping its ears at the sad parts, and hiding his eyes with its paws at the scary parts. Sam was so intrigued that it was getting hard to pay attention to the movie. After the movie, Sam approached the dog's owner and exclaimed, “Wow, your dog really seemed to enjoy the movie. I'm amazed!” The owner looked at Sam with a proud look on his face and said, “Yes, I can't believe it myself. He hated the book.”I hope that brought a smile to your face today. If it did pass your smile onto some else, we all could use a kind smile each day. Our Thursday thought is, “Outside of a dog, a book is a man's best friend. Inside of a dog, it's too dark to read.” Here is our verse for today: https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs%2026%3A11&version=NLT (Proverbs 26:11) As a dog returns to its vomit, so a fool repeats his foolishness. Just as you enjoy these nuggets of humor, please encourage your friends and family to join us and then come along tomorrow for another day of ‘Wisdom-Trek, Creating a Legacy.' If you would like to listen to any of our past 1456 treks or read the Wisdom Journal, they are all available at Wisdom-Trek.com. I encourage you to subscribe to Wisdom-Trek on your favorite podcast player so that each day will be downloaded to you automatically. Thank you for allowing me to be your guide, mentor, and most importantly, I am your friend as I serve you in through this Wisdom-Trek podcast and journal each day. As we take this Trek of life together, let us always: Live Abundantly (Fully) Love Unconditionally Listen Intentionally Learn Continuously Lend to others Generously Lead with Integrity Leave a Living Legacy Each Day I am Guthrie Chamberlain….reminding you to 'Keep Moving Forward,'...
Being centered, letting go, and keeping things fun were tenets of Sam Long's childhood. Taught to him by his mother, who is a psychologist, Sam learned to hone his mindset at a young age. These mental skills have no doubt served him well in his triathlon career first as an age-grouper and now going into his fourth year as a professional. Although Sam is just 24-years old, he is no rookie to the sport of triathlon. Sam raced his first Ironman at the age of 18, where he won his age group and punched his ticket to the Ironman World Championship. He earned his first Ironman win in Chattanooga last fall, which marked his 15th Ironman start. Despite three other wins over the 2019 season, it was this Ironman win that took Sam's career to the next level, and we can't wait to see what manifests from here. Sam's genuine nature shines in our conversation, and his proclivity to have fun feels infectious. We hope that you take away a renewed commitment to fun and letting go, resting like a Kenyan runner and staying the course toward your dreams. We are so grateful to our new Patreon supporters, Amy, Abby, and Renee, thank you so much for assisting us in keeping the lights on here at the YTP. We wouldn't exist without you guys; we are so grateful for every time you listen in, pledge your support, and share the show. Thank you. Namaste - Jess

Sam has directly managed all stripes of designers and seen both successful and unsuccessful UX initiatives from up-close. The company specializes in exec level guidance on product design. As regular listeners will tell you, I do like to bust a few myths and right a few wrongs on this podcast, so I ask Sam finally lay to rest some of the misconceptions around what is UX? and also what isn't UX? Sam shares his story and how he founded and grew 2 UX teams from scratch and the biggest lessons he has learned along the way? We also discuss the increasingly blurred lines between B2B and B2C and what this means for UX.

Tonight's special guest is Sam Young from Houston, Texas, a former dedicated Mormon leader who discovered that four of his six daughters were being interrogated with sexually explicit questions by bishops, through a private, closed-door Mormon interview practice. At first, the church responded with a minor but significant policy change. Although Sam had lived his entire life as a Mormon, in September 2018, that all ended with his excommunication. As Sam relates, “Rather than implement the protections that our movement was calling for, the Church responded by kicking the whistleblower out. I was willing to put everything on the line and stand up for what is right for our kids. Although my religious affiliation has been sacrificed, I will not allow my voice to be sacrificed into silence.” An activist now, Sam is leading an effort called 'Protect Every Child' and is here to talk about his life and a wonderful upcoming event: On Saturday, October 5th, 2019, a major ‘March & Rally for The Children’ is being held in Salt Lake City, Utah. NAASCA is a participant in supporting these efforts and encourages anyone who lives close enough to attend. Sam states, “My original goal was to Protect Mormon (LDS) children. During 2018 and early 2019, as scandal after scandal after scandal of child abuse continued to erupt, I realized EVERY CHILD is at risk. Enough is Enough. Adults need to stand up and shout from the mountain tops that abuse of children must stop. We won’t take it anymore.”

Hi friends, Brooke Andrews here. I want to take you back to 2008 to give you a glimpse into the heart and vision of our guest speaker, a friend of mine. In 2008, Kevin Palau, the president of the Luis Palau Association (LPA), reached out to Sam Adams, one of the first openly gay mayors in the United States. Kevin showed up to ask how LPA might come alongside Sam to address critical needs in the community. Although Sam and his administration were skeptical and couldn't quite figure out why "a group of Christians would want to associate themselves with someone with whom they disagreed so vigorously on issues like same-sex marriage and abortion," they agreed to work together because they were both desperate. Kevin describes that, on behalf of the evangelical community in Portland, he was desperate to change the perception of the church in one of the most politically progressive and unchurched cities in the country in order to make progress for the gospel, and he knew he needed to start with relationships. As Kevin and Sam's relationship grew and trust was established, Palau mobilized thousands of churches to get involved with hunger, homelessness, healthcare, the environment, the public school system, foster care, and trafficking in Portland. For Palau, spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ was always the ultimate goal. They wanted to bring the Gospel to life in a tangible way. Kevin said, "What we want is for people who are far from Christ, or who maybe had a bad experience growing up as a kid, wherever they are to say, 'I'm surprised. I didn't realize that these Christians who I viewed a certain way, were the most loving, kind, caring people. They have their convictions. They love to talk about Jesus Christ. Maybe I'm ready for that, or not ready for that, but I can't argue with the fact that they're showing up in the deepest, darkest places of pain and hurt in our city, and they want to make a difference." Under Kevin's leadership, the Luis Palau Association has partnered with tens of thousands of local churches to produce large Christian gatherings in cities around the globe, pioneered a festival model that includes a citywide service initiative preceding the festival event and was designed for long-term sustainability well after the festival, and developed Palau's Next Generation Alliance, which exists to serve up-and-coming evangelists through mentoring and equipping. Take Me Home - Pet Adoption and Animal Rescue - Pets & Animals on Pet Life Radio (PetLifeRadio.com)
Susan Daffron talks to Bridgette Mongeon from the Homeless Pet Placement League in Houston, Texas about a one-year old black Labrador retriever named Sam (short for Samantha). Bridgette is Sam's "foster mom." She and her husband have been fostering dogs (especially puppies!) on a regular basis for HPPL, but Sam actually was a dog they found. Sam was wandering the street, in heat, with a rope wrapped around her throat, body, and trailing behind her. This dog obviously had not been well cared for by her previous owner and Bridgette was relieved when no one came forward to claim Sam. Malnourished and skinny, Sam also had mange, heart worms and other problems, but after a few months in foster care living the "good life" and receiving veterinary treatment, you would never know it. As you can see from the photo, Sam's fur just gleams and she's clearly a happy healthy girl now. Although Sam had a rough beginning, she is truly a "marvelous dog" (to quote Bridgette). Sam likes to play, go for walks, and even knows a few commands. If you like Labs or other retrievers, you'll love Sam!
