International Women's Day isn't country or organisation specific. It's a day of collective global activism and celebration that belongs to all those committed to forging women's equality. In recent years the narrative around international women's day has changed though, with some arguing that it's become ‘corporatised' and ‘performative' as to lose all meaning. Which is why in this week's episode of the Public Sector Podcast we've chosen to focus on the tangible – the strategies and transformations doing their part to drive action and change for women in the workforce. Isabeau Korpel, Melissa Martino and Sue-Ann Charlton discuss strategies to breakdown class ceilings and accelerate womens' opportunities in the workplace in a special edition of the Public Sector Podcast. International Women's Day is a day to recognise how far we've come towards gender equality, and also how far we have left to go. Don't get us wrong - a little over a hundred years ago only a handful of countries allowed women to vote and equal pay for equal work was unheard of. We're making strides in the right direction, but there's still more work to be done. In recognition of IWD we've bought together a panel of women leaders making considerable contributions to their respective organizations in the pursuit of women's empowerment, belonging and relevance. Dr Jessica Jones, Michaela Doelman and Silvia Fraser discuss the importance of investing in women and accelerating progress in this week's episode of the Public Sector Podcast. (superfly.fm)

Episode #151 - This WONDERFUL WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH WEDNESDAY, we proudly celebrate amazing women. Women's History Month is an annual declared month that highlights the contributions of women to events in history and contemporary society. It is celebrated during March in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia, corresponding with International Women's Day on March 8, and during October in Canada, corresponding with the celebration of Persons Day on October 18. The commemoration began in 1978 as "Women's History day" in Sonoma County California, and was championed by Gerda Lerner and the National Women's History Alliance to be recognized as a national week (1980) and then month (1987) in the United States, spreading internationally after that. In 1987, after being petitioned by the National Women's History Project, Congress passed Pub. L. 100-9 which designated the month of March 1987 as Women's History Month. Between 1988 and 1994, Congress passed additional resolutions requesting and authorizing the President to proclaim March of each year as Women's History Month. Since 1988, U.S. presidents have issued annual proclamations designating the month of March as Women's History Month. Did you know women couldn't get their own credit cards until 1974? In this final episode of our "Psychology of Faith" series, we will be talking about definitions of faith but also about how faith is manifested in a believer. Is faith part of "nature" or "nurture?" How is faith "lived?" Building upon previous episodes' points about Christianity, this episode shows that the Christian concept of faith is more than just a "belief in something." It also encourages action and change in a believer. Dr. Dan interviews lawyer, divorce expert, and author Jacqueline Newman about her new book THE NEW RULES OF DIVORCE: 12 Secrets to Protecting Your Wealth, Health, and Happiness. Jacqueline Newman is the managing partner at the matrimonial law firm Berkman Bottger Newman & Schein LLP in New York City. Jacqueline has appeared as an expert commentator on various television and radio shows and an expert on NBC News, ABC News, CBS News, The New York Times, Fox Business, Woman's Day, Glamour, the New York Post, Reuters.com, Crain's New York Business, U.S. News and World Report, Business Insider, Time.com, USA Today, Yahoo Parenting, Woman's Day, CNBC.com and The Huffington Post. Newman’s book THE NEW RULES OF DIVORCE: 12 Secrets to Protecting Your Wealth, Health, and Happiness, was recognized by Oprah Magazine as one of "the best divorce books to help you heal during every stage of the process." Today, with the pandemic, it is predicted that divorce in the US will be going through an unprecedented and historic transformation according to Jacqueline. Marriages on a brink of breaking up are usually pushed over to the side of divorce when extenuating circumstances take over...some marriages will grow stronger and others will unravel. How will COVID-19 impact divorce? According to Jacqueline, everything from child custody hearings to how legal papers are filed to ending marriages is going to change. The first statistic that we are likely to observe is the divorce rate increasing in the US as a result of stress, financial strain, and other challenges exaggerated during the pandemic. For example, when one parent feels their ex-spouse is putting their children at risk by not adhering to shelter-in-place mandates or refusing to practice social distancing -- this will be a new challenge that could potentially change custody. Dr. Dan and Jacqueline discuss modern divorce including: The roles of Dads requesting shared and equal custody The importance of self-care for both parents during the stress of divorce Why both parents need to keep their marriage’s intimacy problems away from children -- even adult children There really are some benefits of divorce for children How to talk to kids about divorce Jacqueline’s Parent Footprint Moment is about honesty and transparency -- and demonstrates how telling the truth about our mistakes (and owning them) is one of the most important lessons for our children. George and Christina Markoski have generated huge media interest with their decision to sign up for Cryonics. Based on a Greek term meaning cold, Cryonics is the process of preserving the body at extremely low temperatures, after death, with the prospect of being revived to full health in the far future. Christina is the youngest person in Australia to sign up for Cryonics, which she did at twenty-two years of age. In this episode, George and Christina discuss this contentious topic and why they've decided to take out this ‘life insurance' policy. They explain how Cryonics works and what the scientific potential might be in the future for the revival stage. They also answer some of the moral questions and critics' comments surrounding this controversial procedure. Find out why, a corpse today is tomorrow's patient and why we might be living in an era of the last mortal generation!
Cryonics is the low-temperature preservation (usually at −196°C) of people who cannot be sustained by contemporary medicine, with the hope of being revived to full health that may be possible in the far future. Is it crazy to freeze yourself when you die? Or is it just insurance against time until we become an immortal generation? Did Walt Disney freeze himself and what about heaven? We answer these questions and more, pressing subjects on the somewhat controversial topic of cryonics.
