Footy is back and boy are we excited! We finally got our first look at Jagga Smith, and we weren't disappointed. Smith showed class, calmness with the ball, with inside game and scoreboard impact as well. He is everything that the Blues have been lacking and 'he has set the standard high. Sydney & GWS played in heavy rain conditions, while Melbourne & Richmond's game was abandoned due to lightning. The Western Bulldogs came out the box firing and never looked losing against the Hawks and kicked a big score even without Sam Darcy. Will Jai Newcombe be the first to fall victim to the Dump tackle suspensions? The Ball is the AFL's Court to set the standard that they want to abide in 2026. Nine teams down, nine to go and Corbin and Ben pull out the magnifying glass to work out who's finals disappointment will spur them on and who could slide further. Can the Western Bulldogs shore up their defence to complement a start studded midfield, will an already packed injury list be too much for the GWS Giants this year, can Fremantle hit the accelerator more consistently, might the Crows fall back to the pack after their 18 win season and will more history be made for the Gold Coast Suns with the addition of Petracca and Jamarra?ABC AFL commentators Corbin Middlemas and Ben Cameron are joined by a rolling squad of former AFL players and legends of the game to analyse matches, deep dive the stories dominating the footy landscape, recap game highlights and talk through the latest AFL ladder standings. Luke Darcy is a Western Bulldogs star in his own right and a former high profile media star to boot. These days though, it is being dad to the AFL's hottest property - Sam Darcy - that is shaping his media appearances. But wait, there's more. Sam's eighteen year old brother Will has been drafted to the red, white and blue as well. Food Bytes dragged Luke away from his parental duties to chat about his life, his dubious kitchen skills, the food that is his kyrptonite and a media career that crossed paths with Sarah's in the early hours of weekday mornings on Triple M's Hot Breakfast with Eddie McGuire, where even the coffee was special. Matthew and Nicholas wrap up all the latest news surrounding the Western Bulldogs.
Fresh from pre-season camp in Australia, Richard Graves sits down with Stan Parker, Sports Scientist at the Western Bulldogs, to explore how tracking data, contextual analytics, and interdisciplinary collaboration shape performance in elite AFL. Stan's journey spans the Brisbane Broncos in the NRL, Queensland Rugby Sevens, and now five seasons embedded within the Bulldogs' high-performance programme, including a PhD focused on contextualising tracking data beyond simple load metrics. This episode moves beyond “distance covered” and “top speed” to examine how sports science actually influences coaching decisions, athlete development, injury management, and tactical execution. From peak demand analysis and real-world decision-making under fatigue, to AI readiness and workflow efficiency, this is a grounded, practitioner-led conversation about where elite sport is really heading. In this episode you will learn: Why contextualising tracking data matters more than collecting more of it How to compare peak training demands to peak match demands The role of vision and video in translating data for coaches and players How to build buy-in when athletes aren't “numbers learners” The balance between availability and performance in weekly competition cycles How interdisciplinary decision-making works inside an AFL club Why isolated fatigue “flags” can be misleading How gym-based physical development can be directly tied to on-field outcomes The importance of soft skills in high-performance environments Where AI realistically fits (and doesn't fit) in elite sports science About Stan Parker Stan Parker is a Sports Scientist with the Western Bulldogs in the AFL. He has previously worked with the Brisbane Broncos and Queensland Rugby Sevens, building experience across multiple elite sporting codes in Australia. Stan is also completing a PhD focused on the contextualisation of tracking data in team sports, exploring how movement patterns and peak demands can better explain performance impact rather than serving purely as load monitoring tools. He is particularly interested in bridging the gap between data analytics, coaching vision, and real-world performance application.
