In 2021, Star Trek actor William Shatner enjoyed the opportunity to be catapulted into space in a rocket capsule. When he later reflected on the voyage, he said everything he had expected about the experience was wrong. He’d anticipated the vastness of space would give him a deep sense of connection to all living things, but instead he felt grief: he found the darkness of space cold and empty which distilled in him a new awareness of earth’s beauty and fragility. Not many people have ventured into space to have such an experience firsthand. The Bible’s account of God’s creative work in the cosmos invites us to see it through His eyes. God’s first recorded actions were to create “the heavens and the earth” bringing order to what was “formless and empty” and “[separating] the light from the darkness” (Genesis 1:1-2, 4). The rest of the creation account unfolds all the good things God brought into being, including vegetation, creatures, and, ultimately, His image bearers—humans. While the entirety of creation—even the darkest, farthest reaches of space—reveals God’s power and might, we’ve been given special insight into His work right here on earth. The beauty that surrounds us beckons us to worship the One who made it all.

There’s a poignant scene near the end of Frederick Buechner’s novel Brendan. The character Gildas stands up to reveal one of his legs missing from the knee down. As he reaches for his walking stick, he loses his balance. Brendan leaps up and catches him. “I’m as crippled as the dark world,” Gildas says. “If it comes to that, which one of us isn’t?” Brendan replies. “To lend each other a hand when we’re falling. Perhaps that’s the only work that matters in the end.” In 2 Samuel 9, we find King David desiring to show kindness to anyone still living from the house of Saul (v. 1). There is one, Mephibosheth, “a son of Jonathan; lame in both feet” (v. 3). Mephibosheth is ushered into the king’s presence where he hears these words: “I will restore to you all the land that belonged to your grandfather Saul, and you will always eat at my table” (v. 7). And he always did. Scripture is full of unforgettable stories of David and giants and armies and kings and kingdoms—the stuff of movies. But the Bible also remembers this poignant kindness shown toward a person in need—the story of someone lending a hand to another. After all the big, flashy scenes fade, it’s possible that kindness such as David extended to Mephibosheth is the work that matters most in the end. Lending a hand is the kind of work you and I can be about each and every day.

And in all we do, direct us to the fulfilling of your purpose through Jesus Christ Our Lord amen. Oh God you have made of one blood all the peoples of the earth and sent your blessed son to preach peace to those who are far and those who are near. Grant that people everywhere may seek after you, and find you. Bring the nations into your fold, pour out your Spirit on all flesh, and hasten the coming of your kingdom through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen. And now Lord, make me an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon. Where there is doubt, faith. Where there is despair, hope. Where there is darkness, light. And where there is sadness, Joy. Oh Lord grant that I might not seek to be consoled as to console. To be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love. For it is in the giving that we receive, in the pardoning that we are pardoned, it is in the dying that we are born unto eternal life. Amen And now as our Lord has taught us we are bold to pray... Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven, give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our tresspasses as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not unto temptation, but deliver us from evil, for thine is the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. Loving God, we give you thanks for restoring us in your image. And nourishing us with spiritual food, now send us forth as forgiven people, healed and renewed, that we may proclaim your love to the world, and continue in the risen life of Christ. Amen. After a four-year-old boy accidentally broke a rare 3,500-year-old Bronze Age jar displayed at a museum in Israel, he received a kind and surprising response. The museum staff forgave him and invited him back. Roee Shafir, speaking for the Hecht Museum, said doing so heightened global interest in the restoration process and might serve to inspire the boy’s interest in history and archaeology—a healing and positive outcome. The story brings to mind God’s compelling declaration of His forgiveness after rebellion by the Israelites. They’d rebelled against Him by begging Moses’ brother Aaron to make a gold calf for them for idol worship (Exodus 32:1). “When Moses approached the camp and saw the calf and the dancing, his anger burned and he threw the tablets [of covenant law] out of his hands, breaking them to pieces at the foot of the mountain” (v. 19). At God’s instruction, “Moses chiseled out two stone tablets like the first ones and went up Mount Sinai early in the morning” (34:4). When God came down, He “passed in front of Moses, proclaiming Himself, ‘The Lord, the Lord, the compassionate and gracious God . . . maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin’ ” (vv. 6-7). What a profound reminder. Despite our worst sins, God still forgives. He yearns to restore us.

As a boy, I loved reading stories about pirates. How those adventures spurred my imagination! Now I live in an area where one of the most infamous of those pirates—Blackbeard (real name: Edward Teach)—had his headquarters. Shipwrecked in the waters off the coast here is Blackbeard’s ship, the Queen Anne’s Revenge. We can easily romanticize the wrecks and the high-sea adventures of history. The apostle Paul, however, wrote about a very different kind of shipwreck that provides us with a caution and an exhortation. In his first letter to Timothy, Paul warned his son in the faith to “[hold] on to faith and a good conscience, which some have rejected and so have suffered shipwreck with regard to the faith” (1 Timothy 1:19). What is this “shipwreck”? Two men, Hymenaeus and Alexander, had in some devastating way departed from the true faith, and the apostle turned them over to Satan “to be taught not to blaspheme” (v. 20). Paul desired them to repent, but the consequences of their actions were dire. Our faith isn’t static, nor can it exist in a vacuum. We must actively nurture and cultivate our relationship with God to grow strong and healthy in faith and good conscience. May we join with other believers, yield to God’s Spirit, and allow Him to work in us. We can avoid shipwreck.

Embark on this year-long voyage through the Bible, and let each day's passage uplift and inspire you. TODAY'S EPISODE: Welcome to the Daily Radio Bible! In today's episode for October 24th, 2025, your host Hunter takes us through another inspiring day in our journey through the Bible. We begin with the story of Job—hearing Eliphaz's second response and wrestling with the questions of suffering, justice, and the nature of God. Then, we move into the Book of Acts, chapters 19 and 20, where we follow Paul's powerful ministry in Ephesus, witness miracles, confrontations with false teachers, public upheaval, and ultimately Paul's heartfelt farewell to church leaders he loves deeply. Hunter reflects on Paul's last message to the Ephesians—a message centered on God's grace, encouraging us to trust not in our own efforts, but in Christ alone. In the midst of life's chaos and busyness, Hunter invites us to ground ourselves in the peace and love of God, joining together in prayer and finding strength in the truth that we are deeply loved. Whether you're starting your day or looking for a moment of quiet, today's episode is all about embracing God's comfort, direction, and unfailing grace. Let's dive in together and draw closer to the heart of God. TODAY'S DEVOTION: I'm going to trust you. We hear Paul in Acts 20 saying farewell to a church that was dear to him, to people he had spent years with, nurturing, living among, pouring out his life for. He tells them this is his final message, entrusting them not to rules or traditions or a complicated system of religious effort, but to the message of God's grace—grace that builds us up and gives us what we need. “And now I entrust you to God and the message of his grace that is able to build you up and give you an inheritance with all those who have been set apart for himself.” This isn't just any message. It's the only message Paul gives. It's the good news that what we need most—life, forgiveness, inheritance, a way forward—comes to us through Christ alone. We so easily twist this message, turning our attention away from Jesus and onto ourselves—our striving, our trying, our religious observance—as if we could earn or construct what has already been given. But grace is not about trying harder, hoping we measure up or wondering if we've done enough. Grace is about resting, trusting, and participating in the life of Christ, knowing that he is enough to make us new, equip us for all of life, and bring us into the fullness of God's love. Paul's final charge is simple: build your life on this message. Trust that the work is done, that Christ is enough. Step into his grace, the only ground safe enough and strong enough for our joy, our hope, and our peace. That's a prayer I have for my own soul. That's a prayer I have for my family, for my wife, my daughters, my son. And that's a prayer that I have for you. May it be so. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Almighty and ever loving God, you have brought us to the light of a new morning. Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit that we may walk this day in peace. Guard our steps from temptation. Shield us from the weight of fear and shame, and lead us deeper into the joy of your presence, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen. O Christ, light of the nations, shine in every place where shadows dwell. Call the scattered home. Heal the wounds of division and gather all people into the communion of your grace. May the knowledge of the Lord cover the earth as the waters cover the sea. Amen. And our Lord make my hands ready And now as our Lord has taught us we are bold to pray... Louise, a project manager, regretted taking on the freelance job. Both the client and designer were testing her patience. Why is it so difficult? she wondered. Why can’t these people get it together? Weeks later, as she read Proverbs 27, verse 17 stood out—“iron sharpens iron.” “You can’t file down rough edges with something soft, like silk,” she told her small group soon after, “you need something hard, like iron.” Louise realized that the challenges in the project were smoothing down some rough edges of her own. She was learning to be more patient and humble, and to adapt to different working styles. God, she concluded, was using the project to expose her flaws and teach her new lessons about working with others. Much of the book of Proverbs extols the value of godly wisdom, but this wisdom doesn’t come easily. It needs to be sought after with obedience and discernment (3:13; 13:20; 19:20), and refined in crucibles, furnaces, and mortars (27:21-22)—situations that may mean temporary pain and suffering. Yet the Bible reminds us that challenges come with rewards: in seeking God’s wisdom diligently and obeying His ways, we will find true security, satisfaction, and blessing (vv. 26-27).

After being arrested when an $87.26 check for groceries bounced, Sheena Meade learned firsthand the harsh impact having an arrest on one’s record can have—from employment to housing to education to even volunteer opportunities. But Sheena also experienced the transforming effects of those willing to offer her a chance, enabling her “to be able to walk into a room and feel seen, not as damaged goods, but as untapped potential.” Sheena’s story shows that how a person is seen and evaluated by others can have a significant impact on the trajectory of their life. In the gospel story of God’s love, we learn to see each person, not as damaged goods but as someone of priceless value and potential. The apostle Paul wrote that Christ’s death “for all” (2 Corinthians 5:15) changes how we see each other. Because every person is someone Jesus died for, we’re to “regard no one from a worldly point of view” (v. 16). When we feel defined by or even damaged by our past, we can take refuge in Christ, who makes us new. For “if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” (v. 17). Through Christ, we’re invited into fellowship and intimacy with God (v. 20), and into a life where we can serve with purpose in His kingdom. Every day, God welcomes us into a new life with Him.

My three-year-old niece is beginning to understand that she can trust Jesus in any situation. This became evident one night as she prayed before bedtime during a thunderstorm. She pressed her hands together, closed her eyes, and said: “Dear Jesus, I know You’re here with us. I know You love us. And I know that the storm will stop when You tell it to stop.” I suspect she had recently heard the story of Jesus and the disciples as they crossed the Sea of Galilee. It’s the one where Jesus fell asleep in the back of the boat just before a squall nearly capsized the vessel. The disciples woke Him and said, “Don’t you care if we drown?” Jesus didn’t speak to them, but instead addressed the natural world: “Quiet! Be still!” (Mark 4:39). Immediately, the water stopped splashing into the boat. The howling wind subsided. There in the silence, Jesus looked at His followers and said, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” (v. 40). I imagine their wide eyes staring back at Him, as water coursed down their faces and dripped from their beards. What if we could live today with the awe the disciples felt in that moment? What if we could view every concern with a fresh awareness of Jesus’ authority and power? Maybe then our childlike faith would chase away our fear. Maybe then we would believe that each storm we face is at His mercy.

Embark on this year-long voyage through the Bible, and let each day's passage uplift and inspire you. TODAY'S EPISODE: Welcome to the Daily Radio Bible! In today's episode, host Hunter walks with us through day 295 of our journey in Scripture. We'll be diving into Job chapters 9 and 10, exploring Job's honest wrestling with suffering and God's justice, and then traveling to the book of Acts, chapters 13 and 14, where Barnabas and Paul boldly proclaim the life-changing message of Christ's grace—a message that meets both miraculous acceptance and real resistance. Hunter encourages us to draw courage from the grace that meets us where we are, reminding us that in a “grace-resistant world,” it's only through Christ's love that our lives are transformed. The episode is filled with heartfelt prayers, reflections on what it means to belong to God's family, and an invitation to keep moving forward together, one step at a time, opening our hearts to the living Word. So take a moment, settle in, and let God's Word direct your heart today. You're loved, you're invited, and you're not alone on this journey. Let's get started! TODAY'S DEVOTION: Living in Grace in a Grace-Resistant World. The beautiful message brought by Barnabas and Paul is God's grace—for all people, Jew and Gentile alike. All are invited, all are included, into the triune life of God. What does that look like in real life? This grace isn't earned by obedience to the law, personal piety, or virtue. It comes simply through Christ and what He has done. Jesus, God's Messiah, has offered Himself on the cross as humanity's answer—an answer to sin and death, an answer that gives us power to live this life today. The Holy Spirit fills us and empowers us. This message of grace has real, transformative power. It has the power to change your life, my life, every human life. But as powerful and good and gracious as this message is, it meets resistance. Other powers, other messages, seek to steer our lives. Often, we find ourselves colluding with those lesser powers, trying to survive in this broken world. But when we do, we survive as slaves—not as sons and daughters. True freedom comes only when we embrace grace, when we truly step into the life Christ offers. In Him, we're set free. Our eyes are opened—to see Him and to know who we are in Him. We're given power, by His Spirit, to live this life now in Him. But don't be fooled; the world resists grace. Paul and Barnabas remind the believers in Acts 14:22, “We must suffer many hardships to enter the Kingdom of God.” This is a grace-resistant world. But it's only grace—the grace of Christ—that brings true life and transformation. It's only Him. Are you facing resistance? Don't be surprised. Draw courage from the fact that grace has come to you, has found you, has included you. Christ has offered His life for you. So rejoice now! Let this powerful message of Christ's grace meet you, comfort you, and confront every resistant place in your heart, so He can transform you completely, by His love. That's a prayer I have for my own soul. That's a prayer I have for my family, for my wife, my daughters, my son. And that's a prayer I have for you. May it be so. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Lord God Almighty and everlasting father you have brought us in safety to this new day preserve us with your Mighty power that we might not fall into sin or be overcome by adversity. Amen. How could God possibly care about all these people? The thought hit me as I stepped off a busy train platform in a crowded city, thousands of miles from home. I was a teenager traveling abroad for the first time, and I was overwhelmed by the size of the world around me. I felt small by comparison and wondered how God could love so many people. I had yet to understand the broad reach of God’s perfect love. In Scripture, the prophet Jonah couldn’t fathom this either. When Jonah finally obeyed God’s call to preach repentance to the city of Nineveh, the capital of the brutal Assyrian Empire that had oppressed his native Israel, Jonah didn’t want God to forgive them. But the city did repent, and when God didn’t destroy them, Jonah was angry. God provided shelter for Jonah through a fast-growing plant but then took his shade away, which angered him all the more. Jonah complained, but God responded, “You have been concerned about this plant . . . . And should I not have concern for the great city of Nineveh, in which there are more than a hundred and twenty thousand people?” (Jonah 4:10-11). God is so great that He’s able to care deeply for those who are far from Him. His love goes to the lengths of the cross and empty tomb of Jesus to meet our ultimate need. His greatness manifests itself in goodness, and He longs to draw us near.

I walked to the airline kiosk to check in using the confirmation number stored in my cell phone. But my phone was missing! I’d left it behind in the car that had dropped me off. So how could I contact the ride-hailing driver who’d dropped me off? As I scrambled to connect my laptop to the airport’s Wi-Fi, I worried it was too late. Utilizing an app, my husband noticed my phone wasn’t with me at the airport and had already sent me an email—waiting for me as soon as I connected to the Wi-Fi. His email said: “Send me the car service’s number and I’ll take care of it.” My husband had jumped in to take care of things—giving me an immediate sense of peace. This is part of the peace I believe God wants us to enjoy in the relationship we can experience with Him through Christ. First Peter 5:7 reminds us to “cast all [our] anxiety on him because he cares for [us].” This verse says that God wants to take on our worries and concerns. Why? Because He cares that much for us. We can give our cares to God rather than allowing them to swim around in our heads as we try to figure things out. Casting our anxiety on God is a form of humility that acknowledges that He’s much more capable of handling our concerns than we are (v. 6). We are taking a look at one little verse in Exodus 38 today that talks about what some women were willing to give up in order to give to the Lord sacrificially. And as we study these women, I hope we take a look at ourselves and ask, "What would I be willing to give?"Amber wants to hear from you! A lengthy battle with a chronic illness had taken its toll on Jimmy. Though he desired to spend time with God each morning, praying to Him and meditating on the Scriptures, he couldn’t find a way to position his body in his chair that wasn’t painful. He shifted from side to side, but there was no relief. Finally, in desperation he fell to his knees. As he did, that prayerful posture proved to lessen the agonizing ache. In the mornings that followed, Jimmy spent time with God on his knees—experiencing comfort even as he called out to Him in prayer. Jehoshaphat, king of Judah, also faced a battle—not with pain but with threatening enemies (2 Chronicles 20:1-2). The king was “terrified by this news and begged the Lord for guidance” (v. 3 nlt). All the people of Judah sought “help from the Lord” as well (v. 4). God heard their prayers, and His Spirit came upon a Levite named Jahaziel, who delivered this comforting message to the king: “Do not be afraid or discouraged . . . . The Lord will be with you” (vv. 15, 17). Jehoshaphat “bowed down with his face to the ground” and everyone “fell down in worship before the Lord” (v. 18). In painful and challenging times, we can often experience God’s nearness in a powerful way. As He helps us submit to His will and live out a prayerful posture in our hearts, we can find comfort and peace in Him.

Today, we dive into the heart-wrenching story of Job—his lament and the counsel he receives in the midst of suffering—followed by the powerful accounts from Acts where the gospel spreads like wildfire. Witness Saul's dramatic transformation on the road to Damascus, the joy brought to Samaria through Philip's ministry, and miracles of healing and new life as the early church grows. Through heartfelt readings, prayers, and reflections, Hunter reminds us that God's love is being multiplied worldwide, inviting even outsiders, enemies, the hurting, and the hopeful into the fullness of Christ's life. This episode is about awakening to God's transforming grace and learning how we, too, can become vessels of peace and love in our everyday lives. So settle in, open your ears and heart, and let's journey together—discovering comfort, perspective, and encouragement from the living Word of God. TODAY'S DEVOTION: It's happening. Enemies, foreigners, the blind and the deaf are all hearing and receiving the message of Christ's life. His life is being multiplied into the lives of all these people. Jesus—his message is spreading out into all the earth: down to Ethiopia, up to Damascus, onto Tarsus. The Spirit and life of Christ is moving out like never before. John wrote, “I tell you the truth. Unless a kernel of wheat is planted in the soil and dies, it remains alone. But its death will produce many new kernels, a plentiful harvest of new lives.” He was that grain of wheat who fell to the ground on our behalf, out of love for you and me. And because he did this great work, now we have been included in the very life that he shares with his Father and the Spirit. People like us—and people not like us. Enemies, foreigners, the deaf, the blind, and even the dead—are all being included in this life that Christ has come to give. He's making all things new. The world is being transformed by what he has done. And now, one person at a time, people are being awakened. Their eyes are being opened, the scales are coming off—just like Saul. Now they can see who Jesus is, what he has done, and how deeply loved they are. And not just them, but every human being. The power to experience change is being given. The power to be transformed is being offered. Ask God to give you eyes to see, a heart to understand, that you're included too—that you can participate and be fully alive and available to whatever he wants for you, whatever he desires to do through you. Ask him to make you a vessel of this life, so that you bring his peace, his hope, his love into this world, even today. That's a prayer that I have for my own soul. That's a prayer that I have for my family, for my wife, my daughters, and my son. And that's a prayer that I have for you. May it be so. TODAY'S PRAYERS: Lord God Almighty and everlasting father you have brought us in safety to this new day preserve us with your Mighty power that we might not fall into sin or be overcome by adversity. Amen. With extra time on my hands, my plan for the coming months centered on serving people as much as I could. But while helping a new friend, I tripped and fell and broke my arm in three places. Suddenly I was the one in need. God’s people cared for me with visits, gift cards, flowers, phone calls, texts, prayer, meals (and even a box of chocolates), and by running errands. I couldn’t believe how kind my family, friends, and fellow church members were! It was as if God were saying, “Sit down. You need help. You’ll see what caring looks like.” Because of them, I know more about serving from the heart and feeling grateful to God for others. Fellow believers eagerly helped me in the ways Paul instructed the church members at Rome to follow (Romans 12). He encouraged them to love sincerely, to honor others, to be devoted to one another in love, and to share with those in need (vv. 9-13). Paul taught them doctrine throughout his letter. But he also shared that life in Christ isn’t abstract theology (Ch. 1-11)—it’s shown in our practical daily living (Ch. 12-16). God’s way is love. May we pour out His love on others as an expression of His love for us. May we look for ways to serve people in our churches or communities. They’ll be encouraged. We’ll be blessed. And God will be praised.
