Need To Know with Coulthart and Zabel

Ross and Bryce catch up on several developments of the past few weeks, including the latest report from AARO. Ross calls out what he labels "completely disingenuous" statements by the agency's head, Dr. Sean Kirkpatrick, downplaying the UAP reports the agency reviewed in the 2023 US Government fiscal year. Ross calls the report "The Big Yawn." Ross and Bryce disagree on whether private aerospace firms, who've spent millions of their own dollars on crash retrieval, should be forced to turn any physical evidence over to the government. And Bryce reviews the high points of 1948, a banner year that saw dozens of credible UFO/UAP sightings. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

They expected it, and it's here: serious attempts to discredit Defense Department UFO whistleblower David Grusch. Ross summarizes what he calls the "slimeball" attempts to vilify Grusch, including the exploitation of his battle with PTSD. Ross notes that The Pentagon has always known about that, and gave Grusch a very, very high security clearance, anyway. Bryce and Ross also wonder if the momentum in Congress to explore the government's history of UAP research has been lost. They discuss the very intense effort to remove UAP language from the Defense Authorization Act. And Bryce, who's just back from Sweden, recounts one of the earliest documented UAP encounters - just after World War II in Sweden. Learn more about your ad choices. It's been three weeks since David Grusch revealed his identity as the most senior and more credible government official yet to acknowledge the existence of UAP. Now, Bryce and Ross discuss what's next for Grusch and for members of Congress who want to know more. Ross also explains why we won't see every second of the more-than three hour interview he conducted with Grusch for NewsNation. And Bryce adds: there's a second interview - actually the 'pre-interview' - that Need to Know controls. And Ross reveals new information about who's been recovering UAP wreckage over the decades. Ross pounces on the video of a sphere, and Dr. Sean Kirkpatrick's comment that his group "has found no credible evidence thus far of extraterrestrial activity, off-world technology, or objects that defy the known laws of physics.” Bryce is not happy that the one sitting Senator who's been to space, Arizona's Mark Kelly, didn't attend the public hearing but DID show up for the private, classified session. This week, Alan, Quinta and Scott were joined by Allies host and Lawfare associate editor Bryce Klehm! Together they talked through the week's big national security news stories, including: "Remember the ‘90s?” Nine months have passed since the Taliban seized power in Kabul, and its promises of a more moderate rule than the harsh theocracy it oversaw in the 1990s are increasingly ringing hollow. Just this past week, the Taliban issued a new edict directing women and girls to cover everything but their eyes while in public and discouraging them from leaving their homes. Is there any chance of the Taliban changing tack? And how should the United States and others engage with them? “A Shooting in Buffalo.” An 18-year-old shooter who targeted and killed black shoppers at a supermarket this past week appears to have been radicalized online by a version of “replacement theory,” which has been echoed in rhetoric by mainstream right-wing political figures ranging from Tucker Carlson to Elise Stefanik. How should platforms and policymakers combat such radicalization to prevent more violence?“It's Coming from Inside the House.” The Jan. 6 committee took a dramatic step earlier this week when it issued subpoenas to five House Republicans who had refused to voluntarily participate with its investigation, including minority leader Kevin McCarthy. Why did the committee take this step now? And what are the odds it will lead these members to cooperate? For object lessons, Alan endorsed Emily St. John Mandel's newest piece of sci-fi literature, "Sea of Tranquility." Quinta celebrated the miraculous recovery of her house plant. Scott encouraged listeners to check out an overlooked and underappreciated chapter in the Muppets' oeuvre, the 2015 adult sitcom "The Muppets." And Bryce recommended an old television show folks might not have heard of called "The Sopranos" for some insight into mafia-style management. And everyone encouraged listeners to check out the newest podcast series from Lawfare and Goat Rodeo, Allies, which does a deep dive into how the decade-long failure of the Afghan Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) program led the United States to leave so many allies behind following its withdrawal from Afghanistan. This week on the BOX... DJ has had just about enough out of Susan. And Bryce, Stephanie, Brad... and everyone else in offices all around the country that need to justify their existence by f**king with people that do actual work.  He's opposed to the notion that somehow people with ZERO experience and ZERO skin in the game can evaluate the quality of work that really good workers are already doing. And that's not to take away from people that actually make things better.  There's nothing wrong with efficiency or the user experience changing as situations dictate, but if you feel the need to yarf up some sh*t idea that throws a coworker under the bus just so you can say you "participated", don't be expecting a trophy from the BOX anytime soon.  Also, unsurprisingly, DJ is having an issue with hypocrites and the new CDC guidance.  But what else is new? DJ talks to Noodle about post-it notes, and has to explain to the percussionist why using them at the studio won't help him remember things once he leaves there.  Our host talks about covers and how well they seem to be doing in music circles these days.  He posits - along with #teamUppity - that it might be a function of exposing new generations to older music - especially if it's done in a modern way, but that doesn't answer why covers of newer music is doing just as well.  There is more research to be done on this! DJ also talks more about the repercussions of being in facebook jail, and how low his interaction quantity is these days as a result. Marco Polo in Jersey, banking problem in Kansas, why you should never stay in a hotel room after Annie Stoic and MORE!  This ain't your mom's lunchbox.   Sadly, despite paying full royalties on the BOX, the RIAA "antipiracy" department has rules against using copyrighted material without permission on the podcast replay, so you won't hear anything except direct submissions here, but you can still catch all the music from the show when the BOX runs live, Thursdays at noon on 99WNRR.com #onthebox Be social with DJ and Revel 9: https://www.revel9.com Music: Spotify: https://tinyurl.com/y4pjyokr Apple: https://tinyurl.com/yy6od4mz Physical: https://revel9.com/store Social: YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/revel9band FB: https://www.facebook.com/revel9 IG: http://www.instagram.com/revel9band/ TW: https://www.twitter.com/revel9 #youtuber #revel9 #hardrocklunchbox #todaysrant #99wnrr #streamingradio #radiohost #currentevents #culture #lifestyle #musicbusiness #marcopolo #coversongs #millenials #office #efficiencyexperts #howto #susan #bryce
