Today, Les, Jamil, Morgan, and Jess break from the usual policy deep-dives for a special episode: a review of A House of Dynamite, the new 90-minute Netflix thriller that imagines a nuclear missile headed straight for the United States. The film unfolds through three overlapping vantage points—a Navy captain running the White House Situation Room, a deputy national security advisor suddenly thrust into a life-or-death decision cycle, and a Secretary of Defense guiding a president portrayed by Idris Elba. With standout performances from Jared Harris, Rebecca Ferguson, and newcomer Gabriel Basso, the movie blends high-stakes crisis response with surprisingly grounded depictions of how the U.S. government might react in the unthinkable scenario of an inbound nuclear strike. How realistic is Hollywood's take on nuclear command and control? Which perspective offers the most credible view of how the system actually works? And what does the film get right—or wrong—about the speed, uncertainty, and pressure of decision-making when minutes determine national survival?@lestermunson@jamil_n_jaffer@nottvjessjones@morganlroachLike what we're doing here? Josh is joined by The Rewind's Resident Necon Josh Brown and The Rewind's Resident Model UN Nerd Adam Lichtenstein to talk about the latest from Kathryn Bigelow, "A House of Dynamite." They discuss if the film about an impending nuclear attack was hindered by its structure in which it largely depicted the same 20-minute span from 3 different perspectives, how it made them feel in thinking about such an event happening in real life, the performances from a deep cast including Idris Elba, Rebecca Ferguson and Gabriel Basso and much more!
Welcome to another episode of Death Don't Do Fiction, the AIPT Movies podcast! The podcast about the enduring legacy of our favorite movies! It's November, so that means it's time for our “Xenovember” series, where we cover movies from another world! In this week's episode, Alex, Tim, and guest Chrissy Kurpeski discuss Tobe Hooper's trippy 1985 exploration of Britain being invaded by space vampires, Lifeforce!Disturbingly casual nudity! Drained corpses! Exploding dust bodies! Floating blood! A 150-mile-long gothic space umbrella! London in crisis! A surprisingly open-minded British government! Creepy spiral contact lenses! Unexpected narration! Scientific stick poking! A very sweaty cast that includes a fearless Mathilda May, a naturally voyeuristic Peter Firth, and a pre-Star Trek Patrick Stewart! A thrillingly weird movie with incredible practical effects from the legendary John Dykstra, and a script from Alien's Dan O'Bannon, this intensely-British movie is simply too strange to be forgotten! In addition, Chrissy shares her spoiler-free thoughts on Heart Eyes and Weapons, Alex does the same for A House of Dynamite and 1995's Species, and Tim says he enjoyed watching the majority of The Phoenician Scheme! You can find Death Don't Do Fiction on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you get your podcasts. This week on the show Andrew and Ted discuss the Netflix original feature "House of Dynamite", starring Rebecca Ferguson, Gabriel Basso, Idris Elba, and strongly featuring Anthony Ramos, Tracy Letts, and Jared Harris. This Kathryn Bigelow (Hurt Locker, Zero Dark Thirty) directed thriller counts down the departmental actions of the US Government as they have 20 minutes to make decisions before a suspected nuclear warhead, secretly launched from the far western waters of the Pacific Ocean strikes Chicago. Tune into the show to find out what element of this feature blew both Andrew and Ted out of the water and what, if any, misses there were.
On this episode Barry and Mike man the controls in the situation room and give their thoughts on the nuclear bomb that is Kathryn Bigelow's new Netflix movie A House of Dynamite. Topics discuss include Bigelow's up and down filmography, debatable creative choices and casting issues in this movie, and the beautiful, eternal, undying love shared between Rebecca Ferguson and Mike.

On this episode, Matt & Eric review A House of Dynamite starring Idris Elba, Rebecca Ferguson, Gabriel Basso, Jared Harris, and Tracy Letts.
Nach «Detroit» ließ sich Oscar-Preisträgerin Kathryn Bigelow («The Hurt Locker») fast neun Jahre Zeit, ehe ihr neuer Spielfilm «A House of Dynamite» beim Streamingdienst Netflix erschien. Obwohl «A House of Dynamite» keine abschließende Geschichte erzählen kann, finden beide das Werk dennoch gelungen.
In “A House of Dynamite” wird das Undenkbare wahr. Inhaltlich ist “A House of Dynamite” zweifellos sehenswert. Doch nicht alles zündet, was Bigelow anlegt. Get full access to Ronny Rüsch - Filmkritiker at hausmeisterronny.substack.com/subscribe
Sean and Amanda start the show by covering the major box office success of ‘Chainsaw Man,' reacting to the news that Cinemark is opening myriad new 70 mm IMAX screens across the country, and discussing what it represents for the future of moviegoing (2:00). Then, they deep dive into Kathryn Bigelow's new film, ‘A House of Dynamite,' starring Rebecca Ferguson. They unpack their very complicated feelings by highlighting what they found successful, including a titillating first act and some strong performances, and they address its major flaws, most notably a wild third act that features a deeply unsuccessful performance from Idris Elba (12:59). Finally, Adam Nayman joins the show to discuss Kelly Reichardt's new film, ‘The Mastermind,' starring Josh O'Connor as an outcast loner (1:07:46). They talk about Reichardt's ability to identify this type of character and give credit to her and O'Connor for crafting such a wonderful performance.

This week's Empire Podcast sees Chris Hewitt struggle with the enunciation of one word in particular (you'll have to listen to find out which). Incredibly, it's not 'Howl-o-ween', which is just one of the many things discussed by Chris and his three colleagues of such lethal cunning, Helen O'Hara, James Dyer, and Ben Travis. They get their teeth into movies in which a main character is ill, talk about the shock revelation that Adam Driver and Steven Soderbergh had developed a literal Solo movie for Kylo Ren, and review Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere, Nia DaCosta's Hedda, and Kelly Reichardt's The Mastermind. Guest-wise, we have a veritable bounty as Helen has a lovely chat with Nia DaCosta, and Chris talks to Jeremy Strong, star of the Springsteen flick; and has a joyous natter about the end of the world with Rebecca Ferguson and Kathryn Bigelow, star and director respectively of A House Of Dynamite, which is now out on Netflix. No timecodes yet, as the guy who writes this blurb has to leg it to a screening. But they're roughly 23 minutes, one hour and three minutes in, and one hour and 38 minutes in. Enjoy!

From Oscar-winning director Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker, Zero Dark Thirty, Point Break) comes her first feature film in in more than eight years and it might very well be THE scariest film of the year. :o The premise is simple: a lone nuclear missile has been launched from somewhere in the Pacific and is on a trajectory to land somewhere in the continental United States....in twenty minutes. This nuclear thriller takes us through the various corridors of power of the governernment and those in the most responsive positions in the military - we watch as they scramble not only how to figure out how to prevent this weapon from hitting its target, but also how our military should respond if it DOES hit its target, possibly resulting in the instant deaths of millions of civilians. It's a terrifying sceanario and Bigelow has assembled a top-flight cast lead by Idris Elba, Rebecca Ferguson, Tracey Letts, Gabriel Basso, Anthony Ramos, Greta Lee, and Jared Harris. The clock is ticking.....Host: Geoff GershonEdited By Ella GershonProducer: Marlene GershonSend us a textSupport the showhttps://livingforthecinema.com/Facebook:https://www.facebook.com/Living-for-the-Cinema-Podcast-101167838847578Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/livingforthecinema/Letterboxd:https://letterboxd.com/Living4Cinema/

THIS IS A PREVIEW PODCAST. NOT THE FULL REVIEW. Please check out the full podcast review on our Patreon Page by subscribing over at - https://www.patreon.com/NextBestPicture For this week's third podcast review, Josh Parham and Giovanni Lago join me to review and discuss the latest film from Kathryn Bigelow, "A House Of Dynamite," starring Idris Elba, Rebecca Ferguson, Gabriel Basso, Jared Harris, Tracy Letts, Anthony Ramos, Moses Ingram, Jonah Hauer-King, Greta Lee, and Jason Clarke. The plot follows the U.S. government navigating an official response to a single nuclear missile launched by an unidentified enemy. It's presented in a terrifyingly realistic manner that wants to encourage more thoughtful discussion surrounding nuclear weapons, but its three-act "Rashomon" inspired narrative structure and divisive ending have audiences perhaps thinking about other elements than what was intended since its world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival. 'You're a bit sloppy Dave, tighten it up!'Join Dave as he catches up with Idris Elba, Rebecca Ferguson, Jason Clarke and Anthony Ramos to discuss their latest film, "House of Dynamite" that's out on Netflix October 24th.
Kathryn Bigelow - the first woman who won the Best Director OSCAR at the Academy Awards - is back to deliver us her latest tense thriller... but on Netflix. Bigelow's films have had a big impact on me as a film fan since I was an early teen and I've been waiting years for her to finally make a new movie. I - thank god - had the opportunity to see A House of Dynamite in cinemas last week, with it currently running a select cinemas release in the lead-up to it's drop on Netflix on October 24th. This movie's been garnering pretty rave reviews since the it's premiere at the Venice Film Festival... but I'm coming in pretty hot with a slightly controversial opinion on one of Netflix's biggest awards contenders for 2025. This week on The Rotten Horror Picture Show Podcast, Clay and Amanda are tackling a film that might just be the most confusing sequel in horror history: Mike Flanagan's Doctor Sleep (2019). Now, don't get me wrong — it's a solid, spooky ride with Ewan McGregor as an older Danny Torrance, still haunted by the Overlook and trying to cope with his powers. But here's the thing: is this a sequel to *The Shining* the book? Or *The Shining* the movie? Or some strange in-between hybrid stitched together with ghostly typewriters and whiskey breath? Because I swear, every time I try to explain it to someone, I feel like I need a chalkboard, some red string, and a shot of bourbon. On the one hand, Doctor Sleep is based on Stephen King's novel of the same name, which itself was written as a direct sequel to his original Shining book. That means we're supposed to be following King's continuity — the one where the Overlook Hotel burned to the ground at the end. But on the other hand, Flanagan clearly loves Kubrick's *film*, and he goes out of his way to make *Doctor Sleep* visually and tonally connect to that version. Which means the Overlook is still standing, the carpet patterns are back, and suddenly it feels like we're living in a cinematic multiverse before Marvel made it cool.Clay and Amanda dive into all this messy, fascinating crossover territory — breaking down how Flanagan managed to honor both King and Kubrick, while still creating something that stands on its own. They'll also talk about Rebecca Ferguson's terrifyingly charismatic performance as Rose the Hat, creepy steam-slurping cults, and what happens when childhood trauma grows up with you.Me? I'm still stuck asking: so wait… which Shining is this shining shining from? And don't forget to head over to patreon.com/thepenskyfile to follow Clay and Amanda down the muddy path of remakes and reboots too!
