Hallo Freunde heute gibt es eine neue Episode meiner Indie Dance The Mix Series.... Diesmal mit den Jungs von Beyond The Struttosphere aus London. Viel Spaß Kurt Kjergaard Hello friends Today there is a new episode of my Indie Dance The Mix Series.... This time with the guys from Beyond The Struttosphere from London. Enjoy It Kurt Kjergaard BIO Beyond The Struttopshere is a sonic collaboration between two London-based DJs channelling their considerable musical production experience and boundless love of cosmic chugging dark disco. Their trademark sound combines fat chugging basslines with reverbed guitar riffs, cosmic synths, syncopated arpeggiators, retro-future vocal samples, Italo drum fills and psychedelic 303 sequences. Their debut EP ‘New Frontier' was released on Gouranga Music in 2020 and found much acclaim among Andrew Weatherall and Sean Johnston's A Love From Outer Space online fraternity, also appearing on Juan Mclean's (DFA Records) contribution to Tim Sweeney's Beats In Space mix series. This propelled the duo to newfound heights, leading to highly lauded releases on esteemed labels such as Mélopée Records, Astrolead Recordings, Discolypso, In Dark We Trust, Emerald & Doreen and X-PRESSINGS. Beyond The Struttosphere's music is now making sonic reverberations around the globe, hitting the dancefloors of Burning Man, House of Yes NYC, ADE and Sisyphos Berlin, and notching up remixes from legends of the scene including Rebolledo, Rigopolar, Vongold, James Rod, Ivan Fabra, K-Effect, Roliva and Mufti. The cosmonauts are currently deep in the studio, working on new material, with live guitar now a mainstay of their productions. Catch them DJ'ing this summer on the UK festival circuit and strap yourselves in for an interstellar journey Beyond The Struttosphere! Chris Carberry is the author of 2 books, one of which will be released as a film this summer. He has interviewed many astronauts and is a long time part of the space community. He is the director of Explore Mars, a tax exempt organization. In addition to discussing space policy and current issues, we also focus on the spices of life. What's the history of booze in space? Yes, alcohol has been imbibed in space. Private businesses and related industries are exploring research in space surrounding agricultural aspects to designer fermentations. But a nice drink is often accompanied by music. So, we discuss music in space. Not just space crafts, but on the Moon, on Mars, and the effects of atmospheres and gravity on instruments. We also get into food. Yes, lab made, This is truly a stellar discussion including could David Bowie have sued for Copyright Infringement if said Infringement took place beyond Earth's atmosphere.
It was an honour to have Apple Music's Tim Sweeney (Beats In Space) on the podcast this week. My name is Derrick Gee - radio host, DJ and creator who likes to talk about music, hifi and ideas. Thanks for reading this - you really didn't have to. Much love!
First out of two of Ly Sander's 'Landing' album samplers released on Special place, the package presents two tracks both serviced with a dedicated remix that offer a deep yet often unheard insight into what dance music can mean. Preoccupation about the impact of mankind on the planet is nothing new, as the radio excerpt at the basis of 'Marching to where' clearly exposes. Nevertheless, climate change or the war in Ukraine remind us cruelly how access to food at a reasonable price is currently at stake for parts of the world's population albeit our heavy colonization of the earth. Perspectives are rather gloomy and this track exposes just that, with a historical perspective. Jacques Bon was kind enough to take on remixing duties. He has released music on an array of high-rated record labels including Tim Sweeney's seminal imprint, Beats In Space, Mule Musiq, Giegling, Kann, Live At Robert Johnson and Smallville Records. Not just a solo flier, Jacques also co-produced choice deep-diving joints with the likes of Christopher Rau and Chicago House pioneers, Virgo Four. And if it's difficult to leave aside the seriousness of the topic of this track Jacques brought some hope and sweetness to his mix as well as his dreamy atmosphere. And with the increased bpm it's even dancefloor friendly, hurra! https://soundcloud.com/jacquesbon https://soundcloud.com/special-place-rec https://www.instagram.com/jacquesbon_/ https://www.instagram.com/thelysander/ www.itsdelayed.com www.instagram.com/_____delayed/ www.facebook.com/itsdelayed
We haven't done a solo pod since the 'Thoughts On Releasing Music' two-parter which covered episodes 58 and 59. Those two were really popular, surprisingly so... to me at least. I enjoy doing these because it forces me to get my thoughts together in a way that I sometimes struggle to usually. And the topics we're covering today definitely require some clear thought. Obviously the episode title is a bit provocative. It could totally be happening though. Generative AI and LLMs are things we're going to be discussing a lot in the coming weeks and I thought it would be useful to get my fairly-uneducated intuitions on the subject down on record. Clearly I'm hoping to learn a lot more about this area from having long conversations on the show people who actually know what they're talking about - that usually helps. And then we get into something that I did a really bad job of addressing on my recent appearance on Beats In Space. The decline in the cultural importance of music, that is. I'm not sure if I do much of a better job here, and I think writing an article or something is going to be the best way of really describing it. But I have a go. Anyway, this is a different sort of solo pod to the last ones but I hope it'll be as enjoyable. Or at least provoke a few thoughts anyway. If you're into what we're doing here on the pod then you can support the show on Patreon! There are two tiers - "Solidarity" for $4 a month, which features regular bonus podcasts and extra content. And "Musicality" which for a mere $10 a month gets you all the music we release on Hotflush and affiliate labels AND other music too, some of which never comes out anywhere else. Plus there's also a private area for Patreon supporters in the Hotflush Discord Server... but anyone can join the conversation there in the public channels, so please do! Based in Frankfurt Shan might have already been a familiar face amidst the locals, however, his international presence is most certainly on the rise. The producer is perhaps best known for his interaction with Gerd Janson's Running Back imprint on which he has released a string of EP's and collaborated. He has worked closely with Tuff City Kids and has further released on the likes of Beats In Space, Edhid and The Healing Company. His dynamic take on house music is progressive yet draws upon formative roots within the genre, a fiercely talented disc jockey he is very much in demand. We are delighted to have him contribute to our mix series.
