Benny Salvador is at the forefront of a new dance movement in Aotearoa. The Te Whanganui-a-Tara based artist has a reputation for refined and exploratory dancefloor odysseys, driven by his innate curiosity and a childhood surrounded by music. He also an irrepressible force in the studio, with a wicked run of EPs out on his own imprint Aunty Records, features on compilations by Antal and Juke Bounce Werk, and a grab-bag of unreleased cuts and edits ready to be unleashed at every show. He takes over Friendly Potential Radio in anticipation of his appearance at Beacon Festival in Tāmaki Makaurau next weekend. The release is a mini-masterpiece, drawn from a chaotic swarm of 1000 demos that evolved out of his time with longtime collaborator SILICON. Keepsakes's hard-edged and spirited music has been released on a hit-list of labels, including South London Analogue Material, Perc Trax, Mord Records, and Mindcut Music. He also runs HAVEN INTL, a club series and vinyl-focused record label that has released work from artists including VTSS, Tommy Holohan, Peder Mannerfelt, Ayarcana, Ansome, and Ryan James Ford. He recently released his second album "Spaces of Silence" for Pont Neuf Records, which follows up releases for Shall Not Fade and Folamour's FHUO Records. @tour-maubourg @pontneuf From Pierre: Tell us about the album: The record was produced in my grandparents' place in Brussels, my hometown. It is a particularly personal record, filled with childhood emotions and a desire to escape from my permanent tinnitus through music. Tatyana Jane is an emerging star in the Paris underground. Her dynamic and borderless approach to sound has been well captured via mixes for NTS and Rinse France, and releases for *** and Mamie's Records. Mānuka Recordings is a boutique record label from Tāmaki Makaurau, led by local lynchpins Dylan Biscuit and Kenny Sterling. As a collective, they focus on supporting and collaborating with musicians in their immediate community, pushing artists' boundaries, and searching for the magic within spontaneity and imperfection. The labels have been going since 2004, and have featured stellar contemporary releases, deep dives into undersung labels and producers, and holy grail reissues. Anuraag is a second generation settler based on Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Country. Their practice as a DJ is layered and improvisational, favouring hi-def, glossy textures, organic percussion and fluid polyrhythms, drawing connections between traditional and hypermodern instrumentation. It is an inimitable style that has led them to play for global institutions including RA, Bossa Nova, NTS, and Boiler Room, and support legendary artists including Helena Hauff, DJ Sprinkles, and u-Ziq. ""This mix is a live recording from a show at Sideway, a gorgeous little club situated on Ngunnawal/Ngambri Country. I played the middle slot between two DJs with a very different style to me, and each other. I wanted to bridge the gap between the two by matching the energy of the opening DJ then trying to disorient the crowd through a lot of tempo and groove switchups, so that when the closer began the 120ish stuff they planned to play would feel like a relief and draw the crowd together. I had a pretty challenging time playing - I've been very used to local crowds that I know and trust to stick with me through my constant shifts in direction. I had a bonkers week in the lead-up and only had about 30 minutes to prep in the club.
