TW: COVID, Death, Suicide As we acknowledge the two-year anniversary of the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, we welcome the incredible Christian Franz, who worked in an ICU in NYC, to discuss his experience on the frontlines. Christian talks about how he made it through each day alongside media and online misinformation, and the trauma and heartbreak he experienced as, at one point, he was saying goodbye to around 7-10 patients a night. He talks about how pre-existing flaws in the healthcare system became so much more apparent during this time, why he made the decision to start studying medicine, and how he wants to dedicate his life to fixing the system and uniting nurses and doctors. On top of all of that, he has an IG live series and podcast called Friends of Franz which aims to humanize healthcare workers and broaden access to medical information. This is an incredibly emotional episode highlighting the unresolved mental health consequences of this pandemic for our frontline workers. It is essential to validate the experience of healthcare workers, and we hope this episode can be cathartic, as we honor Christian's experience. To get more from Christian, follow him on Instagram @chrsfranz and his podcast on Instagram @friendsoffranzpod and wherever you listen. She explains that financial fluctuation is more volatile now because of coined, but crisis rates existed before and will exist after the pandemic. Sarah offers advice to nursing students who want to become a travel nurse, and to nurses thinking of making the jump. Plus, she debunks common travel nurse myths. Our next guest needs no introduction; but if you're not up to date on your social media stars, Nurse Clara has paved the way for nurse influencers and medical content creators in the space. Today, she chats with D and Jackie about navigating a presence on social media as a healthcare worker. They talk about nurses getting hate for making content at work, and discuss the benefit of using their credentials to empower and educate whatever community they have, big or small. With healthcare workers expressing themselves more to their patients and followers, it allows them to be seen as regular people too, who you can hopefully trust even more. Clara discusses how she went from just posting on social media to having a full-on business, the pressure to post about certain things, and performative activism. She offers advice for people starting out, talks about her new shoes dropping with Clove, and absolutely glows when speaking about her mentorship and passion for the ACU. To keep up with Clara, follower her @nurseclara and find her new shoes @goclove. Plus, be sure to check out @theasiancareunit Thanks to our amazing sponsors! In case you weren't aware, there is a zero-tolerance policy for drama in the WoMed community. Today we're talking about peer incivility and lateral violence, aka, workplace bullying. Unfortunately, this is something so many nurses have to go through, and tensions are even higher as a result of the pandemic. Danielle and Jackie both open up about hurtful situations they've been through, and Jackie shares some research she's discovered in trying to figure out why this drama is so prevalent in the nursing community. They discuss the mental health effects this stress can have on people, what nurses can do to try and make these situations better, and how to approach conversations with your bully directly. They also break down options available to you if you're facing bullying and want to take action! Thanks to our amazing sponsors! In 1977, a man named Robert Burns went to a funeral and shot someone, in the head, in front of 300 people. He didn’t deny it, and his lawyer didn’t deny it.
