The episode launches the Pride in Bruce series for Pride Month, celebrating LGBTQ+ stories and the ways Bruce Springsteen's music can be a lifeline. Host Jesse Jackson interviews Jason Bisogni, a Westchester, New York marketing professional and lifelong music fan, about his path into classic rock, his early concert experiences, and the moment he became a dedicated Springsteen fan after seeing the 1999 E Street Band reunion tour. Jason shares that he came out later in life (to two people at 39, more fully at 41 in 2021) and explains how Bruce's lyrics took on new meaning afterward, citing songs like “Darkness on the Edge of Town,” “Trapped,” “Living Proof,” and “Two Hearts.” He credits Bob Dylan's “It's All Over Now, Baby Blue” line “He not busy being born is busy dying” as pivotal, discusses chasing songs live, recounts meeting Bruce several times, and answers the “Thunder Road” question by saying Mary does not get in the car. 00:00 Pride in Bruce Intro 01:48 Meet Jesse and Jason 02:21 Jason's Music Roots 03:18 Family Soundtrack Growing Up 06:43 Wrestling Detour and WWE 11:45 Concerts That Sparked It 14:59 Finding Bruce Springsteen 17:29 First E Street Show Magic 19:34 Counting Shows and Fandom 20:48 Static Setlist Debate 24:25 Health, Travel, and Missing Shows 26:27 Bruce and Coming Out Journey 27:01 Coming Out With The Boss 29:32 Lyrics Hit Different Now 32:07 Gay Icon Podcast Picks 34:23 Forever Favorites Playlist 38:18 Born Or Busy Dying 41:04 Songs Still Chasing Live 43:24 Meeting Bruce Stories 48:25 Thunder Road Mary Debate 50:39 Gratitude Pride Month Wrap Learn more about your ad choices. What does it look like when God completely changes a life? In this powerful testimony and message, Brother Danny Buchanan, Jr. shares how the transforming power of Jesus Christ took him from years of addiction, brokenness, and hopelessness to a life filled with purpose, peace, and a desire to serve God. His story stands as a living witness that no one is beyond the reach of God’s grace. Drawing from personal experience, Brother Danny recounts a past marked by drug addiction, multiple overdoses, and a life that seemed headed nowhere. Yet through the mercy of God, everything changed. The cravings that once controlled him have been replaced with a desire to walk with God, study His Word, and share the gospel with others. Today, he testifies that the same God who delivered him can deliver anyone who calls upon Him. Using the illustration of neglected flowers that were restored through the care of a gardener, the message highlights how God takes lives that seem broken, unwanted, and without value and transforms them into something beautiful for His glory. The changes God makes are so real that family, friends, and coworkers cannot help but notice the difference. At the heart of the sermon is the life-changing power of the Word of God. Through passages such as Psalm 119, John 1, 2 Timothy 2:15, Jeremiah 23:29, and Hebrews 4:12, listeners are reminded that God’s Word is alive, powerful, and able to reach places no human effort can touch. It cleanses, guides, convicts, strengthens, comforts, and reveals the condition of the heart. Brother Danny emphasizes the importance of studying Scripture, praying for understanding, and applying God’s truth to daily life. The Bible is more than a book. It is God’s instruction manual for living, a source of hope during trials, and a light that directs believers through life’s darkest moments. Through its pages we find God’s promises, His forgiveness, His guidance, and the assurance that He will never leave nor forsake His people. The message also challenges believers to live out their faith before others. It is not enough to talk about the gospel. Christians are called to live in a way that reflects the change Christ has made within them. The world is watching, and a transformed life can be one of the greatest testimonies of God’s power. Throughout the sermon, Brother Danny openly acknowledges ongoing battles and temptations, while emphasizing God’s faithfulness to provide strength, forgiveness, and a way of escape. His testimony serves as a reminder that spiritual growth is a daily walk of dependence upon God. “Living Proof” is an encouraging message for anyone struggling with addiction, temptation, discouragement, or doubt. It points listeners to the hope found in Jesus Christ and the power of God’s Word to change hearts and lives. If God can transform one life so completely, He can do the same for you. No matter where you’ve been or what you’ve done, God’s arm is not too short to save, His ear is not too heavy to hear, and His grace is still sufficient today.

What if sharing your faith wasn't meant to feel forced? On Pentecost Sunday, we're reminded that the Holy Spirit empowers ordinary believers to live as witnesses for Jesus—not just through sermons, but through everyday life. This message explores: • What evangelism really means • Why Christians are called “living proof” • How Jesus engaged people relationally • The role of prayer and the Holy Spirit • Why your personal story matters • How to share the gospel naturally through everyday relationships The gospel spread through ordinary believers in the early church, and God still works through ordinary people today. You don't need all the answers. You simply need a life shaped by Jesus.

Learn how to JournalSpeak ➡️  https://tinyurl.com/2ph33u2s In this episode, I'm joined by the wonderful Claire Birnie, whose story is such a powerful reminder that healing does not always arrive in one clean, linear, cinematic moment. Claire lived with chronic pelvic and vaginal pain for more than two decades. After years of medical searching, diagnoses that named the pain but did not resolve it, countless treatments, medications, physical therapies, and the deep loneliness that can come with symptoms people are afraid to talk about, Claire eventually found the work of Dr. Sarno, JournalSpeak, and our mindbody approach. What I love so much about this conversation is Claire's honesty about the long way around. She talks about researching, resisting, comparing herself to other recovery stories, wondering if she was doing it wrong, and slowly learning that every part of her process belonged. We talk about good-girl conditioning, conflict avoidance, the fear of being seen, the shame of not knowing how to feel, and the way the nervous system can create symptoms in the very places we most want to hide. Claire's recovery was not about doing this perfectly. It was about becoming safe enough to be herself, to speak up, to take risks, to have her own back, and to stop abandoning herself in the name of being acceptable. Claire has spent years helping hold this work for others — first as an admin of the original JournalSpeak Facebook page, and now as an admin of Nicole Sachs' Support Circle, where she continues to offer steadiness, wisdom, and lived proof to people who are still finding their way. Her story is also in MIND YOUR BODY! Claire is now the Co-Director of Living Proof, a UK-based, recoveree-led nonprofit devoted to sharing the science and possibility of recovery from chronic pain and other neuroplastic symptoms. Living Proof was founded in 2022 and offers recovery stories, films, blogs, resources, professional education, and a growing community for people who need to know they are not alone. Claire's own story is featured there as part of her mission to bring this message especially to people in the UK, where many still feel that mindbody and neuroplastic recovery work is happening “somewhere else.” Through Living Proof, she is helping amplify voices, provide credible resources, and offer exactly what she once needed most: hope, connection, and the living evidence that recovery is possible. Is doubt the opposite of faith? In this week's episode of Your Week with St. Luke's, we continue our Eastertide journey through “Love University” in the Commons, exploring what it means to live as a resurrection community through the story of Thomas in John 20:24–29. In a thoughtful and engaging conversation, Pastors Corey, Jad, and Melissa reflect on Thomas's so-called “doubt,” reframing it not as a failure of faith but as an honest, even necessary, part of it—one that invites curiosity, naming our questions, and deeper encounter with Christ. Together, they consider how Jesus meets Thomas exactly where he is, how faith can look different across a community, and how doubt, when explored rather than dismissed, can lead to a more personal and resilient faith. This episode invites listeners to see their own questions not as barriers, but as openings to grow in faith alongside others.  Go deeper on our free app: www.Livetherhythm.app   Find community with a new group: www.st.lukes.org/lifetogether

EP 142: Living Proof: How A Transplant at 7 months Sparked a Life of Impact     Episode Summary Haley Williamson's life began with a fight—and it turned into a mission. In this episode of This Thing Called Life, Haley shares her experience of receiving a liver transplant as an infant and how that second chance shaped her path. Now at 27 years old and working with Network for Hope, she connects with communities, spreading awareness and encouraging others through her story. This is a conversation about resilience, purpose, and making every day count. Episode Highlights Host Andi Johnson welcomes Haley Williamson, a liver transplant recipient whose journey began at just seven months old. Haley shares that she was diagnosed with biliary atresia shortly after birth, leading her family to quickly explore transplant options, including the possibility of her mother becoming a living donor. Although her mother was approved to donate, Haley ultimately received a liver from a deceased donor. She reflects on growing up post-transplant and how, despite taking daily medication, she has been able to live a largely healthy and active life. Andi and Haley discuss a common misconception—that transplant recipients immediately return to “normal”—while acknowledging that every journey is different and often includes ongoing challenges. Haley shares how her early medical experiences influenced her career path, leading her to roles in healthcare and eventually to Network for Hope, where she now works in community outreach and education. She opens up about the emotional challenges of body image, particularly growing up with a visible surgical scar, and how her mother supported her in building confidence and self-acceptance. Haley reflects on the maturity she developed over time, including navigating social situations—such as college environments—while making choices aligned with her health. She expresses deep gratitude for both her mother's willingness to donate and the selfless gift from her donor's family, recognizing the duality of loss and life in transplantation. During an internship, Haley had the opportunity to mentor patients awaiting transplants, offering encouragement and perspective from someone who has lived through the experience. Andi highlights Haley's gift for breaking down complex topics around organ donation, making them more approachable for individuals who may feel hesitant or unsure. Haley shares how education helps dispel fear, noting that many people become more open to donation once they truly understand the process. Beyond her advocacy work, Haley shares glimpses of her personal life—including her love for concerts (especially One Direction and Taylor Swift) and her recent interest in tennis and pickleball. The episode closes with Andi recognizing Haley as living proof of the impact of organ donation and celebrating her role in spreading hope and awareness. Key Takeaways A Second Chance Can Become a Life of Purpose Haley's journey shows that transplantation is not just about survival—it can inspire a life dedicated to helping and uplifting others. Education Reduces Fear and Builds Trust Many misconceptions about organ donation come from a lack of understanding. Honest conversations and real stories can change perspectives and encourage action. Resilience Is Built Over Time—With Support From navigating body image to making health-conscious decisions, Haley's story highlights the importance of family support, self-acceptance, and personal growth. Tweetable Quotes “I think it is really a testament to how much medicine has improved since then, because now we have a ton of transplant centers near us, so that's great.” Haley Williamson “I've been very fortunate. I've lived a very normal life. I honestly don't think about it most of the time, unless it comes up, and then I'm able to share my story with people. But I know that's not the norm for everyone, so I hope, if nothing else, I can be a voice of hope for people who are awaiting a transplant, or their child's going through something, that there is good on the horizon, and you can live a normal life after a transplant.” Haley Williamson “So, Child Life is a program that they have in hospitals for kids. Okay, it's to help improve morale, but also to help things not seem so scary. And other examples are like putting a baby doll through an MRI, so kids know what to expect. They see that their dolls are going through it, so it's not that scary. And so I'm like, I really like this. I enjoy being in this environment.” Haley Williamson “I love getting to really break down organ donation to people. I've experienced a lot of hesitancy from people just in my day-to-day life. And so it can be scary going in to talk to people and thinking they're automatically going to say, No, I'm not interested, right? But as soon as you explain things to people, they're like, Oh, this is like, I had no idea. This is what was really going on.” Haley Williamson “My scar did not say the same size it was when I was a baby. It has stretched with me. It goes all the way across my stomach, and it's been like, that'd be hard. Yes, it's been like that my whole life. So, especially like in elementary school, for sure, other kids don't understand, right?” Haley Williamson Resources: Donatelifeky.org https://getoffthelist.org/ https://www.networkforhope.org/ https://www.networkforhope.org/about-us/ https://www.networkforhope.org/stories-of-hope/ https://www.facebook.com/NetworkForHopeOPO https://www.youtube.com/@NetworkforHope. https://aopo.org/ RegisterMe.org/NetworkforHope

The book of James concludes by showing that the ultimate evidence of faith is a transformed community that operates differently from the world. A changed community has three key characteristics: they lean on one another through prayer during troubles, happiness, and sickness; they practice authenticity through confession and mutual prayer; and they rescue those who drift away from truth rather than ignoring them. This kind of community requires commitment to regular attendance, connecting in small groups, getting involved in service, and praying for others. The living proof of faith isn't just individual transformation but a community that genuinely cares for one another.

Most people reading this are wealthy by global standards, even if they don't feel rich. James 5:1-6 warns against five dangerous patterns with money: storing what we don't use, saving what we don't need, hoarding what invites judgment, exploiting those we don't value, and consuming what we won't share. The passage reminds us that we're living in the last days between Christ's first and second coming, making excessive hoarding particularly foolish. Instead of finding security in possessions, we should establish a line of enough and invest our excess in God's kingdom, which offers eternal returns rather than temporary satisfaction.

What does it look like to keep standing firm in faith when you're in the middle of disappointment and pain? In this powerful episode, Caroline sits down with Myshel Wilkins to talk about the kind of faith that refuses to retreat, even in the middle of grief. Myshel shares her journey through eight miscarriages, the battle to guard God's character in suffering, and how a deep reverence for God shaped the way she responded to loss. Life is fragile and fleeting, like a mist that appears for a moment and then vanishes. Every breath we take is a gift from God, and recognizing this truth should transform how we live. Instead of pursuing meaningless activities, we should focus on what has eternal significance. Living with the mindset of 'if the Lord wills' means aligning our plans with God's purposes rather than asking Him to bless our own ambitions. We must avoid the sin of omission - failing to do the good we know we should do. Your life has incredible potential to make an eternal impact, but this requires living with urgency and focusing on what truly matters for eternity.

James addresses the disconnect between faith and life, comparing it to a movie where audio doesn't sync with the actors' mouths. He identifies the source of conflicts among believers as internal selfish desires rather than external circumstances. Many approach God like a vending machine, praying with wrong motives instead of seeking relationship. Despite our spiritual unfaithfulness, God gives abundant grace that's greater than all our failures. James provides a five-step peace plan: submit to God, resist the devil, draw near to God, grieve over sin, and humble yourself before Him. True transformation happens from the inside out as God changes our hearts, not just our behavior.

TWO TYPES OF WISDOM: Joel Dombrow | Series: LIVING PROOF

Life presents us with two distinct types of wisdom: earthly and heavenly. Earthly wisdom is driven by selfish ambition and bitter envy, leading to chaos and destruction in our relationships and circumstances. In contrast, heavenly wisdom is pure, peace-loving, considerate, and full of mercy, creating a beautiful life that attracts others to God. These two approaches cannot be mixed - we must choose which source will guide our decisions. True wisdom shows itself through a beautiful life characterized by humility and good deeds, not just knowledge or information. The wisest decision we can make is to consistently choose God's way over the world's way in every area of our lives.

James 3 reveals the incredible power of our words and the responsibility that comes with speaking. Just as a small bit controls a massive horse and a tiny rudder steers enormous ships, our tongue—though small—directs the entire course of our lives. Words can destroy relationships like a spark ignites a forest fire, yet they can also be a fountain of life that builds others up. While humans can tame wild animals, we cannot tame our tongues without God's help. Our speech should be characterized by four life-giving qualities: Loving, Intentional, Factual, and Edifying. The choice is ours—will our words bring life or destruction?

DEAD FAITH VS. LIVING FAITH: Joel Dombrow | Series: LIVING PROOF

Authentic faith goes far beyond intellectual agreement with biblical truths - it produces genuine transformation in how we live. James addresses the critical distinction between dead faith and living faith, emphasizing that true faith naturally results in good works. This isn't about earning salvation through actions, but rather understanding that works are the inevitable fruit of genuine faith. As John Calvin noted, faith alone justifies, but the faith that justifies is never alone. James illustrates this principle through practical examples, showing how empty words without corresponding actions accomplish nothing. Just as telling a hungry, naked person to be warm and fed without providing help is meaningless, faith that produces no life change is equally useless. Even demons possess correct theology and believe in God, yet they remain in rebellion because their belief doesn't transform their hearts. The examples of Abraham and Rahab demonstrate how living faith manifests differently across various backgrounds. Abraham, the faithful patriarch, showed living faith by his willingness to sacrifice Isaac. Rahab, despite being a Gentile prostitute, demonstrated the same living faith by protecting the Israelite spies. Both were considered righteous not merely for their beliefs, but for how their faith produced action. This teaching doesn't contradict salvation by grace - rather, it explains how genuine salvation naturally produces visible fruit in a believer's life.

As we move toward Easter, we'll explore this idea together: that faith grows not just from sermons, but from encounters with goodness that open our eyes and lead us to see differently.
