Gia Gunn, famed, outspoken Drag Race contestant steps Behind The Rope. Checking in from her home in WeHo, Gia is here to tell it all. We would expect nothing less from one of Drag Race's most outspoken contestants in the history of the show! Let us start at the beginning. Gia takes us back to the first time she did drag, what that was like, what prompted her to “try” and where her infamous name “Gia Gunn” comes from. Think Project Runway! Gia also opens up about the first time she became aware of her “trans identity” and what that was like to deal with at a young age. Flash forward to Season Six of RuPaul's Drag Race, Gia explains how she got involved with the Iconic hit TV show and why Season Six was the right time to participate. Gia discusses what it was like to film the show, the other Queens, the competitions and what it was like to “not be out” at the time. Flash forward to “All Stars Season Four”, Gia was back and ready to take the competition by storm. We discuss the differences this time in “All Stars”, the competition as well as the fact that Gia was an out Transgender Woman, or we should say Woman, participating in Drag Race. Of course, we address the fact that Gia's participation in this installment of “All Stars“ came mere months after RuPaul's comment that they would not cast an openly Transgender Contestant on the show. Gia explains how she felt by that statement and whether she thinks that impacted the decision to cast her (whether or not it was “stunt casting”). She also opens up about the rumored filmed but, ultimately, edited altercation with RuPaul on set during “All Stars” over this statement and whether her standing up to RuPaul led, in any way, to her elimination. She also opens up about the fact that the altercation was edited and whether the show is forever slanted to “make Ru look good at all costs”. Gia also chats about the recent change of RuPaul's famous opening catch phrase to be gender inclusive and the presence of contestant Gottmik, Drag race's first Trans Male Drag Queen. Gia chats about the whether RuPaul and Drag Race have come far in their Diversity and Inclusion Efforts, shares her thoughts on Caitlyn Jenner - they are not what you would think, and discusses shows like Pose answering the main question as to whether each has been a step forward for the Trans Community. Finally, Gia discusses current projects, the “Gia” brand, and the fact that it is beyond time for The Real Housewives to include a full time Trans Housewife. Yes, Gia is nominating herself. In true Gia Gunn fashion, NOTHING is off limits nor held back. @gia_gunn @behindvelvetrope @davidyontef Bonus Episodes Available at - https://www.patreon.com/behindthevelvetrope Brought to you by O.R.G SKINCARE - https://www.orgskincare.com (Use Code VELVET for 15% Off Entire Purchase) Brought to you by ROTHY'S - https://www.rothys.com/velvet (Now For Men Too) Brought to you by NOOM - http://www.noom.com/VELVET (Sign Up for Your Trial Today) Merch Available at - https://www.teepublic.com/stores/behind-the-velvet-rope?ref_id=13198 Learn more about your ad choices. This week's episode kicks off the change of season as the summer months wind down and a change is afoot with the We Know WeHo Co-Host spot. Former guest and owner of V Wine Room, Mikey Consbruck, steps into the Co-Host seat and brings his love of food, wine and West Hollywood to the mic. This Nebraska native first appeared in the year end episode wrap with a list of recommended bubbles to ring in the New Year. He subsequently made an appearance on the Valentine's Day episode and more recently in August with a list of his summer sipping picks. Tracy can't resist and asks Mikey for some wine pairings to compliment a favorite local BBQ spot, Bludso's, in celebration of Labor Day weekend. BBQ is always a good meal choice, regardless of season, so check out the picks for Texas BBQ, Mac & Cheese, and Key Lime Pie from Bludso's. Mikey gives a run down of new openings happening in his part of West Hollywood and Tracy shares a few finds in a new neighborhood that has popped up along two blocks of Sycamore just on the WeHo border. Artist K Ryan Henisey's work has shown throughout California and debuts internationally in China, 2020. Ryan won an Award of excellence in fine art at the 2015 California State Fair. He currently serves as president of TAG Gallery, an artist cooperative in Los Angeles. As a California-based artist, K Ryan Henisey's work is heavily influenced by the people, culture, and landscape of the Golden State. His personal narrative is often interwoven with mythological subjects, using patterning as a vehicle to make meaning from deconstruction. Their Holiness, Jesus 3.0 is a performance art resurrection from West Hollywood artist, K Ryan Henisey, inspired by the original presence of neighborhood performer Kevin Lee Light (details below). Jesus 3.0 is a secular, pop art reading of the Christ symbol, focusing on messages of contemporary advocacy through fun, kindness, and community. Inspired by the local, West Hollywood community, Jesus 3.0 shares Seven Pillars of Community during his neighborhood wanderings. These pillars mirror the Core Values of the City of West Hollywood. Jesus 3.0 is a semi-collaborative art project, working closely with LGBTQIA+ and WeHo resident costumers, photographers, and artisans. The views expressed by Jesus 3.0 are not reflective of the views of the City of West Hollywood, any of the participating collaborative artists, or other organizations used in advocacy messaging. We did what most people do once they've been vaccinated near the end of a pandemic: drive an hour out of town to watch the PPV at a plush Cinemark and do a podcast on the way back! This episode was recorded on the drive from Long Beach to Hollywood (then a stop-off at Fatburger, and another loop through WeHo and back up Sunset and Hollywood Blvd. because there was JUST TOO MUCH WRASSLIN to cover!) If you like crystal clear audio, then definitely skip this one. But it does improve significantly about a third of the way through the episode, so ... y'know, whatever works for you. It was almost all thumbs up across the board - Must See! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/aedoubleback/message

Gaby starts the episode by bringing up some nuance they'd previously ignored regarding mental illness and the pandemic, especially when it comes to high school and college students. Allison and Gaby then answer a listener's question about obsessing over a timeline of achievement and feeling like a late bloomer compared to others. And finally: re-entering society and all the anxiety, stress, and excitement that comes with it. (Allison worries about her contamination OCD raging out of control. While Gaby wants to dance to Gaga in WeHo and maybe spit in people's mouths, much to Melisa's horror.)This has been a Forever Dog production Produced by Melisa D. This week's episode is all about Women's History Month and is an ode to the women, past and present, who have made an impact on West Hollywood. This is a We Know WeHO SOLO episode if it were, with no special guest this week - but Maxine turns the tables on Tracy and swaps seats to interview the creator of the We Know WeHo podcast. Although West Hollywood is most famous for being the center of “Boys Town” and freedom of expression in the Rainbow District, women have played an integral part in the fabric of the Creative City's history. Tracy and Maxine are very proud of this as they recount the story of Marilyn Monroe and Ella Fitzgerald at the Mocambo Room on The Sunset Strip in 1955 and Alla Nazimova's infamous Garden of Allah Hotel where the Hollywood elite stayed and played that opened in January of 1927. One cannot recount the history of WeHo without mentioning the AIDS crisis and the jam-packed weekly support meetings called “Hay Rides” lead by metaphysical and spiritual pioneer Louise Hay in the West Hollywood Park auditorium and Project Angel Food founded by Marianne Williamson in 1989 to provide meals for home-bound HIV patients. Listen to hear all the amazing women that have been featured on We Know WeHo and be sure to go back into the archives and give a listen to any episodes you may have missed! This week local activist Shannon Morton, founder of Black Women Lead, joins the We Know WeHo team to share all the incredible service projects she is heading up through her non-profit organization that was founded last year in the month of June. Shannon's efforts are deeply rooted and all about helping the community and those in need. Black Women Lead give away 600 hot meals a week and 800 bags of groceries through the Black Women Lead Brown Bag program. After a trip to skid row downtown LA, Shannon saw a need for hygiene supplies and has recently started a Black Women Lead hygiene kit that is handed out in a backpack to those in need. For the month of February, she has teamed up local bar owners at Melrose Umbrella Company to create a cocktail, Blacker the Berry, with a label created by a young Black queer artist. EJ Gallo is donating $1 for every cocktail to go sold and Melrose Umbrella Company is matching the donation. This week's episode of We Know WeHo takes a slight turn to focus on the world of “WeHomade” cottage industry entrepreneurs. It appears that the cheeseburger and mole obsession has spilled over to now include the world of candles as the team talks to AK² Candles that are made in West Hollywood and a favorite local gift item mentioned by Rachel in the Lovely in LA episode. Adam Krell and his partner Anthony created AK² Candles (AK Squared) after ordering a simple DIY candle making kit early in quarantine that turned into a candle-making hobby with gifting friends and family their unique creations. The candles are hand-poured in West Hollywood using custom scents and fragrances and feature names inspired by the streets of WeHo. From scents inspired by Lexington, San Vicente, La Peer, and so much more, the 100% all-natural soy candles are made from American-grown soybeans and carefully mixed with luxury scents from the Wooden Wick Co. out of Laguna Beach, California. AK² Candles can be found on Etsy and through their Instagram (@candlesbyaksquared) and are fun gifts year-round for your friends who live in West Hollywood. You can use the code WKWH10 for 10% off in their Etsy shop(valid through 2/1/21). HEALTH & WELLNESS You do not want to miss Tracy's conversation with this week's second guest, Kiana Reeves, who is the Chief Brand Officer at Foria Wellness. Mathew Gerson launched Foria in 2013 with their first product, Pleasure, and promptly gained notoriety for what became known as the original “weed lube,” effectively creating the category for cannabis in sexual wellness. In addition to enhanced pleasure, Foria's products can be used to alleviate symptoms of endometriosis, vaginismus, other pelvic and genital pain conditions, provide relief of menstrual and menopausal challenges, and support overall wellness through tonics, lubes, bath salts, suppositories and more. As much as you may think you know about cannabis, cannabinoids, the body's endocannabinoid system, and CBD you are sure to learn a thing or two as a broad scope of topics are covered by Tracy and Kiana to help demystify the stigmas around the plant and its ancient use in healing remedies. For a deep dive, head to the blog their website that is highly educational and covers all the topics their products support. Tracy of course, ventured down to check out the very uniquely shaped “The Quickie”, Foria's pop-up on Rose Avenue in Venice at the location where the business was founded. Foria Wellness products can be found online and are also carried by West Hollywood dispensaries including Artist Tree, Calma and MedMen. The Quickie pop-up is open Thursday – Sunday through the end of December from 3pm – 8pm. Insider tip: the drive West is worth it as The Quickie is on the same block as American Beauty's Win-Dow for a memorable cheeseburger to go. This week, the ladies sat down for a treat with WeHo based influencer, blogger and brand strategist Rachel Richardson of Lovely in LA. “I never leave the village,” says Rachel. Today’s guest is Mayor Lindsey Horvath of West Hollywood California. In this election cycle, national political campaigns have taken over the entire news cycle. In the midst of this political fervor, it’s easy to gloss over the local elections that are in many ways just as important as the national elections. Though you may not reside in West Hollywood, the lessons and experience that Mayor Horvath brings to the discussion today resonate far beyond WeHo. Your own town council and mayor’s office probably operate in a very similar fashion. This is not the type of position that comes with national acclaim, a nice salary, and a full-time residence. These positions are filled with community organizers and political activists that can help make your community thrive. It’s time we got to know them. Listen in as we cover everything from why she has a full-time job in addition to being Mayor, what it’s been like to run a city largely via remote digital platforms, and how the city plans to make voting this election day as easy and as safe as possible.

Today we invite West Hollywood City Council Candidate, John Erickson to the podcast to help us all understand WHY it's so incredibly important that we get out to the polls this fall. John is extremely passionate about the work he's doing to create a ripple effect of change on both local and national levels and a wealth of knowledge and resources that you're going to want to listen up and take notes for! In this episode we talk about: - John's upbringing in a small conservative town and how he became comfortable speaking out for his beliefs and showing up authentically as an openly gay man - His experience as an all-american volleyball player in college & how being the victim of a hate crime only strengthened his work within the LGBTQ community -How to become an activist even if you’ve never taken an interest in politics before & why it’s never too late to take a stand! - Some of the key issues John is fighting for in his campaign (including renter's rights, homelessness and COVID-19 response)! - The importance of voting in leaders with integrity -The game changing impact you can have on the world when you choose the issues you really want to advocate for -How to avoid overwhelm and burnout when it comes to putting in "the work" AND Why it's key that we all take time to recharge for the revolution! The Witches of Weho come together for a big wine event on Vanderpump Rules, and in true fashion, Stassi throws a full bodied tantrum with notes of rage and psychosis. Other varietals include a vintage Beau, whose anxious bouquet really opens up after a few swirls, and a 2019 Kristen, which features a floral yet unstable finish. It all pairs well with an earthy meal of Scheana, Dayna, and an unwanted psychic. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
