While some opposition parties have united under the multi-party charter, political parties like the Black First Land First and liberation movement and the Pan Africanist Congress of Azania have instead headed down to Nkandla to meet with former President Jacob Zuma ahead of the general elections. This is as the black minority parties intend on uniting and consolidating their leftist vote ahead of what has been termed as the most contested elections since 1994. SABC reporter, Sibahle Motha reports.
It seems the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party's left-hand doesn't know what its right hand is doing. That much was evident when one party spokesperson told News24 that convicted fraudster Schabir Shaik was a member of the party, and another shot down claims of Shaik's affiliation with it. Shaik's appearance alongside former president Jacob Zuma at a fundraising event for Gaza on Saturday sparked speculation that he supports the party Zuma is aiming to lead. But, asked on Tuesday whether Shaik had joined the MK Party, spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndlela said, "No [Schabir] Shaik did not join MK Party, and neither was the event about the MK Party. The event was about reflecting on the atrocities that are taking place in Palestine." However, in response to the same question, another party spokesperson, Sidwell Masilela, said, "He is. He had MK banners in the event and recruit[ed] more of the Indian community." Shaik, who was found to have a corrupt relationship with Zuma, was jailed but was later released on medical parole. The confusion over his relationship with the MK Party comes after Black First Land First leader Andile Mngxitama and National People's Ambassadors (NPA) leader Nathi Mthethwa said they had joined the MK Party. On Tuesday evening, Mngxitama posted a picture of himself and Zuma on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, with the caption: "It's done! BLF vote #MK full statement to follow." The statement wasn't released. But Mngxitama told News24: "BLF is not ceasing to exist. What we agreed upon with president Zuma is an electoral pact where BLF votes for MK. Naturally, BLF shall join MK. It's a dual membership process." Meanwhile, Mthethwa told News24: "Yes, I have joined to campaign with MK, since the NPA (a small party based in KwaZulu-Natal) is not going to take part in the national elections." Asked about Mngxitama and Mthethwa, Masilela said: "Andile and Nathi... nothing confirmed yet." Ndlela said: "[Former] president Jacob Zuma has been, and continues, to engage in discussions with progressive parties with the aim of forming a united front. There are no other political party leaders that have joined MK Party." He said the party would announce the consolidated membership at its launch next month. While Zuma continues to criss-cross the country to campaign for the MK Party, the ANC has chosen to not give any attention to the actions of its former president. On Saturday at Mbombela Stadium, where the ANC held its 112th anniversary celebration, party chairperson Gwede Mantashe told News24 the ANC was not preoccupied with what other people were doing and was focused on its own programmes. However, giving a message of support at the celebrations, SACP general-secretary Solly Mapaila asked the party to deal with the Zuma matter and not "dilly-dally" around it. When greeting those in attendance, including the uMkhonto weSizwe Military Veterans, party president Cyril Ramaphosa appeared to take a dig at the MK Party when he said: "This is the real MK." On Saturday, Zuma will lead the MK Party's campaign in Limpopo.

Black First Land First, BLF is expected to hand over an affidavit to the Hillbrow Police Station in Johannesburg, which the party says proves that President Cyril Ramaphosa should be charged criminally for corruption. The party says Ramaphosa is compromised as he was allegedly involved in criminality for contravening Sections 34 of the Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act of 2004. This stems from leaked audio which purports to be of Ramaphosa admitting to using state funds for the African National Congress' operations. Here is BLF president, Andile Mngxitama
[Note: Program originally aired in August 2016] In a speech delivered in 1971 in Cape Town, South Africa, Steve Bantu Biko proclaimed that the: “The most potent weapon in the hands of the oppressor is the mind of the oppressed.” This time-less expression is currently fueling grassroots organizing and resistance efforts in South Africa. We see the echoes of this axiom in movements across South Africa from the Rhodes Must Fall/Fees Must Fall uprisings to the organizational expressions of resistance through organizations such as Black First, Land First or Abahlali baseMjondolo [Shack Dwellers Movement] and Landless People's Movement; and outside of SA, with the Homeless Workers' Movement [Brazil]. Before we begin our conversation with Andile Mngxitama, it is important to hear and think with Steve Biko. One of the Africana world's foremost activist---thinkers, Steve Biko is mostly remembered through the work and ideas of the Black Consciousness Movement (BCM). Although Steve Biko was not alone in forging the Black Consciousness Movement; he was nevertheless its most prominent leader, who with others guided the movement of student discontent into a political force unprecedented in the history of South Africa. As a consequence of his potent political mind and activity, he is inextricably linked the development and evolution of the Black Consciousness Movement, which spread across the African world, finding it's lasting expression in Afro Brazilian communities. To understand more about the life and contributions of Steve Biko, there is no other place to start than to read him, you can start by reading and thinking through I Write What I Like…but for now, we can listen to him #ThinkingBlackOutLoud. After thinking with Bantu Biko, we explore movement building in a ‘post' Apartheid SA, with Andile Mngxitama, a leading black consciousness thinker and organizer. He co-edited Biko Lives! Contesting the Legacies of Steve Biko, has published four essays in the New Frank Talk journals. He is frequent contributor to various multimedia outlets that explore Africa in general, South Africa specifically. The Black First Land First movement has officially been de-registered as a political party. This after the Electoral Court yesterday rejected the BLF's application to appeal its de-registration. In June, the Independent Electoral Commission ruled in favour of the Freedom Front Plus to have the movement officially scrapped from the list of the country's political parties. The IEC says this was based on its constitution which states that it may not register a political party that excludes membership on the basis of race, colour or ethnicity.
MultimediaLIVE — Live from the IEC's Results Operations Centre in Pretoria, the topic of the day is without a doubt the occurrence of double voting during this year’s national elections. With wide spread concern being shared among various parties, Black First Land First or the BLF national spokesperson Lindsay Maasdorp states that, double voting could be used by white monopoly capital as a means of keeping the party out of parliament.
The Congress of the People is expected to lay charges of hate speech against the Black First Land First. The party has also indicated that it will lay a formal complaint with the Human Rights Commission. This after the BLF spokesperson, Lindsay Maasdorp tweeted that the deaths of four school children who were killed when a walkway collapsed at the Hoërskool Driehoek in Vanderbijlpark should be celebrated. The Ahmed Kathrada Foundation and other political parties have also condemned Maasdorp's sentiments.
Die Congress of the People sê die party gaan 'n klagte van haatspraak teen lede van Black First Land First indien.
Guest host Vincent Makori discusses Africa's land ownership and the challenge of land reform with Phiwokuhle Mnyandu, Ph.D., Professor, Howard University, Ernst Roets, Deputy CEO, AfriForum, and with Zanele Lwana, Deputy President, Black First Land First.
A first ever Land summit has called for people to take up arms to return the land to its rightful owners. The summit held in Johannesburg was hosted by organisations claiming to represent Khoi-San people. Those in attendance included Professor Ruth Hall, Kallie Kriel from Afriforum and Andile Mngxitama of the Black First Land First movement. Candice Nolan has the details on that.

ANC members have chased away BLF members who had gathered in support of President Jacob Zuma. Meanwhile, the Protect Luthuli House co-ordinators have called for calm and for ANC members not to assault Zuma's supporters. Tsepiso Makwetla spoke to political reporter, Mbali Sibanyoni
Former Finance Minister and ANC MP Pravin Gordhan has rubbished claims that he has written the book by Jacques Pauw, "The President's Keepers". This comes after a publication Black Opinion, linked to Black First Land First, wrote an article that Gordhan wrote the book. The article revealed a picture showing how Gordhan was signing the autographs of books at Pauw's book launch last week. Our Parliamentary Correspondent Mercedes Besent reports.
Black First Land First movement leader Andile Mgxitama says he has opened a case of intimidation and racism after he was allegedly assaulted by a white man at AmaBhungane's "Inside the hashtag Gupta Leaks" town hall event in Braamfontein, Johannesburg last night. Tsepiso Makwetla spoke to Andile Mgxitama
The amaBhungane Centre for Investigative Journalism has denied claims by Black First Land First, BLF, leader Andile Mngxitama that a white man attacked him during its "Inside the hashtag Gupta Leaks" town hall event in Braamfontein, Johannesburg last night. Earlier on I spoke to Stefaans Brümmer, from AmaBhungane's Centre for Investigative Journalism who says the disruption started when he had approached Mngxitama and asked him to keep his members quiet from disrupting the event.

Sanef wants the court to order the BLF to stop intimidating journalists. BUT Black First Land First leader, Andile Mngxitama has denied that recent protest action against journalists amounted to harassment, intimidation or threat. Angela Bolowana reports

The BLF was in Parliament to make a presentation on the transformation of the financial sector. Mngxitama is alleged to have verbally attacked ANC MP Joan Fubbs, calling her a fascist, and threatened to assault Finance Committee chairperson, Yunis Carrim. Lulama Matya reports
