In this powerful conclusion to From Darkness to Sight, we encounter the healed man one final time—no longer just physically healed, but now spiritually awakened. When he meets Jesus again, everything changes. This is where sight becomes more than vision—it becomes belief. But not everyone sees. While one man moves from blindness to worship, the Pharisees remain stuck in their spiritual darkness, convinced they already see. Jesus reveals a sobering truth: it's not blindness that condemns—it's the refusal to admit it. This episode challenges us to examine our own sight. Are we truly seeing Jesus for who He is, or are we blinded by pride, religion, or assumption?

On 4 April 1886 Rev Newman Smith, pastor of the Centre Congregational Church in New Haven, Connecticut, delivered a lecture at the Labor Lyceum in the city where he condemned strikes.According to the New York Times, New Haven at the time had "picked up the reputation lately of having more strikes than any other city of its size in the country". Business owners, and the media, were uniting to fight against the Knights of Labor and other organisations of workers trying to achieve better pay and safer working conditions.Rev Smith, while he said he supported the right to strike, claimed that strikes "killed the goose that lays the golden eggs." He also argued that strikers should not try to prevent scab replacement workers from working, arguing that "if 70 men in any community say they won't work in a certain way and the seventy-first man shan't work at all if not with them, the public will stand by the seventy-first man every time." In this conversation, Brendan O'Neill joins John to discuss the global reaction to October 7 and what it reveals about the state of Western culture. They examine why protests and activism erupted across university campuses, how narratives about Israel spread rapidly through Western institutions, and why many of these institutions appeared to respond with hostility rather than solidarity. The discussion also explores the role of identity politics, social media, and shifting cultural attitudes in shaping Western democracies. O'Neill suggests that these reactions reflect a deeper loss of confidence within Western institutions in their own values and historical foundations. This is a thoughtful conversation that sheds light on the prevalence of anti-Semitism in the West.Brendan O'Neill is chief political writer and former editor of Spiked. He also a writes for TheAustralian and numerous other newspapers and magazines. His most recent book is After thePogrom: 7 October, Israel and the Crisis of Civilisation.
