Buses have arrived at Durban's Sherwood Hall playground to start repatriation of thousands of displaced Malawian nationals to their country of origin. The group had sought refuge at the site after targeted threats from anti-foreigner groups forced them to flee their communities. Humanitarian groups, including Gift of the Givers, have continued to provide emergency relief while authorities co-ordinate the repatriation process. The case of alleged underworld kingpin Vusimuzi "Cat" Matlala and three co-accused, has been postponed to Wednesday in the High Court in Johannesburg. The accused were in court this morning. Matlala is accused of orchestrating the failed attempt to kill his former girlfriend, Tebogo Thobejane, businessman Joe Sibanyoni, and music producer Seunkie Mokubung, popularly known as DJ Vettys. The much-talked-about human race is finally here. Runners from all walks of life have converged in Durban for South Africa's biggest ultramarathon. The 2026 Comrades Marathon will follow the traditional up-run route, which starts at Durban City Hall on Dr. Pixley Ka Seme (West) Street. The 86km marathon will finish at Hollywoodbets Scottsville Racecourse in Pietermaritzburg. Bongiwe Zwane spoke to SABC's Athletics Club member Muntu Khanyile.
A helicopter has been brought in to assist in the search of Zenande Chiloane who is missing since Sunday morning after their vehicle plunged into the Crocodile River in Mbombela, Mpumalanga. It is believed that the 21-year-old was in the company of the two people whose bodies were found in the vehicle when it was pulled out. The bodies of the two have been identified as that of Godfrey Virgo and Tintswalo Khoza. SABC reporter Nhlamulo Mabasa .
Residents of the Jumpers informal settlement in Cleveland, Johannesburg, have called for police visibility in their area. The call comes after twelve people were killed and nine others wounded in a shooting incident in the area last night. More than 300 EPWP workers otherwise called Green Army will today march to Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi's office in Johannesburg to demand their reinstatement. The Green Army claim their contracts were unlawfully terminated and some of them have never been paid while others were paid a monthly stipend of 2-thousand 800 instead of the government mandated monthly allowance of 5-thousand - 700 rand. Angry residents of the Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo are angry over being denied access to the body of their loved ones during burials. They have attacked a tam of healthcare workers in the town of Kotana in the South Kivu province as they attempted to carry out a safe burial of an Ebola victim. Many communities in the DRC observe traditional funeral rites that involve touching the deceased during burial. But health workers have prohibited the practice because the bodies of Ebola victims are highly infectious. Bongiwe Zwane spoke to SABC's correspondent in the DRC, Chris Ocamringa
The legal representative of alleged political fixerBrown Mogotsi, says they will appeal the decision by the Johannesburg Magistrate Court to deny him bail. Mogotsi is facing charges of unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, discharging a firearm in a built-up area, defeating the ends of justice. Western Cape police say they are investigating violence in Mossel Bay following deadly incidents in KwaNonqaba and nearby informal settlements. Authorities say two Mozambican nationals and a South African teenager were killed in separate attacks linked to recent unrest. Police report that about 55 shacks were torched during the violence in Asla Park, prompting rapid deployment of public order units and emergency services. The South African Police Service says calm has since been restored, with several arrests already made on charges including public violence and possession of stolen property. The family of slain Madlanga Commission witness Marius Van Der Merwe has welcomed the Brakpan Magistrate's Court's decision to DENY bail his alleged shooter, Matipandile Sotheni. The court has found that the state has a prima facie case against the accused. Sotheni faces 16 charges—including murder and conspiracy to commit murder—linked to the fatal shooting of Van der Merwe in in front of his family outside their Brakpan home in December last week. The Prosecutor has argued that Sotheni is a flight risk and presented contradictory information in his bail affidavits. Sakina Kamwendo spoke to SABC reporter Culvin Mabasa

KwaZulu-Natal police say looting in Estcourt has been contained, with calm now restored and no injuries reported. Six shops owned by foreign nationals were targeted as groups moved through parts of the town earlier in the day, forcing some traders to shut down and others to lock up for safety. The Zambian government has argued in the Supreme Court of Appeal that it relies on the common law of the country and the agreement that was reached between them and the family of former president Edgar Lungu. The agreement was to repatriate Lungu's body from South Africa for a state funeral and burial in Zambia. Advocate Ben Stoop for the Zambian government contends that all the country's presidents are buried at Embassy Park in Lusaka. The family of the 6th president of Zambia seeks to overturn the decision of the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria. The ruling found that Zambia is entitled to repatriate Lungu's remains for the purposes of a state funeral and burial. The case against businessman Joe "Ferrari" Sibanyoni and his co-accused has been postponed to 1st of September in the Delmas Magistrates court in Mpumalanga. This is for the defence to secure legal representation. All the accused have been granted bail of 70-thousand rand each. Sibanyoni, Daniel Masilela, Philemon Msiza and Bafana Sindane handed themselves over at the Delmas Police Station this morning where they were processed before appearing in court. They are charged with extortion and two counts of money laundering. The matter was re-enrolled today after it was struck off the roll at the Kwaggafontein Magistrate's Court last week when the prosecutor failed to appear in court. Former President Thabo Mbeki says the Phala Phala saga is a personal issue for President Cyril Ramaphosa, not an ANC matter. Speaking to SABC news specialist correspondent, Sophie Mokoena, Mbeki welcomed the Constitutional Court's decision to set aside Parliament's 2022 vote against impeaching Ramaphosa. The case relates to allegations of 580,000 US dollars stolen from the President's Limpopo farm. Mbeki argued the ANC should not involve itself in what he described as a private affair. The Chippa Mpengesi Foundation will visit the home of a six-year-old boy in Mandela Park, Mthatha, found taking care of his grandmother, mentally ill mother, and his two-year-old sibling. This follows a story done by the SABC on the plight of the family. The foundation will assess the situation and is looking into building a house for the family. The Eastern Cape Social Development MEC, Bukiwe Fanta, has also become aware of the situation and says this alarming situation highlights the urgent need for intervention and support for vulnerable families in our communities. Meanwhile, in KwaZulu-Natal, a 12-year-old boy committed suicide after he was allegedly left alone to take care of his four-year-old brother at his Riet River home last week Thursday. The Pietermaritzburg High Court has warned a former Umzimkhulu municipal manager that no further delays will be tolerated in the Sindiso Magaqa murder trial. This after the court heard that Zweliphansi Skhosana had already changed attorneys twice. His current attorney - Sibusiso Dlamini - applied for a postponement and told the court that he needed to rearrange cases, get the docket and appoint an advocate. The trial was set down to start today. Skhosana is being charged with the 2017 murder of former ANC Youth League secretary - Sindiso Magaqa - together with SboneloMyeza and MkulekoMpofana. Fraud and corruption case involving Crime Intelligence Head, Dumisani Khumalo, and six co-accused has been postponed to the third of September in the Pretoria Magistrates' Court. The case was postponed pending the outcome of representations made to the National Director of Public Prosecutions. The accused allegedly appointed an unqualified civilian within the SAPS Crime Intelligence Division. Eleven suspects, including five Mexican nationals, have briefly appeared before the Swartruggens Magistrates Court in the North West following a major intelligence-led raid on an alleged methamphetamine production site. Police say the bust uncovered precursor chemicals and equipment linked to large-scale drug manufacturing. The matter has been postponed to 22 May for immigration verification and interpreter arrangements, with a bail application also expected on that date. MP Fadiel Adams' advocate has challenged the state argument in his bail application that the National Coloured Congress leader tried to evade his arrest. Adams' bail application is being heard in the Pinetown Magistrates Court.
