Scotty talks to author, editor, and publisher Aric Sundquist about growing up a "Yooper" in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, and how his mother's love of Stephen King and Dean Koontz, sparked his early interest in dark fiction. Aric discusses the influence of Koontz, King (especially his 1978 collection "Night Shift" and the subsequent 1985 anthology film adaptation "Cat's Eye"), Lovecraft, and fantasy writers like Tolkien, Jordan, and Tad Williams on his work, and how Aric's rediscovery of Ray Bradbury's more macabre tales as an MFA candidate in Creative Writing informed his decision to move specifically into writing horror. Aric also talks about the lessons he learned in his creative writing program, and how he applies them to his work as an editor and publisher at Dark Peninsula Press, the independent publishing company he founded in 2019. He and Scotty talk about the anthologies Dark Peninsula Press has produced (spoiler alert: Scotty's stories have appeared in just about all of them), and Aric outlines his vision for the company's future. And, of course, they talk about Aric's own writing, from his absurdist comic take on cosmic horror with his novella "Serious Applicants Only" (2021, Dark Peninsula Press) to his terrifying, Joyce Carol Oates-inspired short story "The Run" (2014, "Night Terrors III"). Violet had insisted that a game of truth or dare could show people whether they would be compatible or not on a first date, as long as the game was straightforward. So we'd started with a few truths. She'd asked me intense questions: what my most painful memory was, who was the most prominent person in my masturbation fantasies, if I was to murder someone which weapon would I use? I had answered as honestly as I could: losing my mother, Madeline Smith, and a hatchet. She didn't ask for explanations, just answers. My questions to her had been timid at first, but given the nature of her own questions, I'd decided that I shouldn't bore her, so I asked about her first sexual experience and now she'd answered... “The Devouring” by Kristopher Triana first appeared in DOA II Check out the full anthology: https://amzn.to/3kWMihq Author- Kristopher Triana Amazon: https://amzn.to/3wbs5JQ Website: www.kristophertriana.com Listen to the first chapter of his new thriller A FINE EVENING IN HELL: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kwzrv2m9ExM Check out Triana's coloring book inspired by Body Art: https://amzn.to/37vuQ0l Narrator - Spencer Dillehay: https://www.spencerdillehay.com/ Produced by Blood Bound Books: https://www.bloodgutsandstory.com/new-releases Artist for Don't Fall Asleep logo Andrej Bartulovic "Maggot Meister": https://www.facebook.com/AllThingsRottenOfficial #scarystories #creepypasta #dontfallasleep #darkfiction #shortstories #creepystories #audiobooks #scaryaudiobooks #horror #readhorror #listentohorror #cannibal #extremehorror #erotichorror As Amazon affiliates, we may earn from qualifying purchases --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/blood-bound-books2/support
Phil opened his mouth, stopped, and then wiped a hand over his face. “I don't think I can finish the tasting.” Reynolds cocked his head to the side, brightly alert as a bird of prey. “Feeling ill?” “Yes.” The final glass was a richer amber than the others, so vibrant it could have held the place of honor in a pagan queen's crown. “There's only one left, and once poured, the liquor cannot be returned to the bottle. It is too precious not to be consumed.” Phil stared the taster down, wishing that either it or he would disappear and remove the choice from his plate. “I can't,” he pleaded. “Don't make me.” Harriford Distillery has a strange tasting process for their vendors, and a dark secret is hidden in their whiskey. “Barrel Aged” by Shenoa Carroll-Bradd first appeared in CHEW ON THIS! EPISODE 95: HAVE MERCY ON OUR SOULS New episode of What Are You Afraid Of? Horror & Paranormal Show. The start of our Countdown to Halloween 2018! Have Mercy On Our Souls. Being sick is a horror story. On episode 95, horror author T. Fox Dunham talks about his medical horror thriller, Mercy, published by Blood Bound Books. Mercy is the written metaphor of the pain treatment and violation he suffered while battling a rare lymphoma when he was 18. Horror host Phil Thomas asks Fox several new questions to provide insight into the book. FANGORIA gives MERCY 3.5 out 4 Skulls - "Dunham has channeled his many brushes with the other side into the exquisitely rendered, lyrical supernatural hospital thriller MERCY." English folksinger David Walton reads another ghost story from Exeter, UK. In the shops built over an old prison below the streets, spirits haunt the shopkeepers and phantom faces appear, crying out with laughter in Clumsy Ghosts of Exeter. He also reads an excerpt from T. Fox Dunham’s novel, Mercy. And new clown news! Take it while you can get it. Those creepy clowns are hibernating.
