Horror legends and icons collide in this week's history lesson: Alien (1979) opens in U.S. theaters, turning deep space into a haunted house, while Drag Me to Hell, Stranger Things 4, Wrong Turn, and Ma reshape what cursed horror looks like on screen. Explore the practical effects, sound design, and supernatural storytelling that made May 25–31 a landmark week for modern horror cinema—and what these films teach us about crafting atmospheric dread.Inside this episode:• Alien opens in U.S. theaters — May 25, 1979Ridley Scott's sci-fi horror masterpiece turns deep space into a haunted house, giving us the Nostromo, the xenomorph, the chestburster, the facehugger, and one of horror's greatest final girls in Ellen Ripley. With its grimy industrial design, corporate paranoia, and unforgettable creature work, Alien remains one of the most influential horror films ever made.Where to watch: Streaming on HBO Max and HBO Max Amazon Channel; rent/buy on Amazon Video, Apple TV, and Fandango at Home.• Stranger Things 4, Volume 1 premieres on Netflix — May 27, 2022Hawkins gets darker, scarier, and more traumatic as Vecna drags the Netflix hit fully into supernatural horror. This backwoods cannibal thriller taps into the primal fear of being lost, hunted, and far beyond help.Where to watch: Streaming on Prime Video and Prime Video with Ads; rent/buy on Amazon Video and Apple TV.• Deep-Cut Spotlight: Ma opens in U.S. theaters — May 31, 2019Blumhouse turns a basement hangout into a trap with a smile as Octavia Spencer gives Ma its creepy, uncomfortable power. What starts as teenage partying curdles into obsession, captivity, and social horror, making Sue Ann one of Blumhouse's strangest modern villains.Where to watch: Rent/buy on Amazon Video, Apple TV, and Fandango at Home.Plus, we celebrate horror birthdays for Peter Cushing, Helena Bonham Carter, Vincent Price, and Christopher Lee, then look at how this week's horror anniversaries all circle the same chilling idea: sometimes the scariest place is the trap you willingly walk into.

Resident Evil fans get a packed episode this week with a live trailer reaction from Rancho Cordova Gaming Expo and two standout interviews from Game On Expo. Frank, Phil, and Jonathan break down why the new Resident Evil movie trailer feels closer to survival horror than past film adaptations, focusing on fear, suspense, body horror, and what makes a video game adaptation actually work. Then Tyler sits down with Joe White, the voice of Chris Redfield, and Heidi Anderson Swan, the voice of Jill Valentine, for conversations about their paths into voice acting, the unexpected legacy of Resident Evil, and how performances recorded decades ago still connect with fans today. The episode closes with Joe and Heidi together, reflecting on old-school game recording, convention culture, and the lasting charm of the original Resident Evil era. Timestamps and Topics 00:00 Intro and Rancho Cordova Gaming Expo Setup 01:32 Resident Evil Trailer First Reactions 04:38 Survival Horror, Suspense, and What Past Movies Missed 06:00 Video Game Adaptations, Fallout, The Last of Us, and Silent Hill 09:08 Franchise Pressure, Authenticity, and Nostalgia in Adaptations 13:43 Guest Interview: Joe White on Chris Redfield, Disney, SpongeBob, and Voice Acting 28:22 Guest Interview: Heidi Anderson Swan on Jill Valentine and Resident Evil's Legacy 41:31 Bonus Interview: Joe White and Heidi Anderson Swan on Recording Separately and Resident Evil's Lasting Charm Key Takeaways The new Resident Evil trailer stood out because it leaned into suspense, fear, and atmosphere instead of relying only on gore or action. The panel discussed why a strong video game adaptation does not always need to retell the exact game story, as long as it feels authentic to that world. Joe White shared how he unexpectedly became the voice of Chris Redfield after starting at Disney as a 3D modeler and doing scratch dialogue. Heidi Anderson Swan reflected on Jill Valentine's importance as a tough, capable survival horror hero who did not need saving. Both interviews highlighted how voice acting has changed since the early days of video games, especially when actors recorded alone without seeing or hearing the other performances. Joe and Heidi both emphasized that Resident Evil's fan community has given new meaning to work they never expected to become iconic. Quotes "Everything about it just evoked fear." "I want a new story that lives in that universe." "What fans want is authenticity." "Chris Redfield is really just me, maybe a little bit more dramatic." "It's a gift of a lifetime." "She didn't need saving. And that's what makes her so cool."

Let the Baron know what you think of the episode... he's dying to hear from you! From Baron Sordor's Theatre of the Doomed comes THE MEDUSA SYNDROME — the episode critics are already saying “could be one of the greatest sci-fi podcast episodes of all time.”In the late 1980s, an asteroid on a collision course with Earth prompts an international team of astronauts to embark on a mission to alter its trajectory. But upon landing, they uncover an ancient secret so powerful and terrifying it threatens to destroy the entire human race. What happens next will have to be heard to be believed—an episode so colossal in sheer ambition, scale and scope that some fans say it feels more like a feature film than a podcast. The Medusa Syndrome… a retro cosmic nightmare with an ending so unbelievably insane you'll have to listen to it twice.Terror has a new face… and it's petrifying. The Medusa Syndrome Starring - Kristian Schmid – Tristan Black – Ally Morgan – Jared Stephenson – Sarah Jane Starr & Special Guest Star Jeff Martin as Baron Sordor Produced - Aaron Harvie & Natalie Harvie – Recorded at King Sound Studio – Engineer - Nick Bird – Casting - Citizen Jane Casting – Script Editor- Karen Lateo – Music – Paul Searles & Il Terrori Notturni - Written & Directed - Aaron HarvieFor more information go to bloodbrainsandaliens.comSupport the showFor more Blood, Brains & Aliens content go to www.bloodbrainsandaliens.com or follow us on the socials... Send us Fan MailThe latest episode of the Entertain This! Podcast plunges headfirst into the shadowy corridors of the Resident Evil franchise, with a razor-sharp review of Capcom's freshly released ninth mainline installment (and eleventh overall), Resident Evil: Requiem—because apparently the series needed yet another reason to make us question every dark corner since 1996.Launched on February 27, 2026, Requiem introduces FBI analyst Grace Ashcroft, who finds herself unraveling a trail of mysterious deaths tied to Raccoon City survivors, while players alternate control with the ever-enduring Leon S. Kennedy—because nothing says “fresh horror” like sharing the spotlight with a man who has aged like fine wine and zombie-killing adrenaline. The hosts deliver a meticulous breakdown of its survival horror credentials, pulse-pounding action set pieces, narrative ambition, and technical polish, assessing just how deftly it marries the franchise's signature tension with today's cinematic flair across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and the newly arrived Nintendo Switch 2.The conversation then takes a well-deserved victory lap through the series' storied legacy, tracing its evolution from the original tank-controlled nightmare through every mutation, reboot, and questionable live-action detour that followed. Expect sharp observations on recurring motifs, character arcs (yes, even the ones that somehow survived), and the gameplay innovations that have kept this undead saga shambling forward for nearly three decades. Finally, the episode peers into the crystal ball—or perhaps the foggy remains of Raccoon City—for the franchise's next moves as it celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2026. The discussion weighs in on likely remakes, potential DLC expansions, and Capcom's delicate tightrope walk between pure horror, over-the-top action, and coherent storytelling. This installment provides a comprehensive, even-handed dissection that will satisfy veteran survivors and those just now daring to open the Spencer Mansion doors. Tune in for incisive analysis, lively debate, and the kind of enthusiasm that proves why Resident Evil remains one of survival horror's most resilient—and terrifyingly addictive—legends.Support the show

In this episode, we dive into one of the most controversial and disturbing comics ever published — Crossed by Garth Ennis and Jacen Burrows.Originally released in 2008, Crossed presents a brutal vision of societal collapse where a mysterious contagion strips humanity of all restraint, turning the infected into sadistic killers marked by the red cross across their faces. This episode explores the entire first volume (Issues 0–9), breaking down the story arc, the major characters, and the themes that make the series both fascinating and deeply unsettling. We follow Stan, Cindy, and a small group of survivors as they attempt to navigate a world where civilization has collapsed almost overnight. Along the way we examine the evolution of the Crossed themselves, the psychological toll on survivors, and the moral compromises that arise when survival becomes the only priority. We also explore how Crossed reflects real-world anxieties, including themes of societal fragility and disaster response — ideas that Garth Ennis has cited as inspiration following events like Hurricane Katrina.Content warning: This series contains extreme violence and disturbing subject matter. Listener discretion is advised. If you're a fan of horror comics or want to understand why Crossed remains one of the most talked-about graphic novels in modern horror, this episode provides a full breakdown of the first run of the series.Send us a message (I'm not able to reply)Support the showPage Chewing Blog Page Chewing Forum Film Chewing PodcastSpeculative Speculations Podcast Support the podcast via PayPal Support the show by using our Amazon Affiliate linkJoin Riverside.fm Co-Hosts: Jarrod Varsha Chris Jose Carl D. Join Gaius and Jackson as we set the premise, vibe, and emotional throughline of the survival horror thriller, Send Help, and explain why Sam Raimi's signature style plus Damian Shannon and Mark Swift's writing could create a tense, high-stakes world for Rachel McAdams and Dylan O'Brien to inhabit. We dive into Sam Raimi's directing DNA—practical effects, inventive camera work, rapid-fire pacing, and dark humor—and discuss how these tools would reshape suspense, action sequences, and scares in a modern survival setup. We also break down how the writer-team's strengths—tight plotting, character-driven stakes, and twisty reversals—could fuel a lean, relentless thriller. Expect conversations about pacing, tension management, and crafting memorable twists that land with impact. We also shine a light on the pairing of Rachel McAdams and Dylan O'Brien in lead roles: what emotional range they bring to their roles, how their chemistry drives survivor dynamics, and what kind of character arcs maximize suspense and empathy for their characters. Weekly Spooky horror podcast brings you a high-seas survival horror nightmare for our Best of 2025 series—equal parts ghost ship, creature feature, and “you're trapped and nobody is coming.” Chance and Luka are stranded after a shipwreck—clinging to a container in open water while the ocean churns around them. But rescue doesn't arrive… and when a drifting vessel appears out of the fog, it feels like a miracle. A derelict ocean liner. A ghost ship. A place to rest, warm up, and wait it out. Except the ship isn't empty. The corridors are wrong. The cabins are shredded. The galley has been ransacked down to the metal. And the scraping in the walls isn't the sea—it's something living, swarming, and hungry. What starts as a lucky break turns into a full-blown claustrophobic horror story about bad choices, worse timing, and the terrifying moment you realize the lifeboat might not be yours anymore. If you love ghost ship horror, monster infestations, ocean survival stories, and relentless “can't escape” tension, this one is a year-round must-listen—especially with headphones on in a dark room.Ship of the Cannibal Rats — by David O'Hanlon
Daisy Ridley (who we remembered as “that Star Wars girl”) stars in a new survival horror flick that gives viewers more than just zombies to sink (and grind) their teeth into. Tune in to hear us break down “We Bury the Dead” — from the many themes and layers represented by the undead, to the protagonist's sexy sidekick, and the biggest question of all — can zombies have human babies?

Click here to try it out! This week, the dads head into the mosh pit with Jeremy Saulnier's brutal, claustrophobic thriller Green Room — where a struggling punk band finds themselves trapped in a neo-Nazi club after witnessing a murder. It's one part siege movie, one part social horror, and all parts grim. When the Ain't Rights take a last-minute gig deep in Oregon's backwoods, they expect low pay and bad beer — not blood, dogs, machetes and Patrick Stewart as a terrifying skinhead ringleader. What follows is a night of panic, violence and duct-tape surgery, as the band fights to survive against an organised fascist militia who'd rather clean up witnesses than pay for another gig.We dig into:Punk authenticity — the grime, the DIY spirit, and how Saulnier nails the small-venue chaos.Patrick Stewart's casting — calm, chilling, and galaxies away from Captain Picard.Anton Yelchin's tragic final performance — and what a loss he was.Violence that hurts — no jump scares, just sudden, stomach-turning realism. The Nazi problem — why these villains feel horrifyingly believable in 2025.The A24 factor — another lean, mean indie proving the studio's knack for smart brutality.Elsewhere in the episode: ☕ The Top 5 Hot Drinks delivers peppermint tea, Dirty Harry's coffee, and more filth than a builder's thermos.
In this week's episode of The Game Informer Show, we dive deep into the past to save the future with Cronos: The New Dawn, which sounds cool, but is ultimately fine. It's a solid survival horror game from Bloober Team. We also dive into the latest major update for Deadlock, the new multiplayer game from Valve, discuss why the Trails In The Sky FC remake could similarly popularize the role-playing games like Yakuza 0 did for its respective series in 2017, and talk about Kirby and the Forgotten Land's Star-Crossed World DLC on Switch 2.The Game Informer Show is a weekly podcast covering the video game industry.
