Most people spend a lot of time thinking about what they want. A better job. A bigger paycheck. More freedom. But very few people ever stop to calculate the cost of not getting it. Not next year. This year. And the year after that. And the year after that. That's what got me thinking. What if the biggest expense in your life isn't something you're paying for? What if it's something you're not doing? In this week's lesson, I'm walking you through a simple exercise that will completely change how you think about your career, your growth, and daily choices. Because sometimes the most expensive decisions are the ones that don't feel like decisions at all. In this listener-driven episode of the Providence Financial Retirement Show, we answer some of the most common retirement questions. Learn why Social Security isn't likely to "go broke," what changes could be made to strengthen the system, and why filing decisions should be based on your personal situation, not fear. We also explain the "tax torpedo" and how IRA withdrawals can unexpectedly increase taxes, Medicare premiums, and the taxation of Social Security benefits. Plus, discover how Roth conversions can help reduce future tax burdens and whether today's higher interest rates make annuities worth considering as part of a retirement income plan. If your job search feels harder than it should, it's probably not because you're underqualified, bad at interviewing, or missing the goods. It's more likely…
In this episode of the Providence Financial Retirement Show, we break down the key rules behind Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs) and the mistakes that can trigger steep IRS penalties. You'll learn how RMD amounts are calculated, why they change year to year, and the critical "aggregation rules" that determine which retirement accounts can (and cannot) be combined when taking withdrawals. The episode also explains one of the most common and costly errors: taking an RMD from the wrong account type, and how that can still result in penalties even if you withdrew the correct total amount. Finally, we explain why proactive planning, including Roth conversions, can help reduce future RMD pressure and give retirees more control over taxable income in retirement. Sometimes an interview is an hour. Sometimes it's several rounds stretched across multiple days. And sometimes you finally get time with the hiring manager… and the calendar invite says 30 minutes. That's when many job seekers make the same mistake. They think I need to cram everything in. So they start walking through their résumé, overexplaining their background, stacking story after story, and trying to prove every qualification they've ever had. But that's not what a 30-minute interview with the hiring manager is about. The hiring manager is not trying to memorize your entire career history. They're trying to make a few key decisions quickly: Do I like this person? Do they fit our team and environment? Can they help us achieve our goals? What will they actually be like to work with? Today's lesson covers THE 4 areas you absolutely must win when you only have 30 minutes with the hiring manager. Because when the interview window is short, quality beats volume every time. Submission guidelines can be found at http://www.TallTaleTV.com ---- About Tall Tale TV ---- Hi there! My name is Chris Herron and I'm an audiobook narrator. In 2015, I suffered from poor Type 1 diabetes control which lead me to become legally blind for almost a year. The doctors didn't give me much hope, predicting an 80% chance that I would never see again. But I refused to give up and changed my lifestyle drastically. Through sheer willpower (and an amazing eye surgeon) I beat the odds and regained my vision. During that difficult time, I couldn't read or write, which was devastating as they had always been a source of comfort for me since childhood. However, my wife took me to the local library where she read out the titles of audiobooks to me. I selected some of my favorite books, such as the Disc World series, Name of the Wind, Harry Potter, and more, and the audiobooks brought these stories to life in a way I had never experienced before. They helped me through the darkest period of my life and I fell in love with audiobooks. Once I regained my vision, I decided to pursue a career as an audiobook narrator instead of a writer. That's why I created Tall Tale TV, to support aspiring authors in the writing communities that I had grown to love before my ordeal. My goal was to help them promote their work by providing a promotional audio short story that showcases their writing skills to readers. They say the strongest form of advertising is word of mouth, so I offer a platform for readers to share these videos and help spread the word about these talented writers. Please consider sharing these stories with your friends and family to support these amazing authors. One of the biggest mistakes job candidates make is thinking the interview is only about what they say. So they spend all their time preparing answers and trying to sound impressive. Meanwhile… The interviewers are reacting, signaling, judging, connecting, disengaging, leaning in, checking out, growing skeptical, getting interested, and making real-time decisions based on how they feel. Most job candidates never notice any of it. They walk out thinking, That went pretty well. Then they never hear back. Ouch. Strong candidates don't just answer questions.

In this week's podcast, we address four important retirement issues listeners are asking right now: 1. Could long-term care wipe out your savings? 2. Are annuities smart protection or a bad investment? 3. Are you taking too much stock market risk in retirement? 4. How do you create income without draining your portfolio? One of the biggest mistakes professionals make is assuming that because a company is hiring… the company must be healthy. Uh, sadly, no. Sometimes they're putting fresh paint on the walls and didn't bother to patch the concrete underneath. Today, I have a short, but powerful lesson on how to evaluate whether you're joining a company that's going up… Or is sinking, but just doesn't know it yet. Of course, no one has a crystal ball. But as your dear ole' Coach Andy likes to say… I can see around corners because I know what to look for. In the next 5+ minutes, you too will have my see-around-the-corner goggles. Just ask a few questions and you'll know whether their needle is moving up or down. Smart professionals don't just evaluate the job. They evaluate the future of the company offering it. When most people hear the words "estate plan", they picture the ultra-wealthy - people with vacation homes, mansions, and millions in the bank. But here's the truth: estate planning isn't about how much you have, it's about what happens to your loved ones when you're gone. In this episode, we'll break down what an estate plan really is, and why everyday families in California need one. If you own a home or have more than $184,500 in assets, you could be subject to probate, a long and expensive court process that delays your estate from passing smoothly to your heirs. We'll unpack the essential building blocks of an effective estate plan, including: - Living Trusts – how they keep your estate out of probate and protect your privacy - Healthcare Directives – making sure your wishes are honored if you can't speak for yourself - Living Wills – defining the care you want in advance - Powers of Attorney – naming someone you trust to make decisions on your behalf Your estate plan is one of the greatest gifts you can give your loved ones - not a symbol of wealth, but a plan of protection, clarity, and peace. #WillDodson #Comebacks #Gloria Monti #MitchHamptonInside this episode with your host, Mitch Hampton:I enjoyed the discussion with Will Dodson so much that I had to have him back for a second episode. I think this might be one of the few podcast episodes wherein we mention figures as varied as Jimmy Stewart, Woody Strode, John Ford, Chuck Vincent, Gloria Swanson, Fred Olen Ray, Wes Craven and Pam Grier, but that is the kind of thing that can happen when Will and I come into contact. Not only was I happy that Gloria Monti brought the wonderful book that is Comebacks: The Return of the Aging Film Star (Wayne State UP, 2025) into our world that she co-edited with Martin Shinglerand. They bring the story of artists like Woody Strode to future generations but I can't help but feel that, speaking philosophically, the subject or concept of the comeback itself might be one that is most integral to all of the arts in any age. Relationship with God Episode 115 tells the story of a survivor from Auschwitz and the miraculous connection and marriage he makes with the young woman who saved his life after the Allied Forces came into the concentration camps at the end of WWII. The story reveals: It reveals the power and presence of God in our lives. It reveals the mercy of God amidst the tragedy that we humans have created. It reveals the continuing witness to how a story can affect us when we hear something that seems to “break through the reality of tragedy” and we find that “hope” is what we cannot escape. We hope for something that pierces darkness, destruction, despair and death. God's Greatness God has conquered and continues to conquer all four forces that have come against His light, creative nature, hope, and life itself. His light pierces darkness. His creative nature steps into destruction. His unyielding presence defeats despair. His resurrection power conquers death. The Deceiver cannot conquer God's goodness, love, power and presence in our lives. Jesus calls us to him as the Shepherd and we the sheep who cannot live without the Good Shepherd: I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. He will come in and go out, and find pasture. In this week's episode, we explore the hidden risks that can quietly derail an otherwise solid retirement plan if you're not prepared for them ahead of time. We break down how to stress test your portfolio against some of the biggest threats retirees face today, including inflation, rising taxes, sequence of returns risk, long-term care expenses, behavioral mistakes, and even the financial impact of losing a spouse. You'll learn why a retirement plan that looks great on paper may still have dangerous weak spots, how to identify the pressure points in your own strategy, and what practical steps you can take now to create more confidence and stability for the future. Because retirement isn't just about growing your money. It's about making sure your plan can survive when life doesn't go according to plan. I want to discuss one of the most important decisions you make in a job interview. It happens before you ever start speaking. It's not how you tell your story. It's which story you choose. Most candidates default to the example they like the most. The one they're most proud of. The one that feels the most impressive. But that's not what determines whether it lands. The story that sells you best is the one that fixes what's hurting them right now. When you choose the right story, your value becomes immediate and obvious. You don't have to work as hard to explain it. You don't have to hope they connect the dots. They see it. In this week's lesson, I share a powerful analogy that'll help you identify which story will score highest in an interview so you can make your impact clear from the start. TWR Wednesday | More Political Malarkey & The Myth of RecyclingOn this episode of The Whitfield Report, Sam Whitfield is joined by Max Sand for another round of political absurdity, media self-owns, and a deep dive into one of the most accepted “common sense” narratives in American life: recycling.First, Sam breaks down Nick Fuentes revealing that he is now left-wing — a moment that raises serious questions about whether he was ever actually interested in helping conservatives, or if the goal was always to poison the well, sabotage the right, and make serious political movements look radioactive by association. Then, Tucker Carlson manages to shoot himself in the proverbial foot during his appearance on a New York Times podcast, offering another example of how media figures can become trapped by their own contradictions, audiences, and personal mythologies.Later in the show, Max explains the greed, corruption, lobbying, and special interests behind many national, state, and local recycling initiatives. What most people were taught as a simple environmental good may actually be a tangled mess of political incentives, corporate marketing, municipal waste contracts, and feel-good public relations. It's politics, media manipulation, environmental mythology, and classic TWR Wednesday malarkey all in one episode. Please Support The Show:Sam's Substack: https://samwhitfield.substack.com/Rumble: https://rumble.com/user/TheWhitfieldReportWhitfield Report Guilded server: https://www.guilded.gg/r/zzzE8b61qR?i=AYwozWndSam's Amazon Author Page: https://www.amazon.com/stores/Sam-Whitfield/author/B00M1DNU88Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/4DIcoDO0BIDyuH7SWIsAB8American Instinct Pulp Adventures: https://americaninstinct.substack.comBuy Me A Coffee: https://buymeacoffee.com/whitfieldreport
Most job seekers think they need to beat the ATS. Optimize the résumé. Match the keywords. Play the system. That's the wrong goal. You don't beat the ATS.
Fifty years ago, retirement was simple. Today, it's anything but. In this episode, we unpack why modern retirement planning is more complex (and more risky) than ever before. With people living longer and financial responsibility shifting from employers to individuals, the margin for error is smaller than ever. From deciding when to take Social Security to managing your own investments without a pension, the responsibility is now on you. We also cover key changes like required minimum distributions, Roth strategies, and rising healthcare costs, and why more retirees today fear running out of money more than anything else. If you're approaching retirement or already there, this conversation will help you avoid common mistakes and build a strategy focused on what matters most: reliable income for life. The Cole Goldberg case has drawn widespread attention as investigators and the public examine a complex timeline filled with conflicting accounts, forensic evidence, and unanswered questions. Authorities have presented their findings, while alternative perspectives continue to challenge key aspects of the case, fueling ongoing debate. In this livestream, we break down the known facts, explore the uncertainties, and discuss the broader implications surrounding the investigation and its impact.
Let's talk about something most candidates completely miss in interviews.
The market dropped, then quickly recovered. But what if next time it doesn't? In this episode, we break down why recent market rebounds can create a false sense of security, and how that mindset can quietly put your retirement at risk. Because history shows the market doesn't always bounce back quickly, and sometimes not at all - for years. We also tackle key questions: - Should you just ride out volatility, or make changes as you get closer to retirement? - What happens if the market drops right before (or after) you retire? - How do you avoid relying on growth when you actually need income? You'll learn why having a true plan matters, how to evaluate your current strategy, and the steps you can take now to create stability and real peace of mind, no matter what the market does next. Let's talk about something that sets people back. Career mistakes. Not obvious ones. Ones that look like progress. Work hard. Stay loyal. Do a good job. The kind of unnoticeable acts that don't cost you a bad day. They cost you years. Years of time. Income. Momentum you never get back. And it happens because people are pointed in the wrong direction. Not because they aren't capable. That's what we're fixing today. This week's Tuesday Tips is not just a list. It's a full-on hour of how careers actually work. I walk you through 26 of the costliest mistakes across five critical areas: · Career Design, where most people drift instead of choosing a lane. · Career Growth, why people build the wrong skills or don't build them at all. · On-the-Job, how doing "enough" keeps you stuck. · Job Search, where most people completely misplay the game. · Networking, the mistakes that keep opportunities out of reach. And more importantly that pointing out these mistakes, I'll teach you how to fix them so you can stop losing time and start making big-time progress. Let's talk about the thing that's sitting in the back of a lot of people's minds right now… "Is AI going to take my job?" I get it. You're seeing layoffs. You're hearing nonstop noise about automation. But here's the problem… Most people are asking the wrong question. They're thinking about AI like it's coming to take a fixed number of jobs. That's not how this works. Every major wave of technology does two things at the same time: It eliminates certain roles in the short term. And it expands the total number of opportunities over time. The real issue isn't "Will AI take my job?" It's…
Most political commentary goes in circles; this episode cuts through the noise with sharp, unfiltered insight into the real power plays and online grifting within the MAGA movement. Sam Whitfield reveals why the idea of a "MAGA civil war" is nothing more than internet drama engineered to generate clicks—right when the country is more resilient than ever. If you're tired of the endless rumor mill and want to understand what's really happening behind the scenes in Washington and the online echo chambers, this episode is your wake-up call.In this no-holds-barred solo show, Sam tackles the latest in Trump's fiery True Social posts that sparked a social media explosion, exposing the grifters, the fake controversy, and the manufactured conflicts fueling the MAGA identity crisis. You'll discover how influencers like Tucker Carlson, Candace Owens, and Alex Jones are being used or misguiding their audiences, often for short-term gains instead of genuine patriotism. Sam also offers a candid critique of the post-election political landscape, breaking down the illusions of “civil war” and why the real battle is fought in hearts, minds, and on the voting ballot—not on social media flame wars. You'll also learn how the mainstream narrative is distorting the intent behind Trump's messages, the hypocrisy of online personalities claiming to defend MAGA while grifting off the chaos, and why true patriotism requires staying grounded in reality rather than falling for conspiracy-driven theatrics. Sam emphasizes the importance of authentic engagement—highlighting how genuine supporters, like himself, cut through the fake noise with real conversations, not clickbait.Perfect for anyone exhausted by internet drama, eager to understand the strategic game behind the headlines, or looking for a honest perspective on America's future—this episode cuts through the chaos with clarity and conviction. If you believe in real patriotism, want to navigate the woke-era infighting, and are tired of staged conflicts, don't miss this episode. It's your insider's guide to understanding the true state of America's political battlefield—without the distractions.Sam Whitfield is the host of The Whitfield Report, known for his no-nonsense take on politics, media, and culture. A seasoned commentator who's watched the internet's distortion of real issues, Sam's approach channels genuine patriotism and critical thinking in a sea of clickbait. If you're ready to see through the mainstream illusions and focus on what truly matters—strengthening America from the ground up—this episode is essential listening. Don't get played by the grifters or caught in the internet's endless drama. There is no faster accelerator in your career than communication. And there is no bigger drag. Think about it. You have skills. Experience. Judgment. Ideas that could help your team, your company, and your customers. But between everything you know and the value you deliver sits one thing: Communication. It's the wrapper around everything you know. It either broadcasts your value or it traps it inside. Most professionals think their communication problem is clarity. It usually isn't. It's process. When someone asks for an update, a proposal, or a recommendation, most people open a blank page and start writing. While they're writing, they're also… figuring out what they want to say. organizing the information. editing the sentences. All at the same time! That's the mistake. Great communication isn't winged. It's constructed. In today's Tuesday Tips lesson, I'm going to show you the exact system I use to create every form of communication I produce. These steps helped me write this newsletter, the talk I'm giving you at Live Office Hours on Thursday, and even my books like Signal Strength. One of the biggest mistakes job seekers make in interviews is trying to sell their skills. They walk through their résumé. They explain what they know. They talk about tools and responsibilities. They assume the employer will connect the dots. But employers are not hiring skills. They are hiring value. Skills are just the ingredients. Value is the outcome. Two candidates can have the same skills. Why does one get the offer and the other doesn't?

Happy St. Patrick's Day. ☘️ If you're counting on luck in your job search, we need to talk. Let me say something that might sting a little. Your skills aren't the reason you're not getting offers. And they're definitely not the reason you'll get one. Most job seekers think interviews are about listing what they know. "I'm certified in…" "I've done Agile…" "I've led teams…" "I implemented…" That's a menu. Employers don't buy menus. They buy outcomes. They buy transformation. They buy the feeling that when you walk in the door, their problem walks out. (Not to break up the speed at which you're reading this, but you can't imagine how long it took me to come up with the previous line you just read.

There is at least one moment in a job interview you can count on. Whether it happens literally or figuratively, it's this: "Tell me about your accomplishments." What do many people do when they hear this? They panic. Not because they don't have wins. But because they don't know how to talk about them without feeling awkward, arrogant, or self-promotional. And that's where offers disappear. Whether you're interviewing for a new role or discussing your impact with your current employer, one thing matters more than anything else: Can you clearly explain what you've accomplished and why it mattered? If you can't, the interviewer fills in the blanks for you. And they usually get it wrong. That's why today's lesson is focused on how to share your wins without sounding like you're bragging. This lesson will help you talk about your achievements in a way that sounds confident and credible, not self-important. Most professionals don't struggle because they lack experience. They struggle because they can't remember the details that give their accomplishments life. When resumes need updating or interview stories come up, people realize how much context and impact they've lost over time. And memory is a terrible career strategy. That's why today's lesson shows you how to capture your career wins so you can build a stronger résumé, tell better interview stories, and create more job opportunities. Career wins aren't just promotions or big projects. They're problems solved, improvements made, systems built, and results created along the way. If you don't document those wins as they happen, your experience gets watered down. What should sound impressive ends up sounding average. I hate that I even have to write this. But fake recruiters and fake job postings are everywhere right now. And job seekers are being targeted hard. That's not because you're careless. It's because scammers go after people who are motivated, hopeful, and actively searching. That's you. What makes this worse is how convincing these scams have become. In fact, a couple months ago, one of my clients showed me a recruiter message that fooled me! The company looked real. The LinkedIn profile looked legit. The email sounded professional. It wasn't. That's why this week's lesson is about how to protect yourself. Not with fear. With awareness. In today's video, I walk you through 10 clear warning signs that help you quickly answer one critical question: Is this real…or is it just a scam? You'll learn: What to check first when a recruiter emails or messages you. How fake job postings give themselves away. Why Gmail addresses, rushed language, and vague roles should always make you pause. What legitimate recruiters never ask you for. How to verify a job or recruiter in minutes, not hours. This isn't about becoming paranoid. It's about becoming informed. If you're job searching right now, please don't skip this one. Even smart, experienced professionals are getting caught off guard. And if this helps you, pass it along to someone else who's searching. A simple heads up can save them a lot of stress. Listen to STOP Falling for Fake Jobs and Recruiter Scams now!
