Lyons quickly took on this new challenge and completed a marathon just five months after the date of his injury. He found his passion for handcycling and would relocate to the USPOC training center in Colorado Springs exactly three years after the date of his injury. Lyons made his first national team in 2019 and is aiming for the Paris Paralympics later this summer.

Brandon is a Paralympic Cycling National Team athlete who works for an accounting firm. In 2014, he dove into shallow waters at the beach and was left paralyzed from the chest down. Claiming ownership of his life with a spinal cord injury meant relearning all his daily activities from feeding himself to changing clothes and getting active again. He started using a handcycle for cardiovascular improvement and was immediately hooked. Brandon grew as an athlete and exactly three years after the accident, he was invited to join the US Paralympic Cycling Residence Program. CAF has supported Brandon with competition travel and equipment costs over the years, helping him make huge strides in his athletic career and qualifying for his first world championships. Brandon is a two-time silver medalist at the 2019 Parapan American Games, silver medalist at the 2019 Paracycling World Championship, and earned multiple medals at the UCI World Cup and National Championships. Now he's training full-time with the US Paralympic Cycling Team to bring home the gold from the 2021 Tokyo Paralympics. We are grateful to spend an hour with Brandon Lyons and Kristie Boltz and talk about his journey. Coach Brandon Lyons is in his fourth year as Head Coach at Woodstown High School. He wass born and raised in South Jersey. He lived in Franklinville and attended Delsea High School. He loved playing sports growing up. He got the opportunity to play a variety of sports. He realized that he enjoyed working with kids, so after graduating high school he went on to study Exercise Science with a focus on earning his teaching degree. He got his start coaching while he was still in college. One day he had a prep period and asked if he could go to the gym and shoot some hoops. While he was shooting he was approached and asked to coach middle school basketball. Coach Lyons took advantage of this opportunity to learn as much as he could. After years of volunteering and working as an assistant, he got a job working in the Woodstown High School. Immediately, he approached the boys coach to get involved with coaching. Soon after, the girls job opened uo and he was named the Head Coach of the Woodstown High School Girls Basketball Team. And as they say, the rest is history. https://twitter.com/whsgirlshoops1 Music Credit: https://freemusicarchive.org/music/Nicholas_Mackin/A_Journey/04Nicholas_Mackin-Ellinor-A_Journey_II-A_Journey-SLC41_Soisloscerdos

For today’s show we are going down to the State of Arkansas to talk to Brandon Lyons of 5 Acre Farms. Brandon is someone who transitioned into farming from the nursery trade way back in 2010. Since then he’s grown his farm to 1.25 acre, and during that same time he’s also grown his family getting married and having kids. It’s a farming journey that started out with a single farmer who could put in crazy hours on the farm to make it work, but one that’s now changed to a husband and father farmer, who absolutely can’t put in crazy hours on farm. As a result Brandon is now focusing on crop selection, seasonality, and processes to make the hours he does spend on the farm pay, and pay well. One of the processes that Brandon has focuses on over the years to help save time and labor is no-till. He’s employed that strategy on his farm seeing great results both in terms of soil and reduced weed pressure. In this episode we’ll find out why he did it and how he did it, today it’s all about running a high intensity vegetable operation in rural Arkansas with farmer Brandon Gordon. Hebrews 11 gives us a reflection of the faithful that "the world is not worthy". If the climax of the Bible is you and your faithful service to God, how does it read? Is it worthy?
