The continued shift toward self-administered therapies is changing how pharmaceutical companies think about patient support. While access and affordability remain priorities, a growing share of industry attention is focused on the patient experience itself, particularly during the critical transition from prescription to successful treatment initiation. In this episode of The Top Line, Adam Shain, Vice President and Head of Business Transformation and Growth and Government Affairs Lead at Noble, an Aptar Pharma company, examines why patient onboarding, device training, and engagement strategies are increasingly being viewed as interconnected components of a broader patient experience. Drawing from Noble's work in self-administration support, Shain discusses the importance of incorporating patient insights into program design, the evolving complexity of at-home treatment models, and the industry's growing focus on adherence and long-term treatment success.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The question, "What are you doing today?" and the response, "Nothing," might not seem like a life-changing moment to most people. But for Sim Shain, it became the catalyst for everything he has built since. As a paramedic, public speaker, entrepreneur, and CEO of Paraflight Aviation, Sim has dedicated his life to showing up for others. His story is one of stepping out of line, standing up for people who need someone in their corner, and proving that one simple decision can change countless lives. We met Sim years ago when Peri was a camper at Camp Simcha Special. She became severely dehydrated and had to be transported from camp to the local hospital for treatment. Sim rode with her in the ambulance alongside her counselor, kept Peri calm through the whole experience, reassured two terrified parents when they got the call, and then brought her back to camp the very next day. From that moment on, Sim has never stopped showing up for our family. If it wasn't for him, Peri never would have made it to her TEDx Talk in Texas in May 2025. He made it happen, just like he has done for so many people over the years. This podcast episode titled “What are you doing today?” is a special one because it is more than just a conversation. It is a conversation between friends, between people whose lives have been intertwined for years, and between people who believe in the power of giving back and how showing up for others can change everything. We're so excited for you to hear Sim's story. We have no doubt it will leave you thinking about the impact one person can have simply by saying yes when someone needs them.So what are you doing today?

Episode 232 with Shain Shapiro, Founder and Executive Director of the Center for Music Ecosystems and one of the world's leading experts on music, public policy, and economic development. Through his work advising more than 130 cities and governments worldwide, Shain has helped reposition music from being viewed simply as entertainment to being recognised as a driver of investment, job creation, and long term economic growth. He is also one of the architects behind the Music Economy Development Initiative (MEDI), a global partnership that has launched the first ever platform to map the music economies of all 55 African countries. In this episode, Shain explains why Africa's music industry represents one of the continent's most overlooked economic opportunities. Despite African music reaching audiences around the world through genres such as Afrobeats and Amapiano, Africa captures only a tiny share of the music royalties, copyright revenues, and wider economic value its creators generate. Drawing on landmark research from the Music Economy Development Initiative, he explains why nearly 286 million US dollars in recorded music revenue remains uncollected in Nigeria and Kenya alone, and how stronger copyright systems, improved intellectual property protections, better rights management, and greater investment could unlock billions of dollars for African creators and the wider economy. We discuss why governments should begin treating music as economic infrastructure rather than simply culture, how better data can transform policymaking and attract investment, the role of development finance institutions in strengthening Africa's creative industries, and why countries such as Nigeria and Côte d'Ivoire are emerging as important case studies for music ecosystem development. What We Discuss With ShainWhy Africa dominates global music culture but captures so little of its economic value. The hidden copyright, royalty, and policy infrastructure every successful music industry needs. Why nearly 286 million US dollars in music revenue goes uncollected in Nigeria and Kenya. Can Africa's music industry become one of the continent's next major economic growth sectors? How better policy, investment, and copyright systems could transform Africa's creative economy.Did you miss my previous episode where I discuss Investing $100 Million to Create Africa's Next Million Jobs: Why Manufacturing Beats Tech? Your easy weekly guide to the music biz and how it all works. This week: two very special guests talk about how to actually make important change happen in the UK's live industry at grassroots level, and improve the live music fan's experience: we welcome back Lord Kevin Brennan of Canton, Labour member of the House of Lords and a recording musician himself. We also speak to Shain Shapiro, who amongst other things is author of This Must Be The Place: How Music Can Make Your City Better. He explains what he learned and what can – and should – be done next. Then Shain explains why live music must be treated as a "vital public good" – i.e. just like libraries or the NHS – and how people like you can build real political heft, in order to save their struggling local spaces. Lord Brennan reflects on his past work with the Music Streaming Inquiry, examining how parliamentary reports can ripple out to create real-world impact for creators, even when they don't instantly become law.Essential learnings from the live fans' report: From transport and safety to fair ticketing, Lord Brennan boils down the core pillars that everyday music lovers actually care about. The surge pricing backlash: The data doesn't lie – fans are united in their hatred of dynamic ticket surging. Right now, as you're reading this sentence, something remarkable is happening in your brain. Light waves from your screen hit your eyes, transform into electrical signals, and take on meaning. You understand what you're reading. This is language — our human superpower. But despite 150 years of intensive research, we still do not have a complete picture of how the brain actually accomplishes all of this. We don't even have a good answer to a seemingly simple question: Where in the brain does language happen? It turns out, the answer may be different in different people.Today we'll hear from neuro-linguist Cory Shain, one of the leaders of a new Big Ideas in Neuroscience project here at Wu Tsai Neuro that is combining multiple brain recording techniques to build individualized maps of the language network—and use these insights to improve brain implants for people who've lost the ability to speak or write due to brain injury or illness.Learn moreLaboratory for Computation & Language in Minds & BrainsLaboratory of Speech NeuroscienceNeural Prosthetics Translational LabBrainGateHow the Brain Processes Different Components of Language (Psychology Today, 2024)Big Ideas in Neuroscience tackle brain science of everyday life and more (Wu Tsai Neurosciences Institute, 2026)Study of promising speech-enabling interface offers hope for restoring communication (Stanford Medicine, 2025)The neuroscience of understanding (Stanford Momentum, 2025)Distributed Sensitivity to Syntax and Semantics throughout the Language Network(Journal of Cognitive Neuroscience, 2025)Hierarchical dynamic coding coordinates speech comprehension in the brain(Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 2025)Send us a text! Thanks for listening! In this intimate and wide-ranging conversation, Myrna sits down with her best friend Shain Jackson for a soulful exploration of love, art, healing, spirituality, and relationship—with all the honesty, laughter, and tenderness that only a lifelong friendship allows.Together, they reflect on how love shapes who we become, how trauma informs our relationships, and how learning to listen—to ourselves, to spirit, and to one another—is an ongoing practice. This episode weaves personal stories with deeper teachings about healing, creativity, and the role of art as a living, breathing expression of spiritual connection.Shain shares the vision behind his Story Booth Project, an initiative dedicated to creating physical recording spaces where Indigenous people can safely share and preserve their stories, teachings, and lived experiences for future generations. Rooted in respect, sovereignty, and cultural continuity, the project is both an act of preservation and a form of resistance. The conversation also touches on Shain's entrepreneurial and community-building work through Spirit Works, as well as his nonprofit Golden Eagle Rising, which centers Indigenous resurgence, creativity, and community care.At its heart, this episode is about love as a teacher—love in friendship, love in art, love in healing, and love as a spiritual force that guides us home to ourselves. This is a conversation for anyone navigating growth, grief, creativity, relationships, and the sacred work of becoming. To see Shain's work: www.spiritworks.ca and www.goldeneaglerising.org
