Modern supply chains are global, complex, and touch nearly everyone in some way — you're either part of the production process for a given commodity, a consumer of that product or service, or both. However, current supply chain practices fail to properly value our natural resources and the people working within them. Over the course of three episodes, you'll hear from a dozen experts who will explain why centering people is an effective strategy for large corporations to meet their supply chain sustainability goals. This first episode is focused on a key missing ingredient in most corporate plans: the voices of small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and their workers. Across any global supply chain, workers upstream and the small businesses they work for typically share one thing; a lack of representation and decision-making power when it comes to the buyers furthest downstream setting sustainability targets for the whole value chain. In fact, as Dan Viederman from the Working Capital Fund points out, there are more than 1,000,000,000 workers who don't make enough money from their jobs to support their livelihoods. While supply chains are increasingly more complex, a simple solution to improve them is by treating the most vulnerable workers better. This series — hosted, produced and edited by Daniel Baker — is funded by the Ares Charitable Foundation as part of their CREST Initiative; a 5-year career preparation and reskilling project that aims to close the gap between the demand for a skilled workforce for green jobs and the number of people prepared for these opportunities to build an equitable, low-carbon economy. As today's brands continue to seek ways to improve their customer loyalty programs, marketers and loyalty professionals are challenged to provide enhanced experiences and authentic personalization that can lead to greater brand affinity. Emotional loyalty is not built overnight; brands must commit to knowing their customers and preferences, leveraging the knowledge in the right way at the right time. This can be accomplished through customer data insights prioritizing personalization. Ernst & Young (EY) operates in over 150 countries, working through four integrated service lines — Assurance, Consulting, Strategy and Transactions, and Tax. The organization offers loyalty program services, partnering with brands so that they can cultivate deeper emotional connections with customers. EY's loyalty programs are designed to enhance customer retention and engagement, increase sales and encourage frequency, facilitate heightened brand awareness and referrals, and provide greater insights into customer data. EY's research concluded that 87% of consumers are at least somewhat comfortable sharing data. However, when EY surveyed corporate decision makers that have control over loyalty budgets and programming, personalization and data management capture were lower priorities for investment among companies. EY reports less than half — around 42% — said that they were focused on personalization and customized touch points. In this podcast, Mark Johnson, CEO of Loyalty360, spoke with Patricia Camden and Michael Anders, Loyalty Leaders for EY, about the state of customer loyalty, why personalization is the number one thing brands must focus on today, and how traditional loyalty programs focused on frequency and volume are giving away to more nuanced approaches that consider a customer's entire relationship with the brand.

A great leader is able to resiliently and bravely handle core challenges and address key obstacles, all while building a work culture of belonging, safety and trust. And having leaders who demonstrate true empathy has become far more important to employees in today's post-covid world. To explore what empathy in the workplace is today and how leaders must demonstrate it more fully and authentically, is our inspiring guest Raj Sharma from Ernst & Young. Raj is the Vice Chair at Ernst & Young (EY) Consulting. His 25 years of experience in commercial and financial services has helped him become a global business executive and transformative technology leader, building businesses and executing strategic growth initiatives worldwide. He now leads over 25,000 consultants across the Americas service line. In our conversation, we explore the importance of empathy in leadership by examining EY's recent study on empathy in business. We learn about the most compelling results from the study and what motivated EY to do this research in the first place, how their findings can help other leaders, and what our guest thinks about empathy overall. Discussing the research findings that over 50% of employees don't see real empathy at work, Raj explains how empathy can lead to innovation and accountability and how you can improve actionable empathy in your own workplace. We discuss his 5 steps for becoming a great leader and what Raj finds most challenging about managing such a large workforce. Finally, we explore the idea that leaders aren't just “born” – there is a great deal of work, commitment and self-mastery required in becoming a highly effective leader and manager. To learn more about empathy and its critical role in sustaining a successful organization, don't miss today's show.

Welcome back! We recently surveyed our alumni, asking about topics for our annual virtual leadership panel. We cover a variety of leadership topics during these panels, but the two most popular topics centered around career management and work/life balance. We have a special 2-episode podcast series featuring three great alumni stretching back all the way back to 2004. Melodie Nye is a former Air Force Intelligence Officer who transitioned in 2010 and launched her career at Kraft Foods as an Associate Product Director. She is currently a Senior Marketing Director at Mars Petcare. Carl Case is a former Navy Surface Warfare Officer (Nuclear) who transitioned in 2010 and launched his career at Ernst and Young (EY) as a Senior Consultant. He is currently a Partner at EY and leads the Financial Crimes Compliance Technology Practice. Mike DeBock is a former Army Aviation Officer who transitioned in 2004 and launched his career at NextEra Energy as a Procurement/Commodity Leader and is now the Executive President for Business Development and Digital Transformation at NextEra Energy. In this first episode, we hear Melodie, Carl and Mike give helpful advice and perspective on the following questions: Why do you think career management is the number one topic that Cameron-Brooks alumni wanted to hear more about? What does a “Five year career map'' look like and how do you create it? Looking back at your career, what are the 2-3 pivotal investments or decisions that you made that others may benefit from. How should people be thinking about getting an MBA? Stay tuned for the second half of our leadership panel conversation in two weeks. In the meantime, to stay connected, we encourage you to check out our website, YouTube Channel, follow us on LinkedIn.
Welcome back to another installment of our Conference Alumni Series. On this episode we hear from 4 recent Cameron-Brooks alumni who attended the November 2021 Career Conference share their conference experience. We really like bringing these conversations to you. It is one of our attempts to try and remove uncertainty from the transition process and ultimately give you confidence through this process. And what was really remarkable about the November 2021 Career Conference was that 77.8% of all interviews at the Conference resulted in the pursuit. That means that after the interview, the company expressed interest in having another interview. That is the highest pursuit rate in the 50+ year history of Cameron-Brooks! There are multiple factors that contribute to such an impressive conference result, but one of the key reasons is that the officers who attended the Career Conference were prepared to meet hiring managers in Corporate America. On this episode, you will meet: Natalie Snyder, a former Army Engineer officer who accepted an offer from KeyBank as a Client Success Process Engineer Alex Wheelon, a former Air Force Civil Engineer officer who accepted an offer from PROCEPT BioRobotics an an Operational Project Manager Mitch Heaton, a former Navy Nuclear Power (Submarines) officer who accepted an offer at NextEra Energy as a Project Engineer Adriel Paderanga, a former Army Quartermaster officer who accepted an offer from Ernst & Young (EY) as a Senior Consultant They fielded a number of questions from the webcast attendees including: During the interviews, did you get a good feel of which companies would likely give you an offer? How were the job offers structured? What was the follow up process like? Did you hit interview fatigue during the Conference? Interview best practices at the Conference? What percentage of your interviews were more conversational and how did you approach them? Pro tips on conversational interviews? How do you handle more structured interviews? How did you manage the “uniqueness” of a virtual conference? How did you balance accepting an offer in a timely manner vs. completing other interviews? What were your in-person interviews like, especially in light of the COVID environment? How do you get a good feel for a company's culture, especially if you didn't go onsite? Did you have enough time to research companies and prepare for interviews at the Conference? Did your interviews align with your location preferences, salary expectations and the types of positions that you were looking for? What else did you do to prepare for the Conference? I hope the unique perspective from our alumni about their conference experience gives you confidence as you are preparing for your transition. But what exactly is neurodiversity, and how can hiring neurodiverse employees benefit your organization? Neurodiversity is an aspect of diversity that enhances the workplace in numerous ways.To drive sustainable growth in the 21st century, businesses need to continually innovate and identify new sources of talent. Leading companies are finding that people on the autism spectrum and other neurodivergent people can spur innovation and often have the very skills they're looking for. Companies are also discovering new benefits for their brands, customer relationships, employee engagement, and more.Despite this fact, fewer than one in six autistic adults is in full-time employment. Only 32% are in some kind of paid work. More than three-quarters (77%) who are unemployed say they want to work.Possibly no company in the world is doing a better job at attracting neurodivergent talent to drive innovation than Ernst & Young, EY. Our guest Hiren Shukla, Automation & Innovation/Neuro-Diverse Center of Excellence Leader at EY, is one of the world's foremost experts on our topic.Hiren is an inclusive leader driving innovation across emerging digital technologies and unlocking talent as the founder of EYs Neuro-Diverse Centers of Excellence. He also appeared on CBS 60 Minutes in July featuring EY initiatives for the second year in a row. In the eighteenth episode of The Power of Good Intentions, Aliou Sidibe dives into the story of Brandon Lyons who is a the first ever Full-Time Resident Hand Cyclist in Team USA History. Team USA Profile: “Following graduation from Penn State University in 2012, Brandon Lyons began his career with the professional services firm of Ernst & Young (EY) in the greater Washington, D.C. area. During his first year as a consultant for the Big 4 firm, Lyons was recognized as the Supply Chain Rookie of the Year. His professional career was off to a great start, but that would quickly change. On May 24, 2014, Lyons dove into shallow water breaking his T5/T6 vertebrae and leaving him paralyzed from the chest down. Lyons quickly took on this new challenge and returned to work at EY just four months after his accident, and even completed a marathon just five months after the date of his injury. He relocated to San Diego in 2016 to be closer to an advanced rehabilitation gym, which is where he found his passion for handcycling. He was introduced to former Ironman world champion David Bailey, and the two would ride the coast of southern California together as Bailey pushed Lyons to go faster. In March 2017, Lyons would be invited to a tryout at the Colorado Springs Olympic Training Center to earn a spot in the residence program. Lyons was awarded a spot as the first handcyclist in the residence program and would relocate to Colorado Springs, Colorado exactly three years after the date of his injury on May 24, 2017. Lyons made his first national team in 2019 and continues to work for EY.” In today's episode, we talked about the challenges he faced and the mindset that helped him overcome those challenges. How can you use the tools of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and data analytics in a best practices compliance program. Vincent M. Walden, a partner at Alvarez and Marsal (A&M), wrote an article entitled “Profit & Loss-of-One” (P&L-of-One) where he detailed how he and his then colleagues at Ernest & Young (EY) worked in conjunction with the General Electric (GE) compliance function to “improve compliance by using forensic data analytics to provide behavioral insights to their compliance program.” They did this through the innovative use of “digital twins” which Walden described as “digital replicas of physical assets that organizations can use for multiple purposes such as the maintenance of power generation equipment, jet engines and heavy machinery. The innovation demonstrated through the P&L-of-One shows how the digital transformation of compliance through true operationalization will not only burn compliance into the fabric of an organization but illustrates how more robust compliance can make a company run more efficiently and, at the end of the day, more profitably. Walden concludes by stating, “The compliance vision of the future seeks to further move compliance towards a more proactive, advocacy role, which helps organizations by providing needed communications, trainings and responses in an automated, intriguing and relevant fashion. This is the compliance vision of the future and what the authors call the P&L-of-One.” Three Key Takeaways: The inspiration of this innovation in compliance came from manufacturing. Test through a pilot program. Making your messaging automated, intriguing and relevant.

It seems the next competitive battleground lies in experiences. The experience has become the relevant unique selling point that is decisive for the success of a company. Today’s most important companies are Experience Companies. Brands such as Apple, Amazon or Tesla have the highest revenues, strong customer loyalty and prevail in the war for talent because they are at the heart of major value-adding ecosystems. In order to thrive in the Experience Economy, businesses, regardless of their size, must first embrace digital transformation. But while digital transformation is an important agenda for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), significant challenges still remain across Southeast Asia. According to an Ernst & Young (EY) report, across ASEAN, digitalization programs remain largely unaligned with the broader enterprise strategy. The top three challenges regional SMEs face are a lack of access to digital talent, pressure to focus on the short-term benefits of digitalization, and digital risks. To talk us through it is Dieter Weisshaar, CEO of Easy Software, a leading company in open source business software.

Ernst & Young (EY) recognized the potential of this talented workforce and started a neurodiversity program which employs candidates on the autistic spectrum. Stewart Goodson, Executive Director of Tax with Ernst & Young (EY) joined us for this episode of Life In Accounting: The Where Accountants Go podcast to discuss how EY is using robotics! Early Background Stewart knew after the first day in his high school accounting course that this would be his career path. After high school, Stewart worked full-time and went to UTSA full-time. Upon graduation he joined EY because he liked the people and the culture, and he has been at EY ever since. He enjoyed working with the clients and he knew he wanted to focus on tax. Since 2000 he has been in the role of Executive Director. Setting a Path When computers were becoming common place, Stewart saw that this was going to be a valuable tool so he became the tax department's technology champion. The firm decided to put in a network, and while he wasn't a computer programmer, Stewart knew how to ask the right questions and this led to his team doing the initial design. Robotics! EY has been involved with robotics for about three years. It all began with data analytics. Two of the key systems that EY uses are Blue Prism and Automation Anywhere. These are software programs that are used to perform certain repetitive tasks that don't require critical thinking skills. Robotics are increasingly being used for internal processes that involve administrative tasks, and external client processes such as in the sales tax field. Soon robotics will be used more expansively in auditing as well. Since bots can focus on outliers, it will be very helpful in the audit realm. Recommendation for Students College provides you with a great foundation, but in addition you should learn as much as you can about data analytics and how/why it is used. Leadership skills are also key – make sure you develop them as well. Volunteering is a great way to develop these skills. For more information on the organization that Stewart volunteers with and mentioned in the podcast, please click here to visit their website: Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of San Antonio Have a great week! There's more to come…
