Send us a textOn this Divine Mercy Sunday we reflect on the Gospel passage of doubting Thomas. Thomas has such difficulty believing in the risen Lord that he says he must touch Jesus' wounds to believe. In that doubt, the Lord meets Thomas where he is at to help him come to believe. Our Lord is loving and merciful in a way we cannot comprehend. Let us celebrate this merciful love especially on this feast day!Abundantly Yours: Shop at abundantlyyours.org and follow her @abundantly.yours on Instagram. We are so quick to fast and pray and sacrifice in Lent, but often when Easter comes around and we feast again that divine intimacy with Jesus can fade. Send us a textToday we're praying with Luke 24:13–35, the story of the road to Emmaus. We reflect on the beauty of walking with Jesus—even when we don't yet recognize Him—and the powerful moment of recognition in the breaking of the bread. This passage reminds us of how important it is to invite Jesus into our homes and our hearts, just like the disciples did. It's a moving metaphor for the Eucharist: when we welcome Him in, He reveals Himself in the most intimate, transformative way.Story of Salvation Bible Study LinkJanuary Jane Shop: January Jane shop sells gorgeous collections of vintage prints and lifestyle products. Send us a textWelcome to Day 2 of our Daily Nothings Octave series! Meghan and Courtney are back, diving into the Gospel passage from Matthew 28: 8-15. Today, we're reflecting on the powerful moment when the women at the tomb are fearful yet overjoyed—a feeling many of us know all too well in our Catholic journey. It's a beautiful reminder that our faith often calls us to hold both fear and joy together, especially in moments of great change and transformation. Join us as we explore how this paradox is such a big part of being Catholic, and how we can live it out in our daily lives.Abundantly Yours: Shop at abundantlyyours.org and follow her @abundantly.yours on Instagram. In this week's episode, we reflect on suffering and love. We all have deep and tender places in our hearts where we suffer. Sometimes we feel alone in these sorrows and because of this, turn inwards into our pain. But the reality is, we are never alone in our suffering; God is always with us. We also reflect on fear in suffering, suffering in isolation vs suffering in communion, and how to allow God's light to shine into these sorrowful places. Journal Questions: What suffering am I running from? Take some time to identify your current fears. How can you let these fears bring you into an encounter with Love Himself? Do I have a friend I can invite into my suffering? How can I be present to her suffering as well? How has Jesus transformed injury into compassion in my life? Discussion Questions: Are you suffering in communion or in isolation? How can you suffer more like Jesus in this season? What habits in your spiritual toolbox protect your heart in moments of suffering and desolation? How can you love well when your heart is broken? Quote to Ponder: “What really hurts is not so much suffering itself as the fear of suffering. If welcomed, trustingly and peacefully, suffering makes us grow. It matures and trains us, purifies us, teaches us to love unselfishly, makes us poor in heart, humble, gentle and compassionate toward our neighbor. Fear of suffering, on the other hand, hardens us in self protective defensive attitudes and often leads us to make irrational choices with disastrous consequences.” (Interior Freedom, Fr. Jacques Philippe) Scripture for Lectio: “For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted; a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; a time to throw away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; a time to seek, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to throw away; a time to tear, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; a time to love, and a time to hate; a time for war, and a time for peace” (Ecclesiastes 3:1-8) Sponsor - Laura-Anne: The world wants you to believe that marriage is little more than an exchange of “I do.” But this Sacrament is worth preparing for—and commemorating—with intention. I've been hinting at this episode for a while, and it's finally here! Join us for an in-depth conversation about mental health (or the lack thereof) in the Harry Potter series. We explore the challenge of separating the art from the artist, especially in light of the author's controversial views on equity. Our discussion covers how we suppress our "magic," battle imposter syndrome, navigate self-worth, and much more. These beloved books have been our favorites since childhood, and it was a joy to gather with friends to discuss them. We also connected with fellow Potter fans to hear their personal stories, the series' impact on their lives, and their insights on mental health. Enjoy the episode! Many fantasy authors draw from history to shape their worlds and inform their worldbuilding choices. Where do you draw the line between hewing to the record and just using it for inspiration? How much do accuracy and authenticity matter? And, when those research rabbit holes are so very alluring, how do you make yourself stop? Guest Laura Anne Gilman joins us to talk about the various ways to approach historical research and integrate it into your worldbuilding, as well as what to do with the many, many tidbits of knowledge that end up in your head, taking up space. From antiquated toilets to questionably decorated tapestries, this episode explores some gloriously weird historical tidbits! Transcript for Episode 89 (tk!) Our Guest: Laura Anne Gilman is the author of more than twenty novels, including the Nebula award-nominated The Vineart War trilogy and the award-winning Devil's West series from Saga Press/ Simon & Schuster. Her forthcoming projects include the Gilded Age historical fantasy, UNCANNY TIMES (October 2022), and a series of paranormal romance novellas focusing on non-traditional partners, starting with SOMETHING PERFECT. She has also dipped her pen into the mystery field, writing as L.A. Kornetsky (Collared, Fixed, Doghouse, and Clawed).
Laura Anne Gilman's new novel, UNCANNY TIMES, takes place in upstate New York in 1913. She talks about the challenges of writing historical fantasy, especially women, and the creation of her new series, The Huntsmen.
Laura Anne Gilman is a delightfully prolific author with a bent for the detective story, the noir in any setting from fantasy, sci fi, historic fiction - you name it. Urban supernatural sleuths chase elusive (and sometimes equally supernatural) victims and perps alike through history and fantasy, and Laura Anne's world building immerses the reader deep within her vision. Her latest book, Uncanny Times, is coming out shortly and we can't wait to read it! … Continue...Episode 163 – Interview with Laura Anne Gilman

Laura Anne Harris is a solo performer whose latest show, "Destiny USA," is based on her experiences working as a relay operator for the deaf and hard of hearing. The conversations she heard from strangers across America were at times beautiful, and at times infuriating. Trump says he knows "Real America"? Well, Laura heard it. Also in this episode: how "Nanette" is creating space for more women solo performers, what it's like to be forced to repeat racist remarks on-the-job, and why Glenn Weiss' proposal at the Emmys was...kind of a dick move.
The show is funny, smart, progressive, feminist, positive, and often heartwarming. The show showcases the best comedians in Portland along with national acts and is hosted by Barbara Holm. If you're here, it's likely that you have, at some point in your life, felt the nudge of your soul calling you to explore deeper and ask the bigger questions. This soul inquiry process often starts out gentle – like a small quiet whisper – but eventually it gets louder and more urgent. What this can often lead to is a stripping away, crumbling or destruction of all that no longer serves us. Often we drop into a period of unknown mystery. A time when we are no longer the person we once were but who we are to become is yet to make itself known to us. I like to think of these periods as stripping for the soul. A process of removing all the layers we have outgrown. These times can be wild, erotic and empowering or they can feel awkward, uncomfortable and very vulnerable. This interview catches Laura Anne Page three years into a period of soul stripping or, what she refers to as, journeying into the soul underworld. Intrinsically tied to Laura's story is her former name Shakti Sunfire. A name which she used for over 10 years to promote her gifts as a hoop dancer, yoga instructor, movement educator, and mentor for women, amongst many other things. This is the first time Laura has spoken publicly about the journey of returning to her birth name and what this has meant for her business, her intimate relationships and for her soul. If you're in a period of mystery, if you're feeling called to strip away all the identities and labels you've placed on yourself, if you're feeling lost and confused about where to head to next, this is the interview for you. In this interview, Laura shares: + Her three-year journey with exploring the unknown mysteries of her soul and why letting go of the name Shakti Sunfire has been paramount in this exploration. + The resistance and fears that showed up when she felt the call to explore deeper, including issues within her relationships and discomfort in her career. + Why the story that has come before now – however this story may look for you – is sacred and deserves to be honoured. + Why being in the mystery of the unknown is maginalised in our society and why it's important to honour these dark, unknown voids in our life, even when others around us might not understand. + Her personal inquiry process for tuning into the voice and wisdom of your soul. + Why she believes all of us have special soul gifts to offer the world.
