This weekend, Portland-based stand-up comedian Mohanad Elshieky, was pulled out of a Greyhound bus by US Customs and Border Patrol agents and asked for his paper. Border Patrol has the authority to conduct such searches within 100 miles of the border. But last fall, the Spokane City Council passed an ordinance barring Border Patrol from entering the public spaces of the transit center. Spokane City Council member Breean Beggs tells us why that ordinance was deemed necessary.
