Griffin Whitmer spoke this past Monday with Rutgers Baseball Head Coach Steve Owens to recap the Scarlet Knights' 2023 opening season series against Campbell in North Carolina. As Rutgers dropped the first two games against the Fighting Camels this past weekend, the Knights roared back to take the third and final game of the showdown with a 16-3 victory at Jim Perry Stadium. Coach Owens went in-depth on the mistakes the team made, but also how the program fixed their issues when it bounced back on Sunday afternoon in the 13 run win. Coach Jason Owens, In this episode, you'll hear from Coach Jason Owens. Coach Owens is currently an Assistant Coach for Coach Jared Phay at Missouri State University-West Plains. Coach Owens joined the West Plains Coaching staff in the Summer of 2020. As you soon will hear, I have known Coach Owens since he was a little guy - actually when Coach Owens was seven years old. Jason's Dad, Coach Derrick Owens, is a hall of fame coach in Michigan - winning four State Championships and coaching countless players to college. After 17 years as an assistant coach Jack Owens finally got the opportunity to lead his own program.  However right before he began his head coaching journey, he lost his father, the man who had been cheering him on his whole life.  Coach Owens has went on to turn Miami University basketball around.

Guest: Jack Owens, Miami University Basketball Head CoachIn this week’s basketball coaching conversation, Miami University head coach Jack Owens joins the Basketball Podcast to discuss building a program and transition and half-court defense.Jack Owens is the current head coach at the University of Miami Ohio. He was hired in 2018 and began to make a positive impact immediately. In his first season, Miami won 16 games and made their first post-season appearance in nearly a decade. He has continued to build the program by having a top recruiting class in the MAC conference. Throughout the past two seasons, he has helped develop that talent into All-conference players while having success in the MAC conference.Before Miami Owens was an assistant and an associate head coach at Purdue. He was a part of the staff for nine years over the course of 2008-2017. During this time, Purdue averaged 23 wins a year and was consistently a top 25 ranked team. Coach Owens was heavily involved with the development of a number of NBA draft picks. Some of the most notable names Owens helped develop are Carsen Edwards, Caleb Swanigan, Aj Hammons, and Robbie Hummel.Jack Owens also was an assistant coach at Southern Illinois for 5 years. In his time there he helped lead the team to a 25-5 record and multiple NCAA Tournament berths. Owens also coached SIU to an NCAA Sweet 16 which is the furthest in the program's history.Owens has an incredible track record in his young coaching career. This includes 14 postseason appearances, 11 NCAA Tournament berths, and 4 trips to the Sweet 16. On Episode 38, I had a chance to sit and speak with Andre Owens, Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach at Sam Houston State University. Coach Owens spent some time as a head coach, played collegiately at The University of Texas at San Antonio, played professionally in Germany and Turkey, and has had a journey full of valuable life lesson which he passes along to his athletes. Freddie Owens is an assistant basketball coach at Loyola University in Maryland. Coach Owens was previously a star player for the University of Wisconsin and, over recent years, he's gained a reputation as an outstanding coach in his stops at multiple colleges. Even as he has moved around to coaching positions throughout the country, Coach Owens has maintained a deep commitment to his hometown, Milwaukee. Most notably, he started the Milwaukee Coaches Association, who develops and supports coaches in the city. With the sudden increase in Covid-19 Cases, the NCAA decided to cancel all 2019-2020 Winter Championships and all 2020 Spring Sports. Mike Owens, head baseball coach at South Portland High School, talks baseball with John, Michael and newcomer Jason Maxwell. Coach Owens talks about his career as a player, his current team and his coaching philosophy. One of the great coaches in high school baseball today, Coach Owens talks about the importance of building relationships with players in order to teach them how to be young men through the game of baseball.

This week we speak with coach Owens. Coach Owens was a successful college athlete and then spent time as an assistant coach at two high profile Division 1 junior Colleges in Utah and Arizona. He spent a number of years as an assistant coach at the NCAA Division 1 level, and then he moved on and became a head coach of an NAIA program. He has now assumed the head coaching role at an elite high school program in the state of Arkansas.

Ashland University (AU) Head Football Coach Lee Owens took some time to talk with the Pigskin Podcast. Coach Owens is practically a legend in the North Central Ohio area. He graduated from Madison High School, lead Galion to a State Title in 1985, and has done a phenomenal job at AU.
