From 'Play Tessie' (subscribe here): In this bonus episode, Sammy proposes a Who Says No trade to Gordo and Pat which sees the Red Sox adding a flame thrower to their bullpen in the Twins' Jhoan Duran. Not only would the bullpen be addressed, but a package would have an old friend return to the backup catcher need the Sox have. Would Minnesota bring back Kutter Crawford for Duran and Christian Vazquez or could there be another Twins' arm that would draw more interest? Send us a textThe Minnesota Twins go to Tampa and leave with a split against the Rays and maintain their lead in the wild-card standings, which has David and Dan looking ahead a bit at the playoffs. With that comes many questions: Will Byron Buxton and Carlos Correa be back? Would the Twins rather play the Astros or the Yankees? But more currently, David and Dan agree that the Twins didn't look great against the Rays defensively, though they disagree over the performance of Louie Varland in Game 3. David wonders whether Christian Vazquez needs to go back to Grand Slam or Triple Play, while Dan discusses the value of Eddy Julien to this team the rest of the year. Send us a Text Message. On the heels of a frustrating loss a couple days earlier, the Minnesota Twins throw away Game 2 of a series with the San Diego Padres and end up winning just one of three where David and Dan are quite sure the Twins could have left with another victory. They place the blame pretty squarely at the feet of manager Rocco Baldelli, whose bullpen management was cautious at best during the middle game. David, though, has heaps of praise for the turnaround of Christian Vazquez, and Dan has a film comparison for seemingly everything David has to say. They discuss the strong performance by Austin Martin, a better showing from Eddy Julien and another monster home run from Matt Wallner. They look around the league at the retirement of a Cincinnati Reds staple and at the resurgence of those darn Houston Astros. Send us a Text Message.By dominating the Kansas City pitching staff (at least for two games), the Minnesota Twins take two of three from the rival Royals in a rare late-season meaningful series between the two AL Central clubs. David and Dan recap the solid pitching performances, which includes the MLB debut of Zebby Matthews. Dan heaps praise on the young starter (and the farm system that developed him), while David reserves his adoration for the improved play of Max Kepler, who had a fine series in right and at the plate. They look at the significance of Byron Buxton's latest ailment, of Kyle Farmer's return and of the role Christian Vazquez has settled into. They look around the league at a resurgent NL West, a new landing place for a former Twins player and a milestone for a Yankees slugger. Send us a Text Message. The Minnesota Twins break their streak of series victories dropping two of three to the San Francisco Giants at Oracle Park. Andrew "Hoges" Hoganson fills in for Dan Thompson and tries his best to be the voice of reason. The boys discuss the news that Willi Castro has been named an all-star, as well as a fan's request in exchange for Carlos Santana's HR ball which completed his journey of hitting a home run in all 30 active MLB stadiums. Hoges is worried Rocco and the front office are getting too cutesy with their roster in attempting to use the All-Star break to their advantage, and David is furious at the role being filled by Christian Vazquez. The guys have some choice words for Manny Margot's play in game 3 and they discuss the current health struggles on the roster and the looming trade deadline. They finish up with news from around the MLB and make their picks for the upcoming Milwaukee Brewers series. Thanks for listening, and as always, go Twins! Send us a Text Message.Dan joins David in studio for this episode, which looks back at the Minnesota Twins' series victory over the visiting Houston Astros. Dan is upset still that Rocco Baldelli didn't do more to try to win what turned out to be a wild loss in Game 1, whereas David has more reason and patience for the manager's choices. They discuss the record-setting series from Jose Miranda in which he recorded hits in 12 consecutive at-bats, and they also admire the play of rookie Brooks Lee and veteran catcher Christian Vazquez. Carlos Correa appears to be OK after taking a baseball to the right hand -- well enough to play Monday and then, hopefully, in the All-Star Game next week. They look down the Green Line to a familiar face who was playing in St. Paul this weekend, and they make their picks for the next series. The Twins didn't let some difficult Royce Lewis news get them down, as they rallied to beat the Royals 5-1 at Kauffman Stadium on Saturday. Joe Ryan was terrific, Byron Buxton had a pair of doubles and three RBI and Christian Vazquez erased a double-play grounder with a big hit and a big throw-out of Bobby Witt Jr. on the bases. In this edition of Locked On Twins, Brandon (@Brandon_Warne) and Dave (@answerdavebrown) break all of this down, as well as provide some info on a former Twins pitcher who was hit HARD on Saturday in his debut with another team.Follow & Subscribe on all Podcast platforms…

Locked On Giants – Daily Podcast On The San Francisco Giants
Scratch Brandon Nimmo off the list. The list of potential free-agent targets for the San Francisco Giants is growing smaller by the day. At this point, if the SF Giants want to make a major free-agent hitter addition, they'll need to sign either Carlos Correa or Dansby Swanson. Swanson's bat is a bit iffy, but he's young, athletic, fast, and a good defender. Correa seems to be the real prize, but ESPN's Buster Olney reports that the Yankees may be involved in the bidding. If New York makes a hard push for Correa, the Giants could be in trouble. While the SF Giants might be able to bully a team like the Twins financially, they wouldn't necessarily be able to do so with the Yankees. And after adding Judge, the Yanks are a far more desirable destination for a free-agent hitter like Correa. If the Giants miss out on all of the top free agent hitters that were of interest to them, it would be quite the disappointment and failure—although not necessarily for lack of trying. There are other options, however, on the trade market. The downside there is that they would have to part with young talent in order to swing a trade, whereas with free agents the only cost is cash. Alek Thomas, Jake McCarthy, Daulton Varsho, Bryan Reynolds, Dylan Carloson, and Ramón Laureano stand out as some possible San Francisco Giants outfield trade targets. All are young, athletic, and would be an upgrade for the Giants.Speaking of trade possibilities, the Giants traded for Rule 5 pick Blake Sabol recently. He is a left-handed-hitting outfielder and catcher, and by virtue of being a Rule 5 pick, he has to be on the 26-man roster all season or else be offered back to the Pittsburgh Pirates. The SF Giants have Joey Bart and Austin Wynns already on the 40-man and projected to the major league roster, so the acquisition of Sabol is noteworthy. We continue to hear reports that the Giants are interested in a catching upgrade, with Oakland's Sean Murphy and the Toronto Blue Jays' trio of talented catchers the most obvious trade targets. Christian Vazquez, who, like Carlos Correa, is from Puerto Rico, has also been linked to the Giants.Find and follow Locked On Giants on your favorite podcast platforms:
Should the Cardinals roll the dice on Willson Contreras? Should they hold to their defensive wishes at catcher? NBC Sports Chicago baseball writer Gordon Wittenmyer joins St. Louis Post-Dispatch baseball writer Derrick Goold to discuss the direction the Cardinals could go at catcher, including the former Cubs backstop. Plus, a discussion on NL Central competition and rising payrolls, and how the Cardinals can aim higher than a division chocked with rebuilding teams. They can play at the $25 tables. Oh, and Wittenmyer plays the slots. Whether it was the setting (Las Vegas), the proximity to the World Series, or the firsrt chance for executives and agents to meet after the cancellation of the 2021 MLB Winter Meetings, this year's GM Meetings had a different vibe. It was active. Or, at least, it felt like a prelude to action. The Cardinals went looking for options at catcher, and came away with a better sense of the trade market and a conversation with at least the representatives for free-agent Christian Vazquez.
