POPULARITY
Deathcakes re-establishes its presence in 2020 by going back to one of the pillars of its past: cartoons! By the mid-90s though, Saturday morning blocks were all but gone, partly due to the inception of Turner Broadcasting's new cable offering known as Cartoon Network. Jay and illy are back to guide you through their memory of its beginnings, to its eventual, indelible mark on American pop culture. Intro Music: "The Breakfast Club" by Z-Trip (feat. Murs) / Background Music: "Old School" by DangerDoom / Outro Music: "Back To The Lab Again" by Prince Paul (feat. Wordsworth)
When Jay, illy and Ghost (then known as Rokmore, in a special guest spot) linked up in an early episode of Deathcakes to talk Wu-Tang, they had no idea at the time that the Keepers of the Funk podcast and the advent of No Jibba-Jabba FM were on the horizon. They certainly didn't predict Wu-Tang: An American Saga to hit Hulu! Now that all three scenarios have come to pass, the three hosts join up yet again in search of some Shaolin graffiti and to weigh in on the docu-drama (spoiler alert: they LOVE it!) Outro Music: "Wu-Tang: 7th Chamber Pt. II"

With Stranger Things 3 having been available for months now (seriously, anyone who was gonna watch, has seen it!), the guys freely discuss the series. This, of course, breaks the Deathcakes 80's-90's mandate... or does it?? Intro Music: "Stranger" and Outro Music: "Lucas", by Mega-Ran -- megaranmusic.com
Saturday morning cartoons - and after-school toons, to a lesser extent - are the heart and soul of Deathcakes, but what about the programming that aired on Sunday and weekday mornings? illy brings Jay along for a quick list of theme music from that lesser-remembered and often strange lineup of syndicated shows. Intro/Outro Music: "Syndicated Inc.", by Weird Al Yankovic / Background Music: "Double Dragons", by Fat Tony & Tom Cruz -- fattonyrap.com
Deathcakes goes back to its roots, to the very heart and soul of the Podcast: Saturday Morning Cartoons. But while Jay and illy are here to dig deeper into the seemingly endless lineup of 80s and 90s toons, they are soon sidetracked by another morning mainstay in the form of old school breakfast cereals, and the shadowy Ice Cream Jones! Intro Music: "Games and Cartoons" by Sammus -- sammusmusic.com / Background Music by DJ Tee -- djtee1.bandcamp.com
STOP THE PRESS!! Jay has been reading DC COMICS(?!!!??!) In this first edition of I Mini The Fool (recorded June 10th) since the beginning of the year, well, there's more comic talk (no joke, Jay has been reading DC!), gaming talk, Jay's and illy's opinions of Wonder Woman, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Logan, and other random updates on what the guys have been up to, since the last time you heard em on the Graffiti Bridge episode of Deathcakes.

On the fiftieth episode of Deathcakes, which just so happens to land shortly beyond the one year anniversary of the death of Prince, Jay & illy throw back a few and pay tribute(...?) to the fallen icon by watching 1990's "Graffiti Bridge", the oft-maligned and probably better off forgotten sequel to the cult classic that was "Purple Rain". Prince fan and friend of the Network, Ryan Warnberg (Minneapolis native and host of Bodega Box Office), lays down his funky weapon, joins them on the pod and adds his brand of film enthusiasm and a bit of hometown spin to the discussion!
[I Mini The Fool/Deathcakes Simulcast]In this first edition of I Mini The Fool 2.0 for 2017, Jay & illy bring No Jibba-Jabba FM back from its programming sabbatical with a look back at their entertainment and pop culture interests and highlights from the previous year. How did 2016 stack up against 2015? Contrary to the widespread belief that 2016 sucked, the guys both personally had it much better this time around. In the final segment, however, they switch into Deathcakes attire and pay tribute to the fallen celebrity icons of their childhood. Music by Hannibal King -- hannibalking.bandcamp.com / Intermission/Outro Music: "The Year In Gaming 2016" by Mega-ran -- megaranmusic.com

[Endcap, Pt. 2 of 2 - Recorded one night after SummerSlam] Having already named his favorite entrance themes from the late 80s/early 90s in a past episode (see Deathcakes, Episode 20.5), illy adds several more from the late 90s and modern-day to round out his list, while Jay listens. illy then releases some World Wrestling Ventilation regarding the SummerSlam PPV and some of the mishaps of WWE creative he's witnessed over the past few months, praises NXT, and ultimately invites anyone who's been away from wrestling to come back and give the current product a shot. Words from a born-again wrestling fan, in the finale of DCP Rasslin! Music by Stretch Money -- youtube.com/StretchMoneyy / Outro Music: "Run" by Mega Ran (feat. Murs) -- megaranmusic.com

Move over, Mr. T! Just as MTV back in the day would morph temporarily into "MJTV" and preempt their regular programming with any and everything Michael Jackson-related whenever he dropped a new album, No Jibba-Jabba FM follows suit in this episode of Deathcakes as the guys revisit the 1988 anthology film, "Moonwalker"! Intro Music: "Enjoy Yourself" by Mega-Ran -- megaranmusic.com
The DCP crew converses with illy’s friend Iris, who shares her past experiences pulling double duty as a recording artist and record label CEO, to her current endeavors as an assistant director to several upcoming web series. All that, plus the usual Deathcakes-certified throwback conversation!
Our special guests for this ep chose The Fat Boys in DISORDERLIES. Keepers of The Funk is a proper hip hop podcast and Deathcakes is an 80's 90's pop culture podcast, and we got members of both crews in to record this ep. Its crazy, but so is the damn movie. We'll be posting the music part as a separate episode next week. Enjoy!

[Pure Premium Pulp Film #1 of 5] At LONG LAST, Deathcakes goes back to the program with a block of '80s and '90s movies, which were adapted from pulp series of the early/mid-1900s! Jay & illy start things off by going back into the Dino de Laurentiis (of Red Sonja "fame") catalog with 1980's "Flash Gordon". Music by DJ Tee -- youtube.com/djteebeats / djtee1.bandcamp.com / Outro: "Terminator X to the Edge of Panic" by Public Enemy
En route to another stop on his Forever Famicom Anniversary tour, Deathcakes catches up with none other than Mega Ran himself to talk about said tour, his musical beginnings and future projects coming down the pike. But of course, no DCP conversation would be complete without The Question, and a couple shots of nostalgia! Be sure to check NoJibbaJabbaFM.com and megaranmusic.com for additional showdates. Intermissions: "Artillery" (w/ Storyville), "World Tree" / Outro: "Enjoy Yourself (For MJ)"
This third installment highlights three PBS-related episodes (Episode 5, 5.5 and 12). One would think that conversations about Sesame Street and The Letter People would evoke the lighter side of early childhood.... however, this is Deathcakes and Jay & illy see these shows through quite the different lens!
It's May, the Deathcakes anniversary month, and the title says it all: Jay and illy are spending the next few episodes giving commentary and random facts about past moments in the podcast's history. In this one, it's a megamix of all the great cartoon music they'd compiled in five earlier minisodes!
Jay returns to a familar Deathcakes topic with another handful of great, nostalgic cartoon theme music from the 80s.
Deathcakes urges you to throw on your neon harem pants, lace up your British Knights and bring your best moves to the party, as illy keeps the 90's jams going with some uptempo hip-hop grooves in the mix!
One year later, they’re still goin strong. Jay and illy thank all the Deathcakes listeners, revisit past episodes, and continue to do what they do best: random banter about the high and low lights of yesterday (flowcharts, again, available upon request). Here’s to another year, and counting.
Toys! What better time than the holiday season to discuss a topic (suprisingly) absent from Deathcakes thus far? Jay and illy look back on the toys they loved most in their youth, the stuff they always wanted but never got… and throw a couple accusations at family members for things that mysteriously “came up missing”, or broken! Music by Tony Bacala & DJ Tee -- djtee1.bandcamp.com / youtube.com/djteebeats / Outro Music: ”He-Man” by Ludacris
Don’t adjust your RSS feed, Deathcakes is gone, replaced by I Pity The Fool Podcast. Jay and illy take a moment to look back at the first 9 episodes, talk about some of their favorite moments and correcting some mistakes made on past shows. They also shout out some of their listeners and twitter followers, and announce their first ever contest (check twitter and facebook for more details)! New sponsor, new name, same knuckleheads……and absolutely NO JIBBA JABBA!!!!
Deathcakes has the guts to spin the wheel and double dares ya to put on the hits (people, you don’t know the half!). From the popular to the obscure, from amazingly good to jaw-droppingly bad, Jay and illy run through a wild assortment of retro game show memories in this episode. No whammies! Outro Music: “Price Is Right” by A-1 -- soundcloud.com/adamraps
It all begins at that magic hour of 7pm… you guessed it: primetime television. From Cosby to Manimal (yes, Manimal), the duo run through many of their 80’s favorites, with a few 90’s programs as well. Plus, Jay shares his own recipe for the famous Bacon Burger Dawg… you won’t wanna miss! Outro music: “Family Matters” by A-1 -- soundcloud.com/adamraps
Deathcakes delivers another minisode as Jay gives you a countdown of six of his favorite anime opening themes.
Deathcakes returns from a brief hiatus to take you through the personal musical journeys of both hosts. Jay & illy discuss their early experiences with music in general and 80’s pop culture, then go into their discovery and love of hip-hop and favorite artists of the 80’s and 90’s eras. They also reminisce about Yo! MTV Raps, Columbia House Music Club, and Majic 108 (shout out to Kevy Kev!) Outro Music: Coolio - “I Remember” feat. Billy Boy & J-Ro
A film that partly inspired this podcast’s inception leads you to an episode that nearly caused its demise (illy could barely get through the movie; Jay almost quit the show… twice!) By picking apart one of the first black superhero flicks, The Meteor Man, Deathcakes takes the bullet (or perhaps, falls on the sword) so that every other retro entertainment/bad movie podcast out there won’t have to! Intro Music: “Hero Muzik” by Random AKA Mega Ran feat. Ilyas -- megaranmusic.com
Jay and illy drop straight into a conversation of their earliest childhood memories - no particular topic, just freestyling it (flowcharts are available by request!) What is the Great Heap? Who’s the toughest man in the world? Learn all that, and more in the pilot episode of Deathcakes. And Doctor John’s?… totally a chain of sex shops in Missouri. Intro music - “Big Kid Remix” by Doug Funnie -- dougfunnie.bandcamp.com
