Hi, everyone - we're back after what ended up being a VERY long April of... nonsense, to put it in a word. A break was needed and a break was had, and now we're back to our grind of anime... well, nonsense, again. But to come back after some time away, we have to take our time with the inundation of information on display, so this will be a bit of everything: the best and worst of the winter season (a month late), the announcement of STEEL BALL RUN being real, the Tenchi Muyo comic Kickstarter reaching its goal in barely any time at all, some free offerings on Pluto TV, the new Mamoru Hosoda movie getting BIG plans for its theatrical rollout, Toonami getting THINGS this coming weekend, and a good bit of home video releases coming out in the summer - including one very highly demanded release in the form of CHAINSAW MAN, AT LONG LAST, from... VIZ??? Because sure, why not? Also, yes, we're going to yell about the Crunchyroll Anime Awards nominations. Because it's easy pickings. intro - real-world kvetching and Sinners gushing 21:53 - the best and worst of winter ( 41:51 - once again, the CR Anime Awards nominees 1:30:15 - some news items of note (Steel Ball Run, Toonami additions, Tenchi Muyo comic Kickstarter, Scarlet/Columbia Pictures) 1:50:51 - a lot of upcoming home video releases (Anime Limited surprises, Wind Breaker, Call of the Night, Solo Leveling, Chainsaw Man) Tenchi Muyo Kickstarter - https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/armigerentertainment/tenchi-muyo-original-omnibus-edition Apple Podcasts – https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/podcastona/id1348141210?mt=2 Spotify – https://open.spotify.com/show/2JZLO3LfoeHepomejTw4TP iHeartRadio – https://www.iheart.com/podcast/256-podcastona-43099114/ TuneIn – https://tunein.com/podcasts/Podcasts/PodcastONA-p1249922/ As always, check out surrealresolution.com for more content, updates on the show, our continued news posts, reviews, and our fellow podcasts.

AT LONG LAST the GBGBs review the final movie in the Ryan Gosling season, Barbie (2023). The BTS for this review was a logistical nightmare but we were glad to wrap up the season on a high note with probably the most iconic movie of this decade. The Gos-man plays Ken, whose job is beach, and he also sings a song in an extended dance-off musical number near the end of the movie. If you haven't seen this movie yet, what are you even doing? Moreover, why do universities bend over backward to cater to 18-year-olds when the people who really matter are aging donors? Finally, in this episode: AT LONG LAST we learn what Sarah and Meghan were like in high school: Meghan was a writing and oboe prodigy who was borderline learning disabled in other areas, and Sarah was just a little too good at convincing people that assisted suicide is a good thing. In the bonus, the g*rls/wom*n discuss all of you who have hate-subscribed just to spite us, answer some premium subscriber questions, and ask if universities fail their missions when they are politically motivated.Relevant LinksWhy Conservatives Must Not Abandon Universities: A four-point planWhy the Past 10 Years of American Life Have Been Uniquely StupidKnow someone who is as black-pilled about the culture wars as we are? At Long Last, More Regulations For Forever Chemicals This week, the EPA proposed the first national standards for drinking water that would set limits on the amount of PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) chemicals that would be allowed in water systems. There are thousands of different PFAS chemicals, which are often used industrially for properties such as heat, water and stain resistance—from fire-fighting foams to coatings on clothing and paper plates. They have come to be known as “forever chemicals” as they are extremely slow to break down in the environment. The chemicals have been linked to health problems, including cancer. Katherine Wu, staff writer for The Atlantic, joins Ira to talk about the proposed regulations and how such a sweeping rule might be implemented nationwide. Wu also discusses her latest article on COVID-19 origins, and genetic analysis that could tie the pandemic back to raccoon dogs in the Wuhan market. They also talk about other news from the week in science, including research hinting at active volcanoes on Venus, a study of the effects of COVID-19 on maternal health during pregnancy, and research into curing HIV with stem cells from cord blood. Plus an explosion of seaweed, and the unveiling of a new space suit design. How AI Is Changing The Drug Development Pipeline Researching and developing new drugs is a notoriously long and expensive process, filled with a lot of trial and error. Before a new drug gets approved scientists must come up with something they think might work in the lab, test it in animals, and then if it passes those hurdles, clinical trials in humans. In an effort to smooth out some of the bumps along the road, a growing number of pharma companies are turning to new artificial intelligence tools in the hopes of making the process cheaper and faster. Ira talks with Will Douglas Heaven, senior editor for AI at MIT Technology Review about his reporting on the topic. An Ambitious Plan To Build Back Louisiana's Coast Louisiana will receive more than $2 billion to pay for an ambitious, first-of-its-kind plan to reconnect the Mississippi River to the degraded marshes on Plaquemines Parish's west bank. A collective of federal and state agencies—the Louisiana Trustees Implementation Group—signed off on the multibillion-dollar Mid-Barataria Sediment Diversion on Wednesday. The funding will come out of settlement dollars resulting from the 2010 Deepwater Horizon oil spill. Once constructed, the two-mile-long sediment diversion is expected to build up to 27 square miles of new land by 2050. In the next 50 years, as Louisiana's coast continues to sink and global sea levels rise, the diversion is also projected to sustain one-fifth of the remaining land. “The Trustees believe that a sediment diversion is the only way to achieve a self-sustaining marsh ecosystem in the Barataria Basin,” wrote the implementation group in its decision. Read the rest at sciencefriday.com. Balancing The Good And Bad Of Phosphorus Phosphorus is critical to life as we know it. In fact, every cell in the human body contains this important element. It's also a key component in fertilizer. But not all of that fertilizer stays on crops—much of that phosphorus flows into waterways. Therein lies the rub: the runoff fertilizes the plant life growing in the water, creating toxic algal blooms. To top it all off, the phosphorus reserves in the United States are on track to disappear in just a few decades, according to some estimates. Ira talks about the past, present, and future of phosphorus with Dan Egan, journalist in residence at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee's School of Freshwater Sciences, and author of the new book, The Devil's Element: Phosphorus and A World out of Balance. Want to read The Devil's Element with us? Join the SciFri Book Club and read along! Transcripts for each segment will be available the week after the show airs on sciencefriday.com.

Hey everyone, AT LONG LAST, Stranger Things - Season 4 (Vol. 1) has finally released on Netflix after nearly a three-year wait. I love this show and was hyped, yet skeptical (partly due to the long wait and trailers), for the next chapter of the narrative Eleven and her brave friends, with the Upside Down. This is a SPOILER-FILLED Review of Season 4, Vol. 1 of Stranger Things.
Patty and her husband are actively looking for a place to call their own in France and they are leaving no stone unturned, as you will hear when you play this episode. Because Patty and her husband have a goal to move to France within 5 years, when they come to France they don't look for the best tourist attractions. Instead, look for places where they might want to live. They travel to get the feel of a place and they also usually visit the nearby attractions. Header photo: this is the village of Montolieu, village du livre et d'art near Carcassonne, France. Looking for a place to call your own in France Their search lead them to the Rhone Valley, Burgundy, the Aude and the Ariège. These are the sort of beautiful places they'd like to retire to eventually. Places that are not touristy, with charm and character, affordable prices, and easy access to a city and services. After my chat with Patty Annie will share a scary personal update, travel tips and news and AT LONG LAST! Some details about the French Immersion / Join Us in France Reunion I am planning for all of you who would like to join me in France May 21 through May 27, 2023 in Toulouse. Biden is the new FDR, 'cept he's still got his functioning gams, jack! Some piece of shit judge wants to smooch with and make tender love to Kyle Rittenhouse. New psychological study says we're thought more highly of than we'll ever know. Some proto-Banksy enacted the inverse of Project Mayhem by covertly changing traffic signs on an LA freeway. The great Dave Anthony gives us a valuable scientific/political lesson and gets to slag Matty "One Billion American (Slaves) Needed" Yglesias along the way. CRT? AT LONG LAST! Here's the second of a three-part interview with CandyRat Records founder Rob Poland. In 2019, at the Fingerstyle Collective Guitar Festival in Arkansas, I met up with the founder of CandyRat Records, Mr Rob Poland. I was CandyRat's first signing, after releasing nine CDs on conventional record labels between 1989 and the early 2000s.In the second of three parts, Rob and I talk about the launch of the label and early signings and successes with such artists as Antoine Dufour, Andy McKee, Robert Taylor and Eric Turnbull. CandyRat Records has been the home of some of the world's most innovative solo guitarists and singer/songwriters since its inception. It has seen the staggering viral success of Andy McKee, and huge contributions from a range of musicians, from Antoine Dufour, Jimmy Wahlsteen, Stefano Barone and Mike Dawes, to name a few. With over a quarter of a billion views on YouTube (and countless more on other platforms) featuring styles of music that would definitely be considered outside the mainstream, CandyRat has been a 21st century success story. Nonetheless, it hasn't been immune to the changing nature of digital music distribution. We touch on many of these points throughout the interview's three episodes.Check out the CandyRat catalogue at www.candyrat.com to find CDs, LPs, T-shirts, music downloads and sheet music by CandyRat artists.
AT LONG LAST!! Here we are! We're back, and more excited than ever! After personal life events took us through a few loops we finally found the time to get together to wrap up this beautiful trifecta horror series. We couldn't have asked for a better last movie to end the ride that we truly never wanted to end... but it had to eventually and it was SOLID! Come swing by for old time sakes and listen to us review this magically horrific movie. After this its time to move back into the random movie world and tackle more new movies because the world keeps on spinning and the film keeps on rolling. TRANSCRIPT OF AUDIO From the Cumberland Gap to the Atlantic Ocean, this is Virginia Water Radio for the week of April 12, 2021. This revised episode from April 2013 is part of a series this year of spring-related episodes. MUSIC – ~ 18 sec – Lyrics: “I went outside, the rain fallin’ on the branches bare. And I smiled, ‘cause I could feel a change in the air.” That’s part of “The Coming Spring,” on Andrew VanNorstand’s 2019 album, “That We Could Find a Way to Be,” featuring Kailyn Wright on vocals. It opens an episode about the feathered “changes in the air” that take place each spring in Virginia. We start with a series of mystery sounds. Have a listen for about 15 seconds, and see if you can guess what’s making these three different high-pitched songs, each heard just once. And here’s a hint: These small creatures make big journeys, twice a year.SOUNDS - ~12 sec If you guessed warblers, you’re right! And if you’re an experienced birder, you may have recognized the songs of a Bay-breasted Warbler, Palm Warbler, and Tennessee Warbler. These three species breed in Canada and the northern United States, but they winter in Central and South America, and they’re among the birds that may pass through Virginia during spring or fall migration. Virginia’s location along the Atlantic coast and Chesapeake Bay allows Commonwealth birders to have a chance to see songbirds, waterfowl, and birds of prey that migrate along the broad, eastern North American route known as the Atlantic Flyway, one of four main migratory routes on this continent. For example, while about 100 bird species breed in the Great Dismal Swamp National Wildlife Refuge in southeastern Virginia and northeastern North Carolina, over 200 species have been identified there, particularly during the spring migration from April to June. The Colorado-based organization Environment for the Americas, which has helped coordinate an annual World Migratory Bird Day, has called bird migration, quote, “one of the most important and spectacular events in the Americas.” Virginia’s part of that spectacle, every spring and fall. Thanks to Lang Elliott for permission to use the three warbler species sounds, from the Stokes Field Guide to Bird Songs. Thanks also to Andrew VanNorstrand for permission to use part of “The Coming Spring.” We close with part of another song, whose title captures how many people may feel about spring’s arrival after a long winter. Here’s about 20 seconds of “At Long Last,” by the Harrisonburg and Rockingham County, Va.-based band, The Steel Wheels, from their 2011 album, “Live at Goose Creek.” MUSIC – ~ 22 sec – instrumental SHIP’S BELL Virginia Water Radio is produced by the Virginia Water Resources Research Center, part of Virginia Tech’s College of Natural Resources and Environment. For more Virginia water sounds, music, or information, visit us online at virginiawaterradio.org, or call the Water Center at (540) 231-5624. Thanks to Stewart Scales for his banjo version of Cripple Creek to open and close this show. In Blacksburg, I’m Alan Raflo, thanking you for listening, and wishing you health, wisdom, and good water. AT LONG LAST...IT'S EPISODE FOUR!! This time our variety show features a dazzling reading by Amelia Schwabe of her piece "The Shack Was Our First Home" followed by a sweeping interview with poet, former postmaster, and founder of the Peterborough Poetry Project, BILL CHATFIELD! Both Amelia and Bill are featured in our new paperback collection of spiritual writing, Spiritus Oppidum, Vol. 1 - available starting Friday 12/4 on monadnockunderground.com ! BUT FIRST...we call this our Time Travel episode because by listening, you get to go back in time...all the way back to September and October, when most of this was recorded. What's more, in our September recording session, Zoë and Chris review every single issue of the Monadnock Ledger-Transcript from the month of August. If you don't remember, there were a LOT of controversies that month - including Chris' ignominious removal from the Peterborough, NH Facebook group. To wrap things up, as always, we've got Storytime with the Wizard of Monadnock. One last note: this episode, for the first time, was produced and sound engineered by the singular Chad Patterson. The difference is palpable. Time Stamps: 00:00 - Intro/News Review 54:02 - Amelia Schwabe reads "The Shack Was Our First Home" 1:01:00 - Bill Chatfield Interview 1:38:36 - Storytime with the Wizard of Monadnock Links: Writing by Amelia at Monadnock Underground: https://www.monadnockunderground.com/tag/ameliaschwabe/ Bill Chatfield and the Peterborough Poetry Project (including all of their recently published collections) can be found here: https://peterboroughpoetryproject.org/ Subscribe at: patreon.com/monadnockunderground

Forgive me if I go as far as calling my special guest this week a legend but in my eyes, he is! So, I'm a big fan of his work in the voice community of course but having the pleasure of getting to know Tom bit by bit over the last decade or so, it was a real treat for me to kick off Vocal Freedom, speaking with a teacher and friend who I have the utmost respect for. A generous soul as well as spectacular voice teacher, Tom has much to offer the world and I hope you enjoy tuning into this episode. Tom can be contacted though the fabulous community he has with the Tom Burke Weekly Voice Challenge page on facebook which has over 1600 members from around the world. Head there for updates and so much valuable and free information about all things voice and vocal health. Tom's song selection included: Carmen Cusack singing At Long Last from Bright Star

In iOS 13 the same idea can be applied to your data plan as Low Data Mode will let you conserve your precious megabytes when you start approaching the high end of the data cap allowed. Simply visit Settings, Cellular Data Options and explore the section labeled "Low Data Mode" to activate this tool. Sound Off: David Partrick starts us off with this question. "Greetings. I have heard Joe talk about his experience with the Surface Go. I now find myself in possession of one, and I am looking to find a way to use it. It came with a third party cover and keyboard. It s nice, and small, and I can type on it, but, I cannot get the function keys to work with either JAWS or Narrator. The Function modifier key appears to be ignored. I am wondering what keyboard Joe is using, and, if the folding keyboard Joe and JJ talked about on a recent BBQ would be a good match for the Surface Go. Thanks in advance. David" The Pluggable Keyboard is the one Joe was using in that episode. You will still need to seek out a case to protect the Surface's screen if you plan to travel with the device. Georgia has some insight about a previous show. "Hi J.J., Please have dean back on blind bargains. I was glad to hear about his chrome book coing out. Pizza with potatoes on it, and pizza with sweet potatoes. Pineapple, oh yes had it many times. It is good as well. The show notes--are they on the app? I could not find them. Having trouble getting to the bargains part of the app. Like the tips also. Do you put them in the notes? I am going to see if I can find those notes. Georgia kitchen" Greg Portch writes in with this question... "Hi, Joe was talking about older devices. Is an iphone 6s or Se fast enough for ios 13 if you are a voice over user I mean will the phone be sluggish, not asking about the current bugs in 13. Thanks, /Greg We haven't had time, what with all the Apple updates for 13 lately, to put the 6s through testing. But we've seen others say that it isnt horible. Probably not desireable for the long haul however. Next, Richard writes in with this comment. "The two of you talking over and or interrupting Constqantly makes listening to your pod cast extremely cringing! I started counting and perhaps every 5 seconds one or the other does a talk over so that neither ones comment can be understood. Check it out and perhaps you will see just how irritating this is to a person trying to listen to every word spoken. Nuff said and hope I don t have to type to you again." We posted this email because we like to be transparent about our craft and we do appreciate all remarks about our show. Podcasting is like cooking. A recipe can change according to the talent and background of the person, or people, cooking the ingredients. We never set out to conform to the NPR style or the bombastic over the top formats of morning radio or sports talk programs. Our idea, as it has been for almost a decade, is to make the listener feel like they were smack dab in the middle of a group discussion at a major convention. Technical limitations, such as the delay in voices traveling back and forth through the internet, also play a role in how tight we edited our vocal tracks. Over the years we ve managed to turn those delays into seamless conversation, however as noted by the email above, we recognize that not everyone likes this dialog flow. That is why we try to post our companion show notes in broadcast order for those who don t want to listen to the entire episode. Our audience can skip directly to the portion of the show that interests them by using our notes as a guide. Or, by design, they can just read the notes instead of listening to the show if they prefer. Over hundreds of recorded hours of us blathering on at one another about stuff, we re most proud of our consistency in tone and sound. We experiment with our format, our focus and formula from time to time. But our style is what we believe sets us apart from others in the field of podcasting. We have the amazing Patrick perdue to thank for all of this as he has been the bedrock of this audio endeavor. And by no means do we diminish his accomplishments out of fear that he has the power to make us look like idiots with the flick of an editorial finger. Nope, no worries at all about that end of year out takes. Episode. Shudder Last Word: The upcoming holidays have us thinking about travel and these two links seemed to fit that mindset. A Long Time Ago on Veronica Mars: Wallace is living his best life: crushing on a girl who just *happens* to need the services of a private detective, pretending to be a math nerd, and AT LONG LAST getting to go to a party. Gamer guys are running a massive scam from their college dorm room, with a complex front of dudes wearing baggy rumpled beige clothes. Veronica dug into her huge wardrobe of disguises! And a lot of those disguises are ‘hot girl’. Flashback limo party, present-day college party: which is cooler? A: any party with Lilly Kane at it would be way cooler than a culturally appropriative hat party. And Veronica swam amongst the memories of homecoming dances past before finally going skinnydipping IRL, in the present. Join Jenny Owen Youngs and Helen Zaltzman to investigate Veronica Mars Season 1 Episode 4: The Wrath of Con, and delve into such mysteries as why you would let Veronica Mars anywhere near your big drawer of keys, whether Duncan’s denim blazer is formal or informal, how to pronounce ‘wrath’, and where on earth the Marses store their huge range of disguises and gadgets. AT LONG LAST, WE RETURN! Sorry for the long wait, folks! The Breakfast Puppies setup has recently undergone a complete studio move and upgrade, which has taken a lot more work than initially planned. But after a break for the convention season, we're back to regular releases of HAMMERCRAWL! As explained in the introduction, we had a bit of an echo problem in the space where we were recording. We apologize if any irritating sound artifacts made it into the recording, we did our best to zap them all. Drop us a line! This week we're headed back to the quaint New England town of Lovecraft, where magical keys are plentiful and wishing wells have dark shadows lurking at their hearts. Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez bring us three short stories from the world of LOCKE & KEY. The first is a bittersweet but lovely story about a father and his dying son, and explores what you might find on the other side of the moon. The second has a much more familiar tone, and involves a group of criminals who think the family living in the big house on the hill will be easy pickings, but guns are no match for the Locke family's keys. The third tale is a bit sillier, and plays more as a joke about the IDW publishing house than as a real story. We discuss which story was our favorite of the three, our favorite parts of the original Locke & Key story, and the production of a Locke & Key show AT LONG LAST. Did you have a favorite story? And who would you cast to play the Locke kids on the new Netflix show? We'll be busy crafting our own magical keys, to find a way to take us into the future when the show has already aired.

At Long Last, 200! Hello, and welcome to episode 200 of The Fantasticast. Each week, Steve Lacey and Andy Leyland guide you through every issue, guest-appearance and cameo of The Fantastic Four. It's finally here. The big one. The climax to the epic Reed Richards/Doctor Doom saga. The first truly impressive anniversary issue from the House of Ideas. Face front, True Believer - this is When Titans Clash. It's oversized, it's overpriced, it's overly-melodramatic, and it's really rather good! Marv Wolfman, Keith Pollard, Joe Sinnott, Francoise Mouly, John Costanza, Mark Gruenwald, Jim Shooter, and Jack Kirby present Fantastic Four #200, in which Reed and Doom get to punching the living daylights out of each other, a statue causes a riot, Johnny fight some missiles, Alicia can't recognise Ben's voice, and Sue... er... well, the issue isn't perfect. The Fantasticast is support by Stitcher Premium, home of Wolverine: The Long Night, launching March 12th. The gang tracks down Dave, who calls in from Finland while on SPORTS ASSIGNMENT, and we get distracted for the first twenty minutes jibber-jabbering about Salibandyliiga (a.k.a. floorball) (a.k.a. we don't know what it is), curling, jai alai, eSports, and the USA Rock Paper Scissors League, the end result of which is our DEFINITIVE SETTLING of the issue of popular and unpopular sports whose participants have or do not have a sense of humor about the sports themselves. In the second half of the show, Mikal offers a heartfelt (?) admission that he is addicted to Gatorade, and we SOMEHOW, with no regard for our own basic BIOLOGICAL NEEDS, also serve up the final word on Shaquille O'Neal's 1999 dunk on Chris Dudley, the 1965 Koufax/Marichal/Roseboro kerfuffle, common Saved By the Bell plot points, Mr. Met's delightful obscenity, and Kevin Durant dunking on everybody. Then, AT LONG LAST, Mike offers his delirious Marxist perspective on sports viewing and we premiere Mikal's NBA Finals theme song, a Lynchian masterstroke that requires of you a lot of time and at least one diaper. She survived speech delay as a child, Sensory Integration Disorder, the Chicago public school system, growing up Asian in America, the upheaval and reinvention of college (earning a dual bachelor’s of English and Philosophy), the traumatic birth of her first child, domestic violence and PTSD. She writes a variety of fiction, all enriched with cultural, social and experiential depth drawn from lived experience. She resides in Iowa with three small humans, two leopard geckos, and a mysteriously self sustaining tank of guppies. You'll have to forgive me if the audio is a little wonky; there was a little bit of lag on the call, but I patched it up as well as I could. Leslie is a single mother, and writing is currently her sole income. She releases science fiction and fantasy stories through her patreon. Last year she published a short, "At Long Last," in the anthology Story of a Kiss. She was not a romance writer, but knew someone who was putting the anthology together and took advantage of the opportunity. The most difficult part of being an author as a single-mother is that there is little time to work, and the difficulty of building creative momentum with the constant interruptions. The patreon serial format works well for this. A large part of the author's job is the organic process of self-promotion. Leslie tells us about how Sensory Integration Disorder shaped her growth into books and writing as a child. Speech delay meant she didn't communicate much, but she had a rich inner life, and reading written dialog was a way she could process interaction visually. She wanted to write things that moved people. In 2017 she wants to take the Twinborn serial and rewrite them as a cohesive series grouped by character viewpoints. She has shifted in view from wanting to write as doorstoppers to more manageable sized books. She submits writing to open submission calls. Check out Elm Books, they're just getting started and are looking for writing. She has found tremendous value in her local writing group, the Ceder Room, an extension of the Iowa Writer's House. Creative careers may be the only way some people can work around their situations to provide for their families. There is hope. Like this episode? Subscribe, rate, and review it on iTunes. WITH A CAST OF THOUSANDS. WELL OK. A CAST OF FIVE. THOUSANDS! DIVIDED BY A THOUSAND. SO FIVE. OSMnotes Yes we are back and in 2 weeks we may even have another new episode! Exciting times my friends. ANYWAYS special shout-outs to the OSMfriends that made this episode possible. John, Dylan, Pat, Niko. They are all amazing and wonderful people. And not out to get me like Charlie is. I’m on to you and your double spaces after periods!
AT LONG LAST! Chapter VI!Sorry about the delay - my trip home to see friends and family took up the last 4 weeks and while I actually edited the show while back home in San Francisco, a computer crash left several blank segments in my recording and I had to wait to get back here to re-record those bits. The good bit is that you will get chapter 7 in a day or two....Enjoy!Morgan
