The hero's journey. We all know it. The biggest coward in town, basically sucks at everything, convinces the neighborhood kids to run away from problems. A freak accident leaves him with amazing new powers, with which he can help his community, and humanity as a whole. But instead he remains a complete coward and sucks so much, they kick his ass out of town. Meteor Man is the story of a man wasting an amazing cast, and pretty much his career. enjoy!

Lights Out: A Pioneering Horror Radio ShowThe radio show "Lights Out" captivated audiences with its chilling horror and suspense stories from 1934 to 1947, albeit with some interruptions. The initial run from 1934 to 1936 was followed by a hiatus, but the show's revival in 1942 reignited its popularity, solidifying its status as a prominent program in the genre.Groundbreaking Sound Design and Disturbing NarrativesThe show's creator, Wyllis Cooper, was already renowned for his contributions to other successful horror and suspense radio shows like "Quiet, Please!" and "The Witch's Tale." In 1943, the reins were passed to Arch Oboler, a prolific figure in radio production, who further elevated the show's reputation."Lights Out" distinguished itself through its innovative use of sound effects and its exploration of unsettling themes. The show's mastery of sound design created an atmosphere of palpable suspense and terror, leaving a lasting impression on listeners. The narratives frequently delved into the darker facets of humanity, featuring tales of murder, madness, and the supernatural.Enduring LegacyEven today, "Lights Out" holds a special place in the hearts of old-time radio enthusiasts and horror aficionados. Its groundbreaking use of sound and its ability to deliver thought-provoking and often disturbing storylines continue to resonate with audiences. Memorable episodes like "Chicken Heart," featuring a woman trapped with a mysterious killer, and "Cat Wife," exploring a man's unsettling marriage to a feline entity, exemplify the show's enduring appeal. These episodes, among many others, showcase the chilling and suspenseful narratives that made "Lights Out" a landmark in radio history.

Suit up, listeners, because this week we're flying high (or maybe just hovering awkwardly) with The Meteor Man and Blankman. That's right. On this episode of Not A Bomb—Movie Matchup Edition, the guys tackle a pair of African-American-led superhero films. Troy and Brad are joined by their sidekick in film discussion, a man who knows all things comic books and superheroes, Mr Korean Kool himself, John.Listen as we dive into these ā€˜90s superhero gems that weren't afraid to get a little weird. What happens when a mild-mannered teacher gains superpowers from a mysterious green meteor—only to discover his abilities include talking to dogs and making plants grow? And what's the deal with Blankman's unorthodox crime-fighting tactics and his hilariously named sidekick, Other Guy? Plus, what exactly is going on with Blankman's quirky robot companion, J-5?We'll dive into the neon gang wars and the inexplicably star-studded casts (hello, James Earl Jones rocking that wig) and determine if these films are bombs. More importantly, the guys decide which film is the champion for the week. It's an episode full of laughs, nostalgia, and plenty of homemade superhero charm. Don't miss it!"The Meteor Man is directed by Robert Townsend and stars Robert Townsend, Marla Gibb, Eddie Griffin, Robert Guillaume, James Earl Jones, Bill Cosby, Another Bad Creation, Luther Vandross, Sinbad, Naughty by Nature, Cypress Hill, Big Daddy Kane, and Faizon Jone.Blankman is directed Mike Binder and stars Damon Wayans, David Alan Grier, Robin Givens, Jon Polito, and Jason Alexander. Not A Bomb has has plenty of spooky designs in our Merch store! Episode Description: On this episode of the Nonsense Podcast, we dive into absolute chaos, starting with an AITA story about a girl who was given a gay intervention—despite never actually being gay. Somehow, she gets gaslighted by her own friends... and Henvincible?! Then, FNBob delivers a brutal takedown of Valentine's Day, calling it overpriced and exhausting, before putting Henvincible on blast for being a light-skinned lover boy. We shift gears into gaming, where Henvincible is all in on Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, and FNBob hypes up Capcom fighters and Onimusha: Way of the Sword. And finally, we wrap things up by showing love to our favorite Black movies, from Meteor Man to Pootie Tang and The Last Dragon! Episode Highlights:

Known for his extensive and acclaimed roles on stage as King Lear, Othello, and Jack Jefferson; on screen in Field of Dreams, Coming to America, and Meteor Man; and through his voice as Darth Vader and Mufasa—his presence on Earth will be missed, but his impact will not be forgotten.Today, we honor James Earl Jones's memory. May he rest in peace.*Please excuse our usage of the wrong last name for James Earl Jones' character in The Great White Hope. While Jack Johnson was the real boxer who the story was about, James Earl Jones played the character Jack Jefferson in both the stage and film adaptation. Once again, we apologize for the error*

All biography is autobiography. Nowhere is this more evident than when discussing Tom Scioli's back-to-back books, Jack Kirby: The Epic Life of the King of Comics and I Am Stan: A Graphic Biography of the Legendary Stan Lee. Since his earliest works, Scioli has found himself through his reverence, study, and subversion of the King. Kirby's collaborations with Stan Lee shaped much of our current cultural imagination, and they absolutely reworked Scioli's DNA and continue to do so with each passing day. During our first conversation with Tom Scioli, done shortly after he completed his Jack Kirby biography, he seemed hesitant to the idea of tackling Stan Lee next. Three years later, he's done so, but he did it in an unexpected way, skipping the interior path into his subject and embracing the exterior. After all, there are so many more interviews, articles, biographies, and documentaries on Stan "The Man" Lee than Jack Kirby, and it was much easier to source the events described in I Am Stan. Hell, the appendix to the comic is almost as richly readable as the comic itself. I Am Stan's front cover and first two pages establish a challenging position, especially for those who've adored Stan Lee in a particular fashion for so many decades. We're grateful to have Tom Scioli on the podcast this week to discuss those opening blows and the sympathy and love he still carries for the man who many believe built Marvel Comics. We discuss how his approach to Stan Lee differed from Jack Kirby's and how both books combine to form a third narrative. I Am Stan: A Graphic Biography of the Legendary Stan Lee is now available from Ten Speed Press. Make sure to follow Tom Scioli on Twitter HERE, on Instagram HERE, and on Patreon HERE. What's in the box!? Scott Summers invites Emma Frost into his mind palace and shows her his special black cube, constructed with a little help from his ex. Gulp. This week, we reach the halfway point in our ScEmma Counseling Session series, discussing Dark X-Men: The Confession as well as Uncanny X-Men issues 518 and 519, which mark the height of their functionality. Yup, it's the top of their hill, and we're not ready to look on the other side. But let's not get ahead of ourselves. Instead, let's revel in their achievements as they recognize each other's authentic selves while casting off their conditioned selves. Namor, Tony Stark, the X-Force kill squad. Forget about them. Scott and Emma, you're two desperate, hyper-vigilant people pleasers who can forget their shady past sins and embrace their sexy present sins. Helping us navigate Scott and Emma's multiple psychic revelations isĀ Dr.Ā Nicole LeperaĀ and her book,Ā How to Be the Love You Seek:Ā Break Cycles,Ā Find Peace and Heal Your Relationships. Together, we explore the seven conditioned selves, consider which apply to Scott and Emma, and wonder whether Psylocke was the right choice for Professor X's surgical assistant. Dark X-Men:Ā The Confession was published by Marvel Comics in September 2009. It's written by Craig Kyle and Chris Yost, penciled by Bing Cansino, inked by Roland Paris, colored by Edgar Delgado and Brian Reber, and lettered by Rob Steen. Uncanny X-Men issues 518 and 519 were published between December of 2009 and January of 2010. They were written by Matt Fraction, penciled by Terry Dodson, inked by Rachel Dodson, colored by Justin Ponsor, and lettered by Joe Caramagna. The initial mission was to create a character who would outlast him. Todd McFarlane stared down Superman, Batman, and Spider-Man. He knew he had a character within him that could last beyond his own lifetime; he just had to pull him out. Spawn might not have outlived his maker yet, but he has survived and thrived these last thirty-plus years. As has Todd's action figure empire, McFarlane Toys, celebrating its thirtieth anniversary this year. Next month, Spawn continues its record-breaking run, reaching a milestone of three hundred and fifty issues. The comic promises to answer questions that have been building for years while laying the groundwork for a Spawn Universe explosion: seven new Spawn-related titles will hit shelves throughout 2024. You might think Todd McFarlane would be preoccupied with everything happening in his world in 2024, but he's already scrawling out his 2025 plans. Longevity is the great, underrated value in business. As is the importance of a thick back catalog ready to exploit when the spotlight falls upon it. This week, Todd McFarlane returns to Comic Book Couples Counseling for the fourth time, and it's our longest and most in-depth conversation so far. We ask him about the lessons we could all learn from the four decades he's spent in the comic book trenches. While he's initially resistant to accept that there are any lessons to grab, he generously opens up and shares his various philosophies. These are the secrets to Todd's success. Spawn #350 arrives from Image Comics on February 21st. If you want to continue our discussion with Todd McFarlane, you can find him on Twitter and Instagram, as well as his Website. Today, we get serious about ScEmma. After years of teasing it, we're finally tackling the complicated romance between the X-Men's Scott Summers and Emma Frost. It's a relationship born out of pain and surprise. Maybe it was not meant to last, but we can't ignore the lessons found within their passion. We begin our counseling session at the end of Grant Morrison's iconic New X-Men run, discussing the Assault on Weapon Plus, Planet X, and Here Comes Tomorrow storylines (issues 142 - 154). The psychic affair is known, out in the open for every X-Man and reader to judge. Scott and Emma are thrown apart, and their reunion must wait until Magneto's done with Manhattan. Once face-to-face, the riddle of their relationship could be the answer behind an apocalyptic future. What's Jean got to say about it all? Helping us navigate possible romantic catastrophes is Dr. Nicole Lepera and her book, How to Be the Love You Seek: Break Cycles, Find Peace and Heal Your Relationships. What hope does ScEmma have if Scott and Emma are alienated from their authentic selves? Can any relationship survive when one or both parties feel broken? New X-Men issues 142 - 154 were published by Marvel Comics between June 2002 and May 2003. They were written by Grant Morrison and penciled by Chris Bachalo, Phil Jimenez, and Marc Silvestri. They're inked by Tim Townsend, Al Vey, Aaron Sowd, Andy Lanning, Simon Coleby, BATT, Joe Weems, Billy Tan, and Eric Basaldua. The colorists were Chris Chuckry, Steve Firchow, John Starr, Matt Milla, Beth Sotelo, and Brian Buccellato. The letterers were Chris Eliopoulos and Rus Wooton.Ā  As always, Omnibus, the Digital Comic Store and Reader, sponsors our Referrals segment. "Lights Out" was a renowned radio horror anthology series that captivated audiences during the mid-20th century. Created by Wyllis Cooper and later helmed by Arch Oboler, the show left an indelible mark on radio broadcasting, particularly for its ability to instill fear and unease in listeners through its chilling narratives. The series made its debut in 1934 and quickly garnered a devoted following for its unique and terrifying content. At its core, "Lights Out" was known for its dark and disturbing stories, often delving into the realms of the macabre, the supernatural, and psychological horrors. It pushed the boundaries of what was considered acceptable on radio during that era, making it a daring and innovative production. One of the most iconic aspects of the show was its opening sequence. Arch Oboler's ominous voice would pierce the airwaves, instructing, "Lights out, everybody!" followed by a dramatic crashing sound effect, setting the stage for the eerie tales that would follow. What truly set "Lights Out" apart was its minimalistic approach to sound effects. The studio would often darken during broadcasts, enhancing the sense of foreboding and allowing listeners' imaginations to fill in the gaps. This simplicity contributed to the show's ability to create a palpable atmosphere of horror. The show didn't shy away from graphic and shocking content, frequently depicting violent and gruesome scenarios that were considered audacious for its time. This boldness was a departure from the more restrained style of radio drama prevalent during that period. Each episode of "Lights Out" was relatively short, typically lasting around 15 minutes. This brevity allowed for intense, concentrated bursts of horror, making it all the more captivating."Lights Out" left a lasting cultural impact, influencing the horror genre in radio and later in television and film. It paved the way for other horror anthology series and played a pivotal role in establishing the conventions of the genre.Despite its relatively short initial run, "Lights Out" continues to be celebrated by fans of classic radio dramas. Its legacy endures through adaptations and references in various forms of media, a testament to its enduring ability to evoke fear and suspense through innovative storytelling and a minimalist approach to atmosphere and sound effects. This show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/6004714/advertisement

After employing a variety of therapies he went on to be a collegiate athlete, triathlete and avid telemark skier. His first career path was in tech, supporting telecom and financial institutions. This includes your employees. Conventional medicine isn't set up to do this. This has spurred Dr. Tim's passion for wellness and disease prevention, the ability to support and connect with others, and impact thousands of lives in the future of healthcare. He has been trained around the world including from 27th-generation Ayurvedic healers in Nepal to Traditional Chinese Medicine in China. He is a board-certified primary care doctor practicing functional medicine combining the best of conventional Western medicine and complementary medicines. He specializes in functional and postural neurology, endocrine system disorders, detox therapies, and family wellness care. Dr. Heath's multidisciplinary functional medicine health center sees a diverse set of patients ranging from babies with neurologic deficits to collegiate athletes, neurodegenerative patients to desk jockeys, and weekend warriors. Each person receives the highest level of detailed care combining the latest evidence-based objective measurable testing and evaluations as well as subjective observation. The results of this and details from each visit formulate a personalized plan.

Back to the HOSTS picking the movies, damn it! This week, we start off a very special Super Summer Flopbuster season by talking all about the Robert Townsend superhero flick The Meteor Man. Is this silly superhero movie based in Republican logic? Why does this children's movie have so many drive-by shootings? Are satin baseball jackets and bleach-blonde hair really that scary for a gang? And how does this comedy manage to last 105 minutes with almost no jokes? Plus: it was very hard to find this movie and the guys talk about the shifty "real network" that seems to be the only place in the world that houses the film. Check our social media on Sunday for the Sunday Screencrap and take a guess at our next movie! What We've Been Watching: Repo Man Questions? Comments? Suggestions?
