This week we have a bit of a different episode for you. We were one of the sponsors for the 2022 Boots & Hearts Emerging Artist Showcase so we thought it would be fun and different to record an episode from the festival. Jenna sat down for a quick chat with some of the Emerging Artist Showcase finalists after their performances.Owen Riegling ended taking home the title of official Emerging Artist at this year's festival, but at the time of recording, we only knew that Owen and Taylor-Rae were selected as the two finalists competing for the official title. Jenna sat down with Owen Riegling, Amber-Jo Bowman, Mark Ledlin, ANNIKA, and Taylor-Rae. We recorded this backstage at the festival, so you can hear some background noise, so you'll have to listen a little hard for some of the chats. Sorry about that! Growing up in Ajax, Ontario, Kris Barclay got his first guitar for Christmas when he was thirteen years old and would sing along to his favorite Country songs when nobody was around. Fast forward, and Kris has opened for such artists as Brett Kissel, The Washboard Union, The Road Hammers, Gord Bamford and Dean Brody. In 2019, Kris was nominated in the Rising Star category for the Country Music Awards of Ontario. At the 2018 Boots and Hearts Music Festival, Kris was voted by fans as the wildcard entry into the Emerging Artist Showcase, allowing him to compete against six other artists in front of a jury of country music artists and industry execs. Kris went on to become the first ever wildcard artist to win the showcase, earning him a spot on the mainstage to close the weekend's festival, and a trip to Nashville to write with some of Country music's top songwriters. Also, part of the win was a recording deal with Warner Music Canada, which saw the release of his debut single "Loved You Like That" which has garnered over 1.5 million streams to date.  Off stage, Kris has been raising funds for mental health and PTSD in the Veteran and First Responder community. Partnering with Wounded Warriors Canada, Kris was able to raise four thousand dollars in 2020 for their programs.  The new single from Kris is called "More Than Whiskey" written by Meghan Patrick, Aaron Goodvin & Skip Black. Kris recently opened up a few shows for Meghan.

Shayne and Katey joined John on the phone , to discuss the band and music , including the latest track - Tell me it’s overScarlet's Way have already travelled a long way to carve out their name. From Western Australia to East Nashville, and many stops along the way, they have done some miles recently. But given their hunger to perform, this journey has a long way to go!The super-smooth duo is made up of the talented Katey Gabel (Lead Vocals) and highly regarded Shayne Savic (Guitar) and they are creating new fans at every turn. Their trademark southern, roots-inspired brand of music brings lashings of Americana, accompanied by polished overtones synonymous with modern day Nashville.Since releasing their first single No Fire, No Flames which reached #7 on the iTunes Country Charts in 2017, they have taken their music to the world. They released their second single Simple Life in 2018, accompanied by their debut music video. This video attracted over 30,000 views in just the first week and was quickly added to Foxtel’s Country Music Channel (CMC) demonstrating the group’s growing popularity. This was followed by their third single “Let the Devil In”, this seductive track went onto receive impressive radio support, staying in the AMRAP top 10 for two straight weeks. While the online and television attention is great, like all seasoned musicians, these guys do their best work live on stage. The act has been invited to play on multiple stages at Tamworth Country Music Festival and obviously made an impression. These performances opened doors to Nashville's Americana Fest and the Gympie Music Muster. Highlights of the duo’s performances include performing at the world-renowned Bluebird Café and completing a national tour performing at theatres and venues throughout New South Wales, Victoria and Western Australia. They also took out the Emerging Artist Showcase and performed on Main Stage in their first year at the Gympie Music Muster in 2018. They were then promptly invited back to be a part of a massive line-up in August 2019. Recently the band was awarded "Independent Group of the Year" at the 2020 WA Country Music Awards and were invited to close the Saturday night of Boyup Brook Country music festival with an electrifying set.If this is what Scarlet's Way can accomplish in such a short amount of time, what will the future bring! Aren't you curious to see what all the fuss is about?

Meghan Cary didn’t mean to be a musician. But when her fiancé unexpectedly died, she picked up his guitar, figured out how to play it, and wrote her debut, earning her Billboard Magazine’s Critic’s Choice for Best Newcomer. “I wrote my grief into music and sang my way out of the abyss.” Cary continues to share the healing power of music with the community that has rallied around her message of hope and being heard. Known for her raw honesty and ability to connect with and engage her audience, Cary brings people to their feet and at times to tears with high-energy tunes, masterful storytelling, and lyrics that resonate universally. Cary’s song “Sing Louder”, a call to raise our voices together to make a difference, has become an anthem for the music-loving community. In fact, “Sing Louder” resonated so well with audiences in her live shows, that Cary was inspired to include some of these fans on her new record of the same name. Cary gathered 48 music lovers in the studio to raise their voices with her on two tracks, “Sing Louder", and “Responsibility”. Many of them stepped far out of their comfort zones to don headphones and sing into a microphone. They sang with passion, joy and abandon, and it was a profound experience for Cary and all those involved. That energy was captured on Sing Louder.  “Music is the most potent tool I know to break down walls, slip through barricades, and connect with each other. And when we authentically connect, we can change the world,” said Cary. “Now more than ever we need to be courageous enough to transcend emotional, intellectual, and political barriers, and raise our voices…together.” Cary began her career on stage as a theatre actress with over 100 credits for her work in the U.S. and Europe, and a successful on-camera and voiceover career. She’s written a one-person show with music, “On the Way to the Waterfall”, which she continues to perform around the country. She is also currently composing music and lyrics for the Broadway-bound musical, “The Accidental Caterer”. After pushing pause on performing to raise two children, Cary launched back onto the music scene at Philly Folk Fest and was awarded a coveted Emerging Artist Showcase slot at Falcon Ridge Folk Festival. Cary’s smoky voice, emotional singing, and vulnerable writing continue to win over audiences, and garner favorable comparisons to Melissa Etheridge, Natalie Merchant, Stevie Nicks, and even Bruce Springsteen. In response to life’s inevitable curve balls, Cary’s mantra is: “If you don't know the words...Sing Louder!”
