A true hard work pays off story! Holly went to NZ after uni and found herself milking cows albeit the plan was to work with horses but the desire for an equine career was still there! Upon coming back to the UK she started her whirlwind of creating the In The Country magazine, a quarterly rural based high production quality release. COVID brought an end to that but new beginnings for Holly! She then took on a livery yard and is the manager to this day! Also she may or may not have a wee announcement!
HOW BAD IS CRIME IN DENVER? The Common Sense Institute brings receipts in this report showing that Denver is now in the top ten for crime IN THE COUNTRY. One of the most interesting take aways from this report is that crime is HIGHEST in Denver City Council District 9...which is represented by Cande Cdebaca, who suggested we should get rid of cops and replace them with a "peace force". I wonder how her constituents would feel about that now? I've got former DA Mitch Morrissey at 1 to discuss the report.

Episode 218: Of all the 1960s California folk rockers, Richie Furay had a quieter but most interesting career. He co-founded two iconic bands in Buffalo Springfield and Poco. He wrote and sang a landmark country rocker in "Kind Woman," the track that brought steel guitar man and eventual frontman Rusty Young into the Poco fold. And then in midlife Furay moved to Colorado to become a pastor, leading a church for decades, while touring and recording as the Richie Furay Band. Now he's released a Nashville-made covers album called In The Country with tracks from the hit parade of Keith Urban, Garth Brooks and others. Also in the hour the Milwaukee to Nashville journey of Sista Strings, the musical vehicle for Chauntee (violin) and Monique (cello) Ross. They've been visible on stage in the past year with folk stars Allison Russell and Brandi Carlile. And they have big plans for their own sound.
Richie Furay, a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame band Buffalo Springfield, launched his music career with the Au Go-Go Singers in the early 1960's. One of rock's premier singer/songwriters, Richie's career continued to prosper with country rock legends Poco and also the Souther-Hillman-Furay band. Releasing 9 solo studio albums along the way, his latest is In The Country. Multi-award winning program director Ray White hooked up with Richie in June of 2022 to talk about his latest album, his beginning in the music industry, playing at one of the top music festivals of all-time and the reunion of Buffalo Springfield. Our showcase segment features Richie's Buffalo Springfield bandmate Stephen Stills, who released an album in 2017, with his former sweetheart Judy Collins, titled Everybody Knows. The legacy continues...on Classic Artists Today!

Recorded at Nashville's Blackbird Studios with Grammy-winning producer/engineer Val Garay, (Linda Ronstadt, James Taylor, Kim Carnes, and many other iconic artists), it is the kind of collection an artist often waits their entire life to make. Focusing on country songs that Furay has been listening to, some for decades and others more recently, it captures his voice with such incredible depth and beauty that even those who have been long-time fans and followers will be caught with wonder. We chatted with him today about his extensive career in music, and he told us candid stories about the other bands surrounding him at the time, and even his come to Jesus moment - literally!

Secretly his unconscious body, still flickering with life, is spirited away by to an island monastery in the Venetian lagoon where he recovers his health and joie de vivre. From there he begins a series of adventures that include Auguste Rodin, a romance with an English aristocrat, a new lover, a session with Sigmund Freud, and an heroic death. I spoke with novelist Ardythe Ashley about her meticulously researched historical novel that breathes new life into a writer who continues to charm and fascinate readers and audiences to this day. Ardythe Ashley is the author of The Return of the Century: The Death and Further Adventures of Oscar Wilde. While doing research for the novel, she found herself in the Library of the British Museum reading the letters Oscar Wilde wrote in his dank cell in Reading Gaol to Lord Alfred Douglas (Bosie), later published as De Profundis. “I'm sorry, Madam,” came the firm-but-not-unkind voice of a white-gloved librarian, “but it is not permitted to weep upon the manuscripts.” In addition to being a writer, Ashley is a retired psychoanalyst. A retired psychoanalyst, Ashley is also the author of the novels The Christ of the Butterflies and In The Country of the Great King. La Luz - "In The Country" from the 2021 album In The Country on Hardly Art. Today's Song of the Day transports LA-via-Seattle trio La Luz to the countryside, adding a gentle folk feel to their signature surf sound. It's the band's first new music in three years, since their 2018 album Floating Features. Principal songwriter Shana Cleveland explains in a press release, "I moved to the country a few years ago after living in cities for most of my life. Being out in the middle of nowhere makes it easy to imagine how it would be possible to leave society all together. I love how in this track some of the most unnatural elements of the arrangement (synthesizers, fuzz, effects) create an atmosphere around the instruments that ends up feeling very natural — I can hear bugs buzzing around and bird sounds in different directions." La Luz plays November 19th at the Neptune Theatre with Tropa Magica. Check out the video below, directed by band member Lena Simon. The band states, "This is a reminder to go outside, to stare at nature a little bit too long, and to appreciate what it shows you." Today's Guest: Peter Golenbock, In The Country of Brooklyn, American Prince: A Memoir Order from Amazon.com by clicking the book above Order from Amazon.com by clicking the book above You Midwesterners may disagree, but I don’t think there is any single place in this country more representative of the soul of America than Brooklyn and New Jersey. And the fact that I was born in the former and raised in the latter doesn’t color my thinking at all. Both are cultural, ethnic and racial melting pots dating back to the earliest days of the original 13 colonies. But only one is featured as a world onto itself in a new book by my guest, Peter Golenbock. In The Country of Brooklyn is a remarkable trip through the history of one of the United States’ most vital geographic regions, one that has contribute to our nation in the fields of politics, culture, society and pretty much everything else that counts. But that’s not the only new book he has hitting bookstores today. Peter also helped actor Tony Curtis produce his autobiography, titled American Prince: A Memoir, and that is also available today. Two books published on the same day. Not bad, not bad at all! This is Peter’s second visit to Mr. Media; he was my guest in early 2007 when he published the controversial book, 7: The Mickey Mantle Novel. He is also someone I consider a friend. Don Graham and Marshall Dane - Together Again For the First Time! Don Graham is a veteran country singer/songwriter having spent over four decades perfecting his craft. He has performed globally, picking up friends and fans around the world. Don was signed in the early days to Irving Almo Music to a writers deal by the legendary Brian Chater, resulting in him relocating from his hometown of Montreal to Toronto. Don now spends his time performing at select venues, while also travelling to showcase at places like the Nashville Palace in Tennessee, a private party during MIDEM in Cannes, France and appearing on the pilot for a video show hosted by Dave Woods. Marshall Dane was born in Southern Ontario and brought up on music, with a preacher Dad who played guitar and a musical Mum who played piano. Playing his first solo gig at age fifteen for thirty-five bucks and a plate of cheesecake, Marshall tried working in a band before eventually taking fate in to his own hands in 2008, heading down to Nashville for a master-class in composing country songs. Playing in bars and clubs as a solo singer and with a touring band has given him his fair share of stories and insights – great for writing songs. But when it comes to cooking up a tune, Marshall admits that his parents’ spiritual upbringing permeates his writing, with themes of love, home and kindness appearing throughout his songs. Don and Marshall will be performing their show - Don Graham and Marshall Dane - Together Again For the First Time! - on November 26th at Musideum in Toronto. Tune in to hear this dynamic duo tell stories, tell jokes and share songs on this special episode of In The Country.

Country artist JAMIE WARREN lives in Kitchener-Waterloo, but was raised in Hanover Ontario, where he pursued an adolescent dream of playing hockey professionally in the NHL, with music as a background distraction. When he realized that his natural abilities for singing and playing guitar might make it easier to attract the attention of girls, he hung up his blades. It was a logical progression for a sensitive guy who wrote poetry and short stories throughout his high school years. His interest in music was likely genetic, since his mother sang and played piano, and his father played guitar and mandolin. Jamie had piano lessons at age 5 and guitar lessons at age 8, and by the time he was 10 years old, it was traditional for the Warrens to entertain after Saturday night euchre games in their smoke-filled basement. His earliest influences were whatever his parents listened to on the radio, and the only thing his parents radio seemed to play was country music. To this day, he’s still a huge fan of Merle Haggard, Tammy Wynette and Patsy Cline. Eventually, he began an association with producer J. Richard Hutt, who produced “Right Here Right Now” and all of Jamie’s previous recordings, but who initially engaged Jamie as a singer for jingles he produced out of his Kitchener-based CedarTree Studios. “I didn’t have a clue what I was doing” says Jamie, “but Rick had a lot of patience”. In 1993, Jamie was convinced that both radio and Nashville might have relaxed enough to make room for him again, and he released “Fallen Angel” on River North/Mercury Records, which yielded an enduring fan favourite and radio hit, “One Step Back”. There were many more hits to follow for this talented Canadian artist. Tune in for stories & songs from Jamie on this episode of In The Country.
Join us for this special Christmas episode of In The Country featuring Country artists Riki Knox, Mike Biggar & RyLee Madison. Each of them has a Christmas song to share. A true performer, Riki has been described by her audiences as charismatic and highly entertaining. Whether she’s getting people up on their feet dancing, or engaging them with the strength of her original songs, Riki has a knack for drawing in the crowd and creating an unforgettable musical experience. She’s a girl who values and appreciates the ‘little things in life’. That grounded mindset has seen her go from playing church and charity events, to sharing the big stage with artists like Dallas Smith, Marc Jordan, Carole Pope, Jack DeKeyzer & Justin Hines to name a few. Mike is an award-winning Country-Rock artist from Canada’s East Coast. His infectious melodies are well-spiced with lyrics of life, love, and loss. Powerful, punchy anthems with generous helpings of clever hooks and smart writing sit opposite intimate, tender ballads. Soaring vocals, honest lyrics and keenly focused performance energy concoct a compelling musical potion that makes instant fans of those who listen. Born and raised in Halifax, Nova Scotia, RyLee's music may have carried her to Nashville, but her hometown always plays an important role. RyLee says, "Nashville is my second home. I've created family here with my husband and friends but my first home will always be Nova Scotia." RyLee has traveled to Europe, performing at Festival Country Rendez-Vous in France, Whelan's Pub in Dublin, Ireland, Half Moon in Cork, Ireland, and Róisín Dubh Pub in Galway, Ireland and at the famed Bluebird Cafe in Nashville.
