Evan Daugherty's journey in public service and public affairs began at an early age, rooted in the values of his politically and socially active family on Detroit's Westside. Growing up in the close-knit, walkable community of Rosedale Park, he developed a deep understanding of social justice and racial equity, which became central to his life's work. Alongside his passion for hip-hop and music, these influences shaped his artistic and professional path. Today, Evan serves as the project manager for the Detroit Reparations Task Force, where he addresses issues that have long affected the city. In this Detroit is Different interview, we delve into how the Great Recession and Detroit's bankruptcy have influenced his perspective and career trajectory. Meet Evan Daugherty, and discover how these experiences continue to shape his approach to justice and equity. There's no denying that Lara Croft is a very popular and respected video game protagonist. But with failed movies based on her video games in the past, it is going to be a huge feat to win audiences over with the character once again. Can Warner Brother's manage a kick-ass realistic-style reboot similar to how game developer Square Enix did with their rebooted game series in 2013?  In this episode, the Iggy boys discuss video games briefly for a change to coincide with Tomb Raider's release, introduce yet another one-time segment, and discuss the Alicia Vikander-led film in depth - including how promotional materials like teaser clips may have spoiled integral plot points before the movie was even released.    GET IN CONTACT! How does setting up rules help you build a world? In our most epic/longest episode yet, Chas and Stu tackle world building in films. Specifically, how the rules make something a world and not just a setting. Starting with world-centric genres like sci-fi and fantasy, we also cover horror, crime drama and - er - "other". We discuss a variety of techniques for setting up the rules of the world, including cold opens, voiceover, title cards and outsider characters! We've limited ourselves to the opening 3-5 pages... mostly... because (so the theory goes) they're the pages that teach the audience how to read/watch your story/film. Like with the character introductions episode, we cover a lot of scripts. In no particular order... [deep breath]... THE MATRIX, THE MATRIX RELOADED, MATRIX REVOLUTIONS, INCEPTION, GRAVITY, MINORITY REPORT, MOON, LOOPER, ELYSIUM, JURASSIC PARK, HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON, HARRY POTTER AND THE SORCERER'S STONE, MADAGASCAR, FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING, PAN'S LABYRINTH, SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN, NIGHT WATCH, VAN HELSING, THE ONE I LOVE, 28 WEEKS LATER, WORLD WAR Z, DAWN OF THE DEAD, 30 DAYS OF NIGHT, ZOMBIELAND, WOMAN IN BLACK, BRICK, ANIMAL KINGDOM, DIE HARD WITH A VENGEANCE, THE UNTOUCHABLES, GOODFELLAS, SHORT TERM 12, SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK, TINKER TAILOR SOLDIER SPY, MOONRISE KINGDOM,THE ROYAL TENENBAUMS, and FOUR WEDDINGS AND A FUNERAL.
