Una puntata, due film! Il geologo Kristian Elkjord deve vedersela dapprima con un'onda immensa causata da una frana e poi con uno dei terremoti più potenti del secolo, che minaccia di devastare Oslo. La sua famiglia lo aiuterà a salvare quante più vite possibile. Una mini saga che mi ha molto soddisfatto, personalmente. In tanti non l'hanno vista e ci troviamo quindi di fronte a due film un po' caduti nel dimenticatoio, ma vi garantisco che The Wave e The Quake sono davvero notevoli. Si tratta di due disaster movie che si prendono i loro tempi per descrivere bene i personaggi, aiutandoci quindi ad affezionarci a loro. Inoltre, cosa assai rara in questo genere, gli effetti speciali davvero degni di nota non si mangiano la pellicola e vengono mostrati con la giusta parsimonia, quando davvero occorre. Bravi i protagonisti e bene la regia, per due storie che tengono davvero incollati allo schermo e nelle quali è difficile dire chi sopravvivrà alla fine. Consigliatissimi.

Not sure of the exact beginnings, but stories of Norwegian Trolls can be found in the first written sources, the sagas, from the Middle Ages, but they were in oral traditions and people's imaginations long before that time. The term “troll” actually comes from the Proto-Germanic word “Trullan” which translates to mean fiend, demon, or giant. So some were described as giants, terrorizing entire villages, and others were considered to be small, evil tricksters. In general, most trolls were considered to be cruel, violent, unattractive creatures, with huge noses, big teeth, and grotesque features and were thought to be quite stupid and easily tricked.While, there is no single agreement as to what trolls may have looked like, most Norwegians agree that there are basically 2 types of trolls, the Trogre and the Troblins. The trolls of the mountains or forest, the Tragre, are generally depicted as large, dumb, and brute-ish and are said to use connections with nature to uproot trees to use as weapons, or to cause ecological disasters such as hurricanes and avalanches. The trolls of the caves, the Troblins, live completely underground & are generally depicted as smaller, with a large round stomach and short, stubby arms and legs. They tend to use their connections with nature to baffle or deceive humans.On the second half, we reviewed the 2022 film Troll, directed by Roar Uthaug. (ATTENTION SPOILER)Les aventures de Lara Croft sont portées pour la 3ème fois au cinéma et une fois de plus, le film n’est pas à la hauteur du jeu mythique. Quinze ans après la sortie du dernier épisode en date, c’est l’actrice oscarisée Alicia Vikander qui endosse le rôle de la célèbre archéologue dans un reboot réalisé par le norvégien Roar Uthaug. Inspiré du jeu “Tomb Raider: The Definitive Edition” sorti en 2013, le film raconte comment Lara Croft part à la recherche d’un tombeau mythique japonais pour poursuivre la quête de son père décédé et empêcher, au passage, que le monde ne bascule dans le chaos. Mais le film ne ressemble à rien de plus qu’à une version édulcorée et cheap du jeu. La portion congrue de l’histoire prend le dessus sur l’épique et la violence et tout le parcours progressif de construction du personnage qui faisait le sel du jeu est passé à la trappe. Whether it is the handful of characters, or the isolated location, or the never-give-up killer, slashers have been a main stay of the horror genre since the days of Mario Bava. What keeps them fresh depends on your taste, but when a new entry to the genre gets buzz, people perk up. When the Norwegian movie Cold Prey arrived in 2006, it immediately gained attention. Five college students head out on a skiing trip for some spring skiing. Rather than heading to the regular tourist traps, they instead hike up a non-traditional mountain and ski down its virgin slopes. When an unfortunate accident occurs, they have to find shelter until they can hike to the closest community. The abandoned lodge they find however may harbor a serial killer that wants to pick each of them off one by one. The film was directed by the new hot director Roar Uthaug (now helming the upcoming Lara Croft movie). One of the breakout stars was Ingrid Bolsø Berdal who went on to star in the genre films Escape (2012) and the Chernobyl Diaries (2012) before becoming a regular cast member of HBO’s Westworld. The film was also written by Martin Sundland and Magne Lyngner who were behind the director’s other films Escape and The Wave. The film also had to follow ups including Cold Prey 2 which also was well received. Dark Discussions takes a look at this cult classic and gives their thoughts.
