SPOTLIGHT: Building mass, capability and trust with autonomous and uncrewed systems, with Michael Mitchell, Elysium EPL director

Australia's maritime estate is simply too vast for any conventionally manned fleet to patrol effectively – uncrewed and autonomous systems will prove key to maintaining Australia's maritime sovereignty. With an exclusive economic zone stretching across roughly 8.2 million square kilometres and critical northern chokepoints through which virtually all the nation's fuel and essential imports flow, the conversation establishes from the outset that the case for autonomous maritime systems isn't about technological novelty, it's about geographic necessity. In this episode of the Defence Connect Spotlight podcast, host Steve Kuper speaks with Elysium EPL director Michael "Mitch" Mitchell where they discuss the increasing proliferation of autonomous and uncrewed systems with the Royal Australian Navy.  Drawing on his experience as a submariner, Mitchell's first and most important argument is the persistence imperative. Manned patrol vessels, however capable, are constrained by crew welfare, logistics and port rotations. Autonomous platforms carry none of that overhead. They can loiter on station for days or weeks, consuming far fewer resources and requiring only remote oversight.  His second key argument is a conceptual reframe: stop thinking about platforms and start thinking about payloads. The hull, in Mitchell's framework, is just a delivery mechanism. What matters is the modularity of what it carries – sonar, radar, sonobuoys, acoustic modems, hydrographic sensors – and whether those payloads can be swapped rapidly to meet different mission requirements.  They also discuss Elysium EPL's dual-use certification approach, deliberately avoiding ITAR-restricted components, which is presented as proof of concept for this philosophy in practice.  Perhaps the most culturally challenging argument Mitchell makes concerns attritability. Australian defence procurement culture treats assets as things to be preserved.  Mitchell argues that small autonomous vessels need to be reconceptualised as expendable ordnance, drawing an explicit parallel with the Nulka active missile decoy deployed in numbers and postures that would be unthinkable for crewed platforms.

Michael Moore was one of the first artists to hit the NOT REAL ART airwaves, and he's just as unpredictable now as he was then. A mainstay of the Chicagoland art scene, Michael is best known for his madcap “Frankenstein” machines: kinetic assemblages built from scrap steel, blinking warning lights, and whatever vintage oddities he can scavenge, all pieced together in his garage. These days, the self-taught tinkerer and lifelong musician has a new twist in his story: He's a finalist for the People's Artist competition, a wild card contest backed by Johnny Depp, Artforum, and the nonprofit Art of Elysium. The prize? Twenty-five grand, a spread in Artforum, and a moment in the LA spotlight at Elysium Salon, all decided by public vote. If you're reading this, you can tip the scales by voting for Michael here.On this episode, Michael and host Scott “Sourdough” Power talk about the evolving world of people-powered art, the highs and lows of chasing votes, and why Michael still can't quite believe his “cremation station”—one of his signature contraptions in the running—might just be his ticket to the big time.

Whilst Greece takes seven years, they have zero minimum stay requirements, excellent for global investors.Japan, Portugal, and Greece all have something different to offer, whether you're a seasoned investor diversifying or a family weighing up your long-term options. Takk for redogering Torgeir Johansen v Micdrop Media.Hør flere episoder på @hormonpodden

Hello my friends and welcome to another edition of my vinyl show. This installment revolves around my Frank Sinatra 45 collection. Some of my favorite old pieces and live performances. Sure, some of them sound terrible but get over it. I really enjoy them and it's what I wanted to do ova hea now for this episode. It did run a little short this week but I didn't want to play every Sinatra record or dig too deep into the Tony Bennett bag. Once I get to a certain spot in the Bennett bag you know Dean Martin and Jerry Vale's greatest hits will enter the chat and by that point it's all over. The Close To You mashup I expanded this episode to contain the Sinatra, Stevie Wonder talkbox live, Frank Ocean on vinyl and one of Ocean's live performances of the song from a few years back. As much as I like Burt Bacharach, the original version of the song is absolute garbage and will never see the light of day in my mashup. Sorry, Burt. The poor unassuming people have no idea that I'm publishing this podcast, putting on a sick hoochie daddy fit and I plan on kicking the door down at this card show. Taking the place by storm. No prisoners no mercy. Today I happily expand my Pokemon portfolio as a 33 year old man with no friends and absolutely no hint of a love life. Getting ready for this card show all I hear in my head is Russell Crowe. "Three weeks from now, I will be harvesting my crops. Imagine where you will be, and it will be so. Hold the line. Stay with me. If you find yourself alone, riding in green fields with the sun on your face, do not be troubled. For you are in Elysium and you are already dead. Brothers.. What we do in life.. Echoes in eternity." Maybe I'll be a super sick internet disc jockey forever in Elysium's comparative platforms to the interwebs. Maybe I'll forever be a super sick bro that totally crushes the local card scene of the Everafter. Not selling, but I am bringing some old stuff from my childhood to show the Brodie that works at the store. Just showing up to gloat my KD, Harden and Steph rookies. Some Jordan inserts. Whatever. I couldn't be more fired up about it. Hope you enjoyed the Frank The Tank installment, your favorite internet disc jockey will be here next timeThe Captain Kirk of this Enterprise,Throbert Duvall

Welcome back to the RPGBOT.Podcast, where today we're talking about Plane of Elysium—the one afterlife that sounds so good the Dungeon Master has to invent mechanics to stop you from moving there permanently. It's paradise. Your needs are met. You're at peace. You're happy. Too happy. In fact, if you stay too long, you might fail a Wisdom save and decide adventuring, heroism, and saving the multiverse are overrated compared to eternal riverfront property and a Mai Tai. And if that sounds suspiciously like quitting D&D to live in a gated community called "Ecstasy," don't worry—we'll explain why enforced happiness, dragon shift-work, and a giant bone spine gate mean Elysium is still absolutely unhinged. Show Notes What Is Elysium? Elysium is the Neutral Good Outer Plane, positioned between the Beastlands and Arborea. It represents true contentment, rest, and fulfillment, rather than law, chaos, or moral absolutism. Souls here aren't punished, tested, or judged—they're finally allowed to relax. The Core Vibe No labor, no scarcity, no stress. Everything you need is provided. Happiness is genuine—unless you're in the gate town, where it absolutely is not. The Four Layers of Elysium Amoria Gentle meadows, forests, and idyllic towns along the River Oceanus. Every settlement somehow has riverfront property. Biomes get weirder the farther you travel from the river (plains, badlands, deserts… for reasons). Eronia Craggy mountains, harsh winters, rugged terrain. Heaven for dwarves, mountain folk, and anyone who thinks Colorado weather is "nice actually." Belierin (Bellerin) The prison layer of heaven, which is a sentence that should worry you. Holds legendary threats that couldn't be killed: hydras, ancient evils, fallen dukes of Hell. Access is restricted—mostly via the River Oceanus. Perfect setup for a level 20 "heaven jailbreak" campaign. Thalassia Endless ocean dotted with heroic islands. Where the best souls go—or where deities personally abduct you before you die because you're just that good. Eternal tropical vacation, sailing, fishing, and zero capitalism. The River Oceanus A holy river that flows through Elysium and beyond. Functions as a major planar highway connecting multiple Upper Planes. Also conveniently Hydra-proof. Who Lives Here? Guardinals (celestial animal-folk with extreme "Narnia energy") Moon Dogs (the best boys; CR 12; hunt evil; deserve all the treats) Phoenixes, because nobody here is trying to harvest them for profit Numerous deities, including Pelor, Lathander, and Shantaea Pathfinder vs. D&D Pathfinder does have an Elysium—but it's functionally closer to D&D's Arborea. Same name, wildly different vibes. The Gate Town: Ecstasy Located in the Outlands, connected to Elysium. Appears joyful, welcoming, and celebratory… because happiness is magically enforced. Suppressed emotions inevitably explode into violence. Ruled by twin dragons: The Lightcaller (gold dragon, daytime ruler) The Night Whisperer (silver dragon, nighttime ruler) Never seen together. Definitely suspicious. Key Locations in Ecstasy Philosopher's Court – a "safe" place to vent grievances that now regularly turns into Fight Club. Revelhome Inn – run by a Lawful Neutral medusa who turns problem guests into garden statues. The Bone Plinth – a giant spine you climb to reach the gate to Elysium, because nothing says "upper plane" like skeletal horror décor. Planar Mechanics Overwhelming Joy (Optional Rule): Fail repeated Wisdom saves and you refuse to leave Elysium. If forcibly removed, you'll do everything possible to return. Fear effects are weakened. Violence is rare—unless you're in Ecstasy, where it's scheduled. Key Takeaways Elysium is D&D's most tempting afterlife—and the one most likely to derail your campaign. It offers true happiness, not moral judgment or endless labor. The layered structure lets every character imagine their perfect heaven. Belierin quietly turns heaven into an endgame boss rush. Ecstasy proves that enforced happiness is way scarier than honest suffering. Overwhelming Joy is a brilliant narrative mechanic for testing player priorities. If your party reaches Elysium and leaves voluntarily, they are either heroes… or liars. Welcome to the RPGBOT Podcast. What happens when Hollywood decides smart, fearless women don't sell? We sit down with Kay A. Oliver, award-winning author and former industry insider, to explore how she turned that “no” into twelve page-turning novels, a loyal readership, and growing momentum toward the screen.Kay shares a writing process built for consistency and flow: visualizing the opening and ending, stopping mid-scene to avoid writer's block, and using novellas to test ideas, master KDP formatting, and later expand into full-length novels. She explains how deep research fuels her globe-trotting mysteries, why accuracy builds reader trust, and how Road to Elysium weaves grief, mentorship, and second chances with the emotional resonance of Gran Torino and A Man Called Ove.Then we get tactical. Kay breaks down a repeatable indie marketing system: submitting to the right book awards for credibility, investing in press releases that can generate 40k–60k impressions, and running targeted ads where readers already are. We talk platform choice by audience and timing, tracking ROI through the Amazon dashboard, creating cinematic book trailers, and using BookFunnel and KU promos to grow your newsletter through shared audiences. If you're an indie author looking to write faster, market smarter, and build a catalog that lasts, this Have a comment? In this episode of The Comic Source, Jace sits down with creator Ben Mauro to dive into the epic sci-fi universe of his original graphic novel Huxley and its prequel Huxley: The Oracle. Ben talks about conceiving the world long before his blockbuster film work at Weta on projects like Elysium and The Hobbit, developing the early pages while freelancing and backpacking around the world, and how heavy metal–style European comics, manga, and cinematic concept art all shaped the book's distinct visual identity. Jace and Ben discuss the core premise of Huxley's post-apocalyptic adventure, the more grounded, war-story tone of The Oracle, and how themes of AI, responsibility, long-ago mistakes, and second chances drive the emotional heart of the saga—without giving away any major twists. Ben also pulls back the curtain on his process, from pencils and color "soundtracks" to building lore across timelines, hints at trailers and potential adaptations, and lets listeners know where they can pick up both editions in time for the holidays, making this a perfect episode for fans of rich, visually stunning science fiction looking for their next great universe to explore.

The guest mix hit parade continues! Right on the heels of his last train mix Paul gives another train-themed set. This is one more in line with many of Paul's other train mixes in that it's main genre is berlin-school. I have been on a berlin-school bender all year so I am excited for this one. Here's what Paul says about the mix: "You're sitting on a grassy slope above the cottage, looking out across the landscape below. It's night and soft dots of light here and there indicate other houses, groups of houses, a road. In the distance you can see the black edge of a ruler, marking the gap between carriages and a bright bar of light moving left in front of it. Like happens in dreams, you are watching the scene and then you are in it, your seat tipped back, not quite asleep, you're looking out the window. It's a modern train. Gone is the classic click-click, click-click, but you can still feel the subtle rocking back and forth as the train hurtles silently forward. Under the stars. The cacophony of a station stop, made eerie in the wee hours of the morning. Or memory stirring up a previous adventure then returning you to your current tranquility." Thanks, Paul, for another excellent entry in your continuing train series. After a highly successful corporate career, Richard retired in his early 30s, compelled to take a stand as a corporate whistleblower in 2004 under the Sarbanes-Oxley Act. Representing himself in court, he exposed systemic corruption and injustice, an experience that profoundly shaped his mission to empower individuals with the tools to protect their freedom and intellectual sovereignty. Through his journey of discovery, Richard uncovered a web of systematic control mechanisms and corruption that disproportionately affect the middle and lower classes. Recognizing the need for solutions, he dedicated his life to collecting rare artifacts, evidence, and knowledge that expose these systems of control. His work focuses on equipping individuals with the intellectual self-defense, critical thinking, and creative problem-solving skills necessary to navigate and overcome these challenges. Richard believes that true freedom is built on three pillars: Non-Aggression, Physical Self-Defense, and Intellectual Self-Defense. To this end, he has created a wealth of educational media and resources to help others understand how the world really works and how to reclaim their autonomy. As the creator and host of the Grand Theft World Podcast, Richard curates and presents vital information to help break the chains of mental bondage and mind control that suppress human freedom. His podcast serves as a beacon for those seeking to understand the deeper truths of our world and take actionable steps toward liberation. Richard is also the founder of the AUTONOMY Course of Action, a premiere course at the University of Reason designed for freedom-minded individuals who want to upgrade their skills, knowledge, and access to freedom. Through AUTONOMY, he teaches intellectual self-defense and provides a framework for personal and professional growth. Additionally, he created AUTONOMY's University of Reason Library, a comprehensive resource offering critical information to empower self-learners and autodidacts. With decades of experience in the freedom movement, Richard Grove continues to inspire and educate individuals worldwide, helping them build the skills and mindset necessary to thrive in an increasingly complex and controlled world. His work is a testament to the power of knowledge, critical thinking, and the relentless pursuit of truth.

Homer's The Odyssey is one of the oldest and most enduring stories in all of civilization. Set in the aftermath of the legendary Trojan War, the great war hero Odysseus has been lost at sea for decades. As he struggles to return home, his story asks us important questions about history, memory, choice, kindness, leadership, violence, and much more. Thousands of years later, The Odyssey still matters.   This episode examines books 1-5 of The Odyssey, introducing us to the main characters and overall plot. We travel to the island of Ithaca to see corrupt suitors courting Penelope, the queen of Ithaca. Her son Telemachus fights to gain news of his father, journeying to far off lands to discover that Odysseus is indeed still alive. Finally, we meet Odysseus, held captive by the beautiful but deceptive Calypso. Odysseus is longing to go home and may finally have his opportunity. This section of the podcast series analyzes themes of mortality, free will, fate and destiny, civility and hospitality, post-war trauma and grief, the tension between the world of gods and the world of men, and much more.  If you're reading along, the next podcast will cover books 6-10! -Consider Supporting the Podcast!- Leave a rating or review on apple podcasts or spotify! This 13 part podcast series explores these massive questions and more through the lens of Nazi Germany and the ordinary people who collaborated or resisted as the Third Reich expanded. As the secrets of the House deepen and the mystery of his life becomes more sinister, Piranesi must discover who he is and how this brings him closer to the “Great and Secret Knowledge” that the House contains. Touching on themes of memory, identity, mental health, knowledge, reason, experience, meaning, reflection, ideals, and more…Piranesi will be remembered as one of the great books of the 21st century. The late Syd Mead was a visual futurist who was hired to imagine the worlds of Blade Runner, Tron, Aliens, Elysium and other sci-fi films. His work in Hollywood has been lauded for decades, but there's a new exhibit in New York that shows a different side of the artist. Syd Mead: Future Pastime is a collection of his personal and commercial paintings, which are all works of science fiction. Despite his connection to the dystopian world of Blade Runner, Mead's personal vision of the future was unwaveringly optimistic. I talk with Mead's husband and business partner Roger Servick, and the curators of the exhibit, Elon Solo and William Corman, about Mead's predictions for the future of technology, sexuality and spirituality.
