"A Boot And A Shoe" The Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter Sam Phillips has had quite a career. The Glendale-born musician has almost fifteen albums under her musical belt, including The Indescribable Wow, Cruel Inventions, Martinis and Bikinis, Cold Dark Nights and the newly reissued version of A Boot And A Shoe. We'll get to that in a minute, but before we do, let me give you a partial list of folks she's collaborated with over the years: R.EM., Elvis Costello, T-Bone Burnett, Van Dyke Parks, Marc Ribot, Jim Keltner, Gillian Welch and David Rawlings. Other career highlights; she's composed scores for Gilmore Girls, Bunheads and the Marvelous Ms. Maisel, she appeared in Die Hard With A Vengeance and Wim Wenders' The End Of Violence (the throat cutting I referenced comes in the former) and her handmade collages on repurposed vintage album sleeves that were found at flea markets.were exhibited at the Gertrude Contemporary in Australia. But back to a Boot and A Shoe. The 2004 album has been given a proper reissue by Omnivore to commemorate its 20th anniversary. Available on CD and on vinyl for the very first time along with new liner notes penned by Phillips, the thirteen track album has never sounded better. Thanks to Phillips' lyrical dexterity and elegant phrasing and featuring numbers like "Reflecting Light," "If I Could Write," "Hole In My Pocket" and "One Day Late," A Boot And A Shoe" remains a timeless classic. www.samphillips.com www.stereoembersmagazine.com (http://www.stereoembersmagazine.com) www.bombshellradio.com (http://www.bombshellradio.com) www.alexgreenbooks.com (http://www.alexgreenbooks.com) Stereo Embers The Podcast Twitter (what's left of it): @emberseditor IG: @emberspodcast Email: editor@stereoembersmagazine.com (mailto:editor@stereoembersmagazine.com)

It's Die Hard in New York City! It's finally here! This week Phil and Liam drill down on one of the most beloved films in the storied Die Hard franchise: Die Hard With A Vengeance! To aid them in their investigation of this all-conquering box office smash, the boys have brought in special guest Chris Tilly, a writer, journalist and editor at Dexterto.com and one of the hosts of the hugely popular film podcast Clash of the Titles. While back working for the NYPD, detective John McClane (Bruce Willis) is targeted by a mysterious terrorist named Simon (Jeremy Irons), who effectively holds New York hostage and forces McClane to complete a series of deadly puzzles around the city to prevent further attacks. In the process, McClane teams up with Harlem store-owner Zeus Carver (Samuel L. Jackson), and together they uncover Simon's true agenda…and his real identity! The guys start by recalling their memories of seeing this hit film upon its release in the summer of 1995, before moving into the ‘Die Hard DNA' section where they identify who stayed and who left the series in terms of cast and crew. They talk about what makes this film so uniquely ‘New York', as well as the complex racial politics of the picture, before moving into a detailed discussion about the film's tortured production history, including an examination of the previous sequel concepts that were explored and abandoned, before Jonathan Hensleigh's spec script ‘Simon Says' ultimately became the basis for the third installment in the increasingly popular franchise. In ‘Anatomy of an Action Movie', the guys break down the film in terms of its premise, heroes, villains (‘Who's Your Favorite Terrorist?' is back!), and the action itself, along with the wisecracking East Coast humor that has become a staple of the series, this time bolstered by the addition of the effervescent Samuel L. Jackson. The guys dig underneath the Dolby Theatre to attend the ‘Die Hard Oscars' and steal away some gold statues, before events culminate with an appropriately collaborative edition of the ‘Double Jeopardy' trivia quiz!DIE HARD WITH A VENGEANCE trailerAt the time of release, DIE HARD WITH A VENGEANCE is streaming on Hulu, DirectTV, Fubo, and Starz and is available to rent or buy on Amazon Prime Video, Apple/iTunes, YouTube, Vudu, Redbox, AMC On Demand and all the usual platforms!AMERICAN ENGLISH SOCCER PODCASTEYE OF THE DUCK PODCASTCLASH OF THE TITLES PODCASTSupport this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/die-hard-on-a-blank/exclusive-contentAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

For this episode, Phil and Liam are joined by special guest Blake Howard, film podcaster extraordinaire and the disruptive innovator behind One Heat Minute productions, to discuss the 1994 action-thriller THE RIVER WILD.Married couple Gail and Tom Hartman (Meryl Streep and David Strathairn) are in the middle of a relationship crisis and on the verge of separation, when they take their young son Roarke (Joseph Mazello) on a whitewater rafting trip. However, their vacation turns into a nightmare when they encounter Wade and Terry (Kevin Bacon and John C. Reilly), two criminals on the lam, who take the family hostage and force them to aid their escape through the notoriously treacherous Idaho rapids. This is a hugely significant film for multiple reasons. Not only was it one of the first major action movies of the era to have a female lead, but that lead happened to be none other than Meryl Streep! The guys start by discussing the film's ‘Die Hard DNA', and debate whether it's actually closer in spirit to DIE HARD or DIE HARD WITH A VENGEANCE. They also talk about where this movie fits in among the popular 90s subgenre of ‘yuppie in peril' thrillers, and discuss director Curtis Hanson's eclectic filmography, along with his mastery of suspense and tension.  They talk about the gravitas that Meryl Streep brings to this fast-paced ‘divorce drama', and expound the virtues of David Strathairn, Kevin Bacon, John C. Reilly, Joseph Mazello and Benjamin Bratt. They dig into what the film is really saying about family dynamics, and how it was ahead of the curve with its exploration of concepts such as gaslighting, toxic masculinity and micro-aggressions. The guys then take their raft down the L.A. river to get to the ‘Die Hard Oscars', before Blake and Liam go mano-a-mano in the ‘Double Jeopardy Trivia Quiz'! THE RIVER WILD trailer:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gWew8lWYhtIAt the time of release, THE RIVER WILD is available to rent or buy on Amazon Prime Video, Apple/iTunes, YouTube, Vudu, Redbox, Direct TV, Spectrum TV and all the usual platforms.Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/die-hard-on-a-blank/exclusive-contentAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Brace yourself for an action-packed discussion as they dissect the thrilling partnership of Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson, explore the film's thought-provoking themes, and celebrate its status as one of the best entries in the series.Die Hard With A Vengeance is a 1995 classic that showcases both Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson at the pinnacle of their '90s careers. The dynamic duo elevates the movie to new heights with their on-screen chemistry and impeccable performances. Together, they embark on a high-stakes adventure that pushes John McClane to his limits and introduces audiences to a thrilling hostage/terrorist situation. What sets this installment apart is its ability to seamlessly weave in a thoughtful exploration of race and the Black experience in America, as well as the complex dynamics within law enforcement. While the film occasionally treads on misguided views of American exceptionalism, it manages to present a nuanced perspective, sparking engaging conversations about societal issues amidst the explosive action.Die Hard With A Vengeance also stands out by showcasing John McClane's evolution as a character. Jackson. Together, they form a formidable team, navigating a thrilling cat-and-mouse game that escalates the franchise to new heights. With action sequences on a grand scale and a captivating plot that propels the franchise forward without losing its essence, Die Hard With A Vengeance is widely regarded as one of the best entries in the Die Hard series. In this episode, Aleks and Milenko dive deep into its exhilarating moments, engaging themes, and the enduring legacy it has carved within the action genre. So get ready for a thrilling discussion that will reignite your love for Die Hard With A Vengeance. This week on The Pod Charles Cinecast, presented by The Prince Charles Cinema, our hosts Jonathan Foster and Fil Freitas are stuck in a game of "Simon Says" after attending the Nakatomi International Podcast Festival 2022 in New York City. It's days before Christmas, bombs are going off all over the city, and a voice from the past forces the boys into a series of degrading events, including nearly getting killed by a mob of angry podcasters, only one thing can potentially save them... Podcasting! When the mysterious voice rings up Jon and Fil and tells them they have one hour to record a podcast, the boys can only think of one film to discuss – 1995's DIE HARD WITH A VENGEANCE (it was pretty handy they had just watched it on the plane over to New York from London). Will the dynamic duo be able to appease the mysterious person (who may or may not be behind the bombings), so they can get home for Christmas, or will their dreams of holiday cheer go up in flames? Still, bad experiences of The 13th Warrior and Rollerball led to a cooling period. Even worse, he wound up in jail due to a long, convoluted story which we dig into here. On this 65th episode of The CEO Story, I have Bobby Waldron.  An athlete all of his life, Bobby began competing in wrestling at the age of four. His wrestling career found him winning many championships, setting records, and becoming an All-American wrestler in college. After missing the Olympic trials due to an injury, Waldron decided to pursue a career in personal training, using his college background in nutrition and physical education. He was a top trainer at Crunch Gym in New York City, working with high-end clientele. His time in NYC led to appearances on various talk and morning shows as a fitness expert. His morning show spots lead to national commercials for fitness brands such as Nike and Adidas, as well as on-air opportunities with QVC.He pivoted again, pursuing Muay Thai Kickboxing and martial arts. This passion for martial arts and competition led to Waldron's next career move as a stuntman in top Hollywood films and television such as Die Hard With A Vengeance, Six Degrees of Separation and Devils Rejects, Sons Of Anarchy, Outsiders, Banshee and First Kill.As a wrestler, Waldron was required to drop weight quickly and experimented with tons of creative measures for reaching his goal weight. One that had always worked and stood the test of time was wrapping the body with neoprene, causing the body's thermal core temperature to rise, resulting in an increased metabolic rate. He brought this secret into his professional training life having his client wear similar products around the waist and thus The Belly Burner was born. Putting all of his resources into The Belly Burner, Waldron launched an infomercial for the product in early 2008 and the product was an instant success. With weekly podcasts released, "The CEO Story" takes a deep dive into the success (and sometimes pitfalls) of being your own boss! We encourage each and every individual to candidly share their stories to help other entrepreneurs understand the highs and lows that come with the journey.
