Welcome to your favorite Zombie Movie Podcast — Dead Man Still Walking. In this 53rd edition of DMSW, host Dr. Walking Dead (Kyle William Bishop) welcomes special guest Jay of the Dead for a Take 2, spoiler-filled conversation about Danny Boyle's 28 Years Later (2025), the long-awaited third installment in the iconic, infected zombie film franchise. Both Kyle and Jay express their love for 28 Days Later (2002) and 28 Weeks Later, setting the stage for a comparison and assessment of this latest entry. Dr. Bishop offers analytical insights while fielding Jay's many questions about the new film. In fact, Kyle addresses the oft-asked question of why there was never a “28 Months Later,” providing context and spawning speculation about sequels and even unlikely prequel concepts. As with most zombie-related conversations, this discussion includes the legacy of George A. Romero, whom Kyle credits as the grandfather of both the re-animated dead and the infected zombie sub-genres. Together, Kyle and Jay explore the mysteries of zombie evolution over nearly three decades, while including — of course — a chat about the anatomical and gestational nuances of these infected beings. This show proudly constitutes Episode 153 of Jay of the Dead'sNew Horror Movies, and is an essential listen for fans of zombie cinema, combining scholarly insight with genuine fandom, as well as a loving critique of Boyle and Garland's infected hellscape as we return to it 23 years later. Jeff Kerr returns and we harp on the rage-zombie universe in this double feature of 28 DAYS LATER and 28 WEEKS LATER. Will the world ever eventually settle on Romero type zombie dramas or are we going to keep getting RESIDENT EVIL style apocalyptic material? Is Alex Garland tied with Christopher Nolan and M. Night Shyamalan in terms of the infamous endings? How does the initial sequel actually take a cool ALIENS type approach to one-upping the original and settling for more military action? All that and more illustrating the noteworthy theme song by John Murphy!
It's been a long time since our last episode, but we're making up for it (sorta) with 3 movies at once! 28 Days Later, 28 Weeks Later, and 28 Years Later.
We just spilled our guts over the long-awaited horror sequel 28 Years Later (2025) — and we have thoughts. Is Danny Boyle's return to rage-infected chaos a worthy successor to 28 Days and 28 Weeks Later… or just a moody stumble down a post-apocalyptic causeway? With unforgettable visuals, a killer score by Young Fathers, and one suspiciously well-endowed Alpha, this third entry might not reinvent the genre — but it definitely gave us plenty to chew on.Is this the horror event of the year or just another infected reboot? Tune in and decide!❤️
The gang abandons their wife this week as they review the non-Boyle follow up to small Brit zombie hit... this week it's 28 Weeks Later (2007). With a whole new cast, new director, and a new writer this follow yup to 28 Days Later was noted as a sort of cash grab by Alex Garland and Danny Boyle alike. And while it doesn't have the same secret sauce that the original did, there is still plenty to love about this Post Apocalyptic Dystopian movie that is kicking off our new topic for the month of July. Ana and Dan will not rescue you if you're not back by high tide. This is not the economical, revolutionary filmmaking of 28 Days Later; it is also not the clumsy genre exercise of 28 Weeks Later. Unlike 28 Months Later, it does exist. The politics are a little confused, the performances are excellent, and we disagreed about the overall quality. There's most definitely IR in this movie. Then, we contemplate the film's episodic structure, producing tonally distinct chapters that feel indebted both to Homeric and Alighierian epics as well as fantasy storytelling. Finally, we engage with the film's perspectives on death and mass crisis in the 21st century, how it speaks to our moment post-COVID and amidst Israel's ongoing genocide, and asks us to honor and value life in ways unfamiliar and reverent.Watch the trailer for 28 Years LaterListen to Taylor Holmes' reading of Rudyard Kipling's "Boots"Listen to Young Fathers' soundtrack for 28 Years Later....Our theme song is "Mirror" by Chris Fish.
Josh and Drusilla discuss another one of Dario Argento's giallo classics, Tenebrae. From wiki: “Tenebrae (lit. '"darkness"', also known as Tenebre) is a 1982 Italian giallo[2][3][4][5] film written and directed by Dario Argento. The film stars Anthony Franciosa as American author Peter Neal, who – while in Rome promoting his latest murder-mystery novel – becomes embroiled in the search for a serial killer who may have been inspired to kill by his novel. John Saxon and Daria Nicolodi co-star as Neal's agent and assistant respectively, while Giuliano Gemma and Carola Stagnaro appear as detectives investigating the murders. John Steiner, Veronica Lario, and Mirella D'Angelo also feature in minor roles. The film has been described as exploring themes of dualism and sexual aberration, and has strong metafictional elements; some commentators consider Tenebrae to be a direct reaction by Argento to criticism of his previous work, most especially his depictions of murders of women.”Also discussed: Drusilla's new house, Russ Meyer, Logan Lucky, 28 Weeks Later, Cloverfield (2008), 10 Cloverfield Lane, Collateral Beauty, Deep Red, Suspiria, Fathom, and more. Ryan and Dylan finally watch 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later just in time for the highly anticipated release of 28 Years Later, and review all three films.
First there was “28 Days Later.” Then “28 Weeks Later.” This week we got “28 Years Later.” We better appreciate this one big time because the next one has to be “28 Decades Later”, and none of us will be around. For now, let's focus on “28 Years Later”, which is the latest in this series of movies centered around an outbreak of what's called the Rage Virus. People are infected with the Rage Virus and then infect others by biting them or getting their infected blood into a person somehow. In 2007, “28 Weeks Later” was released, so this new movie takes place 28 years after that, hence the title. In this installment, there are people living on an island in the UK, including Jamie, his wife Isla and their son Spike. Jamie and Spike go venture into mainland UK to forage for supplies so Spike can get his first kill of the infected. Things go sideways though and it changes Spike, as does a betrayal that Spike witnesses. On this week's almost-on-time New Flesh, Brett and Jesse spend an hour discussing 28 YEARS LATER after last week's double-feature on 28 DAYS LATER and 28 WEEKS LATER. Before that main event, plenty of horror news, including an update on SAW franchise.
We've got more zombies than you can shake a stick at this week on Breakfast All Day. First off, we review "28 Years Later," the long-awaited reunion of Danny Boyle and Alex Garland in a Britain plagued by rage virus. This is a non-spoiler review, but we're doing a live spoiler chat at our YouTube channel on Wednesday, June 25 at Noon Pacific, so check back with us then and share your thoughts. In theaters now. Then we catch up with the two films that preceded it: "28 Days Later" (2002) and "28 Weeks Later" (2007). We realized in retrospect that you don't need to have seen either of these movies to get into the new one, but we were glad to have the conversations. If you're looking for something a little more lighthearted for the whole family, there's "Elio," the latest animated adventure from Disney Pixar. It's a sweet, gentle film for these stressful times about a misfit kid who dreams of having aliens abduct him. This is minor Pixar, but it's beautiful. In theaters. Finally, we wrap up with a lengthy Movie News LIVE! Among the topics we discuss are the "Jaws" 50th anniversary, the "Brokeback Mountain" 20th anniversary, the trailer for the new Bruce Springsteen biopic "Deliver Me From Nowhere," and Francis Ford Coppola taking "Megalopolis" on the road. Thanks for joining us! Subscribe to Christy's Saturday Matinee newsletter: https://christylemire.beehiiv.com/
MUSIC Don't expect to see Metallica to go on a farewell tour, because guitarist Kirk Hammett doesn't believe musicians should ever stop honing their craft. Korn are going a bit old school in making their next album. Guitarist James "Munky" Shaffer tells the BBC, "We're doing it all on tape. We're all in the room, sweating it out. The tape is rolling. The guy gives us a thumbs up in the window, and we start playing. And all of us are locked in. And if we don't get it right, we rewind the tape and we do it again... Ford Motors is contributing $150,000 toward the completion of a statue honoring Tina Turner. TVAndy Cohen's Watch What Happens Live will continue on Bravo for at least two new seasons. Jeff Ross was diagnosed with colon cancer and needed surgery, last year. The final season of "Cobra Kai" was pretty satisfying. But if there's one thing that left fans wanting, it was the lack of a cameo from Hilary Swank. MOVING ON INTO MOVIE NEWS:"Bride Hard" (R) Trailer: An action comedy starring Rebel Wilson as a spy who fights off a group of mercenaries that crash her friend's wedding after she's been demoted from Maid of Honor. Her "Pitch Perfect" costar Anna Camp is the bride. The three other bridesmaids are Anna Chlumsky, Gigi Zumbado, and Da'Vine Joy Randolph. Pixar's "Elio" (PG) Trailer: Elio is an 11-year-old kid who tries to get himself abducted by aliens and then ends up with them mistakenly identifying him as Earth's ambassador. Zoe Saldana plays Elio's aunt, Jameela Jamil is a telepathic alien ambassador, and Brad Garrett is the warrior father of the worm-like alien Elio befriends. "28 Years Later" (R) Trailer 1 and Trailer 2: The sequel to 2002's "28 Days Later" and 2007's "28 Weeks Later" takes place three decades after the release of the rage virus. It focuses on a group of survivors that lives on a small island isolated from the mainland by a long causeway that only appears at low tide. Twelve years ago, James Howells of Newport, Wales, accidentally tossed out a hard drive holding 8000 Bitcoins – which is now worth over $740 million. Disney's announced that it will release an unnamed Marvel Studios movie on December 15th, 2028. Sometimes actors show up to a movie set, do their work, get paid . . . and then don't even appear in the movie because their part got cut. AND FINALLYShark movies that bite ... in a good way. Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water… today (Friday) is the 50th anniversary of Jaws. Other shark movies have been made, but none come close to the 1975 Spielberg classic.
