"Fuze" is a 2025 British crime thriller heist film directed by David Mackenzie and written by Ben Hopkins, starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Theo James, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, and Sam Worthington. Set in London, there is a citywide evacuation when an unexploded World War II bomb is unearthed at a busy construction site. Amid the escalating tension and chaos, a daring criminal operation is set in motion -- one that uses the evacuation as a cover for a meticulously planned bank heist. As authorities race against time to contain the crisis, alliances blur, and moral boundaries are crossed. The film premiered at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival, where it received positive reviews for its action, tension, twists, and muscular direction. Taylor-Johnson, Worthington, and Mackenzie were all kind enough to spend some time talking with us about their work and experiences making the film, which you can listen to below. If you're looking for an in-depth, warts-and-all biopic about the King of Pop, keep looking. If you want a slick, entertaining reenactment of some great music, then "Michael" is the movie for you. Jaafar Jackson is fine portraying his famous uncle Michael Jackson in this family-sanctioned overview of the first 20 years of Jackson's career. The movie seesaws between Jackson's relationship with his abusive dad, played by Coleman Domingo, and his electric stage performances. Keep your expectations low and the volume on high. From "The Most Dangerous Game" to "The Hunt,” there have been a lot of movies about humans hunting humans. The newest entry in this subgenre is the Netflix thriller, "Apex." Oscar-winner Charlize Theron plays an adventurer on a solo outing in the remote Australian wilderness who becomes the target of a deranged hunter, played by Taron Egerton. Director Baltasar Kormakur puts his stars through the ringer as he stages some impressive action sequences in this cat-and-mouse action flick. While more than competent, "Apex" has a grisly ugliness that can be a bit hard to stomach. “Desert Warrior” is a historical action flick that desperately wants to be “Lawrence of Arabia,” but falls somewhat short. Anthony Mackie plays a bandit who aids a princess caught between warring tribes in 7th century Arabia. It's well made but uninspired. “Fuze” is a taut, twisty British caper movie. Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Theo James and Sam Worthington star in a thriller about thieves who use the discovery of an unexploded WWII-era bomb in London's Paddington district as a distraction for an elaborate bank heist. “Fuze” won't light any fires but is a zippy bit of escapism.
Forget everything you know about the "Dark Universe"—Lee Cronin (Evil Dead Rise) is bringing us a version of The Mummy that is pure, unadulterated horror. This isn't an adventure romp; it's a claustrophobic, terrifying descent into ancient malice. We discuss if Cronin's signature "family horror" style works for this legendary monster.Fun Flix Fact: Lee Cronin is a stickler for practical effects. For the "sandstorm" sequences, the production reportedly used over 20 tonnes of dyed walnut shells instead of CGI to ensure the actors were actually struggling to breathe and move on camera. It gives the film a gritty, "in-your-teeth" texture you just can't fake!Next, we're shifting gears to the London-set heist thriller Fuze. Starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Theo James, the film follows a daring robbery that takes place during the chaos of a real-life unexploded World War II bomb discovery.Fun Flix Fact: Director David Mackenzie reunited with his Outlaw King lead, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, for this project. Mackenzie is a master of building slow-burn tension, and he used the "emptied" streets of London to create a strangely eerie, post-apocalyptic vibe for the heist.Production Trivia: The "bomb" used in the film was a meticulously detailed replica of a 500kg German SC500 bomb. The prop was so realistic that the production team had to keep it covered with tarps whenever they weren't filming to avoid causing a genuine public panic! To celebrate a decade of occult excellence, we're revisiting the 2016 Irish horror masterpiece A Dark Song. This isn't your typical "jump scare" movie; it's a grueling, slow-burn ritual that explores the absolute limits of human grief.Fun Flix Fact: The film was shot in a real, isolated country house in County Wicklow, Ireland. To keep the atmosphere authentic, the actors remained mostly isolated on-site throughout the shoot, mirroring the "sealing of the house" that takes place in the film. And if that's not enough entertainment for you, we've even thrown in new trailers to watch and what you can catch on streaming. You've been added to the group chat. Each week we invite our celebrity guests into the group chat and ask them your questions. Quick fire questions, honest answers. Anything goes in the group chat. This week we're sliding into the DMs with Theo James — the British actor you know and love from Divergent, The White Lotus, and The Gentlemen. He reveals the last time he had his heart broken, sets the record straight on whether he's actually posh and explains why he's gone completely off the social media grid. He also shares the advice he'd give his younger self: "Don't take yourself so seriously, don't compare yourself, and enjoy the moment."
From playing Club Rep in The Inbetweeners movie to the star of Divergent, The White Lotus, The Gentlemen, and now action thriller Fuze (out in cinemas now) — Theo James has quietly won us all over. In this chat with Josh, Theo opens up about the pressure of being a leading man in an industry obsessed with physicality, and why the rise of the manosphere worries him deeply. He reflects on a culture increasingly defined by money and status over relationships and morality — and what that means for young men today. He also gets candid about his short-lived music career, his UN Ambassador work with refugees, and fighting with Anthony Hopkins. We needed more spookies because the spookies we had made us feel spooked. So we did a roundup, but nobody wanted to try and edit this in a week to get it out with the others, so here we are, hanging out in April and wishing it was October.Buckle up for reviews on:The under-seen John Carpenter banger starring Sam Neil, "In the Mouth of Madness (1994)" in which a Stephen King type is unleashing an eldritch horror upon the world and the only question we have is DO YOU READ SUTTER KANE.Na Hong-jin's 2016 "The Wailing" follows a goofy police officer (Kwak Do-won) dealing with a village being overtaken by evil and fake prophets lurk in the wings to make things worse. What happens when the evil infection gets to his family? Find out, but also marvel at having to get intimate with your wife in your car in the driveway because too many people live in your home. The spanish language When Evil Lurks (Cuando acecha la maldad), follows a demon outbreak in a world where everyone knows about "The Rotten" and the dangers associated with them. In a film full of brain eating, what's the spookiest thing? Perhaps it's not listening to your elders, and Demián Salomon, Luis Ziembrowski, Silvia Sabater, Marcelo Michinaux all find out the hard way in Demián Rugna's 2023 gore fest.Joe DeBoer and Kyle McConaghy's 2024 "Dead Mail" follows wildly cool Jasper (Tomas Boykin), who traces dead mail in order to return it to the sender. After getting a blood soaked letter turned over to him, he gets moving on solving where it came from. Is it a hoax? Sterling Macer Jr. and John Fleck round out a low budget and infinitely creative horror flick.Scott Beck and Bryan Woods brought us the Hugh Grant showcase that is 2024's "Heretic". After two young missionaries (Sophie Thatcher and Chloe East) visit Grant's home in order to spread the good word, they realize they're locked in and have to have a face off to escape or else find out if there's a god monster in the basement or if the monster is right in front of them. At least there's blueberry muffins? Rounding out the Spooky Roundup is Oz Perkin's "The Monkey", a splatter fest full of comedy. Twin brothers find their missing dad's toy monkey and quickly realize it kills when it is wound up. The consequences follow them into their adulthood as they're both played by Theo James (from "The Gentlemen" show on Netflix) and an unbelievable mountain of death falls upon a town. Based on a short story from Stephen King, Tatiana Maslany ("Orphan Black"/"She Hulk"), Sarah Levy ("Schitt's Creek") and Adam Scott ("Severence") are along for the ride in Perkin's follow-up to the smash hit "Longlegs".If you like this, subscribe, rate, and if you review it on a podcasting platform, mention a movie you want us to cover in said review and you get a video just like this one. The Wildest Films You've Ever Seen. [19:02 - 32:45] Finally, we have an extended excerpt from our Ready Or Not: Here I Come spoiler special interview [34:18 - 52:52 approx] with that film's directors, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, which features strong, unbleeped language from the off, as well as a deep dive into that movie's twists and turns. So be advised! And also, of course, enjoy.

We've an actual, bona fide Hollywood movie star on the podcast this week: Professor X himself, James McAvoy. At this year's Glasgow Film Festival, the PR gods granted us ten meagre minutes with McAvoy to discuss his directorial debut, the boisterous stranger-than-fiction tale California Schemin', about two lads from Dundee who convinced the London music industry they were a rapping duo from LA. McAvoy is joined by one of his film's stars, Lucy Halliday, and they discuss the Scottish accent, McAvoy's filmmaking influences and how he goes about directing his fellow actors. On the review front, meanwhile, we discuss two very different new features. One is Orwell: 2+2=5, Raoul Peck's serious-minded essay film on George Orwell and how his writing predicted the double-speak of the modern world. The other is Fuze, David Mackenzie's fat-free thriller set in contemporary London starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Theo James trying out a rather silly accent. Welcome back to the SLMan Podcast! In the first episode of 2026, Harvey James is joined by SLMan contributors Frankie Foster and Tunde Ogunsina to chat cold-weather outfits, the cultural moments they can't stop thinking about and what they've been loving lately – from Frankie's unexpected drawing era to Tunde's latest TV obsessions and an elite January indulgence: a cheese subscription. The conversation then turns to the headlines, including Bruno Mars' upcoming UK tour, swirling James Bond rumours (hello, Callum Turner and Theo James) and a Liverpool versus Arsenal moment that sparked serious debate. The team also share what's on their fashion wish lists before Harvey drops the biggest news of all – the arrival of baby Casper (stay tuned for some genuinely useful hospital tips). Kim tells Ket the second half of The Monkey. We get to the bottom of Kim's shockingly incorrect account of Theo James' attractiveness. We can call off the 5150 for that. We also appreciate that Osgood Perkins feels we've earned some fun after the Pretty Things That Live Under The Stairs in The Blackcoat's Daughters' Closets of Longlegs. Most importantly, we'll learn if Ket will live or die in The Monkey.Dir. Kim tells Ket about The Monkey starring Tatiana Maslany (yay!), Adam Scott (Ket's old flame*) and Theo James (hubba hubba). Kim comes in with a completely incorrect opinion about Theo James - Bimberly must be fully sucking the life out of her brain. Ket comes in with a bad attitude and homicidal tendencies. It's just Kevin and Andrew this week, but that doesn't leave us lacking for content. this week, the guys watched Weapons, War of the Worlds, Trainwreck: Storm Area 51, and The Monkey. In a rare event, Kevin made it to the theater for a non-family film! But he still took a family member, so that's something. But I digress... He and his son ventured to the theater for the new film, Weapons. The latest horror flick from the director that brought you Barbarian is a really solid film and a must-see in the theater if horror is your jam. The story is interesting and creative, and the final act is absolutely nuts, being both horrific and laugh-inducing at the same time. Definitely see this one as soon as you can! Next up, the guys take you on a trip to sad town. Both of them watched War of the Worlds on Prime, and the consensus is... this movie absolutely sucks! How a movie was made for $65M and stars Ice Cube and Eva Longoria and is completely abysmal is almost baffling. There is really no telling where that money went, other than to Amazon branding. Someone is very rich after making this film, but the term we'd use for this sort of money-making scheme is embezzlement. Ok, that's an unsubstantiated guess, but we invite you to watch this film and figure out anywhere else that money could have gone. But actually, don't watch this film. This is one of those "we watched it so you don't have to" moments on APNC. In a much better turn, the guys watched Trainwreck: Storm Area 51. This one is the rare multi-part Trainwreck series and is well worth the watch. If you don't remember, several years back, a young man jokingly posted a Facebook event to storm Area 51. This somehow snowballed into a massive worldwide event and ended in... well, watch the episode to find out! It's a great cautionary tale of how something that should be inconsequential can take on a life of it's own become, possibly, even dangerous. Kevin closes out the show with a review of the movie, The Monkey, now streaming on Hulu. This is classic cheesy horror at its finest. The story isn't overly deep or complicated. The characters are fun but also not complicated. The kills have a very "Final Destination" feel to them, and the movie really is just a lot of fun. Theo James does a great job in dual roles, somehow being nerdy but also a total d-bag. If you like your horror fun and bloody, this is a great one! As always, thank you for watching. If you haven't already, don't forget to Like & Subscribe. We love new viewers! Also, leave us comments and let is know how we are doing and what we can be doing better. Director Osgood Perkins is back after last year's sleeper hit Longlegs (2024)! This time he's adapting a 1980 short story by Stephen King called "The Monkey" featuring a cursed monkey toy. Theo James and Theo James star as twin brothers who face random horrific deaths due to the monkey toy. The movie also stars Tatiana Maslany, Christian Convery, Colin O'Brien, Rohan Campbell, Sarah Levy, Adam Scott, and Elijah Wood. It got decent enough reviews and good box office. This is our third Oz Perkins film that we've covered and we'll let you know how his career is progressing!
Andrew and Scotty find an old organ grinder monkey in the closet and start turning it's crank to see what happens as they discuss Osgood Perkins' adaptation of Stephen King's short story, "The Monkey". They also read a couple of Spotify comments, talk about movies recently watched, and as always, stay tuned until the end of the episode to hear what Scotty has chosen for their next movie."The Monkey" stars Theo James as a pair of twins who find an old wind-up monkey that randomly kills someone every time it plays its drum.Feel free to send us a message!
