In this Bible Story, we see Elisha avoid the wrath of the armies of Aram. The Lord confuses them, and lures them into a trap by blinding them to the identity of Elisha. He leads them into the capital of Israel, where they are at the mercy of the king's army. However, instead of killing them they show mercy. As a result, Aram and Israel live at peace with one another. This story is inspired by 2 Kings 6:8-23. Food became so scarce that women were eating their children. Furious, the King sent for Elisha to be killed. When the King's Commander arrived to lure him out, he received word from Elisha of God's miraculous deliverance. Is there a connection between faith and fishing? Dozens of times throughout the Bible, God talks about fish, fishing, and fishermen. Four of Jesus' disciples were professional fishermen, and today calls all His followers to become “fishers of men.” In this special summer edition, Rob Rienow talks with Joe Simonds from SaltStrong.com and the Salt Strong Unchurched Podcast. In this Bible Story, we see Jesus through the eyes of Peter. His mighty works of healing and acts of compassion bring Peter to his knees. He truly sees that Jesus is a man worth following, and he would soon come to the understanding that Jesus is God himself. This story is inspired by Matthew 8:14-17, Mark 1:22-38, Luke 4:31-44, Luke 5:1-11. Go to BibleinaYear.com and learn the Bible in a Year.Today's Bible verse is Luke 5:10 from the King James Version.Episode 181: After a long night of no catches, Peter and his brother Andrew were getting ready to go ashore. Just as they were getting ready to turn in, Jesus came to them asking to use their boat as a platform to teach from. After He was done, Jesus told Peter and Andrew that if they went back out into deeper waters they would catch fish. Though there may have been some reluctance, Peter obeyed and to his amazement, they took in a catch so big that the nets began to break. This got Peter's attention. Later that week, as Jesus was walking around Galilee, a leper approached Him and begged Jesus to cleanse him. Breaking all convention Jesus touched the man and he was made clean!Hear the Bible come to life as Pastor Jack Graham leads you through the official BibleinaYear.com podcast. One of the most common conditions men deal with today is anxiety. Studies show that men and women handle anxiety differently - from how they react to it to how they try to deal with it. In this episode, Dave and Dante discuss the topic of anxiety and the need for men to fix themselves first before trying to go out and fish for other men. We don't need to have everything right, but if anxiety is hampering your spirit, then it's important to fill your cup first before trying to pour into others. Listen in and enjoy the short conversation! Legacy Dads is proud to be partnered with the Christian Parenting Network of podcasts. Episode Notes Hitting a brick wall trying to witness to someone? Listen to this. Jesus' parallel of fishermen teaches us an important lesson in our role as becoming "fishers of men." A good fisherman understands fishing is about a struggle, and if the fish gives up on this struggle, it is reeled in. In this same way, we are to approach reaching people. Join me in this teaching LIVE as we talk more about reaching even the hardest of hearts with the gospel!
The disciples were called to be fishers of men… so are we.
February 27, 2022 – Message from Pastor Josh Bevan Main Scripture Passage: Matthew 4:1-22 Topic: Casting Nets Series: The Gospel According to Matthew
Demonstrating Love in Discipleship: Ways it can go wrong and ways it can go right. Join us for part 2 in "Fishing for Men"
Exhausted after a night of fishing and coming up empty, Peter and his partners were ashore, cleaning their nets and looking forward to a good night's sleep. After preaching to a crowd by the lakeshore, Jesus told Peter to sail to deep waters and put out those newly cleaned nets. Against his better judgment, since he and his companions had fished all night and come up empty, Peter did as Jesus suggested and hauled in a miraculously abundant catch. Awed and afraid in the presence of the Holy, Peter acknowledges his sinfulness. "Do not be afraid," Jesus told him, "from now on, you will be fishing for men," At once, Peter left everything to follow Jesus. Jesus calls us, as he called Peter, to leave worldliness behind, follow Him, and go fishing!
It's a new season! Resolutions have been set. Tune in as we dive a little into discipleship, what it looks like and some tips on how it's done. You'll catch some great examples and some of our experiences.
How often do we hesitate to follow Jesus? What would it look like to respond immediately to Jesus, instead of telling Him "I'll get to that in a little bit?" This week, Zach preaches about how Jesus is always worth it, and how following Him means responding "at once." A relationship with Jesus is wonderful, but this world is also full of people that need to know the Gospel. We are called to say "yes" to Jesus and "fish for people." (10/31/21)
This message continues last week's message looking at how it is important that we first learn to follow Christ and then become a fisher of men.
This message is about the need to surrender to Christ's leadership in order to become a fisher of men.
