Yonah Jeremy Bob on the Mossad's Secret War on Iran

On February 28, 2026, Ali Khamenei was assassinated. He was killed in a joint American and Israeli airstrike, in a bunker so deep the elevator took five minutes to reach it, at a meeting with senior advisers whose location intelligence services had tracked for months. The infrastructure that made this targeted assassination possible—the human networks engaged in the patient penetration of one of the most hostile intelligence environments on earth—had been built over more than two decades. Today, Yonah Jeremy Bob joins Mosaic's editor Jonathan Silver to delve into how the Mossad build that infrastructure. Bob is the senior military and intelligence analyst for the Jerusalem Post and has deep access to the Israeli intelligence community. His book Target Tehran, co-authored with Ilan Evyatar and published by Simon & Schuster in 2023, was named a top book of the year by the Wall Street Journal. When Prime Minister Netanyahu was photographed in his war room during Operation Midnight Hammer in June 2025, a copy of Target Tehran was visible on the table in front of him. Bob also has a forthcoming book with the Wall Street Journal's Elliot Kaufman, titled In the War Room: The Inside Story of Israel's Fight Against Hamas and the Iranian Axis. Before the airstrikes, there was a decades-long effort to recruit agents inside the nuclear program, to infiltrate Iran's supply chains, and to track and, when necessary, to assassinate the Iranian officials and weapons producers who posed the greatest threat to Israel and America. This episode examines three operations in depth—the 2018 theft of Iran's nuclear archive, the assassination of the weapons-program chief Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, and the infiltration of the supply chain for the Natanz nuclear complex—and asks what Israeli human intelligence is contributing to Operations Roaring Lion and Epic Fury. What if Megillat Esther is not the most hidden book in Tanakh, but the most brilliantly written one? Secrets of the Scroll--a series produced for this Purim and hosted by Rabbanit Shani Taragin--presents the book of Esther as a text written in code. A story where God is hidden, miracles are quiet, and redemption unfolds through courage, strategy, and deep biblical memory. This is not a surface level Purim series. It is a journey into the inner language of Tanakh and into the heart of what it means to survive, believe, and interpret. This was episode 13 of the 20-part series, wherein our podcast host, Dr. Yosefa Fogel Wruble, spoke with Rabbanit Shani Taragin about reluctant redeemers like Yonah and Esther who must be pushed into their role in history.

Four classical Jewish sources, spanning nearly two thousand years, foretell a cataclysmic war involving Persia (Iran) at the End of Days. These are not vague allusions. They are specific, detailed, and converging on the very geopolitical reality unfolding before our eyes. 1. Pesikta Rabbati, Piska 36 “Rabbi Yitzchak said: The year in which the King Mashiach is revealed, all the kings of the nations will provoke one another. The King of Persia will provoke the King of Arabia…and the entire world will be thrown into panic and confusion.” 2. Talmud Bavli, Yoma 10a The Gemara records a dispute regarding a prophesied war between Persia and Rome at the End of Days. One opinion holds that Persia will fall to Rome; the other holds that Rome will fall to Persia. The passage establishes that a decisive confrontation between these two civilizations must precede the arrival of Mashiach. 3. Tosafot, Avodah Zarah 2b The succinct 7 line Tosafot o details how Edom will squash Persia. Their downfall clears the stage for Redemption as this final event precedes Mashiach's imminent arrival 4. Kli Paz — Rav Shmuel Laniado (1603–1657), Commentary on Isaiah 34:6 Writing over four hundred years ago, this great Mekubal of Aleppo identified “Bozrah” in Isaiah's prophecy as the Hormuz. He declared that a “great slaughter” (Iran) would take place there at the End of Days, and sealed his words with a blessing: “Happy is the one who understands this sign before the Redemption.” On this show, Tamar speaks with Reb Doniel Stochel, author of the upcoming book: 'THE FINAL REDEMPTION' as he takes us through prophetic sources of what we might expect, especially concerning Iran, and the Final Redemption. Have any questions, insights, or feedback? Send me a text!Length: 1 hour 59 minutesSynopsis: This evening (2/5/25), in our Thursday night women's shiur, we embarked toward an unknown destination, though in very specific waters. Our goal was to understand Rabbeinu Yonah's take on bitachon (trust, or security, in God). Our journey began with his essay-like commentaries on Mishlei, chapter 3. Tonight, we learned his beautifully nuanced interpretation of Mishlei 3:5, which, in an unplanned detour, we contrasted with the jaw-droppingly abhorrent take presented in The Garden of Emuna (ימח שמו). Many of our questions were left unanswered by design, because Rabbeinu Yonah has much more to say. Still, I'm happy with where we landed in understanding his view of Mishlei's fundamental stance on bitachon.-----מקורות:משלי ג:א-ימשלי כא:ל-לארבינו יונה - משלי ג:הרד"ק - ירמיהו יז:ה-חShalom Arush, "The Garden of Emuna: A Practical Guide to Life" (NOT intended as an endorsement, chas v'shalom)-----The Torah content for the month of February is sponsored by the Koffsky family in memory of Adira Rose Koffsky a”h, whose third yahrzeit is on the 11th of Shvat. In many ways, this was a follow-up to our Rambam Shiur on friendship, both because I originally intended to cover Rabbeinu Yonah in that shiur, and because Rabbeinu Yonah complements the Rambam. We ended up building on the foundation of the previous shiur, but this one can still be listened to as a standalone. I found Rabbeinu Yonah's focus to be a bit more practical in its orientation than the Rambam's, but if you're only gonna listen to one, it should definitely be the Rambam!-----מקורות:אבות א:ורמב"םרבינו יונהיין לבנוןרבינו יונה - משלי טו:כב; יז:ט-----The Torah content for the remainder of January is sponsored by Naomi Schwartz in memory of her father, Dovid Yitzchok ben Chaim Yeruchum Fishel z”l, who dedicated his life to learning and teaching Torah to countless students b'simcha. Why does the collapse of Maduro's regime in Venezuela send shockwaves all the way to China, Iran, and Russia? What connects these distant powers? And what direction will America now take with the likes of Zohran Kwame Mamdani commanding New York City, and President Trump commanding U.S. foreign policy? We discuss: • The U.S. seizure of Nicolás Maduro — a justified action or an illegal abduction? • Trump declares he's “Locked & Loaded” in support of the Iranian revolutionaries — will there be a war between the Mullahs in Iran and the United States? • Will Jews leave New York and move to Israel now that Mamdani has taken power? Tamar speaks with Dr. Benedict Beckeld (www.BenedictBeckeld.com ) — philosopher and expert on Oikophobia — in this case, the current Western trend of despising one's own culture while praising others. What is causing the West's decline in spiritual values, and do Western societies feel guilty for their prosperity? How and why could this shape the future of global freedom and cultural continuity? The answer matters for people everywhere on the planet. The Tamar Yonah Show 04JAN2026 - PODCAST

"On October 7th 2023, thousands of terrorists from Gaza stormed and destroyed nearby communities, murdering and taking hostages at will. But in Ein Habesor, something very different happened: Ordinary citizens armed with their personal firearms managed to fight and repel waves of heavily armed terrorists. Their actions saved their entire village from certain massacre." "When terrorists attack, every second counts!" Zagdanski says. Sefer Yonah | Chapter 3, by Rav Yitzchak Etshalom Why did the king of Nineveh respond so quickly and so forcefully to Yonah's declaration?  As we continue our study of Sefer Yonah, we note the many peculiarities of the narrative in chapter 3. In only 10 verses, it tells us of Yonah's immensely successful prophetic mission to Nineveh, where his simple cry elicits immediate fasting, mourning and (apparently) heartfelt repentance on the part of the Ninevites. We note the striking parallels between the first narrative - on the boat - and this one and how in each case, the foreign audience (sailors, Ninevites) serve as helpful background players and throughout the story, the real character is Yonah himself. Some of the questions that we have raised will be addressed in the final installment of this mini-series.
