This week, Pastor Nate continues the Can We Talk!? series with a message that calls us to look in the mirror and change our ways.This powerful message confronts us with one of the most uncomfortable yet necessary spiritual practices: honest self-examination. Drawing from 2 Samuel 12, we witness the dramatic confrontation between the prophet Nathan and King David after David's devastating sins of adultery with Bathsheba and the murder of her husband Uriah. The brilliance of Nathan's approach teaches us something profound about conviction—he presents David with a parable about a rich man who steals a poor man's only lamb, and David, blinded to his own guilt, pronounces harsh judgment on the offender. Only then does Nathan deliver the crushing revelation: "You are the man." This narrative exposes our human tendency to clearly see injustice in others while remaining blind to our own failings. We learn that unrepentant sin doesn't just affect us—it ripples through generations, as David's household experienced ongoing consequences despite his eventual repentance. The message challenges us to stop waiting for God to expose our hidden sins and instead develop the spiritual maturity to look honestly in the mirror, confess what we find there, and return to God before judgment becomes necessary. David's story reminds us that being forgiven doesn't always mean escaping consequences, but it does mean we can still worship God even in the midst of painful outcomes we've brought upon ourselves.

No one's ever seen or heard anything like this — What God has arranged for those who love him. But you've seen and heard it because God by his Spirit has brought it all out into the open before you.

God has given to you everything pertaining to life and godliness. The Spirit of God will show this greater reality to you as you grow in your relationship with Him.

Your true identity is hidden beneath the surface. It is not accessed through the five senses or the natural mind. Your true identity is revealed by the Spirit of God through the Word of God. 

In 1988, Michael Jackson released the iconic song “Man in the Mirror.” It tells the story of someone who grows tired of turning a blind eye to the world's suffering. He realizes that looking out the window at everyone else's problems is not enough. To make a real difference, he has to start with the person he sees in the mirror. This powerful shift from observation to conviction is a profound spiritual truth. If we want to see transformation in our lives and in the world, we cannot just point fingers. We must begin with self-examination.Jesus tells a similar story about a young man who had to look in the mirror. After squandering his inheritance in a distant land, the prodigal son hits rock bottom. It is only when he is broke, alone, and humbled that the Bible says, “he came to himself.” In that moment of clarity, he saw the gap between who he had become and who he was created to be. This story is not just an ancient parable; it is a picture of our own capacity to lose our way. But more importantly, it is a powerful reminder that no matter how far we have gone, we can always turn around and come home.

Four key actions shape faithful living: admitting what is true, submitting to God's authority, committing wholeheartedly to Jesus, and transmitting that truth to others. Your identity in Christ is not based on your performance but on the finished work of Jesus on the cross. That identity should shape how you lead your home, raise your children, serve your church, and conduct yourself at work. Satan actively attacks your sense of who you are in Christ, but the shield of faith stands against every one of those lies. The question is not whether you have heard the truth. The question is what you will do with it today.

The Holy Spirit's role in your life is to reveal to you who Jesus is, what He's done for you, and who you are in Him.

This message from Gene Smith on Wednesday, June 3rd 2026 challenges us to do something many of us avoid: look honestly in the mirror of God's Word and examine our hearts. Drawing from Psalm 139:23-24 and 2 Corinthians 13:5, we're confronted with the uncomfortable truth that while we're quick to judge others, we often fail to examine ourselves. The sermon uses the metaphor of a mirror throughout, reminding us that just as a physical mirror reveals every imperfection, blemish, and unwanted hair, God's Word acts as a spiritual mirror that exposes our motives, intentions, pride, and hidden sin. The foundation metaphor is particularly striking: just as a building's foundation must be properly prepared and mixed, our spiritual foundation—our heart—must be right with God. We can look perfect on the outside, attend church, say the right things, and perform religious acts, yet if our hearts harbor bitterness, unforgiveness, or pride, we're spiritually bankrupt. The message calls us to move beyond surface-level Christianity and allow God to search us thoroughly, not to shame us but to transform us. When we get our hearts right, everything else—holiness, love, obedience—flows naturally. This isn't about forced compliance but about falling so deeply in love with Jesus that change becomes inevitable and authentic.

The glory of God in a person's life is the result of the confidence they have in God's goodness and faithfulness. It is confidence in Him that brings out our true identity.

Meditating in the Word of God produces life-giving transformation in us and in our lives. When we realize that the Bible is living, God speaking to us now, It's living impact begins to be seen in us.
