Send us a textWe open with discussion around the NFL Network draft graphic that referenced Joe Schoen as likely remaining with the Giants through the draft, and why that wording matters as losses continue to stack up. The conversation centers on whether ownership truly plans to keep Schoen regardless of record and how a future head coaching hire could influence that decision. We then break down news that Marcus Freeman informed NFL teams he is staying at Notre Dame after restructuring his contract, officially removing himself from the Giants' potential coaching search and narrowing the realistic options going forward. The rest of the episode is a full Week 17 game-by-game recap. We cover the Christmas slate, Saturday matchups, and Sunday action with a focus on key moments, late fourth-down decisions, two-point conversion attempts, and coaching choices that directly decided outcomes. The show includes the Giants' win over the Raiders, highlighted by a momentum-changing kick return touchdown, two quarterback rushing scores, and Wan'Dale Robinson surpassing 1,000 receiving yards on the season.Outro: Thank you for listening to 2 Giants Goofballs: New York Giants News & Updates! Send us a textGiants vs Raiders might be the strangest game of the season, with draft position looming larger than the final score and neither fanbase feeling great about a win.Giants fans, do you want this team to win or lose this game? Drop your answer in the comments and make sure you're subscribed so you don't miss our live breakdowns all week. This episode breaks down Giants vs Raiders as a potential battle for the first overall pick, including why Las Vegas' offense has completely collapsed statistically despite passing at one of the highest rates in the league. We dig into how the Raiders are dead last in points per game and yards per game, why their short passing attack hasn't protected the quarterback, and how constant pressure and interceptions have defined their season. Geno Smith's numbers, Brock Bowers' breakout, and the misuse of the Raiders' run game all factor into whether this matchup stays ugly or turns chaotic late. From there, we pivot into the full Christmas Day NFL slate, starting with Cowboys at Commanders and whether Washington can avoid the explosive mistakes that buried them in the first meeting. We examine the massive total, short-week injury concerns, and whether this becomes another shootout or a controlled reset. Lions at Vikings brings the revenge angle and the injury-driven betting shift, with quarterback uncertainty and protection issues driving the conversation. Broncos at Chiefs might be the weirdest betting line of the season, with Kansas City as massive home underdogs and a total that screams defensive slugfest.Saturday's games bring their own drama. Texans at Chargers is a one-score script defined by offensive line injuries and playoff history, while Ravens at Packers hinges entirely on quarterback health and whether this turns into a field-position battle instead of an explosive matchup. Every game is framed with spreads, totals, injuries, and one clear debate angle so Giants fans can argue the games instead of just reacting to them.Thank you for watching and supporting 2 Giants Goofballs: New York Giants News & Updates! Welcome to the fifth series in the annual podcast programme from Academic Archers, bringing you papers from our 2024 conference. Please note: since this recording, one of the speakers, Emily Baker, has sadly passed away. Emily was a cherished member of the Academic Archers community: generous, witty, and intellectually sharp. Her contributions across many conferences and conversations enriched us all, and her presence is deeply missed. This episode stands as part of the legacy she leaves with us.This episode explores the music of Ambridge's tearoom, the role of playlists in public spaces, and the subtle ways that background music shapes social life and character development.Tunes and transitions at the tearoom - Emily Baker and Freya Jarman Apart from the Hollerton Silver Band at the summer fete, the most reliable place to find music in Ambridge is the tearoom. Whether with Victoria sponge or carrot cake, Fallon has always soothed her customers with culinary and auditory delights. But Natasha's new regime threatens the soundtrack as well as the furniture.Under Fallon, the tearoom soundtrack—Perry Como, Doris Day, dance band classics—conjures the BBC's Light Programme and speaks both to the room's cosy character and to the shifting lives of its patrons. It has functioned as Ambridge's therapeutic backdrop: a place where life's transitions can be digested with a cuppa and a muted trumpet.Playlists are, of course, essential to ambience. From Starbucks soundscapes to classical music in bus stations, scholars have noted how background music shapes behaviour and mood. What happens, then, when Natasha replaces Doris Day with Dido in an effort to “upscale” the tearoom's soundworld? Will the playlist still act as the unconscious of Ambridge, or will it jar with village life? This paper asks how music mediates the tearoom as a social space, reflecting both nostalgia and change.About the speakersEmily Baker (University of Sussex) was - and will always be remenbered as - an insightful and creative researcher whose work spanned music, culture, and everyday life. She was also a warm and generous presence within the Academic Archers community, inspiring others through her intellect, humour, and friendship.Dr Freya Jarman SFHEA is Reader in the Department of Music at the University of Liverpool. Their work spans popular music studies, gender and queer theory, pedagogy, and music in everyday life.If you enjoy our work and would like to support Academic Archers, you can Buy Us a Coffee – buymeacoffee.com/academicarchers.
What if one of the most famous monsters in the world…wasn't just a legend of the mountains - but the centerpiece of a secret Cold War operation?High in the Himalayas - where the air thins, the snow never melts, and the mountains feel ancient and alive - Sherpas whisper about screams echoing across the ridgelines.About something powerful enough to snap a yak's neck with a single blow.About a creature that walks like a man… but is anything but human. For centuries, locals have known it by another name: the Yeti. This week, we ascend into the frozen heart of the Rooftop of the World to explore the legend of the Abominable Snowman — from ancient Tibetan tapestries and monastery relics, to chilling eyewitness encounters, to the famous footprints photographed on Himalayan glaciers. But the mystery doesn't end in the snow.Because in the 1950s, as the world edged closer to nuclear war, the Yeti attracted the attention of a Texas oil heir named Tom Slick — a millionaire adventurer, monster hunter, and possible CIA asset who funded multiple expeditions into Nepal, attempted to trap the creature alive, and smuggled alleged Yeti remains out of the Himalayas… with the help of Hollywood legend Jimmy Stewart.Together, we'll trace the tangled trail of folklore, footprints, secret missions, and unexplained deaths that make this one of the strangest stories we've ever covered.

Send us a textThis episode breaks down how the New York Giants can create real 2026 cap space and reshape the roster before more than twenty players hit free agency. Base projections put the Giants between seventeen and twenty-eight million under the 2026 cap, but targeted veteran cuts could increase that total dramatically. Moving on from Jon Runyan Jr would clear more than nine million, Bobby Okereke another nine, James Hudson more than five, Graham Gano four and a half, and Devin Singletary more than five million. Together, those moves create more than thirty-three million in space before even touching restructures or extensions. With players like Wan'Dale Robinson, Micah McFadden, Cor'Dale Flott, Jermaine Eluemunor, Daniel Bellinger, Dane Belton, and several others scheduled for free agency in 2026, these decisions will define the shape of the team going forward. We also preview the Giants' Week 15 matchup against the Washington Commanders. Washington enters on an eight-game losing streak and is fresh off a 31–0 loss to Minnesota. Jayden Daniels is out again after aggravating last week's injury, giving Marcus Mariota another start. Washington's passing attack has struggled all year, averaging under two hundred yards per game, while the run game has remained strong even after losing Austin Ekeler in Week 2 to an Achilles tear. Their defense has been one of the league's weakest, allowing more than twenty-seven points and nearly four hundred yards per game, and injuries have hit every level of the unit. Dorance Armstrong, Javontae Jean-Baptiste, and Deatrich Wise Jr are out, Drake Jackson is questionable, and the secondary is missing Marshon Lattimore and Trey Amos with Jonathan Jones also banged up. This matchup gives the Giants an opportunity to evaluate who is still competing for a role in 2026 once the cap decisions begin.Thank you for listening and supporting 2 Giants Goofballs: New York Giants News & Updates! Welcome to the fifth series in the annual podcast programme from Academic Archers, bringing you papers from our 2024 conference. Please note: the sound quality on this recording is not as clear as usual. We apologise for this and thank you for your understanding. This episode tells the story of Barwick Green, from obscurity to becoming the alternative national anthem. From Obscurity to Alternative Nation Anthem: The Story of Barwick Green - Sally CadleA hundred years after Barwick Green was first performed by the Court Symphony Orchestra at the Royal Hall, Harrogate, this paper explores the life and work of its largely forgotten composer, Arthur Wood. Drawing on sources including insights from former members of The Archers production team and cast, Sally explains how and why this little-known piece of music became the theme for an everyday story of country folk. The paper also examines other appearances of Barwick Green in film, television, literature and media, tracing how these uses over the last 70 years have cemented its iconic status. Finally, Sally considers the different arrangements heard on The Archers – and some that were never used – to shed new light on the worldwide recognition of this familiar tune.About the speakerSally Cadle has been listening to The Archers since childhood and has contributed to Academic Archers since the first conference, where she famously introduced knitting. Now a respected member of the Saturday Ambridgeology Study Society, her research covers a range of Archers-related topics. Beyond Ambridge, Sally knits, weaves, and makes costumes for her local community theatre. She once received a Police Commissioners Commendation for her quick response and first aid skills following a major stabbing. If you enjoy our work and would like to support Academic Archers, you can Buy Us a Coffee – buymeacoffee.com/academicarchers.
Send us a textThe Giants officially fired Assistant Defensive Line Coach Bryan Cox, ending a turbulent stretch for a defense that has struggled badly against the run. We break down why the move happened now, what it signals for Andre Patterson and the rest of the defensive staff, and how it may affect the locker room and offseason coaching search. We also dive into Jaxson Dart's escalating Rookie of the Year momentum. National analysts are pointing to how his accuracy, poise, and offensive impact have turned the Giants into one of the most intriguing coaching opportunities heading into 2025. Dart's rise is changing how the league views the Giants' long-term trajectory. Finally, we run through a complete NFL weekly recap packed with major storylines: Detroit pounding Dallas behind Jahmyr Gibbs, Seattle blowing out Atlanta, Buffalo staging a wild comeback, the Saints upsetting the Buccaneers, Houston stunning Kansas City as Patrick Mahomes throws three interceptions, and a full look at how the week reshaped playoff races across both conferences. We apologise for this and thank you for your understanding. This episode explores what it means to live in a neurodiverse household, and why accurate representation of neurodiversity in The Archers storylines matters.Living in a Neurodiverse Household: Why Accurate Representation in Storylines Makes a Difference - Andrea HartDrawing on her own family's experiences, Andrea considers how neurodiversity can be part of The Archers without ever being the only story. Scenarios range from how Lower Loxley might handle a job applicant with dyspraxia, to what happens if Pip is asked to seek a dyslexia assessment for Rosie, or how Emma and Will might navigate an autism diagnosis for Kiera. She also reflects on the quirks of everyday neurodiverse life – such as owning 13 scientific calculators or tracking life events on an Excel spreadsheet – and how these realities could enrich the drama. The paper suggests that the long-form writing of The Archers, where stories unfold over years, is uniquely suited to portraying neurodiversity with authenticity and depth.About the speakerAndrea Hart lives in a neurodiverse household and uses this lived experience to highlight why authentic representation matters. Skepticism Over China's Renewed Promise to Buy US Farm Products — John Batchelor, Gordon Chang, Alan Tonelson — Chang and Tonelson express skepticism regarding China's latest promises to expand American agricultural purchases, particularly soybeans, reiterating unfulfilled commitments from the 2020 Phase One trade agreement. Tonelson cites China's well-documented history of violating trade commitments and bilateral agreements. Batchelorraises concern that agricultural sector lobbying is disproportionately influencing American trade policy, potentially obscuring critical deficiencies in US manufacturing competitiveness and structural national security vulnerabilities. 1959

Welcome to the fifth series in the annual podcast programme from Academic Archers, bringing you papers from our 2024 conference. Please note: the sound quality on this recording is not as clear as usual. We apologise for this and thank you for your understanding. This episode continues an intergenerational exploration of the Aldridge family, turning the focus to Kate Madikane. It is not in the stars to hold our destiny but in ourselves - Helen Burrows and Louise GilliesFollowing earlier studies of the Aldridge family genogram, Helen Burrows and Louise Gillies now turn to Kate, the unconventional middle child. Unlike Debbie and Adam, whose lives are grounded in farming, or Alice with her equestrian focus, Kate has always walked her own path. From a troubled adolescence to a succession of difficult relationships, she now appears to be moving into a more settled phase. This paper explores what makes Kate who she is. From a psychological angle, her behaviour displays traits that echo ADHD characteristics. Yet knowing Kate, she would likely reject such categorisation. The authors therefore also consider alternative frameworks she might embrace herself, examining how her strongly ‘New Age' outlook shapes her decisions, her relationships, and her role within Ambridge life.Helen Burrows Helen is a retired consultant psychiatrist who specialised in child and adolescent mental health. She has a long-standing interest in how early experiences shape personality and behaviour, and enjoys applying psychological frameworks to the lives of Ambridge residents. She has been a listener to The Archers for decades and values the Academic Archers project as a way of combining professional insight with fandom.Louise Gillies Louise has a background in clinical psychology and education. She has worked in both NHS and academic settings, with a focus on neurodiversity and the ways in which different psychological theories can shed light on everyday lives. A dedicated Archers fan, she brings both professional expertise and listener curiosity to her contributions to Academic Archers. If you enjoy our work and would like to support Academic Archers, you can Buy Us a Coffee – buymeacoffee.com/academicarchers.
Some adventures feel almost dreamlike—where even in the moment, you know you'll remember every detail. That was Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef for us. After sailing up from Tasmania, we arrived in the tropical north of Australia, where palm trees frame the marina and the Coral Sea glows in every shade of blue. Cairns practically invites adventure, and for us, the Great Barrier Reef was the moment we'd been waiting for. We booked a small-group snorkel trip heading out to Upolu Reef—and what we found there was unforgettable. Vibrant coral, giant clams the size of a loveseat, clownfish, sea turtles… and we were merely visitors in their world. But the adventure didn't end in Cairns. As the sun set and we sailed away, we began a new chapter—five full days at sea. Just us, the Crown Princess with 3000 of our newest friends, and the wide-open ocean… while a Category 4 cyclone churned only a couple hundred kilometers away near Darwin. This episode is all about that contrast: the wonder of the reef and the vast quiet of days spent crossing open water. Some links are affiliate links. See our disclosure. Send us a textThe Giants enter Week 12 with one of their most concerning injury reports of the season, and the Lions are dealing with their own serious issues. In this episode, we break down every major injury on both rosters — who practiced, who didn't, who is trending up, and who may miss the game entirely. With key defenders like Paulson Adebo, Cor'Dale Flott, and Kayvon Thibodeaux dealing with injuries, plus offensive contributors fighting through hamstring and hip issues, the Giants have major questions to answer. Detroit is no healthier, with Terrion Arnold in concussion protocol, Kerby Joseph expected to miss the game, and several offensive linemen limited. After a full breakdown of what these injuries mean for Sunday's matchup, we move into our straight-up Week 12 NFL picks, analyzing each game based on matchups, trends, coaching factors, and momentum. Whether you're focused on Giants news or looking for a full league breakdown, this episode delivers strong insight and fan-first commentary.Thank you for watching and supporting 2 Giants Goofballs: New York Giants News & Updates! Welcome to the fifth series in the annual podcast programme from Academic Archers, bringing you papers from our 2024 conference. Please note: the sound quality on this recording is not as clear as usual. We apologise for this and thank you for your understanding. This episode examines how class operates in The Archers and whether it mirrors wider English society.I look down on him – From Lord Netherborn to David Archer to Tracey Horrobin, Class in Ambridge: does it reflect the English experience? - Christine NarramoreFrom Prince Philip's reflections on the apparent flexibility of the class system to George Bernard Shaw's sharp observations on English snobbery, the question of class runs deep through British life. The Archers provides fertile ground to test how those dynamics play out in microcosm. This paper explores whether the shifting social structure of Ambridge mirrors real-world class experience. Taking a longitudinal approach, it maps social mobility in the village from Dan Archer to Freddie Pargeter. It considers how class is expressed through money, opportunity, and expectation, comparing experiences such as Fallon's and Emma's, who attended the same school but face very different futures.By asking how privilege, barriers, and aspiration intersect in Ambridge, the paper sheds light on whether this fictional village really reflects the English class system — or if it creates its own version. If you enjoy our work and would like to support Academic Archers, you can Buy Us a Coffee – buymeacoffee.com/academicarchers.

China agreed to delay rare earth export controls and buy US farm goods. This move is seen as desperate by Xi Jinping, whose economy is undermined by US technology curbs.
