Furry Friends' annual Giving Trees fundraiser is back for 2025, inviting Clark County residents to help stock up essential supplies for rescued cats and kittens. Local businesses across Vancouver, Battle Ground and Camas are hosting “Giving Trees” with wish lists and donation bins, and every dollar saved on food, litter and cleaning products lets the no‑kill rescue put more resources into medical care and rehabilitation. Supporters can shop in person, ship items directly from an Amazon Wish List or donate online so Furry Friends can purchase what's needed most. https://www.clarkcountytoday.com/news/furry-friends-giving-trees-2025-underway/#ClarkCounty #VancouverWA #FurryFriends #GivingTrees #HolidayFundraiser #CatRescue #NoKillShelter #AdoptDontShop

Nacho, Nacho Mannnnn is a tan and white colored cattle dog mix with a very fun and playful side who can be a bit rambunctious. When he gets outside, he loves to show off his zoomy side in the play yard. Nacho is a big goofball to say the least. He is roughly 2 years old, up to date on his vaccinations and neutered. He came to us earlier in the summer and has been a joy to have, but it's time for him to find a home with a family or even a single human to call his own. He loves his toys and people, but he is not a Velcro dog. He will lean against you while you pet him, but he doesn't overwhelm you by looking for attention. Nacho is a bit shy when it comes to meeting other dogs 'in person', but through the kennel he is quite playful with his neighbors. He has had a variety of neighbors and, so far, hasn't had a poor reaction to any of them. Nacho does need some proper guidance with manners, but overall is very well behaved and potty trained. He just has an excellent, friendly personality. He knows 'sit' and does fairly well on a leash, but he could really benefit from someone willing to teach him more and give him a 'job' since his breed is a working breed. Sadly, he isn't a great choice for families with small children because he hasn't had much experience with them. Meaning that his rambunctious side is a bit too much for them and being mouthy sometimes when he plays. This is part of the breed and their natural instinct to herd which can be redirected with proper, consistent training. We would love to invite people to come and meet Nacho so that they can see for themselves just how awesome this guy is. If you have had experience with cattle dogs previously, then you know how important training is with this breed and how wonderful they can be. Please contact Van Buren County Animal Control at 269-621-4624 or visit the shelter at 58040 County Road 681, Hartford, MI 49057 to learn more about the smart and handsome Nacho.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Meet Balto!! Balto is an Alaskan Malamute who is around 2 years old. He loves to run and play whenever he can. When he first came to us, he was a hot mess! Standoffish and did not want to socialize, and had mats and burrs covering his body. As soon as he got comfortable and clean, he couldn't get enough of the love! Balto is so cuddly and fluffy, he just lures you in with his charm. He will make a great protector of the home because he knows who’s giving him the love and affection that he craves. Balto is not neutered but is currently up to date with his vaccinations. If you’re interested in welcoming Balto into your home, his adoption fee is $65.00. Meet Alex and Max, happy little guys who are certain to put a smile on your face! They are playful and adore attention from people. Pure breed Havanese dogs, only 4-1/2 years old. Alex is grey and weighs around 14 pounds. Max is black with white and weighs around 16 pounds. Both boys would like to lose a couple of pounds, but wouldn't we all?!! Alex loves to be held and carried. Max is more independent, preferring to walk and climb up beside you. The boys are crate-trained, however, they are not fully house-trained and will need work with leash-training, but they are smart and have wonderful personalities! The boys are neutered and up-to-date on vaccines. They recently saw their groomer, so their normally longer coats will be growing out soon. Neutered and up-to-date on vaccines. Reach out to Paws of Hope at information@pawsofhope.org to learn more about adorable Alex and Max. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Beautiful Elsa is a husky mix of fur and love. We named her Elsa after "Frozen" because her coat is white and fluffy like the snow in winter. We found it to fit her. We are unsure of her exact age, but we guess that she is about 3 years old. She prefers to hang out on the outside area of her kennel during the mornings when everyone is barking and being noisy. Elsa is pretty low key and will shy away from people initially, but she is very friendly and loving. She enjoys being groomed and petted. She has no problem rolling over onto her back so that you can reach all the best places. She came to us after a fatal chicken incident and was never claimed by her owner. You could tell that she was pretty scared and was quite stand-offish. Now she greets us, she paws at us when we get close to her. All-around, Elsa is just a great dog. She does well with some of the dogs here at the kennel, but not with our resident cat. She loves to explore in our play yard and play with her toys. She has even been caught trying to play with her kennel neighbors under the fence. She has been so good and patient, we just want to tell everyone about how sweet she is. She will gently lick your cheek when she sidles up next to you. The guest today on the Online for Authors podcast is Michelle O'Neil, author of the book Dog Park. Michelle also authored the memoir Daughter of the Drunk at the Bar. She has a background as a freelance writer in Washington DC, and her work has been featured in Literary Mama, Brain Child, Age of Autism, The Bark!, Cool Cleveland, and other publications. She is an RN, BSN, and teaches yoga in a large retirement community in SC. In her book review, guest-host Carole O'Neill stated Dog Park: Tales of Heartbreak, Laughter, Community and Hope is a wonderful contemporary fiction. You don't even have to like dogs to enjoy this book. Every time I drive by the dog park in our neighborhood, I try to imagine the stories playing out among the owners. Michelle has captured the socialization happening within those fences. From widows using the park to prevent an otherwise lonely afternoon, to the young girl escaping the abuse of her father, each story will make you realize there is more going on than what first meets the eye. The optimism, strength and sadness I read about throughout the book gave me a new outlook on the pet owners who spend time at the park – an actual community behind the gate. O'Neil's characters are engaging, full of engaging backstories. I haven't had a dog for many years, but this book has given me a reason to revisit that decision. Looking for a cat with personality? Meet AC, a confident, chatty explorer who’s never met a shoulder he didn’t want to sit on. Yes, you read that right, this guy thinks he’s part parrot! AC is a social butterfly (or maybe a social tiger?) who thrives on attention. He’ll happily narrate his day to you with a symphony of meows and chirps, and he’ll return your affection tenfold. If you're not petting him, he’ll politely remind you, with his voice, his paws, or by suddenly being on your shoulder like it's totally normal. He's curious, adventurous, and always investigating his surroundings like he’s on a mission from Cat Headquarters. Whether it’s a new room, a cardboard box, or your unsuspecting back, AC is going to explore it. AC is the kind of cat who turns heads and steals hearts. If you're looking for a clingy little weirdo who’s equal parts hilarious and affectionate, AC might just be your perfect match. AC is neutered, microchipped, vaccinated and FIV/FELV negative. If you are interested in adopting AC please fill out an Al-Van Humane Society adoption application at al-van.org/adopt.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
