Michael Brumbaugh, a native of Harborcreek, Pennsylvania, exemplifies a life of service, leadership, and unwavering faith. Growing up, Michael spent 14 years playing competitive ice hockey, culminating in reaching the elite AAA level with the Erie Travel Hockey League. After graduating from high school in 2000, he briefly pursued a degree in criminal justice at Mercyhurst College Northeast. However, he soon felt a greater calling and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in January 2001, marking the start of an exceptional military service. Michael completed bootcamp at Parris Island, South Carolina, and the Infantry Training Battalion in North Carolina before joining Kilo Company, 3rd Battalion, 1st Marines at Camp Pendleton, California. His military service included a deployment with the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit (SOC) in 2002 and two combat deployments to Iraq in 2003 and Al Fallujah in 2004, where he served as an operations specialist. Following his honorable discharge in 2005, Michael pursued higher education, earning an Associate's Degree in Business Marketing and Management from Tri-State Business Institute. In late 2005, Michael experienced a spiritual transformation, accepting Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at a Weekend to Remember event by FamilyLife. He publicly affirmed his faith through baptism in 2006 at Erie First Assembly of God in Erie, Pennsylvania. That same year, on May 27, 2006, Michael married Liz (Sabulsky), committing to build a Christ-centered family. The couple welcomed their first child, Caleb, in Pennsylvania. In January 2009, the Brumbaugh family relocated to Colorado, where Michael began working for the Colorado State Department of Corrections. In October 2010, he transitioned to the U.S. Department of Justice and earned his Bachelor's Degree in Behavioral Science, graduating summa cum laude from Colorado State University. During this time, the family welcomed their second child, Paige, further enriching their lives. Michael now serves with the Department of Homeland Security, where he has made a significant impact through his dedication and expertise. In 2021, Michael and his family became active members of Brave Church in Colorado. His passion for serving God and others flourished as he stepped into roles such as Corps Director, a member of the Emergency Response Team, and currently as a Shepherding Elder. He also leads a weekly men's Bible study at his home, affectionately called "Tun Tavern 2," where he mentors and disciples other men in their spiritual journeys. Guided by the principles of serving his family, loving his wife as Christ loved the church, and raising his children in faith, Michael exemplifies a life of purpose and integrity. His unwavering commitment is anchored in the words of Joshua 24:15 (NASB): “But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” This verse encapsulates his devotion to living a life that honors God in all aspects. Uncommon Disciple helps everyday men build an eternal legacy. We believe God created men to be leaders of honor, integrity, strength and grace. The probelm is that while many men desire to become all God has called them to be, they burn out along the way. Fathers desire to be godly examples to their children but carry the guilt and shame of their failures. Young singles may be full of vision, but they lack the wisdom and endurance to stay on course to fulfillment. These all-to-common stories are the reason we believe God is calling us to build uncommon disciples. Much more than resources, conferences, and community groups, Uncommon Disciple is a movement of men seeking sustainable life change. Make sure you subscribe and stay tuned to everything we are doing. Robert Guffy - Gang StalkingFebruary 20Robert Guffey shared the remarkable story of Damien (called Dion in Guffey's book), an unrepentant heroin addict who in 2003 sheltered a US Marine that had stolen 22 pairs of night vision goggles, a DoD laptop, and perhaps a few top secret files from Camp Pendleton, a military base in the San Diego area. Arrested under the Patriot Act, Damien underwent a six-day-long Abu-Ghraib-style interrogation by the NCIS, and was accused of trying to sell the military equipment to terrorists. Damien refused to testify against the Marine, or cooperate in any way, and was eventually released. But after his release he began to notice he was being "gang stalked" around San Diego, with 7-9 people following him into a 7-11, restaurants, and various places. They wanted him to feel discombobulated and paranoid, Guffey explained. Vehicles were parked outside Damien's house, and Guffey knew someone at the DMV, and found out that none of the license plate numbers "officially existed," which suggested they were government vehicles. After this, Damien began to be bombarded with hallucinations, such as seeing multiple moons in the sky, and the dimensions of his apartment were changing. Further, invisible people were in the room, interacting with him and moving things around, and he saw a black amorphous energy.A woman from the NCIS visited Damien on a number of occasions, asking if he was ready to cooperate, implying that the harassment would end if he worked with them. Guffey was able to track down Richard Schowengerdt, said to be one of the scientists behind a project code named "Chameleo" that involved bizarre experimentation including "cloaking"— electro-optical camouflage so extreme it rendered observers practically invisible, which correlated with what Damien experienced. Damien was likely used as a guinea pig to test out the effect of this technology, Guffey concluded, adding that he and Damien suspected the missing night vision goggles may have been especially important to the military as they possibly allowed wearers to see that which had been made invisible.Blog BookBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-opperman-report--1198501/support.

This week's educational episode showcases the incredible work of Semper Fi and America's Fund, an organization that has been providing vital support to service members, veterans, and their families for over 20 years. At the heart of this organization is Sondria Saylor, the Executive Vice President, whose personal connection to the military community runs deep.Sondria's connection to the military began in 1984 when she became an active-duty spouse. In 2003, she saw the challenges faced by wounded service members returning from Iraq and knew action was needed. Along with other military spouses, Sondria met medevacs at the hospital, providing essentials and comfort to these brave individuals. This grassroots effort grew into the Semper Fi and America's Fund, which has provided over $500 million in support and programs to 33,000 service members across all branches of the U.S. armed forces.Sondria's dedication to the mission of Semper Fi and America's Fund is truly inspiring. Through comprehensive case management and lifetime support, she and her team ensure that service members, caregivers, and their families receive the care and resources needed to navigate recovery and reintegration. Semper Fi and America's Fund serves as a beacon of hope and community for those who have sacrificed for our country, offering caregiver retreats, sports programs, and holiday celebrations.About Sondria:Sondria is the Executive Vice President of Semper Fi & America's Fund, where she oversees Case Management for the Western Region, Communications Operations, and the Apprenticeship, Jinx McCain Horsemanship, and Veteran to Veteran (V2V) Programs. Before her current role, Sondria was Vice President of Case Management in the Western Region from 2014 to 2021, Senior Director of Case Management from 2005 to 2014, and Director of Donor Operations from 2004 to 2005.Sondria's connection to the military began in 1984 when she became an active-duty spouse. From its early years in the 1980s until 2004, she was involved in the evolution of Marine Corps Family Readiness, serving as Key Volunteer Advisor to the 1st Marine Division. As Key Volunteer Advisor in 2003, she worked alongside Karen Guenther to support returning wounded at the Naval Hospital at Camp Pendleton, which led to the creation of Semper Fi & America's Fund.Sondria's contributions to Family Readiness earned her induction into the US Field Artillery Honorable Order of Molly Pitcher in 1993. In 2007, her work with Semper Fi & America's Fund was recognized by Cookie Magazine with the 1st Annual Smart Cookie Award, honoring women making a difference.Raised and educated in Fairfax, VA, Sondria has extensive experience in small business ownership and management. Finding and fighting against national security threats is a crucial job. In any election cycle, it's even more necessary as political enemies and disinformation can pose serious threats to our democratic process. As a career veteran and defense specialist, Vance Cryer helps spotlight the threats we may face in the intersection between polarization and national defense and how we can overcome them. Vance describes America's external threats, what they stand to gain by a weakened America, and how they are using America's division as a tool to undermine democracy.Vance Cryer was born in Fort Worth, Texas, in 1968. To help pay his way through school, Vance worked as a journeyman plumber and also helped his grandfather in a business that prewired new houses for telephone service. During his first semester of school, he joined the Air Force ROTC. He then got a job at the local airport filling airplanes with gas and scraping bugs off windshields, using the cash he earned to pay for flying lessons thereby fulfilling his lifelong dream of being a pilot. By the end of that first semester, he contracted with the Marines to compete for one of two slots in north Texas for Officer Candidate School. Vance's 27-year career with the Marines took him through flight school in Pensacola, Florida; to Top Level School at the National War College in Washington, D.C., where he earned a master's degree in national strategic studies; to four AV-8B squadron tours, including as the commanding officer of Marine Attack Squadron 211. He completed six combat tours in Iraq and served two tours of duty at the Pentagon-Headquarters Marine Corps in the Department of Aviation. In 2013, he was promoted to colonel and commanded the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit at Camp Pendleton. In 2016, he was handpicked by Secretary Ray Mabus as the Marine Military Assistant to the Secretary of the Navy.In August 2018, Vance retired from active duty in the Marine Corps and is now serving as a Director for Special Programs at Lockheed Martin Missiles & Fire Control (MFC). He serves as the liaison between MFC and Lockheed Martin Aerospace, working on the leading edge of missile and sensor technologies and future capabilities.Thank you to Starts with Us for their collaboration on this series. History provides the opportunity to study the past through the lens of the present, but what makes history so exciting for many of us is those moments when we truly feel transported back to those earlier days to see the world through the eyes of our predecessors–pioneers who laid the foundation for the lives we experience now. And the stories of the past become even more rich and vivid when they involve our own ancestors. I'm excited to share my conversation with an author who transports us back nearly 100 years–to a time when the promise of southern California was just beginning. It was a time when the California coastline was still wild and uncharted, the beaches were pristine, and there was no traffic!  And my guest allows us to experience the remarkable sights and sounds of these different times through a beautiful love story. Whether you're interested in the history of California, romance, or how individuals can shape the course of history, you're going to enjoy my conversation with author John Thill. About the Guest John Wilcox Thill is the author of A California Love Story. It's the romantic story of Ray and Dora, John's grandparents recreated through a series of forgotten love letters from his grandparents' courtship. Within their worn folds, John found a story that was both timeless and filled with emotion, all happening in an era in American history when the future of California was still taking shape. John is a graduate of San Diego State University and spent much of his career in managing and producing video content for large organizations. Later, he transitioned to corporate learning and development, and became a partner in a global talent development company. Damien was likely used as a guinea pig to test out the effect of this technology, Guffey concluded, adding that he and Damien suspected the missing night vision goggles may have been especially important to the military as they possibly allowed wearers to see that which had been made invisible.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-opperman-report--1198501/support.

Today, I welcome Bobbi Smith. At 22, this brave young woman is actually a two-time loss survivor. She actually first lost her best friend AND then, a few years later, her husband to suicide, yet the hope in her voice is inspirational. She is wise beyond her years - that happens after trauma, but she is not shrinking away from the very raw & complex parts of her experiences -- she is standing up & drawing attention to them."Her best friend since childhood, Racelyn, died on Feb. 20, 2018, at just 16 years old. While she felt the support of family & adults in her life, Bobbi's world was completely rocked. She even ended up completing her schooling online due to the bully-like, insensitive behavior of her peers after Racelyn died.Bobbi met Quentin through Racelyn; they were online friends for years! After Racelyn passed, they became closer after Quentin contacted her over social media to offer support and say he'd always be there to talk. It turned out he was, and their connection grew. After a road trip to visit Bobbi in October 2020, he asked her to be his girlfriend, and they married in December 2021. At the time, Quentin was a Marine stationed at Camp Pendleton from 2018 to 2022. Quentin Reed Smith was a 0331 Machine Gunner (Infantryman) in the United States Marines. He served one deployment to Japan. When he left the military, he was an E-4 corporal. He died from suicide by firearm in their backyard on Aug. 14, 2023, only 4 months short of turning 24, and he had only been out of the military for 9 months."You will hear us discuss many of the things listed above, but also:What was different the day he died...or was anything? Hear her describe (what sounds to me like) how his 'brain broke' in the moments before he died as she witnessed (audibly) his break...but having no understanding of the cause...part of the unanswered 'whys' many of us have. The detrimental "figure it out & hold your own" attitude toward mental health care while enlisted is a contributing factor to military & vet suicides. Why does she blame the military and their lack of support [for his death]- including but not limited to the fact that they do such a poor job reacclimating soldiers back into civilian life once they get out. The dehumanization she (& her family) felt at the hands of first responders.Fear & ignorance - what she believes would help or could be done differently (for soldiers) & through it all - how (she thinks) we can all make a difference by just saying their names...and more!THANK YOU for listening to this episode. It means so much to us! ______________________________________________________________________My WEBSITE "The Leftover Pieces; Rebuilding You" is support central.PS....The FIRST SESSION of the Legacy Writing Project in 2024 is under way BUT you can get on the wait list for the August 7 group NOW!!For a way to leave a Legacy of your child - GO HEREIf you, or someone you know, is struggling  with suicidal thoughts PLEASE reach out:CALL 988   OR, you can also TEXT the word "HOME" to 741741 in the USASupport the showSupport the show

Plus super quick news roundup from explosions to a badass sniper making history. HOUSE IN ARLINGTON VA EXPLODING Yesterday afternoon Arlington County Police Department went to a call for possible gunshots where it turned out the fella in the home had discharged a flare gun 30 to 40 times… The suspect then barricaded themselves inside and around 8:30pm when police tried to issue a search warrant he exploded the whole damn house. Huge fireball, was felt all over DC. Three officers reported minor injuries and there were no transports to the hospital related to this incident. The investigation is ongoing. Not clear if the guy survived. MARINE PLEADS GUILTY TO FIREBOMBING PP WHILE ON ACTIVE DUTY A former Marine pleaded guilty to a 2022 firebombing attack on a Planned Parenthood clinic in California. Chance Brannon, 24, is one of three men charged in the Molotov cocktail attack which occurred while Brannon was an active-duty Marine stationed at Camp Pendleton. No one was hurt in the incident but the front entrance had some burn damage, and the clinic had to reschedule about 30 appointments. He had also discussed other attacks along with starting a race war, plus a rifle with a Cyrillic message referring to death and a racial slur, as well as a thumb drive with a recording of the Christchurch, New Zealand, white supremacist mass shooting. Boyyyyyy I bet the folks in his unit could share some stories about him. FIRST ACTIVE DUTY WOMAN TO BECOME AN ARMY SNIPERYou can find every episode of this show on Apple Podcasts, Spotify or YouTube.
