Episode 253 of the Transition Drill podcast, explores Marine Corps combat service, life after injury, and veteran transition for military veterans and first responders navigating identity, trauma, and purpose after the job. You'll hear Marcus Wilson on surviving an IED blast, fighting his way back into uniform, and what it takes to rebuild a life when the mission changes.Marcus grew up in Dermott, Arkansas, with the Marine Corps already planted in his mind. His dad had served, and a photo of him in dress blues became a reminder of the path Marcus wanted. After graduating high school in 1994, he left for boot camp in San Diego, became an infantry Marine, and committed early to making the Marine Corps a career. His service took him from Camp Pendleton to Okinawa, Korea, Australia, Hawaii, Afghanistan, and Iraq. After 9/11, Marcus wanted to be where the fight was. In 2005, he deployed to Afghanistan with 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marines and experienced combat during a deployment that included Operation Red Wings in his unit's area of operations. Then came Iraq in 2006, where the pace and violence in Haditha were constant. On November 14, 2006, Marcus was serving as a QRF platoon sergeant when his vehicle was hit by an IED. Three Marines were killed. Marcus survived, but lost his left leg above the knee and suffered multiple serious injuries, including broken bones, fractured vertebrae, broken ribs, and a punctured lung. After 48 surgeries, years of rehab, and learning to walk with a prosthetic, he fought to stay in the Marine Corps instead of leaving at 12 years. He returned to active duty, became a First Sergeant, served at the School of Infantry, and retired after 21 years. But retirement brought a different fight. Marcus talks openly about depression, losing his sense of purpose, staying in bed for nearly a year, and finally getting help through the Veterans Center. Today, he's found purpose in the outdoors through Wounded Warrior Outdoors, guiding veterans and first responders on hunting and fishing trips across North America. His story is about dedication, mental health, brotherhood, and finding a new mission after service.CONNECT WITH THE PODCAST:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/paulpantani/WEBSITE: https://www.transitiondrillpodcast.comLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/paulpantani/SIGN-UP FOR THE NEWSLETTER:https://transitiondrillpodcast.com/home#aboutQUESTIONS OR COMMENTS:paul@transitiondrillpodcast.comSPONSORS:GRND Collective: Premium, veteran-owned sportswear built for those who show up, outwork the excuses, and give 100%. Bob DeMarco welcomes Al Salvitti of Regiment Blades to Episode 673 of The Knife Junkie Podcast for one of the most grounded, experience-driven conversations the show has had in a long time. Salvitti brings 52 years of martial arts training, 15 years of real-world bouncing experience in Philadelphia and South Jersey, and a knife design built entirely around what actually works when fists are flying. This is not a conversation about what looks good in a video — it is a conversation about what kept a small guy standing in packed bars where fights broke out five times a night.Salvitti traces his path from taekwondo black belt to Philadelphia boxing gyms to Sayoc Kali under Tuhon Chris Sayoc, explaining how each layer of training changed his thinking about power, timing, and weapons. He developed a full-body power-striking system grounded in keeping both feet on the ground and using the skeletal frame instead of just the shoulder—a method that has been taught to Navy SEALs, Marine units at Camp Pendleton, and Border Patrol agents. He also shares what those experiences taught him about why complicated techniques fail under real stress and why simplicity wins every time. His LowViz punch blade at regimentblades.com came directly out of those lessons: a blade that deploys in the same motion as a punch, grips like a pistol, and rides flat on the belt in a sheath that Salvitti engineered himself, because every other option on the market failed to meet his standards. The big story of the episode is the connection between the Regiment Blade and bestselling thriller author Jack Carr. Salvitti sent Carr a custom LowViz and, months later, discovered that Carr had written the knife into his new novel, "The Fourth Option," with full credit to Salvitti by name. The main character carries the Regiment Blade. A chapter of the book covers a knife fight in the dark using the weapon. Carr described it in print as "designed to be an extension of your hand"—words that Salvitti said captured exactly what he built it to be. Salvitti and maker John Gray produced 175 custom Fourth Option editions with acid-etched finishes and pinned wood handles for the book launch, and a production version of the Fourth Option LowViz is currently in progress. The episode also covers Salvitti's approach to situational awareness and what he posts on the Regiment Blades Instagram: real street-violence footage, shared not for shock value but to show people what unscripted violence actually looks like. No flying kicks. No fancy blade work. Just speed, aggression, and whoever prepared better. His philosophy is direct: the wheel is always spinning, and training before it stops on you is the only option worth taking seriously. For full show notes, past episodes, and more from The Knife Junkie, visit theknifejunkie.com. AJ Pasciuti grew up in Sunnyvale, California, the son of Italian and Argentine immigrants. After 9/11 reshaped his sense of purpose, he enlisted in the Marine Corps and was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st Marine Division — one of the most storied units in the Corps — where he served as a rifleman and team leader. Over twenty-one years of service, he deployed three times to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, including the Battle of Fallujah. He led a Scout Sniper team that tracked and killed the most lethal enemy sniper in Iraq — a figure known as "Juba" — and recovered a stolen Marine sniper rifle in what was the first mission of its kind by an American service member since Vietnam. He went on to serve with 3rd Reconnaissance Battalion and 2nd Force Reconnaissance Company, deploying to Helmand Province, Afghanistan, during Operation Enduring Freedom and later with the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit. As an instructor, he taught at the Scout Sniper School at Camp Pendleton, created the Recon Team Leaders Course, and helped develop the Infantry Marine Course at School of Infantry–West, modernizing foundational training for enlisted Marines. Selected for the highly competitive Marine Gunner program, he became an Infantry Weapons Officer and rose to Chief Warrant Officer 3 before retiring from the Marine Corps in 2023. He holds a Master of Business for Veterans from the University of Southern California and a Master of Public Leadership from the University of San Francisco, and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Leadership Studies at the University of San Diego. The conditions service members live in directly affect Military readiness and national security. It's the responsibility of Congress to authorize military funding to ensure the warfighter has what they need in combat and at home. Every decision impacts the strength of the force and their families. In this episode, Fran Racioppi sat down with Representative Mike Levin, who serves California's 49th District and sits on the House Appropriations Committee, Subcommittee on Military Construction and Veterans Affairs to discuss the policies and decisions shaping today's military bases. From investments in infrastructure at Camp Pendleton to broader oversight of Veterans Affairs, Congressman Levin outlines why improving living conditions, facilities, and support systems is essential to maintaining a ready and capable force. Our conversation explores the responsibility of leadership to develop a culture where reporting substandard conditions is encouraged. We also discuss the broader role of Congress in overseeing military operations, and the importance of transparency, strategy, and accountability when American forces are deployed.Congressman Levin shares his perspective on the war with Iran, his views on the need for checks and balances, and the growing divide that has made bipartisan governance more difficult. He emphasizes that strong institutions require leaders willing to put mission over politics and to ensure that the constitutional framework guiding military action is upheld. This is a conversation about leadership, accountability, and the systems that support those who serve. It is about ensuring readiness not just on the battlefield, but across the entire force.Highlights:0:00 Introduction1:53 Welcome to the Jedburgh Podcast3:19 California's 49th District6:34 Improving Military Housing14:25 Status of the Iran War19:37 Is Iran A Direct Threat To The US?22:08 Iran's State Sponsorship of Terrorism25:20 Negotiating with Iran28:41 Bridging the GapQuotes:“It is imperative that we treat our veterans and military families with absolute respect.”“We've got real issues with barracks.”“We're not looking for the Ritz Carlton. We want to introduce you to Yukon. This handsome guy would love to trade kennel life for the Yukon if he had the option! He is a Husky/Malamute mix (heavy on the malamute) who is 9 years young. Yukon came from Camp Pendleton-- yes, that Camp Pendleton! While he was not qualified for service as a US Marine, he lived on base. He was passed from family to family through the years that he spent there. He would be given a home, then the family would get transferred to a new base and would leave Yukon behind to be adopted out by a new family. Yukon went through approximately 9 families because of this sad cycle. He was then adopted by what truly seemed to be his fur-ever family. He had children and a dog sibling to share his home with. The children suffered from severe allergies and the parents were constantly on the hunt for the cause. After a full allergy screening, it was determined that the saliva from both dogs were the cause of the allergies the children were suffering from. The family then has to make the heartbreaking choice to rehome both of their dogs. The task of cramming allergy meds into a young child is a daunting task and we can understand that. The other dog was rehomed fairly quickly by the family. Yukon, however, wasn't as lucky. No one wanted a big, 'old dog'. Let's be correct. The right people didn't want an 'old dog'. Yukon is a gentle soul. He loves people and is wonderful with young children. His previous family has a three-year-old who would snuggle and lay with Yukon. He seemed to relish the moments with the children. He wasn't even bothered when the now nine-month-old child came along. Yukon is house trained, good with other dogs and children and UTD on his vaccinations. Yukon also knows basic commands such as "sit". He isn't troubled by the noise of the kennel. He looks at us so sweetly and quietly, and we know we need to get him back into a permanent home. Would you be willing to give him a cool floor to lie down on and a backyard for sniffing? Will you be the FINAL family and home he ever has to get used to? We want to get Yukon into his fur-EVER home more than anything as the heat of the season approaches. This lovable pup has paid his dues with age and shouldn't have to look for another family AGAIN, but here he is. He has never seen a cat so he isn't sure if he will tolerate them, but he is great with children, including the young ones. If you can find it in your heart to share a life with a soul as beautiful as Yukon's, please come meet him at our shelter, Van Buren County Animal Control. We are located at 58040 County Road 681, Hartford, MI. Our phone number is 269-621-4624. We don't think that you'll be disappointed by this guy!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Casey Stumpf is a nurse practitioner with 18 years of clinical experience spanning emergency medicine, military family health at Camp Pendleton, hospice care, and hormonal optimization. She holds a Menopause Society Certified Provider credential and a bachelor's in dietetics from UC Davis. She now runs a practice in California focused exclusively on perimenopause, menopause, and hormonal health for both men and women. In 2002, a study got published before the researchers finished reviewing it. The media ran with one conclusion: estrogen causes cancer. For the next two decades, women were stripped of hormone therapy and told to white knuckle through the worst years of their lives. That same study actually showed women on estrogen alone had 18% less breast cancer. Nobody reported that part. Casey walks through exactly what happened, why the data was misread, and what six decades of fear have cost 75 million American women — only 5% of whom are on hormones today. We get into the real mechanics of what perimenopause does to the brain and body, why testosterone is her favorite hormone for women, the connection between untreated menopause and Alzheimer's, hip fractures, heart disease, and divorce. She talks about sitting bedside through hundreds of hospice deaths and how that shaped everything she does now. We talk about our mom's end-of-life letter, our dad's refusal to age gracefully, and what it means to build your 80-year-old self in midlife.  https://theradiantwelltality.com/   Today's Sponsors:  Montana Knife Company: https://www.montanaknifecompany.com Brunt:  For a limited time, our listeners get $10 off at BRUNT when you use code "clearedhot" at checkout. Michael Alice for shielding a Polish soldier during a 2013 Taliban attack—followed by a blunt reminder of why people actually serve. From a 10th Mountain Division deployment to CENTCOM, Golden Knights season prep, and the rising age of Army recruits, the brief moves into jungle medicine training in Hawaii, artillery and demolitions live fire at Schofield Barracks, and Arctic testing of small unmanned aerial systems where batteries and cold collide. Peaches also breaks down Navy deployments, changes to naval aviation training pipelines, Russian women detained at Camp Pendleton and why honeypots are real, a $700 3D-printed Marine Corps drone, AH-1Z missile upgrades, Air Force no-notice ORIs returning, micro-nuclear reactors at Eielson, cheaper cruise missile tests, housing overhauls in the UK, and why USAFA Superintendent Gen. Tony Bauerfeind's departure matters. The episode closes with Space Force warfighting expansion, drone-pilot mental health studies, and renewed Iran nuclear talks. In this episode of “Carlsbad: People, Purpose and Impact,” host Bret Schanzenbach sits down with Paola Richard, CEO and founder of Gelato Love in Carlsbad Village.Paola shares her global upbringing in Rome with roots across Europe, her early career as a seven-time Italian national synchronized swimming champion training in California, and her transition into marine biology and science journalism, where she wrote and produced content on conservation for outlets like National Geographic Italy and national television.Seeking a new life adventure, Paola moved back to California, fell in love with Carlsbad, and—thanks to a suggestion from her brother and cousin—made a bold pivot from journalism to entrepreneurship, launching a gelato shop originally called Gaia. With strong support from the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce, she opened her first store in the Carlsbad Village Faire and eventually rebranded to Gelato Love for clearer, more emotional branding.Paola explains how she uses her science background to reinvent gelato: experimenting with allulose, a rare sugar that mimics sugar's taste and texture but doesn't spike blood sugar, allowing Gelato Love to create no-sugar-added, low-glycemic, clean-label gelato with no artificial stabilizers. They now produce about 5,000 pounds of artisan gelato a day, make custom recipes for clients like Camp Pendleton, and offer 36 flavors in-store out of more than 300 recipes she has developed. She describes navigating COVID-19 by building an online ordering and local delivery system that literally kept the business alive and brought “little celebrations” to families stuck at home—like the special delivery Bret ordered for his staff. Paola also shares details about her Italian market-style shop, which now includes imported foods, panettone, bags, and accessories from Italy alongside gelato cakes and classic desserts like tiramisu. Finally, Paola celebrates a huge milestone: being selected by historic Italian company Fabbri to create three specialty flavors (dark chocolate oat milk, lemon cream ginger, and strawberry cheesecake) now available nationwide on Amazon, shipped frozen with dry ice. For Paola, every pint is a “gift of love” from Carlsbad to the rest of the country, and she dreams of further distribution while keeping quality, craft, and “guilt-free celebration” at the center of Gelato Love. From there, we turn inward as the nation collapses into civil war. The Marine Corps splits in two, with brother facing brother at sea and on land, from Bull Run to Charleston Harbor, from the ironclads at Hampton Roads to the final assault at Fort Fisher. A former ranch owner in Temecula, California, describes a life-changing epiphany about Sasquatch after years of dismissing their existence. Living on a property with fruit trees and two large dogs, the narrator initially believed Sasquatch were confined to northern forests, not Southern California. However, after an accident left them bedridden, they became engrossed in Sasquatch-related videos, including one about two marines encountering a 12-foot Sasquatch at Camp Pendleton, just nine miles from their ranch. This triggered a realization that unexplained events on their property—silent nights, missing fruit from tall trees, a vanished coyote corpse, and their fearless dogs acting scared—could be linked to Sasquatch activity. The narrator recalls other suspicious incidents, like a military helicopter warning them while flying near the ranch, missing people along De Luz road, and a supposed DEA raid that seemed more like a cover for tracking something else. A conversation with their excavator, who was warned by a doctor about Sasquatch on a nearby property, and stories from workers about "monsters" at the border eating migrants, solidified their belief. The narrator now believes Sasquatch inhabit the nearby Cleveland National Forest and may prey on border crossers, reflecting on how close they might have come to encountering one while patrolling their ranch at night.Join my Supporters Club for $4.99 per month for exclusive stories:https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/what-if-it-s-true-podcast--5445587/support

This federal intervention supplements the approximately 2,000 National Guard troops already mobilized in the city amid ongoing protests and incidents of violence.  Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass have criticized the deployment. Nevertheless, the Trump administration maintains that decisive federal action is necessary to prevent further disorder and uphold the rule of law. The Rich Zeoli Show- Hour 4: 6:05pm- In response to a series of ICE raids intended to remove migrants residing in the United States unlawfully, protests broke out in Los Angeles, California—sometimes turning violent and destructive. Videos circulating on social media show ICE agents being assaulted with bricks and commercial-grade fireworks. Numerous vehicles—including Waymo self-driving taxis—were set on fire by violent demonstrators. As the New York Post notes, Waymo vehicles are electric and as they burn, the lithium-ion batteries are releasing toxic gases. Other videos show demonstrators burning American flags and chanting “F*** Trump.” As the protests carried on into the night, multiple businesses were looted in downtown Los Angeles, according to reports. 6:15pm- While appearing on CNN with host Dana Bash, Senator Bernie Sanders (D-VT) accused President Donald Trump of being an authoritarian for deploying the California National Guard to stifle violent outbreaks in Los Angeles. Rich asks: Does Bernie think John F. Kennedy and Dwight Eisenhower were authoritarians when they federalized the National Guard to prevent violence and enforce the national expansion of Civil Rights? 6:30pm- According to polling data from CNN, 54% of Americans approve of the Trump Administration's program to deport immigrants illegally residing in the United States. While speaking to the press on the White House lawn, President Donald Trump referred to Los Angeles rioters as “insurrectionists”—noting that if he were Border Czar Tom Homan, he would consider arresting California Governor Gavin Newsom for interfering with ICE's deportation of illegal migrants. In response, Newsom has claimed Trump is “inflaming conditions” and has exceeded his authority to prevent violence, declaring: “Democracy is in the balance!” 6:40pm- In a post to X, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced: “Due to increased threats to federal law enforcement officers and federal buildings, approximately 700 active-duty U.S. Marines from Camp Pendleton are being deployed to Los Angeles to restore order. We have an obligation to defend federal law enforcement officers—even if Gavin Newsom will not.” 6:45pm- During the unrest in Los Angeles, Congresswoman Maxine Waters seemed to verbally harass National Guard members—yelling at them: “You going to shoot an elected official? If you shoot me, you better shoot straight. I don't know why you're in my city.”
