Hogan's Alley in Vancouver’s East End was home to much of the city’s Black community before it was demolished to make way for the Georgia Viaduct in the 1960s. More than 50 modular homes have been constructed on the land where Hogan’s Alley once stood to house predominantly Black and Indigenous people. Lama Mugabo is a member of the Hogan’s Alley Society. He talks about the housing project, the history of the neighbourhood and the systemic racism Black people faced then and now.

Retired agent Bill Vanderpool served in the FBI for twenty years. He was initially assigned to the Dallas Division and to the Washington Field Office where he was a sniper on the SWAT team, before being transferred to the FBI Academy at Quantico, Virginia as an instructor in the Firearms Training Unit. In this episode of FBI Retired Case File Review, Bill Vanderpool reviews his experience and years of research regarding the evolution of the bureau’s firearms, equipment, training facilities, and tactics. His book, Guns of the FBI: A History of the Bureau’s Firearms and Training, is a comprehensive study for history buffs and gun collectors. On this episode of AGP, I welcome comic creator Dan Johnson to the show. Dan Johnson is a North Carolina native who knew he wanted to create comic books ever since he was seven years old. He began working in the industry by contributing articles to such comics-themed magazines as Alter Ego, Back Issue and Comic Book Marketplace (he has also contributed to such comics-themed and pop culture publications as Filmfax, Hogan's Alley, Monster Memories, Monster News and Scary Monsters Magazine). Danâ??s first graphic novel, Herc and Thor, was published by Antarctic Press in 2006. Shortly after the release of that book, he began writing for Campfire Graphic Novels. His books for that company include adaptations of Robinson Crusoe, Oliver Twist and The Jungle Book (which was nominated for a 2011 Comic Con India Award for Best Childrenâ??s Publication) and the original graphic novel, Sinbad: The Legacy. Dan is also a writer for the Dennis the Menace comic strip and he contributed four short stories to With Great Power, an anthology that centers around a copy of Amazing Fantasy #15 (which featured the origin and first appearance of The Amazing Spider-Man) as it passes from one owner to the next over the course of fifty years. He also served as the editor and head writer for the first issue of Cemetery Plots, a horror anthology from Empire Comics Lab. In late 2014, Dan began writing for Charlton Neo Media and he was named an assistant editor at the company. At this time, he is working on two original features for the company, Tokoda, a western with Kevin Halter and Barbara Kaalberg and Hip Hop, a funny animal series with Will Boyer. He is also preparing a reboot of the western feature, Gunmaster, for the company with Rodney Bennett. Johnson and Bennett are also currently working on a creator-owned series for Empire Comics Lab that is set to premiere in 2016. So please join us Tuesday night at 7pm EST as I sit down with Dan Johnson and discuss about his works in the industry.
